envy 27s monitor and spectre x360 via usb C?

Q: envy 27s monitor and spectre x360 via usb C?

I have an HP Spectre x360 13" laptop (X7V20UA#ABA) which has 2 USB C ports and no video ports, running Windows 10. I also have an HP Envy 27S video monitor with USB C input (W5A12AA#ABA). When I plug the laptop into the monitor (using the USB-C cable included with the monitor) the laptop charges, but it never detects the monitor as an additional display. if I open the Display Settings and click "detect" it says "didn't detect another display". I installed the driver from the HP Support website but that did not make a difference. The "HP My Display" app that got installed with the drivers shows that I have a second display "HP ENVY 27 (6CM7xxxxxx)" indicating that it can communicate enough to get the serial number of my display. How do I proceed? Will these products even work together?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

A:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

I Just want to let you guys all know that the new x360 Envy's and Spectre's have no pen support whatsoever. Previous models had a active digitizer. The latest line does not nor does it support any fine tip pen. Deceptive advertising from HP considering they had Ads up of the laptops next to their active pen. Infact as of now the Envy and Spectre webpage still recommend this uncompatible pen. Today is a new day, I finally figured out a very odd situation. I have Purchased last year a Nice HP Sceptre 360, 8GB, with 120SSD Drive, partnered with a new HP Envy 32 2K Video Monitor (connected by a HDMI cable). Several months ago the display would have horizontal lines, shrink and go blank (audio also cut out at same time). After some time on the phone with HP Warranty support it was determined to be the HP Monitor, I received a 90 day repaired unit and sent my original in. So far so good one would think, well 9 days after the 90 day warranty expired, (BAM) same exact problem. Well now that the Warranty is over I did some of my own troubleshooting. I recall issues of another computer I repaired having USB and SD card problems, seemed that one had power issue on the USB / SD card power supply, so brain storming I thought I would remove my permanently installed SanDisK 64GB Extreme Pro SD Card (thinking that the Scepter may have common power to support the HDMI port, & SD Card). Long story short, I removed the SD card (no more problems with the display). I did a trial of several other cards including 32GB, 128GB etc, all cause the same issue when the SD card was installed and the SD card files were accessed. Has anyone else found this to be a problem? I am going to try another way to use my SD card I?ll get a SD Card to USB reader and try that avenue. I?ll let you know how that works out. For history sake, I have had my own electr... Read more

I just got a new Envy x360 (core i7, with Intel graphics), and I'm trying to connect it to my ZR30w monitor.  I've tried connecting via a HDMI->DVI-D cable, via a USB3 DisplayLink dock (again, via HDMI), and finally via a "gofanco" active HDMI->DisplayPort adapter (then to the DisplayPort on the monitor).  In all these cases, I'm able to successfully connect to the monitor, but I can only get 1280x800 resolution max on it.  I know the laptop's HDMI port is capable of higher resolution, as I connected it to a 4k TV, and got 3840x2160 resolution as expected.  I also know that hooking both the DisplayPort and DVI-D ports to older computers gets me the expected 2560x1600 resolution on the ZR30.  Any ideas what is wrong here?

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

A:Re: Spectre X360 Extremely hot

My Spectre was heating up during idle. I use RealTemp to monitor temperature and set alarm for 180F. It was hard to catch the culprit, because it stopped as soon as I moved the mouse or keyboard to check.  I finally used Process Monitor to track CPU during idle and discovered that it was Norton 360 which does aggressive system checking during idle. I like Norton and the way it checks and rates download executable files. Setting lower priority for Norton doesn't do anything and I don't really want to do that anyway. And I don't want to inhibit the system checking. So, now I leave my Spectre on my homemade vacuum pad during idle to solve that problem. *sigh* I need a way to throttle back aggressive programs as a function of temperature.

Without any signs to indicate any mechanical problems, the whole system just shut down. i couldn't switch it on, nor could i even charge it. So i have called up the service centre, and since it is still under warranty, they have replaced the motherboard. On the bright side, I did not lose any datas or files. However, I have discovered my case wasn't the first to happen as there was one earlier case which was much severe. The laptop's motherboard literally burnt. The bottom part was all black and all data was lost  . The following image was the default in my product that has occured recently.   Hope to receive advise and any precautionary steps to avoid this mishap. Thanks.

I am wanting to buy a spare charger for my HP Spectre X360 2 in 1 AC002na but cannot tell from looking at the original the part number or specification I need. The writing is too small and light for my eyes. My laptop was purchased new a few weeks ago so is the latest model. I have looked in the HP spares shop and cannot determine which one is appropriate. Kindly point me to the correct item. As an alternative would it be OK to use a USB-c male to USB-c male cable plugged into a third party wall socket with a USB-C female connector? Thanks for any help Regards Sherman39

No it will not charge from a wall socket like a cell phone.  These are the proper power supplies: 65-W adapter, USB Type-C, nPFC, 3 pin 860209-85045-W adapter, USB Type-C, nPFC, 3 pin 860210-850 Are you in the UK?  https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Adapter-Retail-V5Y26ET-ABB/dp/B01FUC0IJ0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1493467524&sr=8-6&keywords=HP+USB-C+45w If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

So I just  bought myself a Spectre x360 (13 inch, 8gb ram, 256 gb ssd, i5- 7200) a few days ago. Now the problem is that it makes an annoying electric like buzzing noise all the time. Watching a youtube video, scrolling a website or moving the mouse over any website, app or anything like that triggers it really.  From the research I did I believe it's coal whine. I found a few other with similar problems. For example: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Spectre-x360-Noise/td-p/5107394 Found this solution but it can't be applied anymore since we can't acces the cpu c4 function in the BIOS http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00965412 This noise is what I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIrkcDZn1G8 Anyhow, is this annyoing noise a case for every HP notebook, every x360? Or just a few?

I have an HP Spectre x360 Convertible with Product Number K8P19LA#ABM. I want to use it as a drawing and sketching tool. I have read several reviews from other x360 owners and decided that my best option was to buy a Dell Active Pen PN556W to use. Similar qualities as the HP Active Pen (which are not sold on my country) but with better reviews. I have had no opportunity to use my pen, as it is not recognized in any way by the screen.I have also installed the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 with better Pen Support and it still doesn't recognizes my pen. My configuration is:Windows 10 ProPen and Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

Hi,  Is Dell stylus support HP machines mentioned on its specs ? You are asking HP to support another vendor's product here. From my view: No HP won't support other vendor's products unless HP does not have equivalent products.Dell may be very happy for HP (or other competitors) to support its products, it will sell more and laughing to the bank.Regards.

I have a Spectre x360 notebook that is soon two years old. It hasn't been used a lot, but recently I have taken it into active use again. I'm experiencing unexpected shutdowns, and it seems to be running hot. I have noticed a slight burning or plastic melting smell just now while it is charging. This seems to be the same problem as https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Spectre-X360-motherboard-bu..., only they have had hardware actually burn. What can I do to fix this problem before the notebook dies completely?

A:HP Spectre x360 running hot

You should be able to hear the fan running and if it's hot and the fan is not running, you should turn it off and get it serviced. You don't want to fry the cpu.

Hello all,I seem to be having the same problem as all of you. Bought the spectre in Aug. 2015 right before heading to college. It worked fine for the last year and a half until tonight where I was working on homework, got up for less than 5 minutes, and came back to an unresponsive laptop. Can anyone catch me up on what is going on and how I should go about fixing this issue.Thanks,-Kenny
