Q: Stop: c0000145 Application Error, every other boot, Window XP

I've searched the web for authoritative treatment of this subject and found nothing other than the sledge hammer approach of doing a clean install. I have a Lenovo 0468-05U which translates into a 3000' N100. It was having a strange problem of the desktop freezing (meaning accepting no input) whenever automatic updates were enabled. This problem was solved by clearing the updates cache and running "sfc /scannow". But immediately afterwards I noticed that chkdsk would not run at startup when requested, and that when requested the system got a BSOD c0000145 Application Error on every other boot.

I've run memory diagnostics; all OK.
I,ve scanned for viruses - Avast Free, Adware Free, Malware Bytes Free - Nothing but cookies.
I've run chkdsk /r from the recovery console. - does not fix the problem.

Seems clear I have a relatively simple problem of misconfigufred startup, chkdsk, or disk boot files, and I wish to affect a non-format repair. Can anyone assist with this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was playing a game earlier today and got a blue screen. This was the first one I have had on my new computer (3 months old). I thought nothing off it and restarted my pc. I was givin the two options: Start windows normally or run startup repair. So I ran the startup repair and after a loading bar and a black screen I had gotten a blue screen with; STOP: c0000145 {Application Error} The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click ok to close the application. So I restarted my computer, ran it in every mode possible and got the same result. Then i tried running it from the windows disk to re format and got the same issue. Nothing I do can get my past this screen and have no idea what to do next, does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

Hi ghoodguy and welcome to BC.

Please try running a diagnostic hard drive test for the drive and follow it with memory test http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html
The hard drive brand has an online support available (seagate, WD, toshiba) for download and create a bootable disc and run the short/long test and see if it reports any errors. A Short test error or fail would mean you don't need to run the long test.

STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005). Click OK to terminate application. The above message is what I receive, when I run "error check". It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

I tried gettng rid of it with my so-called rescue programs like pc rescue and registry fix to no avail. Should I just ignore it and maybe it will eventually go away like other windows I got in the past that were identical but had different numbers? Thanks.

My computer has recently had this problem where it cannot continue to run normally for more that 5 minutes or so before it slows down then BSODs.

It seems to start up normally and everything works just fine for a short amount of time until applications stop responding. Sometimes the taskbar disappears and there's an error message with the title of "jusched.exe - Application Error" without the quotes. When I click ok to terminate the program I just see my wallpaper for a few seconds before it BSODs. Other times it just BSODs after applications stop responding.

The part after STOP always seems to be 0x000000F4, but I'm not sure about the rest.

I'd also like to know if I need to wait a certain amount of time before I can shut down my computer during the BSOD. It seems to say something like "initializing the disk for dumping" for quite some time.

I suppose it's all because of installed video codecs.
If you have so much different ones - try to remove all of them and install all-in-one codec.

Hi

I was trying to install ccleaner in my laptop and in the middle of the process a popup window appears saying "AXWIN Frame Window: ccsetup318.exe - Application Error". I've read in some forums that this could be a malware issue. Below are details about my laptop;

Dell Inspiron 2200
Windows XP

Also, I've also attempted to install flash player. When I double click the downloaded file, it doesn't do anything. Does not confirm if the installation was successful or not. Also, I've noticed that the installer I've recently downloaded from Adobe was automatically deleted.

Thanks!

The problem is that every time I close a window in explorer I get the following message: "The instruction at 0x01f5b80 referenced memory at 0x018ead58. the memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate the program."

I've ran Norton anti-virus, as-aware, spy bot and Windows beta anti-spyware.

A:Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

For other's info, I've managed to fix the problem.
I clicked on the tools menu of internet explorer and selected 'internet options', then 'programs'. Then clicked 'manage add ons' and selected 'add ons currently loaded in internet explorer.' Then disabled each program one at a time and tested if the problem occurred (remember that you have to close IE first and then restart.)
Turned out the source was 'solid converter pdf' (a free program from a computer mag) which translates pdf files into rtf or doc for editing.
However, this program has sat quite happily for two months so don't know why it suddenly started causing a problem.
Anyway, everything is now rosy in freddyfeet's computer garden (until next time!)

Ok mashenden lets pick up where we left off.If you are are using a CD Emulator (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) be aware that they use hidden drivers with rootkit-like techniques to hide from other applications. When dealing with a malware infection, CD Emulators can interfere with investigative tools producing misleading or inaccurate scan results, false detection of legitimate files, cause unexpected crashes, BSODs, and general 'dross' which often makes it hard to differentiate between malicious rootkits and the legitimate drivers used by CM Emulators. Since CD Emulators use a hidden driver which can be seen as a rootkit and can interfere with investigative tools or cause other problems, it is recommended that they be removed or disabled until disinfection is completed. Please download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.Double click DeFoggerexe to run the tool. The application window will appear.Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation driversClick Yes to continue.A 'Finished!' message will appear.Click OK...DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK. If not, reboot manually.Do not re-enable these drivers until instructed or your system has been cleaned.IMPORTANT! They remain on top of all other windows and, usually, if either the OK or the Cancel button is pushed a warning window appears telling me my computer will restart in a minute, which it does. Also, by unknown causes, my hard drive is filling up. There wasn't much room to begin with, but up to several Gigs will fill up seemingly without cause. Other than this, the computer seems to work fine--I can move the error window to the side and continue to use it. I don't know if these problems are caused by malware or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. Rygy

Hello all. I read a few posts about this error and have tried av scans, malware scans, etc. Cant check disk for errors...it will not finish.
I am trying to fix this for a friend.

Apparently for about a week now, after starting up, this window opens "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application error"
"The intsruction at '0x010ef7ao' referenced memory at '0x010ef7ao'. The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

If i click OK, the internet stops working, if i click CANCEL the computer shuts off.

I tried searching the internet for '0x010ef7ao' but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions, other than a reformat?

I am having a problem with the following error:

AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error, etc.
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services, Windows has closed this program. Data Execution Prevention etc.
System by NT/Authority/System DCOM Server Process, etc.

Then the PC begins to shutdown. I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.

Other symptoms earlier included not being able to do an Alt/Ctrl/Del, followed by an hourglass. In the lower right I could see that Task Manager had opened but there was no way to get it on the screen to review/stop processes. End result - a hard reboot was needed to go further.

System restores even back to the initial restore point (which was only about 4 months ago) have not been successful.

I am to the point of wanting to run combofix (I have never done this before) but the warnings seemed very clear that I should post and get help first.

Thank you in advance.

A:AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error

Using Norton, I disabled svchost and all is good (with the huge exception being I cannot get out to the Interent), but the PC is not autoshutting down or getting hung up with the hour glass and Alt/Ctrl/Del always works. Point being, it must be some rogue program that is using svchost to send info over the internet as well as rendering my PC undable to exit without a firm reboot.

Norton, Defender, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyWare have not removed this problem.

Any ideas? Can someone help me use ComboFix?

First may I say thank you, to all of you for what you do. I think this is honorable and speaks volumes of your personal character for you to take your personal time to help individuals like myself. I received a pop-up stating that I had all types of infections on my laptop. I immediately used my MALWAREbytes Antimaleware (free version) program to run a scan. Nothing detected. Then I ram my AVG (free version) Anti-Virus program and it also detected nothing. Then I ran the Spybot Search & Destroy (free version) and it also detected nothing. After seeing the pop-up of the ISO2010 repeatedly, I went to google to search for a removal method and noticed that I was being redirected. I would get the opportunity to see the appropriate links, but once I clicked on those links, I was taken to a similar site sometimes, and other times I was taken to a completely different site. However, I noticed that if I clicked on the link within google's search engine, usually about the 3rd or 4th time on the same link, I would be then connected to the appropriate site. One site did share with me how to remove the ISO2010 program by going into the files section and just deleting that file and 3-4 other files named ISO2010. That all worked fine until a day or two later I received this svchost.exe - Application Error. This error will stay on the desktop until I click on the only two options it provides you, but no matter which one you click on, it starts an automatic shut down/restart of my lap... Read more

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If it is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer and take these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007b (parameter 1, parameter 2, parameter 3, parameter 4)

I can't get into this page while installing window xp

the error occured just before this page....

Anybody know what is the problem???

A:Can't install window XP (error *** STOP: 0x0000007b)

It either doesn't like your hard drive OR simply doesn't recognize it.

Have you set up your bios for the type of hard drive you are installing?

You have to read your mobo manual and set the bios up correctly FIRST.

Alright so here is my issue. Whenever I happen to click on my control panel I receive this windows stop error 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80506A01, 0xEC451DF4, 0x00000000). It is more of an annoyance than anything, as I can startup my computer and use just about everything on it just fine until I try to access my control panel. Whenever I send the error report to microsoft, it says there is a problem caused by the antivirus software (PC tools antivirus). I tried uninstalling it, just for the sake of seeing if it would help matters, and I again received the same stop error. Upon restart the microsoft error reporting says its a corrupted error report? I'm really not quite sure what the issue is, since now I do not have that antivirus program installed on my computer. Any kind of help to lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I am rather confused.

Hello. I have an XP machine that while booting, after the Windows XP Logo with the blue bar under it shows, receives a message box titled "lsass.exe - Application Error" with the message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000ld). Click on OK to terminate the application." This occurs twice and then just sits on an empty black screen. It never reaches the login screen. I have tried booting to safe mode and the last good configuration and they both experience the same thing.

BACKGROUND: Got the computer with the problem from brother in law who lives hundreds of miles away. He had fixed it and was selling it. It was clean and in good working order except for the following: No boot disk provided. DVD & CD drives wouldn’t initialize automatically. Had to manually go find what you want to play and work with it til it played. Audio CDs would play. DVD never played dvds. Windows Media Player would not play FLV videos or MPEG4, MP4 videos, only avi. An error would come up saying there were not the correct codecs. By choice, this computer & our home does not have internet access, so I couldn’t go d/l drivers or fixes directly to computer. Using my laptop and a flash drive, I d/l GOM Player and installed it on his computer, and it would say the same thing. So I d/l codec packs using the same method. I ran Trend Micro scans on all files before putting them on the flash drive. They were either clean or cleaned. (It said this was cleaned : L... Read more

dear sir/madam,
I am stuck in package.xml bootrapper thing. Could you please provide you suggestion on it.
I have 32bit window application which has SQL Server 2008 express and .Net Framework 4.0. Application creates new SQL server 2008 Instance with "SQLInt", which is working fine on window 7 .
then i have migrated it to window 10 64bit and updates its prerequisites to SQL Server 2012 express and .Net Framework 4.6.2.
All working fine, sql server install and instance created without any issue, but facing only one issue with reinstall process.
When i run my application setup.exe file, it always download/install Pre-install component and failed because component(SQL server instance "SQLInt" already existed.
I have package.xml bootstrapp file, which has one condition. please find below

<InstallConditions>

We are getting the above error randomly on some of the laptops we have deployed. The error comes right after you boot or when the windows 7 is left running. There are no special software running. The error in details is below.
"The boot configuration Data (BCD) settings for the following boot application have changed since Bitlocker was enabled
boot appplication: \windows\system32\winload.exe
change settings: 0x26000090
You must supply a bitlocker recovery key to start this system.
Confirm that the changes to the BCD settings are trusted.

If the changes are trusted then suspend and resume bitlocker. This will reset bitlocker to use the new BCD settings.
Otherwise restore the original BCD settings"

Can anyone please explain on how to correct this error. As before this is happening on few of the machines and we are seeing more as we go. Any tips would be nice...Thanks

Title and Description pretty much says it all.I was surfing the web yesterday, when my browser (IE, 7 I think) stopped responding and I was forced to close it. When I tried to open a new browser, I was prompted to restore last session or go to home page. I chose restore, which opened a window but never fully loaded the browser, leaving me right back where I started. In the process of repeating this several times (even trying home page) and getting the same results every time, I was called away from my desk to answer a call. When I returned the screen saver had started, and would not let me back into Windows. My only option at this point was to do a forced powerdown by holding down the power button until it turned off.Now when I try to boot, after the Windows XP splash screen, the screen goes black and the following error is displayed:lsass.exe - Application ErrorThe application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. When I click on OK, it displays the same error. After I click OK again, everything stops and I'm left with the black screen and mouse pointer. My only option is a forced powerdown.I get this error with every possible Boot Option (Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, etc.). I can access the Recovery Console and have already ran CHKDSK /R.I don't know what else to do. I do not have a backup of the hard drive, ironically I was preparing to do one when this all started. A:lsass.exe Application Error, during boot of XP Home

Just opinion but...I think many of those 0xC0000005 errors are malware-related, although it's just an opinion I've formed after looking up data on so many situations with that particular error message. That error message is pretty nonspecific, it's usually up to the user to draw conclusions from a paucity of data.First thing I suggest...remove the hard drive, slave it to a clean, protected system...move valued data files from drive (after thorough series of scans using reliable, updated AV program and Malwarebytes, at a minimum). Then I would probably delete everything and just do a clean install. My reasoning...you cannot boot into XP, whatever is wrong cannot currently be pinpointed...damage control is in effect.See http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm for more data on your specific STOP error and their suggestions for dealing with it.Louis

Hello, the error that pops up after loading is related to svchost.exe - Application Error ( The instruction at 0x500bcb9a referenced memory at 0x00000000 the memory cannot be "read")

I'm pretty sure it's not a virus. I did a full system scan with Kaspersky 6.0, Ad-aware pro and spybot.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

I'm wondering if I tried reinstalling some applications it would fix this problem. I did a hijack this scan log if it helps at all.

The PC I am working on is getting non-stop application errors during boot up, shut down and while using it.

List of errors:
wuauclt.exe
isass.exe
services.exe
svchost.exe
winlogon.exe
dwwin.exe
dfragntfs.exe
userinit.exe
fxssvc.exe
explore.exe
alg.exe

Unable to boot to the safe mode, because the constant errors are preventing me to sign on to the windows.

Ran full virus scan using SAV 10 and did not find any viruses.
Ran adaware and spybot and nothing was found on the PC.
Ran windows repair install and no changes.

Ran HiJackThis and would like to have someone to review it.

Please help! I?ve got a PC with Windows XP Home edition Service Pack 1. Often (not always) when I boot up I get this error message:

"Explorer.exe- application error?
The instruction at "0x77f585c0" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

"Explorer.exe- application error?
The instruction at "0x1a416d01" referenced memory at "0xff000004". The memory could not be "read".

Or various other messages (these are just two that I?ve noted down)

It then takes anything up to 10 attempts to load the PC up, sometimes it works first time. I have been told that Windows XP edition 1 has had a lot of problems, could this be the cause? I have just received Service Pack 2 from Microsoft, but am unsure to whether it would make any difference if I installed this. Any help would be much appreciated, Many thanks.

This is someone else's PC, so some info I don't have. Anyway, it's a Dell Dimension 4300 running winxp. Reportedly someone clicked one of those "your computer has a virus" things (so it was assumed malware) and then would no longer boot.

I get it and when booting you get a stop error (0X0000008E, 0XC0000005, 0X804D92C2, 0XF97C65C4, I didn't write down last number of error), this happens if you boot normally, safe mode or last known good.

First step I tried to boot from an XP disk and it wouldn't boot (said, and I don't remember exact wording, "unable to boot from device press f1 to try again or f2 to enter setup).

Next I tried an xubuntu disk I had laying around, it booted so I assumed the other disk was bad.

Tried a second XP disk, wouldn't boot.

Tried xubuntu again, wouldn't boot.

Tried a Win2k disk I had, it booted.

Tried another XP disk, wouldn't boot.

Tried another XP disk, wouldn't boot.

I tried several more times, using both the CD burner and DVD drive. Tried unplugging one or the other. Nothing I did would get it to boot again.

Tried the CD burner in my computer, the burner worked.

Put the HDD from the Dell in my computer, booted to XP recovery console, ran chkdsk on the drive, it found no errors. I also took this opportunity to check for the pe386 service as some had reported a similar stop error because of some malware, but it didn't exist.

I plugged everything back into the Dell... Read more

I've been running Win XP Pro on an IBM laptop (T21) for the past few months. Every thing has been working great.

Today, I did a chkdsk /f from the command line as I normaly do before a defag. I rebooted the unit and chkdsk found a few index problems and fixed them.

Then Win hung on starting up (blank screen). I did a cold restart with the same thing happening.

I then when into the recovery console and did a chkdsk /r - it found no problems.

On reboot I recived the following error:

STOP: c000021a Unknown Hard Error

That's it - no file name or anything !!!!

HELP !!!!

I tried doing a repair install of Win XP with no luck - same error.

I've searched the whole net with no luck.

Any help would be great.
