Intel Core i3-2330M + Intel HD Graphics 3000 = Black Screen

Q: Intel Core i3-2330M + Intel HD Graphics 3000 = Black Screen

Intel Core i3-2330M + Intel HD Graphics 3000 = Black Screen

first of all, my words of deep and sincere appreciation and thanks for this website. I use it, though only sporadically, for many, many years and always got very professional and useful help here!

Today I am inquiring about a problem that seems to be quite common and wide-spread, based on my own Internet searches: the bad combination of the Intel Core i3-2330M processor and the Intel HD Graphics 3000. During normal operations, my system works with that. But when using render software (POV-Ray) or attempting to play games, then I am getting that famous Black Screen. The laptop still continues to work, but I cannot see anything anymore. Only a restart helps, unfortunately. My online search did not reveal any solution, and having downloaded the "Intel Driver Update Utility", nothing new can be downloaded it seems.

I am speaking out here today about my problem with the hope, that someone here know a functioning solution. I need my system in order to create renders, that is my work. I just recently upgraded my system with that better processor, and it kills me now.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've been trying to install Windows 8 since forever on my computer. Every time I install Windows 8 on my computer, it works fine until Windows update downloads the driver and installs it, or if I manually install my Bootcamp Support software drivers. Now since the release of Windows 8.1 I've been trying the same without any luck. Intel does not want to provide any support for Apple computers and Apple does not respond to my bug reports. I also downloaded the driver from the Intel site and as soon as it starts installing I get a black screen.

The only I solved this problem was by booting to safe-mode and uninstalling the driver. This is not a permanent fix because running on generic Windows drivers does not give the full potential of the graphics card. I also saw a lot of other people having the same problem, but a lot of them have dual graphics, my computer just has Intel's HD 3000.

Anyone that had this problem before, or knows how to fix it, please let me know.

My specs are as following:
Mac mini Server - Mid 2011
Intel Core i7 - 2635QM - Intel HD 3000
16GB Corsair Mac Memory - DDR3 1333MHz
1TB 7200RPM HDD + 120GB 320 Series Intel SSD
Windows 7 Currently running fine.

Thanks in Advance!

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520 with an Intel Core I3-2330M CPU and Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU

The problem I'm facing, is that the screen keeps turning the brightness up and down by itself.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro X64 and the latest drivers from Intel's website
I found a setting called "Display Power Saving Technology" in the Intel control panel.. disabled it but it didn't help..

Does anyone know how to disable this annoying feature?

Hello, I am having a screen flickering issue for some time now and I have narrowed down the issue to my graphics cards and settings.

I have an Asus x73s Laptop with both Intel HD* Graphics 3000 and an Nvidia 610m GPU.

The screen flickering I experience is when I am on my windows 7 desktop. It doesnt matter if I have any programs open or none at all my screen usually flickers. Sometimes it can go hours without doing this. I have no external display available to connect it to through HDMI to check if it happens on an external display.

I have sent my laptop in for repair under warrenty for this before and they said it was not an issue with my screen after a comprehensive hardware test and is a graphics or driver issue. But because the repair depot also sucks balls their solution was to backup my files, wipe and restore my laptop... That fixed it for a few months but the flickering is back.

I have gone through my Nvidia Control Panel and made sure my Nvidia 610m is set to be the priority GPU my laptop uses and have turned off the power saveing settings on the Intel Graphics control panel as i almost always have my laptop plugged in anyways.

The strangest thing I have only just noticed today is there is no screen flicker when playing games or when a game is alt+tabbed in the background.

Currently as I am writing this post I have launched Company Of Heros via Steam and then Alt + Tabbed back to my desktop. When I tab back and exit the game my screen will st... Read more

I've installed Windows 8.1 on a Medion Akoya P6634 sporting a Intel HD3000 and a GeForce GT630M.

I had to disable Windows Update because the notebook's screen becomes black after it performed some updates.
Hooking it up to another screen via HDMI works but I can't activate the notebook's screen anymore.

So I tried installing the latest Intel 3000 HD driver manually (like described here https://communities.intel.com/message/248260). It says that the latest display driver is already installed.
When I install the Intel 3000 HD driver via the executable the screen becomes black after hearing the "device disconnected" sound.

When it happened the last time all I could do was switching to safe-mode and disabling the Intel HD 3000 altogether.

Installing the latest GeForce-driver has no effect whatsoever. All the time the notebook's display is running at a 1024x768 resolution (native resolution is 1366x768).

Do you have any ideas what else I can do besides going back to Windows 7?

I got a custom Laptop with the following characteristics:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit , SP1
Processor: Intel Core i3-2330M [email protected] GHz
Graphics: Intel HD 3000 & GeForce GT540M (2GB)

So a few days ago when I tried to update the Intel HD 3000 through the Device Manager, a better version was found and started installing it. Suddenly the screen turned to black!
I turned off the laptop and booted in safe mode. I opened Device Manager again and I saw that Intel HD 3000 was replaced by "Standard VGA Adapter"...So I uninstalled it and rebooted again in safe mode and Intel HD 3000 was installed automatically. But the problem was not solved and the same would happen if I tried to update again the Intel HD card through Device Manager.
Generally I have googled very much about this problem but no results. I have downloaded the driver from Intel website to try it manually and again it fails to install.

But here is where it gets more strange:

Nvidia card is supposed to be up-to-date since when I click in Device manager to search online for drivers the message says there is not newer version. But there is not even a sign in my laptop that it is "alive". I mean that I cant even find Nvidia's control panel when I right-click in Desktop or near clock or at my Control Panel...I think thats not normal too.
So I downloaded the appropriate driver from Nvidia website, started installing it and an error appeared: "NVIDIA Installer cannot c... Read more

I turn on my laptop and the dell logo pops up and it just goes to a black screen with only my cursor being visible. The other day it was working just fine, then later on the fan starts getting really loud and I turn it off and turn it back on. This is when my nightmare starts, I turn it back on and stays on the dell logo and says "diagnosing your pc". The fan is still running loud, then after a few hours trying to get it work, the fan just stops making noise altogether. I run the system diagnostics and it says my fan and hard drive won't respond. I open up my laptop to what's internally wrong with the fan and hard drive. All I see is the fan doesn't spin, but after several minutes it starts to. I don't see why it says my hard drive won't respond when I fully inspected it and there was no visible damage whatsoever. I put everything back together and keep trying and which it being in the current result that is stated in the beginning. Only thing not mentioned is that the fan is just struggling to spin at a constant rpm. In the diagnostics even though the fan is somewhat spinning, it still indicates the fan and hard drive are unresponsive. This the worst thing for me right now because I'm looking for a job and start college soon.

Hey guys,

I thought I'd share my experiences for those who may have similar setups. I have a Sager NP8265 laptop, with AMD/Intel switchable graphics.
I did a clean install using an ISO I got from Mosharino's beautiful thread up there.

You MUST install the latest Intel graphics drivers, and then, DO NOT REBOOT, for you MUST ALSO install the latest ATI drivers (13.11 beta right now).
If you don't do both, you will get black screen of fun when you do reboot. BSOF. Not as fun as it sounds.

As far as upgrading rather than a clean install, if you upgrade, you will likely get the black screen anyways. So what you have to do, is reboot to safe mode after the upgrade completes (oh you'll know, cause all you can see if a black screen, with a mouse cursor), and remove both graphics devices (device manager, right click the graphics adapter, uninstall)

Then you can boot into Windows normally, albeit with sh*te graphics. Then do the installs as I outlined above.
After a couple of reboots, you should (..should..) have a functioning machine again, that doesn't even look like sh*te!.

Hopefully this helps someone who had the same issues I did!

Both x64 and x86 versions can be found here:

Hello all. I disabled my Intel HD graphics (dumb I know but it's in the past), and was prompted with a blank, black screen. I read up on the problem, and it seemed as if though it was a common problem, so I kinda did some tinkering. I removed my graphics card as my battery was bellow it, and then removed the battery for about 10 mins. After putting everything back together, I had no success.
The monitor is still working as I hooked up an older pc to it to see if it still works (which it does).
Any tips?

As soon as I install Intel HD Graphics 4600 in my Dell Latitude E6540, the screen goes black and after rebooting, it goes black again right after Windows is booted.
Here is everything I tried:
clean installed Windows 7(original Dell USB drive recovery media)
clean installed Windows 10
install all Windows Updates and drivers from Windows Updates
Install latest drivers manually from dell.com
Install latest (2017) drivers from intel.com

Screen works fine in Safe Mode and if I disable Intel HD Graphics 4600 in device manager, Windows boots normally and screen works.

Bios version is A09 .
I tried a bios update. In Windows mode, or Dos mode. the operation goes through: restart. but the update process is no longer running. go directly into the windows boot mode.

let Dell System Detect install drivers automatically
In Safe Mode, in Registry, set "DisplayOptimizations" to 0x0  and "NoFastLinkTrainingForeDP" to 0

RESULTS: all the same, screen goes black as soon as Intel HD Graphics 4600  is installed and remains black as soon as Windows is booted, no matter how many times you reboot.

I restored Windows from Advanced Startup Options each time screen would go black as a result of installing Intel HD Graphics driver, sometimes restore failed, and I clean installed Windows from USB media.

The dead giveaway was that when you rebooted after installing the new memory the OS would not load. Help, I have been trying to solve this issue for some time now, the problem is that my screen turns black on startup after the microsoft recommended graphics driver installation? what do I do?

A:My screen turns black after the recommended intel hd graphics install

Is there any CD for installation on the driver.

If yes, do use the manufacturer driver file.

Most windows driver are common, "generic", and your card my not able to use generic.

Google search for the driver, especially on the manufacturer website.
This is most common, to many manufacturer to add updated drivers in the website, as this is recommended.
And they may also upload new drivers.

Windows driver may not be able to use, due to the "generic" as at the point of Windows installation.

We have a number of Dell E5470s which have Intel HD Graphics 520 chips. Since upgrading the computers to Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Edition), when the computers are undocked (E Port Replicator), 99% of the time the built-in display will go entirely black or, black with the mouse pointer flashing. The computer will remain in that state until the computer is re-docked. Once re-docked the computer display will work as expected. This is not an issue when the dock is eliminated; connect and disconnect monitor from the VGA port on the computer.
The laptop has the latest bios (1.44.4), latest video drivers from Dell ( and Synaptics VMM3320 MST Hub Firmware (3.10.3).
I have contacted Dell support and they confirmed that this is not a hardware issue. I was fairly certain of that going in since this issue is consistent with multiple E5470s and multiple EPort Replicators and EPort Plus Replicators. Dell support then had me contact the Dell Software and Driver Division and they too said it was not a hardware issue, but would not help me try to resolve this issue or tell me if this was a known issue or if anything was being done to try to resolve this issue.
I would appreciate suggestions you might have to help resolve this problem.

The problem started in December when Windows 10 updated itself. The screen simply turns black after booting. (Dell symbol appears but black after)
I have found a couple of things out:
- laptop screen works if Intel graphics are disabled
- external screen works on hdmi
- I can access BIOS screen
I have clean installed Windows 10 several times with no success even when upgrading drivers. I have also tried a clean install of Windows 8.1 (which never had an issue before I upgraded) however this also gives the same issue.
I have updated and reset the BIOS with no success.
The laptop also has an nVidia graphics card also but I don't think it is at fault
I'm pretty much out of ideas as to what to try next!
Any help is much appreciated

Hello everybody,
I have a Dell XPS 13 9350 with an Intel HD Iros 540 graphics card.
Every worked nicely until an automatic update turned my screen black. After reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch, I discovered that with the generic graphics driver provided by Windows the screen works, but any specific driver for my card turns the screen black. I tried, with no success, in this order:

All the versions of the graphics driver found on the Dell website, A07, 29 Dec 2016, A06 07, Sep 2016, A05 29, Jun 2016, A04 14, Apr 2016
The latest driver found in the Intel website (

None of these works. As soon as any of these drivers are installed, the screen turns black. Upon reboot, the screen stays black in the login screen.
The only fix I found so far is to remove the driver completely, and use the default graphics driver of Windows. I also had to disable automatic driver updates, otherwise the screen would turn black again upon reinstallation of the driver.
What are my options? Is there any diagnostic information I can provide that can help me troubleshoot the problem? I am a Linux user and I know very little about Windows.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I just reformatted a Samsung laptop and am trying to get it all loaded and patched back up again. The laptop has a AMD Radeon HD 7400M graphics adapter. So after getting it up and running (at a low resolution obviously), I downloaded and installed the latest AMD graphics driver w/ the Catalyst Control Center thingy. Now the display is at the native 1600x900, but Device Manager shows both the AMD graphics adapter and Intel HD Graphics 3000 adapter.

Why are there two listed? I tried removing the Intel adapter earlier and the display went all wonky back to the previous 1024x768 resolution.

I'm the type of computer user who likes to get rid of stuff that's not needed. So are both graphics adapters really needed?

A:Why do I need Intel HD 3000 graphics with AMD Radeon HD?

The two graphics systems are needed to support the hybrid system used on many of today's laptops, the Intel is used for general low graphics intensive applications and the AMD is used for certain higher requirements such as games. The purpose of the dual system is to conserve power when possible and only use the power for the HQ graphics when it is actually needed

They do not show up under display adapters in Device Manager, so I can't enable/install them. I d/l the last 2 versions of drivers form Intel, neither will install -

Windows Update is pushing an Intel graphics driver for T480 and T480s that is broken on Windows 10 Pro 1803 OEM. The recommended update on the Lenovo Support site is also broken. After Windows Update has installed this driver, the screen goes black and I have a blinking cursor. The only thing that works is to turn the laptop off and on again but then after initializing windows I'm supposed to be getting the login screen but instead I get a completely backlit black screen that doesn't respond to anything - no cursor, no blinking, nothing. The workaround is topower off and on 3 times in order to go into safe modeuninstall the graphics card driver in Device Manager and check the box to delete the driver fileschange from Yes (recommended) to No (your device might not work as expected) in Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Installation Settings->Do you want to automatically download manufacturers' apps and custom icons available for your devices.I've experienced this on 2 T480s and 1 T480 in the last 30 hours, so I know it's a general issue. I can reproduce the issue with a brand new laptop fresh out of the box, not domain-joined. The driver that works is from March 2018. Any drivers after this date seem to produce the above issue. The issue doesn't seem to exist on Windows 10 Pro 1709.

I recently purchased a 6460B for DJ'ing purposes. It has a Intel HD Graphics 3000 Sandy Bridge Graphics system. Apparently there are issues with this graphics system, a bug which Intel has never fixed. I quote from the software manufacturer I am looking at using; "WARNING! Some variants of the Intel HD Graphics Device have a known bug within the associated device drivers that may cause serious instability issues (crashes) while attempting to playback videos utilizing DirectShow video playback technology. If you intend to utilize CompuHost on a computer that incorporates such a device we strongly recommend that you first install the Evaluation version and give it a thorough test drive to ensure reliability prior to purchase!" Apparently this issue is somewhat widespread in the Intel HD Graphics line, regardless of dual monitor use or not as the DirectShow failure is apparent on even single screen use. The screen flickers constantly or just doesn't show any images. Is Intel planning on correcting this error? It can be seen in Compuhost, any version and Swift Elite V4. The laptop has 4gb RAM and a 500gb hard drive. I should also add that although failures are different, the failure of the HD 3000 is consistent when it comes to DirectShow. The Laptop is running the most recent BIOS F63a and I did the F61 to update the video firmware. The problem was present before F61, during F61 and after F61, and F63. Obviously this problem has not been addressed by Intel during ... Read more

anyone knows how the HD 2500 compares to the 3000 and 4000? I'm mostly looking for improved video transcoding compared to my Pentium G620 and don't really need the "gaming" graphics capabilities. But I haven't been able to find any information as to how the HD 2500 compares.

The fact that 2500 < 3000 is not really a good sign though...

A:Intel HD graphics 2500 vs 3000/4000?

the 3000 and 4000 are pretty superior of course the actual speed they function at will depend on which intel cpu it's paired with.
From what I've seen they actually are superior to even some of the higher dollar dedicated graphics cards in the way of transcoding. (if you are a gamer you would want to consider the dedicated, but if all you want is transcoding you are good)

However, you will only get the benefit if the software you are using supports the new quick sync features.
Intel? Quick Sync Video

In the instances where your software does support the features the 3k and 4k are twice as fast easily...

I'm planning on buying a Dell inspiron laptop. I am wondering what the difference is between Intel Core Solo and Intel Core Duo processors. Is it worth more money for the Duo when all I'll use the laptop for is Office applications and internet browsing?

A:difference is between Intel Core Solo and Intel Core Duo processors.

If you're using it mostly for applications and multitasking, then yes, the core duo would be a better choice. I would say shell out the extra money.

Good morning! I wonder if anyone else has either experienced or solved the issue I am currently having with my Yoga 710. I looked for similar postings that may have solved this issue but did not find them so if I missed it, I apologize.  After visiting the IT help desk at my university several times as certain programs such as Spotify desktop, Zoom, Skype, SPSS Amos Graphics (a statistical modeling program) would open but display a black screen, the technicians realized that the Intel 520 Graphics Driver appeared to cause an issue once it advanced past a particular version of the software. They rolled back the graphics driver and everything was working great until last night my computer wanted to update Windows 10 which automatically updated the graphics driver and eliminated the option to roll back to a previous version of the graphics driver. Now I can't use a significant number of the programs on my laptop.  I could rollback the Windows update but that doesn't seem helpful overall. It seems silly to keep having to roll back the graphics driver when the Windows update seems to be forcing it to be more up-to-date. On an Intel forum it seems like Intel is saying that Lenovo has tested it and says everything is OK, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Any ideas or links to solutions would be most appreciated! Best wishesMandy

Hi there!
After my computer (a desktop not a laptop) was repaired after some issues on it I tried to play some games (Rome 2 Total War and some other) and encountered some delays when trying to play them. When I looked into it I discovered that the games used Intel HD Graphics 3000 instead of Nvidia Geforce gtx 680. So I tried to switch from Intel to NVIDIA. After reading some articles on this in the internet I deactivated the Intel graphics card in the device manager hoping that it would automatically switch to the other graphics card the NVIDIA card this way. But this did not happen instead the screen turned black and I?m now not able to even get to Windows or my BIOS settings. How can I fix this? Do I first have to reactivate Intel before I can switch to NVIDIA and if so how or is there a possibility to directly acces NVIDIA instead?

Looking forward for suggestions on how to solve this

A:How to switch from Intel HD Graphics 3000 to NVIDIA GEFORCE 680

Normally, Windows uses whichever video is detected by the BIOS (and if the BIOS detects a video card usually it will switch to that card).

Since this was serviced, check the power connection to the Video card (if it has one). Could be it was disconnected by the service tech during service and was not reconnected. If the card is still installed, the PCIe power connection is needed or it will not be detected or work.

Also, if you switch Video from the internal to a separate video card, you must physically switch the Monitor connection to the Video card.

I bought an Asus K53S laptop about 4 months ago and recently I went to msconfig and disabled some startup programes. Three of them were Intel(R) Common User Interface:

" \igfxtray.exe"
" \hkcmd.exe"

What I basically did was unchecking those 3 Intel items as I already have Nvidia running in startup. I then enabled it back again and now it won't run in startup eventhough it is marked in msconfig. I cannot view the Intel icon in the taskbar as I used to see it before. I can only see the green Nvidia icon.

The first time I reboot the pc, I could only see a transparent Intel icon. I right clicked it and hit "Exit". Then in the second time I reboot, the icon didn't show eventhought it was enabled in msconfig.

Also, before I disabled them and enabled them back again, Windows Update installed an Intel update.

I would be extremely appreciated if anyone could help me with this problem.

A:Intel HD Graphics 3000 auto disable at startup

Check your notification area and see if the icon is just disabled from showing. Right click open area of taskbar, select properties, then select customize tab.

Since a few days my display driver keeps crashing.

This is wat happens:
- Screen starts to flicker
- Whole screen becomes black, purple or green
- A notification appears that says my display driver crashed and has been recovered
- Sometimes my screen stays black and I cannot get it to display my screen again (plugging in and unplugging a monitor via HDMI works sometimes to get my screen back)

Some extra info that might be helpful:
- Sometimes the system works well for several hours, other times it is completely unusable.
- I have had issues with my system turning off randomly two weeks ago, this was most likely caused by the mainboard getting to hot (90+ celsius). I fixed this by cleaning the air outlets. Temperatures are now below 60 celsius).

After a sudden overnight update to Windows 10 the machine started to freeze and crash - mostly while the mouse cursor moves or dialog opens or other display changes happen quickly. I figure I should update the graphics card, which is listed as Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 My Envy 4 machine runs a 64-bit system on core i3 2376 CPU @1.4Ghz For that machine, the Intel website will not give an option for a Windows 10 update. The driver version is wayyyyy behind: version Current version update is for Windows 8 for that graphic card. It is here:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81500/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000-for-2nd-Generation-Intel-Core-...The version there is listed as which is signed to a year ago, with a slightly lower version number released 2/2016 (16 months ago). It is only given as an .exe package which will not install because of spec incompatibility. Can I get the Win8 driver for the Win10 machine? If this makes sense where can I get the file itself and how to do this? TIA Yuval

Hi there.Have an issue with my display adapter.Every time I boot my "Ideapad Z580" on, I cannot connect to any external displays without first having to update my display adapter in the device manager.  For some reason it seems to roll back to an earlier driver while either its shutting down or booting up.  I've deleted old driver files and it still has the same problem.  Whenever I try to connect to my tv, by either WIN+P combination or the Intel control panel, it cannot find my TV or any other Monitor I plug in.It's been like this for a year or so, never actually thought about writing on the forums about it.I use a larger TV for display output (bad eye sight) and it's just turned into more of a nuisance than anything.Any help would be great, if there's anyway I can provide more information just let me know!

Alright so I've got a serious problem here, my manufacturer which is ASUS in my case will NOT be supporting this graphcis card or the computer itself so I'm left out in the dark.
I have tried with everything and I came to the conclusion that modded drivers works the best which still is pretty bad(switchable Graphics profiles are not saved - Adding Photoshop for example today results that in a week it will be wiped out and the performance will be zero)

The generic AMD drivers does not work, the HP drivers works 50-50, I can Control Everything with switchable Graphics
except for the manual program adding and the modded leshcat drivers are not of my liking.

Considering the fact that AMD supports ENDURO on the whole Radeon HD 7000M series I would expect it to work on the generic drivers.

So if anyone got anything that could help my situation I would gladly hear you out.

I'm thinking that using the modded drivers will be my last desperate move.

P.S. I'm also not using the newest Intel Drivers as they are reported to cause problems

Sorry for bumping but is there anyone that can help with this?
