Using Nortons 360 AV.Unable to select and run full scan.

Q: Using Nortons 360 AV.Unable to select and run full scan.

When I select full scan, I am unable to select the yes button, as it slips down and becomes covered up by the task bar. Many thanks for your help.

Preferred Solution: Using Nortons 360 AV.Unable to select and run full scan.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Using Nortons 360 AV.Unable to select and run full scan.

Sounds like your resolution is set to low. Increase it by right clicking the desktop, and choose screen resolution. Under resolution, set it to the recommended, and click apply and then ok.

Hi, i hope someone here will be able to help one of our clients.

He is running Symantec Norton Anti Virus and when a full system scan is attempted the error message of:

"Symantec has encountered a problem and needs to close"

appears and proceeds to close Norton.

Live Updates work fine and have also asked the user to run this:

which runs but advises that it cannot detect Norton (!) even though the application loads up.

Any ideas folks?

A:Symantec: Unable to run a full scan.

Symantec has an online checking tool

It might identify the problem for the user.

I see that was included in the link you posted now...sorry. However, NAV is not one of the programs that tool checks or, can check and fix, apparently...it's not in the list...

If it's malware affecting the AV, and it sure can, we may be able to help spot it if you do this:

Getting Hijackthis and installing it correctly

_ _ _

go to here and download 'Hijack This!' double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.
Click on the entry in start menu or on the desktop to run HijackThisClick to expand...
First open a reply here in your thread to have it ready.
Run Hijackthis.exe, and
Select the "Scan and save a log" button...

When it is done scanning> the Save box will become available, save the log as hijackthis.txt which will open with Notepad. Hit the EDIT> Select All then the EDIT>Copy button at the top of your log, Go back to TSG, and click once in the blank reply space, then go to the top of your browser window and select EDIT>Paste, then submit the post.
Please do NOT use HJT yourself to remove anything, most of what it shows is good and needed by the system.

This problem began (I think) after I removed a trojan horse using HijackThis.

To fix the problem, I reinstalled Norton AV and got all the updates; that did not resolve the problem.

My OS is Windows Me. I don't appear to have any other problems with my computer (everything else works fine). The only software program that doesnt work is Norton AV, and in particular when it attempts to perform a full system scan. I am able to go to a specific file, or folder, and scan it using NOrton AV without any difficulty.

When I attempt a full system scan, Norton AV stops at about 5,800 files (plus or minus a 100 files).

I think the Norton AV gets to a certain point and then continually rescans a particular file or folder (for hours) until I turn the scan off. It seems to get hung up at a specific place for awhile, and after adding or removing data from the hard drive, the place where it gets hung up changes.

I went to the Symmantec website and typed in my problem. They came up with a number of steps I could take to resolve the problem, but none of them worked. I don't believe they have an answer for my problem in their database.

Does anyone have any idea why my Norton AV is hanging up at about 5, 800 files and is unable to complete the full system scan? I have all the updates.

Thanks for any help

My laptop was running quite slow with opening certain programs and also many programs would become unresponsive if I tried to do too many things at once (Firefox and iTunes especially), and so I successfully ran registry and adware cleaners, and tried to run Malwarebytes (and alternatives), but found that I couldn't run a full scan without it becoming completely unresponsive and effectively crashing my computer. In the end I decided to just restore my laptop to factory settings hoping that that would be an easy way to get rid of whatever the problem was, but I'm still having the same issues with unresponsive programs and I can't even run a full antivirus scan without it getting stuck somewhere around 8% and I even tried to run Malwarebytes again but it couldn't go more than a couple of seconds before crashing. A massive amount of windows updates were installed, which took about 90 minutes to complete, but then it got stuck twice on the 'configuring windows' screen and I had to restart it to get it going again (after waiting about an hour each time) but the problems started before those updates, and are still going. I haven't really done much to screw it up since the factory restore - uninstalled some preloaded rubbish and installed Malwarebytes (then uninstalled it) OpenOffice, Firefox, iTunes and VLC player, and transferred some personal files back onto it.

It isn't completely unusable at all, it's just that I'm having to c... Read more

My McAfee Real-Time Scan will not remain enabled. When I try to run either Quick Scan or Full Scan, an error message comes up, telling me to return to the McAfee Internet Security Home and to try to run the scan again.

I have followed their instructions for re-enabling the Real-Time Scan to the best of my abilities, by trying to restart the McShield Service, and by running the oas-disabled-fix.cmd utility that they instructed me to download. The oas-disabled-fix.cmd utility will not run.

I have contacted McAfee and they have told me that it is a problem with Windows Update. I have contacted Microsoft and told them that as well, but they seem to be trying to rule out any other possible cause, than what McAfee says is the actual cause of the problem, thereby dragging this out even longer.

Microsoft is supposed to be getting back to me again tomorrow, but any other help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

I found these forums googling a alert I have been getting with this new version I installed a few weeks ago. I have an older pc just over 4 years old and never have done anything to it. It still works well, It is a custom gaming machine built by velocity micro and I paid a premium for it. This is the longest I have ever gone with out a reformat or some major tragedy since I got my first computer over 10 years ago. I have a lot of common sense type technical know how , I keep my scans up to date, I maintain my machine and so everything has been going along quite well. Till now and is it possible that this new version of Nortons has caused my machine to get wonky or is it just time.

The problems I have are really minor, my temps on my processor have gone up a bit to a whole 35 c while my video card is still 28 and ambient is 30. Of course my temp gauges could be wrong but I mostly watch them for drastic changes since those temps are on the lower average side. But I have been opening up the side which I know alot of people do when running high end video cards and all anyway. I have checked my fans and cleaned the case and still to keep it from going up to 42 at the highest I just leave the side open a bit. One changed since I installed this new version, the next one is I have never had the alert from Windows telling me my virtual memory is low but it has happened twice now and it seems to be when Nortons is asking me to do a reboot so I can get new updates.. A:Opinion On Nortons 2008 Virus Scan

Hi Suz52, to BC!Anyway I have to say, yes programs like Norton and McAffe seem to dominate your PC as a resource hog but aside from that why would a gaming PC be experiencing net buffer overflows? Strange but maybe there is something there... (BTW I'm on dial-up shared between two PCs AAARRHH!)To see if the new Norton AV is your problem try uninstalling it and running some system maintenence. If it speeds up after that then you might as well use some other AV program. A good pay for AV is Eset Nod32, or a free one like Avast! Antivirus or AVG.Anywho I'll be wondering why you get those messages while I make my lunch so I'll probably come back with some food based explanation Hope that helps!

Almost every time I do quick scan and got nothing and I think it is good. However, I just read online, it says that when quick scan does not find anything then you do deep scan. It confuses me, since it means I should do deep scan all the time. ?

A:quick scan vs deep scan/full scan ( antivirus )

the 1000$ question is
which anti-virus
ON windows defender and malwarebytes and many others only a quick scan is necessary
The converse of what you have read is usually the case eg. You do a quick scan and only if that finds something should you then need to follow it with a full scan
For instance a threat scan on Malwarebytes paid for edition or the scan on the free version will scan up to 99% of the system
A full scan also scans the system restore points and other unusual places to detect, or at least try to detect, all possible traces of infection.
As I said it depends on the AV and to some extent the OS which I presume is not Windows 2000 as indeed commented on by my colleague Cookiegal in another of your topics
Also, it appears you're running Windows 7 and if you don't still have your Windows 2000 computer you should visit your profile and change that information so that it's current which makes it easier to help you in some casesClick to expand...

In the past day, my computer has been very tempermental. I am running Vista Home Premium and have been for about 2 months without any issues. I run Avira Antivir and Kaspersky Internet Security in the background. I ran a full Kaspersky scan and have no issues. Antivir has not found anything either, except for HP false positives. When I run Ad-Aware and Spybot scans, nothing shows up. I also ran CCleaner to scrub temp files and registry. Also, a quick scan with MBAM was clean.

But when I try to run a full scan in MBAM or SuperAntiSpyware, the computer hangs. This usually happens when the screen saver kicks in. So I disabled the screen saver, but it still happens. I cannot access anything at that point and have to power off from the power supply (ctl alt delete won't work).

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hey all.
I was running a full scan on my Win8 system using Defender.  After 15 minutes, scan was three-quarters completed with no problems, so  I left the computer for five minutes.  When I returned, Defender had switched over to a Quick Scan in order to finish up.
No threats found, either by Defender or by MBam, which I ran afterwards.  But is it unusual for Defender to switch from Full to Quick scan mid-operations?

A:Windows Defender Full Scan Switches Over To Quick Scan

I never heard of that happening before so I'm not sure how it occurred. There are three types of scans offered by Windows 8/10 Defender and most other anti-virus/anti-malware programs:Quick Scan only checks the areas of your computer most likely to contain malware...the most prevalent and common places where malware typically hides. The length of time for performing a Quick scan will vary but it generally takes about 15-30 minutes so they can be performed daily.Full Scan is much more comprehensive since it scans the entire hard drive (all folders/files) which can number in the thousands. The length of time for performing a Full scan will also vary but because it is so comprehensive, this type of scan can take several hours. Most Full Scans can be scheduled to run late at night when not using the computer so you can perform a weekly scan without having to monitor it.Custom Scan allows the user to select any files and folders on the hard drive to be scanned. In most cases when performing routine security checks, only a Quick Scan is needed since it checks the areas of your computer most likely to contain malware...the most prevalent and common places where malware typically hides. A Full scan is generally recommended only for heavily infected systems.

A:Whats the difference between Quick Scan and Full Scan

A quick scan only scans areas known to be used by most malware infections. In most cases, a quick scan is all that's necessary for Malwarebytes to do its job. A full scan, as you might imagine, scans every file on the drive.~Blade

Full scan by definition is "a thorough scan of the entire system". It took me one full hour to do a MBAM configured custom scan for the entire C:\. At this point people seem satisfied with the above definition. However, I did a file scan with Spybot S&D on the folder "spybot S&D" and it took me over 3 hours. In this scan, Spybot look at each file to see if it is clean or not.

The question is obvious, If Full scan does not scan each file through the whole system, what it does ?

A:full scan vs file scan ?

The variations in the type of scans depend on the software manufacturer.

You can read an in-depth discussion around this topic on MBAM's forums: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/10405-difference-between-quick-scan-and-full-scan/

Given the huge difference in run time, when is Quick Scan considered sufficient and when should you use Full Scan.

Thank you,

A:Quick Scan vs. Full Scan

Hi PadRat,
I generally run a quick scan each night, when I'm sleeping. I then run a full scan once a week, again when sleeping, of if I encounter issues. Eg. Slow performance etc.
This is just a rule of thumb and may not be 100% effective, but I find it works for me.

Hi. I'm having a problem where I am unable to select what I want in XP. If I click anywhere on the desktop it goes to the top of the column of icons and not where I clicked. If I use the arrow keys to then move down to something else it returns to the top of the column as soon as I let go of the arrow. I have a similar problem in Internet Explorer. Any help would be appreciated because I am not even sure what to Google to try to find a solution.

A:Unable to select anything

Interesting. I have never heard of something like this.

Try booting into safe mode and see if you experience this same problem.

When booting the computer, continually hit f8 until the screen appears. Select safe mode.

Well I got a big problem.

A couple days ago I noticed network connectivity issues. Random connection drops, overall bad connection, etc. I recently had some really bad malware and I removed it, so I suspected leftover malware from the start. I went to check Windows Update to see if I missed a security update, and it wasn't even on my computer. Something removed the service completely off my computer, so I found a .reg to fix it. I then started Windows Update and found that I had 30 updates missing and updated all of them successfully.

I then decided to see what was going on with my Windows Firewall, only to find that it was also removed. Wasn't in my services or anything. So I downloaded the .reg to fix that, tried to activate the service, only to run into another roadblock that I still haven't been able to fix, an error stating

"The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".

Ok. So I checked my services again and I believe that some more were completely missing(Base Filtering Engine, NSI proxy Service). So to try and remedy this, I attempted an sfc /scannow in elevated cmd prompt.

Then another brick wall. I get to 59% and then I get this message

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".

Trustedinstaller service is turned on, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message. But... Read more

Beginning last week I have been unable to click on menu items (in browsers, applications, etc...). I also cannot select links on some web pages (none in IE, selected in Firefox). I have reformatted and reinstalled the OS (XP Pro x64 on one machine, Vista Home Premium on the other) to no avail. My antivirus finds nothing. I even tried replacing the hard drive and doing a new install with no success.

Any help?

PS: If I click multiple times (5 or more) SOMETIMES the menus will open. Drop down lists do not work either, such as when you have to choose one item from a list with an arrow on the right side. I have to use keyboard commands to access them.

I'm using Windows XP and I'm having a problem with my wireless. I can't seem to pick an EAP type from the Authentication tab when adding a new preferred wireless network in the Wireless Network Connection Properties menu. I can enter all the SSID, encryption, etc just fine, but when I try to pick the EAP type (I need PEAP) from the dropdown menu on the Authentication tab, it doesn't work. There aren't any options in the dropdown menu to pick from.

It used to work just fine, but one day it just stopped and when I tried looking at the wireless settings I encountered this problem. Not sure what could have caused it.

If anyone knows what could be causing this and could help me out I'd very much appreciate it.

A:Unable to select EAP type (Win XP)

So, uh, any ideas?

I am fairly new to creating databases in Access (2016). So please bear with me. I have tblIndividual_Demographics (Main Table) that has one to many relationship with tblIntake. tblIntake has one to one relationship with other tables.

I created a form frmActiveIntake with controls from tblIndividual_Demographics and tblIntake.

For some reason, combo boxes bound to tblIndividual_Demographics work fine but those bound to tblIntake display values but do not work. I am unable to select a value from the dropdown.

Row Source Type: Table/Query; Bound Column: 1; Limit to List: No; Allow Value Edits: Yes; Inherit Value List: Yes; Show only row source value: No; Enabled: Yes; Locked: No; Auto expand: Yes

Please help me understand why my combo box isnt working. Is this pertaining to my table relationships? I have attached the file. Thanks much!

Recently my Windows 7 laptop has refused to play any Windows sounds (errors, default beep when changing volume, etc.)

I have looked in my Personalization, and the Sounds option is followed by the word Loading. Upon entering the window to change Windows' sounds, the current sound scheme is blank with none of the default or installed sound schemes appearing.

Is there any way of fixing this, besides reinstalling Windows (I do not have a disc or enough internet to download an ISO) or anything drastic that may cause me to lose data and settings?

A:No Windows sounds, unable to select any

The sounds (schemes) seem to be tied to Themes. There is nothing, that I see in my system, in the turn windows functions on or off for themes.

You could try running SFC /scannow in a DOS command window, but I think you will need the Windows disc if it finds any system files missing. But, give it a shot anyway.'

Other than the System File Checker scan, I don't think there is anything else you can do without a disc. If you have a friend that has the capability to download and burn a Windows DVD ISO, that would be the next best option.

I've got an HP 8530p, with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card. After installing Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit the default resolution is 1680x1050. I don't like this resolution, it's too high and gives me headaches trying to read the tiny print. Previously on Vista and XP with the exact same screen size I had the option of 1440x900 resolution which was perfect, but for some reason it is not an option with 7. There is no 16x9 resolution option until 1280x768, which is of course too small. I went to the ATI website and installed the beta Windows 7 64 bit driver to no avail, it didn't change a thing.

Even more annoying my secondary monitor, a 19" widescreen, has the option of 1440x900 but not 1680x1050.

Gah! Any ideas how to get a 1440x900 resolution, or why there is nothing available between 1280x768 and 1680x1050?

I'm going to describe this problem the best I can. When I go on Google and for instance type in Boeing 737 or other subjects with pictures, then I select "Image" of the picture, I get a whole slew of pictures on the subject. Then I select (left click) one of the pictures and normally that picture will stand out on its own but my problem was that when I do that nothing happens. I tried on different subjects but still the problem persists. This only happened yesterday when I was collecting pictures of commercial jets I planned to use as screensaver. Any ideas why this is happening?

I recently bought a new router (Linksys E4200 dual band router). Set up. Connected wirelessly from my laptop successfully. Question is this... I am sure that I am connecting only on the 2.4GHz network and can't make the laptop connect on 5GHz.
The laptop is Sony Vaio S series. Wireless adapter is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN which (according to the Intel page) is a dual band adapter.
So, I have a dual band router, a dual band adapter but cannot connect to the 5GHz band.
When I look at the available WLANs in Network & Sharing, I can only see the 2.4GHz band (I gave the 5GHz band a different SSID, and this is not listed).
Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Apart from the puzzle over 5GHz, everything else is fine... can see all other network devices (SAN, printer etc...)
HOW do I see, select, force my system to use 5GHz?

A:Unable to see, select, use 5GHz network

Set 5GHz network as "Wireless-N only" instead of "Mixed", in router settings.
Works fine now.

Something has taken over my computer. This virus closed my Zone Alarm firewall and AVG Anti Virus programs and I am unable to get them on again! I'm unable to run a HijackThis or run Malewarebytes programs either. The only way I can get online, is via shortcuts in my favorites menu, which I opened from a documents folder.

When this first happened, an "XP Total Security" window kept opening , and doing a scan for viruses at every reboot. Then it would prompt me to a website, to buy a program to fix it.

I was unable to run msconfig to uncheck it at start-up. I am unable to open the add/remove page in the control panel.

My computer is a 2005 HP Pavilion zv6000 series laptop, running XP.

I also tried System Restore, which I tried to run from Safe Mode, but it would not go back to before the problem.

I am unable to run any .exe programs at all.

I tried to Format the drive, but it would not let me do it.

I need this computer to find a job. I wish I could get a new computer one, but I just don't have the money.

Ad-Aware full system scans seem to be taking for ever! I'm not sure if it's since the last Ad-Aware update I did or not, but it's certainly from around that time but every time I do a full scan it takes literally hours. I have a scan going now which has been running for over 12 hours.

Is this typical of Ad-Aware these days for whatever reason?

My McAfee Total Protection security system struggles to get passed 36% complete during a full-scan. At 36% it slows down to a 'crawl.' Almost an hour can go by and the scan will only be at 40% or so - from that 36%. Vob files are being scanned at that particular point although I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Also, when I try to close or cancel the scan the monitor/screen usually 'freezes.' This causes me to reboot the entire computer. Anyone any ideas as to why this is happening ?
