Viewing in Firefox vs IE6 [moved to Web Design]

Q: Viewing in Firefox vs IE6 [moved to Web Design]

Don't know if anyone can help, but hope someone can offer suggestion.

I have a website and the index page has a 'drop-down' menu (for various pages on the site) where visitors can click and go to other pages on the site.

When I view the INDEX page in IE6, the 'drop-down' menu appears in the center of the page, where we want it to appear.

However, when we view the INDEX page in Firefox, the 'drop-down' menu appears on the left side of the page.

Would anyone know what we might have to do (correct) to make the 'drop-down' menu on the INDEX page appear in the center of page when viewed on Firefox?

Here is the beginning part of the HTML for the 'drop-down' menu:

<P ALIGN=CENTER>
<SCRIPT language=JavaScript>
function formHandler(){
var URL = document.form.mysites.options
[document.form.mysites.selectedIndex].value;
parent.location.href = URL;
}
</SCRIPT>
<P align=center>
<FORM name=form><SELECT onchange=formHandler() size=1 name=mysites> <OPTION value="" selected>My Pages 2-28
<OPTION value=http://www.XXXXX.com/XXXXX/Page2.html>Page 2
<OPTION value=http://www.XXXXX.com/XXXXX/Page3.html>Page 3

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We need to see the site to work out problems such as these.

At a glance of the snippet of code you have provided, I would guess its to do with firefox's defualt values compared to IE. Using <p> tags for a layout element such as a menu isn't a great idea.

If you show us the site I can do some tests and try to find the problem.

i don't think this is the right place to post, but i couldn't find anything about video support, but this thread suggested multimedia, and mpgs and wmv fit into that category... if its in the wrong place could a mod move it to the appropriate location?

so here's my 1st problem

i have some mpg files that don't play properly(all mpg1 codecs) however others do of the same format/codec i figured that maybe some frames were corrupt/missing.

so here's the low down
windows media player - reports correct time stamp, but stops when it hits the effected area of the file
winamp - reports wrong timestamp(about 300mins), and stops at the same time
VLC - reports wrong timestamp(till the crash, 50seconds) and stops playing at 50 seconds
media player classic - reports right timestamp, and plays all the way through

this is a bit strange, cause a few years ago the file worked(on win2k, but after a while it stopped like a year after format) and under my new winxp install it never worked

so maybe its something Microsoft done? like update or something?
so im thinking where can i find an old codec, but since MPC doesn't seem to have any built into the install pack anywhere, im wondering what do do.

the second one is related to wmv files

again, its not every file. just the ones that seem to have a higher FPS and/or resolution

in every player except media player classic, the video hangs or is jerky(or doesn't do anything). in MPC everything is gravy... btw only some WMV3... Read more

I dont know if this should really go under here, but I need help on how to remove bbLean from my PC. I have XP, and I want the original format back.

A:bbLean[moved from web design]

This thread should be in XP support.

Removing the shell should be just as easy as uninstalling it. If that is not possible then you would need to either do a repair install or a full install of XP.

Hello

I have a site which uses google maps. Up until a few days ago these maps loaded properly in both IE7 and Firefox. Now they only load properly in Firefox.

As well as the google maps not loading properly in IE7 I'm getting errors like Internet Explore cannot open .... operation aborted.

I know that the site is working fine in Firefox (and had been working fine in IE, until very recently) I have not changed the site at all so the problem seems to lie within IE

I've checked this out at other computers as well as my own and encounter the same problem - works perfectly in Firefox, errors and google maps not displaying properly in IE

My site is www.deeneyproperty.com

So here's the info... i have about 200 Windows XP desktop clients and about 100 or so Windows XP laptop clients all running IBM ThinkCentre/Thinkpad hardware.

Obviously they have a login script, we are running active directory.

What i want to do is insert a script or make a separate batch script to call from the login script that does the following
Read's all the windows environment variables, specifically the hardware info, machine name, dont really care about user variables.
I want the hardware serial numbers as much as possible, the processor type, speed, stepping, RAM amount and machine name
I then want to dump that to a text (txt) file that is named the machine name
so if machine is pc1 create a text file named pc1.txt and then copy that text file to a network share such as \\fileserver\inventory\

I understand most functions of batch scripting i just don't know how to call all the variables and dump the text file to the network share

Anyone with any ideas or examples? thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm developing an internet application with a flash object embedded on a html site. The flash application (as3) uses a camera (flash.media.Camera).

The swf object works fine, but when I remove it from the DOM, it is still active somewhere in the deep and dark background of IE.

In Firefox or Safari (both PC and Mac) the object is disposed correctly (indicated by the green webcam light turning off). In IE, the camera light is still active after removing the object.

Did anyone of you experience the same problem or has a solution for this bug? Is there any IE specific procedure to remove a flash object completely from memory?

I am trying to create a 2-column html table. I want to put a large image in a cell within the second column of the table, and "wrap" the image in <div> tags so I can limit the display width, and have scroll bars so the user can scroll the image to view the entire thing.

The sizing of the <div> works correctly but, the table is always the width of the ENTIRE image...nothing I do seems to limit the width of the table. So, even though the <div> is the correct width, and has the scroll bars, the table is the width of the underlying image.

I will include some sample text to demonstrate the problem. Just choose a large image that you might have on your machine, and insert it's path into the <img> tag. The example image I am using is 1600X1200.

PS: in this example I am using "min-width" and "max-width", but the problem is the same if I simply use "width".

This code works properly in Firefox. Is there anything I can do to get the desired behavior in IE or, are table widths determined by the contents of the table in IE, regardless of the properties that are defined?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can give.

A:html tables in Internet Explorer [Moved to design]

Hi
My web programming skills aren't really good enough to help you but i have a few suggestions.

Don't use tables and position everything using css
Its actually very easy to learn i used a tutorial at the website html-dog (google for it) which was very helpful.
Tables should only really be used for tabular data and are not a way to lay out websites.

I think it will look awful if you have to scroll to see the rest of the picture in the way that you describe, if you have to put it in a table why not put a thumbnail in which when clicked links to the full size version of the picture?

Attempt to repair the damaged file, folder or file system index using Chkdsk. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type chkdsk /f <drive>:, where <drive> is the letter of the drive on which the damaged file, folder or file system index exists.

As far as I know, your History folder is the way to look at which websites you have visited.

Having NT or not, makes no difference.

My extremely simple website doesn't work in firefox. It pops up as html code on screen instead of the formatting it ought to be.
Furthermore, when I view source with IE the code looks good, but when I view it with FF it looks like gibberish.

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Is this Win 7 or Firefox at fault? Moved from Mozilla/Firefox browsers

Hi,
I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

I've been having some other problems recently with my computer that I'm still working on. I'm using WIN ME currently. Yeah, I know- it's crap.

So right now I'm using Firefox as a browser, and it's been working just fine up to just a week ago when for some reason media viewing became an issue. Whenever I try to, for example, go to quicktime's website to view a movie trailer, all I see is the broken quicktime symbol. Even when I try to play a flash game, all I see is that same symbol. Even when I go to my homepage where flashy advertisements would be on the side usually, they are just showing that same broken quicktime symbol. I know Apple recently put out a newer version of quicktime, but running on WIN ME, I can't even utilize it. But even so, it shouldn't matter since most of the stuff I'm trying to use isn't even Quicktime related. It's also very aggravating whenever any other kind of media player should be playing on a website, and all I see is a quicktime error in its place. So any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I know of about:cache , and I can see that the page is IN my cache, but all it does is lead straight back to the domain (which no longer has the file). I know where the cache files are stored - they're all a bunch of random letters & numbers - is there a way to actually get the file from these?

Thanks

Hello all,

I have Firefox as my browser and Yahoo as my search engine. No matter how many updates, add-ons etc I use from Mozilla re: Adobe Flash player, Firefox continues to block Flash.

My question is, what can I use as a substitute to Flash and how do I install it to work on my browser
Thanks,
Windjammer14

I'm just learning about buses and it's my understanding that the system bus combined the data bus, address bus and control bus. According to wikipedia the system bus isn't used any more and the front side bus is popular. I don't really understand, what is a front side bus?

A:What's the difference between the system bus design and front-side bus design?

Hello,
I am running Firefox 1.5.0.2 and Flash Player 8. Everytime I open a web page with a flash element (such as a movie or game), it begins to load, and then the whole flash window disappears and acts as if nothing is there (the text moves up in its place). I don't know why it is doing this and it didn't use to do this before. Please help. Thanks

Are you using Adblock? If you are, do the following:
Open the Adblock preferences in Firefox, Tools> Adblock> Preferences
Click on Adblock Options button, and uncheck Obj-Tabs

It would be great if it worked on vista too! Thanks

A:Does anybody know any safe Firefox history viewing software for XP?

I am not sure what you are after. You can view your history inside of Firefox. If you cleared history or have the option checked to clear history on exit then no viewer will find your history.

Here is a utility to view Firefox history that works on XP and Vista and provides more info then Firefox's own History viewer.

Hi. I just got this problem about 3 days ago. When I am on youtube and watch a video then click on another video while this one is still playing Firefox hangs like its about to crash(I cant click anything) but it loads the next page about 10 seconds later. Then when I go on another site like Google or anything else Firefox just randomly crashes. What is going on. This is happening with IE as well. I tried uninstalling but it didn't work

Hi,

This sounds like a problem with something on your computer. I am not an expert nor am I am member of the HJT forum so I can't help you with any of that. But I would recommend that you make sure that all your scans (spyware, adware etc) are up-to-date, and then run them. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have a look at this site. It has a lot of great info, by a great member.

Lets start there and see what happens.

Cheers!

Hi, Please could someone help me. I am having problems viewing a video which was created with Camtasia. I downloaded a zipped file and the camtasia video was within this.

I keep getting the following error message - The Camtasia Studio video content presented here requires JavaScript to be enabled and the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player. If you are you using a browser with JavaScript disabled please enable it now. Otherwise, please update your version of the free Flash Player by downloading here.

I have done what it suggests and still it won't play. I have also looked and similar posts on here and followed their advice and it still doesn't play.

Any advice would be so much appreciated as these videos are part of a course I am studying.

Thank you

A:Problems viewing camtasia videos with Firefox

I'm going to guess you got a web page with either a swf or an flv file.
Do you have flash for firefox? And is javascript enabled in firefox? If you're using firefox 3.5, it's under tools, options, contents.
flash for firefox is at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I have just started to use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser, and cannot understand why, when I close the program, but open it again later, my last web pages are still showing. In other words, If I want to get information on something, I go to that website, and after I close it down I cannot get rid of it, as it is still there when I go to Firefox for something else! I hope that I have explained this OK and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

A:Solved: Web pages do not close after viewing in Mozilla Firefox

Tools - Options - General tab - you have three choices for "When Firefox starts." If yours is set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" you want to change that.

Hello,

Using Firefox.

It used to be that I could click the "Back Arrow" and pull up the last screen to view again.
Or, I could click many, many times this back arrow, and view quite a ways back.

Now, no more.

At best, I can click once, and that's about it.

What should I set in Options (I guess) to be able to re-access many of the previous views ?
Is there a built in limit ?

Thanks,
bob

A:Viewing Previous Screens With Back-Arrow in Firefox ?

If you right-click on the back arrow, you should see a list of previously visited sites for that tab. If there are fewer than you expect, could it be that you had them open in their own tab?

I can view videos fine on other sites, like YouTube, but on Comedy Central's site, I can hear the audio, but the video doesn't appear. I've checked that my Flash is updated. It only seems to be happening in Firefox, because it works in Chrome.

A:Trouble viewing Comedy Central videos in Firefox

Use the Flash Troubshooter  Press the Yellow Check Now button.

There are different versions of Flash.  Firefox uses the Flash Plug-in, Chrome has its own built in Flash, Internet Explorer uses teh Flash ActiveX.  You need the right version for the browser you are using.

I use Firefox as my normal browser. When I want to print out my bank statement from Halifax , I press the ?Print Icon? , the bank statement is displayed and I then have to press the print prompt. However , when I press the prompt , all the data disappears and I am left with a blank bank statement template to print out.

However , if I use Google Chrome as my browser and I repeat all the aforementioned actions , I get a completed detailed bank statement printed out.

What is the problem with Firefox ?

I switched to Firefox some weeks ago. Somewhere in the process, I seem to have lost the ability to view images on websites. NOt always, but often enough to be more than just an incovenience. Did I lose some Java - even though I don't really understand what Java is or how it works. What is the difference between Java and Javascript. I think one or the other has been disabled or even partially erased. Please help.
