I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I see the dot of the "i" in the ThinkPad logo is back-lit (the dot glows red).  It appears to show the computer is in use, sleeping, etc.  Not sure the value of that given that I seemed to survive without it in all my previous ThinkPads.  Does anyone have any insight as to why they added the red-dot "i"?  For those that may not have noticed, it is in the ThinkPad brand logo on the backside of the LCD (backside of the computer screen - facing away from you as you use the system). Is there more value to this than meets the eye?  Just curious. Thank you.

Hi guys, I have been browsing through the forums and trying various 'solutions' without success. My Lenovo Thinkpad x250 has a black screen and I have run out of ideas on how to fix this. A few points:- Sometimes (maybe 1/20 times) the lenovo logo comes on before the screen 'remembers' to go black- I have tried to turn on in BIOS and still black screen- It works perfectly well with VGA cable- I have Intel (R) Graphics 5500 as the only option in Display Adpaters. It is up to date at the time of posting (Vers. 20.19.15.4835) - The issue started after I left the laptop at work 'updating'. It clearly updated and I believe the black screen came after restarting (when updates were complete)- First couple of days the screen would come on if I connect VGA for a few minutes and remove it - weird! This doesn't happen anymore- I have opened the back and screen and it looks like the connecting cables are all intact-Everytime I turn the laptop on I can definitely see a change in the shade of black on screen - goes from black to what looks like a very dark grey (nearly black) Does anyone know how to fix this? Very sorry if I am repeating a solved question, I haven't come accross a solution that has worked yet.

Hi everyone, I've just received my new Thinkpad x250 which I ordered on ebay (bad decision)  and it looks suspicious.  Firstly, it doesn't have a fingerprint reader - I've never met x250s without fingerprint readers, also lenovo website didn't allow to customize it this way. Secondly, the overall case seems not genuine (for example, "x250" label looks different than on the official pictures). Also, it has weird serial number (starting with 20CLS...) that cant be found on the PSREF and warranty started 3 days before purchase. Am i paranoid or it's worth returning it to seller? Thank you!Ilya

you can get without fingerprint, webcam and so on but thats only special order within companies only so either person got this off his jobb but sold it after as i new condition since he wasn't happy with it, Could you send some pictures of your laptop so me and others on here can see how exactly is it fake?

So i have a X250 with both internal and external batteries, i recentley upgraded the bios to version 1.27 and reinstalled my machine from scratch. This is when i noticed that it uses the internal battery first, and then immidiately powers off instead of using the external one. I haven't found anywhere in the bios that i can set the priority of the batteries but shouldn't it be the other way around by default?  Any help is greatly appreciated

After adjusting some of the power settings to suit my preferences, I've encountered a wierd issue with my laptop. I set it so that closing the lid does nothing, because I don't like having to re-enter my passcode every time the lid gets shut for a quick second. However, I also set it so that the computer should go to sleep after an hour unattended (when plugged in) or ten minutes (when not plugged in), as to preserve the battery. Screenshots of these settings are included below for reference. My problem is that my computer does not go to sleep when left unplugged with the lid closed. Instead, it sits and burns the battery until it's almost dead. Sometimes I come home after my laptop has been sitting out for hours without being plugged in, and I hear the speaker chiming with the low-battery notification. When I open the lid, the computer is wide awake like I never left. I thought my settings should make it go to sleep after some time, whether or not the lid is open, whether or not it's plugged in. But this is clearly not happening when it should. Is there an additional setting I don't know about?  Is it possible that notifications from facebook or my anti-virus are preventing the computer from falling asleep? Thanks for your help.

Hello, Last week my X250 installed a significant Windows 10 update and then a BIOS update. Since then, frequently, but I don't think always, when I restart the laptop after it had been in standby the machine actually restarts. When you open the lid, the green power light in the power button flashes rapidly and then the machine reboots, with the obvious consequence that open documents are lost etc. I cannot be absolutely certain that this is linked to one of the updates, but I have had the machine for just under a year and this had never happened before. It is not a battery issue as this shows a good charge level after a restart from standby. Has anyone come across a similar problem? Many thanks in advance for any advice. Paul

The SIM card should be 3G/4G ready which is not only a sole phone card for calling. Is it because my model does not support wireless WAN? What can I do to check if my model can get onto the mobile internet?? Simply, I can't insert special characters using alt-codes. The ThinkPad X250 does not have a NumLock key and has no numpad. I've tested Fn+Alt using each Alt key and all the combinations of Fn and FnLk available in the bios and on the keyboard to no avail. Copy/Paste from the character map and inserting special characters in Word are cumbersome workarounds. I would greatly prefer to use alt-codes because it's more efficient for frequently inserting characters into formulas. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I have a ThinkPad X250 which came with a smart card reader from Lenovo. I don't need the card reader and would like to swap it out for the M.2 subcard for the ability to install a second M.2 SSD. I have found the FRUs for the M.2 subcard (04x3827) and the cable (04x3939), but looking at the pictures of the cable and looking at the motherboard, I can't see anywhere it can physically be connected. Has anyone attempted to do this before, or am I the first to try this? I've already ordered the parts, so worst case I'm $30 out of pocket, but it seems strange that there isn't a corresponding connector on the motherboard anywhere. I can't see Lenovo making two versions of the motherboard where one is for systems without the subcard and one is for systems with it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

A:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

Hi Voljka,For company or production environment, Windows Insider Preview / Release Preview builds is not recommended, as the drivers may not be ready for all types of hardware.  I would suggest you revert back to Windows 10 RS3 (15063), and wait until it is ready and show up in the Windows Update.

Hello,

I'm not a Lenovo employee, so cannot answer some of your questions exactly, but let me try to answer as a fellow X250 user who went from an HD IPS (1366768) to FHD IPS (19201080) panel about nine hours ago.

When the display panel was switched out, the display scaling changed from 100% to 125%.  Plenty of applications handle the new scaling just fine, but some of older ones looked blurry as a result of how fonts are scaled up in them.  Switching to 100% display scaling solved this and the apps now display crisp, if somewhat small, text.
Text is much sharper on the FHD display than the HD display, which is sort of expected given the new screen has nearly twice as many pixels as the old one.  Both screens I had were IPS, though, so I cannot make a direct comparison between TN and IPS.
I would suggest getting the screen installed by a Lenovo authorized service center.  According to this page, the contact information for Lenovo Ireland Sales and Customer Support is+353(01) 6535 568, and hours are from Monday - Friday 9am - 5.30pm GMT

One thing I've noticed is that the new screen seems a lot brighter than the old one.  Again, not sure how this compares with TN versus IPS screens, but just something to be aware of.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

I am looking to upgrade my X250 to improve performance. I am not a gamer, don't need lightning speed, so I figure almost any type SSD will do. My Intel I7 chip will support 16GB memory, so I will be doing that as well. I have a couple of questions I don't see answered. If I install a 256-500GB M2.SSD for the bootable drive, can I use the currently installed HDD as a D: drive? I did see I need to remove Express Cache if I use the M2.SSD slot for my bootable drive. Anyone doing this and what do I need to do in Disk Management to define the two drives? I think I can do a MS system backup of my HDD before either installing the M2.SSD or the internal SSD, and do a system recovery to restore Windows to the new drive. If that won't work, what do I need to do? Do I need to format the SSD before doing the recovery? If I decide to to low tech and just replace my HDD with an SSD, is there any reason to retain the M2.SSD? It is mainly to improve disk performance, and with an SSD instead of an HDD, it seems like wasted overhead. I have used fast startup, and I see no difference in startup time. Seems like a waste of effort. I don't think the Lenovo recovery partition on my X250 is of any use after upgrading to Windows 10. After I get the SSD installed and working, I plan to do a fresh install (not reinstall) of Windows 10 Pro, and format the SSD during the install. This should get rid of any unused partitions and make maximum spae available for my C: dri... Read more

Hi, In Oct 2018, I upgrade BIOS on my x250 Thinkpad to version 1.33 as suggested by Lenovo but have since regretted this move. My trackpad, trackpoint (the little red thing), keyboard and speakers have not worked since then. OS is running Win7 64-bit. Upon boot-up, the keyboard works for a few keystrokes at the password field, and then DIED! Sometimes it lets me past the login phase and when I edit a document, it dies after a few sentences. The trackpad and trackpoint was working before the BIOS update. The speakers do not work now but earphones are ok, so my soundcard is probably still intact. It has brought a great deal of inconvenience of late, and the X250 laptop is now almost useless. I am using an external keyboard and mouse to circumvent the issue. Probably the internal drivers have been over-written or corrupted. Any way to salvage my X250? How to rollback the 1.33 BIOS and revert to a working version without more devices failing. Appreciate the support. Many thanks!

Hello!  I am seeking the sage wisdom of veteran thinkpad owners for an upcoming purchase.  I am considering an x250 (i5, 256 ssd, 8gb, 1080P ips non touch, with nothing but a fresh install of Windows 10 pro 64 bit and MS office pro plus) to use for the next two years while I complete a degree(mostly paper writing, web browsing, netflix/youtube etc..nothing heavy). I prioritize a good keyboard, good battery life, light weight(under 3lbs), durability, and saving money if possible.  With that said, I can't deal with laggy performance and lackluster battery life. I "could" buy a new laptop, but am having a hard time justifying spending that much since my usage is so light.  My previous laptop was a macbook air and it served me well, but the keyboard never really impressed me. Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I recently bought a 2nd hand ThinkPad x250 with pretty low specs. I want to investigate the possibility to upgrade the screen from the IPS Non-Touch HD to a FHD touchscreen. At many places I read it is not possible because 'the motherboard is different', but I cannot find any motherboard with or without touch support. I suspect that it's not the motherboard itself not supporting the digitizer, but some other part that needs to be replaced or added to the system. Is it an option to buy a working complete X240 with touchscreen and swap components to move the touchscreen to the X250? I don't want to swap the motherboard itself because then I basically end up with a X240 in a X250 housing with only 8GB Ram support, and I want to upgrade to 16GB.

hello there,

I've tried to upgrade the RAM of my IBM ThinkPad R31 (Type 2656). It came with 128 and I've purchased 2 x 512. However the machine refuses to boot up with the new RAM. The 512 RAM's specs are:
144-pin unbuffered DIMM
Density: LOW
PC133 133FSB
2.5 Volts
6 Layer unbuffered
Non ECC
As far as I can tell from the R31 manual this RAM should work. Also, I visited crucial.com and my new RAM answers all their questions with regards to my machine.

The only difference between the 512 and 128 is height - the 128 is about 5mm higher. What does this mean in terms of the type of RAM it is?

If anyone could help out that would be great. Thanks,

costa k

RELEVANCY SCORE 42

Hi,
I have an old thinkpad 365XD that is running windows 2000, I am trying to upgrade it to windows XP just for the sake of seeing how it runs. I have a 64MB stick of ram installed on the system along with the 8MB of onboard memory. Theoretically the system should recognize all 72MB of memory however it only sees 40MB. How can I get it to see all 72MB?

Specs:
Pentium 120
4x Cd-rom
4GB HDD
"72Mb" EDO RAM

A:Thinkpad RAM upgrade
