Video Output over Display Port works on Lenovo Thinkcentre M92p but not on M93p.

Q: Video Output over Display Port works on Lenovo Thinkcentre M92p but not on M93p.

I have been using a Display Port to HDMI Cable with my M92p for a long time now to connect to my 2 Philips Monitors. I now wanted to connect my M93p the same way and I'm now struggling to do so. I just cant get a signal out through Display Port no matter what I do neither in Bios nor on Windows. And on the PC side, my Monitors are not recognized at all. As my setup works with the M92p, the cable and Monitor are OK I guess. Why does M93p fail? Apart from VGA, the Display Ports are the only other Option. I read that M92p has DIsplay Port Version 1.1. and M93p Version 1.2: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M93P-Displayport-1-1-or-1-2/td-p/2174499 But I also read that Cable wise this schouldn't make any difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Overview WHats the problem here? WHy is Display Port Output not working on M93p while it does work on M92p?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I've been considering buying a new GPU for my SFF M92p.I currently have 1GB 620 GT nvidia GPU & I would like to upgrade to a 2GB GPU.  i7-3770 Cpu 3.4GHzWindows 1016GB DDR3 RAM1T HDPSU - 240 Watt I need professional assistance on : - Can i find 2GB GPU to use on this current system @ 240 ?- If not, would i need to change my PSU ? And where do i buy such a unit ? What's it called ? [It's for gaming]

The GTX 750 Ti could work with a SFF M92p.   Upgrade to the latest BIOS beforehand, CD ISO method is most reliable.   Check that there aren't any taller heatsinks on the motherboard that could interfere with the graphics card (refer to photos of the card.)

Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply.

I can confirm that this MSI brand low-profile  GTX 750 Ti 2GB  card works perfectly in my M93p SFF machine without upgrading the PSU:   MSI N750-Ti-2GD5TLP

Measuring the power draw running Prime95 (CPU benchmark) , FurMark (GPU benchmark) , charging mobile phone via USB and copying large files at the same time , it stays below 190W.   Have been running this for several hours. I have also been playing Fallout 4 (FullHD, ultra textures, 60 FPS) for 100 hours without any problems.   As the case is quite compact, I was worried about the temperature but it stays below 80C for the GPU at full power over extended periods of time (about 25C ambient temp in the room).

Installation is ok. Just mount the low profile bracket and move the PCIe 1x WiFi card (if you have one) into another slot.  Preferably le... Read more

Hi we use with great pleasure the Lenovo m93p as server in a our environment. They would like a charm. recently we faced a situtation and e wanted the servers to turn on at a specific time.  We went into BIOS and set the time to turn on the PVC.  We expected that the PC could be turned on manually. It will not turn on at all.  We took off the CMOS battery to see if it would reset the BIOS settings: Nothing ! The the PC will not turn on... Also no Lenovo screen , nothing  We must also say that we increased the video memory to 1024 MB AND set up the start time. These settings were saved since then the PC would not turn on.... Would appreciate anything that could help in having the pC turn on or resetting the BIOS to default ... Thanks in advance We need to perform somthing alittle more complex .. Will ask after solving this pesky problem Zeprez

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre m93p Tiny won't turn on

I had exactly this problem. After replacing the hard drive, the M93p Tiny would not power on when the power button was pressed. No LED came on and the fan did not spin up. I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked. Finally I took out the CMOS battery for a while and then put it back in again. That did the trick and the computer started. Strangely enough, the BIOS was NOT reset, my custom settings and BIOS password were preserved (!). The computer now works normally again... Jiri.

Is there any specific place where i should take a look inside laptop to figure out if my laptop is still repairable? If not, would it be possible to change motherboard? Hi daproof,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may need to replace the LCD panel.

You can check on the hardware manual (here on page 63) if you have the tools and skills to change it. You can get the LCD OEM part number here to check online or on service parts center to purchase.

Here is the article guide that can also help.
How to Look Up and Purchase Accessories, Upgrades, and FRU/CRU Replacement Parts

At this point, it is likely a failed lcd backlight as image still is visible onscreen when illuminated but you can try to reseat cables first and check areas you can clean but setting expectation for LCD panel replacement.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Hello, I'm thinking of upgrading a M93p I recently picked and still waiting for delivery. It comes with a i7-4770 3.4GHZ cpu, 16GB RAM,  500 HDD and Windows 10 installed. The video adapter installed is a nvidia fx1700, the seller said he thought the memory for the video adapter is 1GB however all the nvidia fx1700s I've seen only have 500MB. I need to edit large image and video files taken with a Nikon DSLR and wondering if 500MB of video and an older video card such as the nvidia fx1700 is going to be enough to edit fairly large image and video files.  In the past I haven't normally played games only flight similator such those produced by Lockheed and Boeing. I recently started looking at various video cards, such as the NVidia GTX 1050, Radeon HD 7670, nVIDIA GeForce GT730, etc. however specifications shows min system PSU requirement is 300 watts. Some are PCI-E 2.0 x16 while others are PCI-E 3.0 x16 M93p PSU specifications    240W 92plus Single output    240W 85plus Single output To upgrade to many of these video adapters designed for gaming would require a PSU upgrade as well

Hi everyone. I am in the process of deploying a new sccm environment with W10, we have a bunch of different Lenovo clients but this model is the only one that is causing me issues. The problem is the Lenovo Application Interface driver wich refuses to work, the key here is that we are using Microsoft Baseline Security, wich denies drivers that are not WHQL signed to be used. I have tried both the 1.0.0.8 and 1.0.0.9 driver for the Application Interface, but both returns Code 39 and does not work. If i deactivate MS Baseline Security both drivers work, but i don't have that option on the environment. I have tried importing them in SCCM and run the extracted exe as a package, with no result. In short, does a WHQL driver exist for this interface?

Hello. I recently bought a used Lenovo M92p. It booted just fine and recognized my GPU with no issues, but the BIOS had a password so I had to reset the CMOS. After that it booted to bios but my display remained black. I tried plugging it to motherboards display port but still no image. So I tried unplugging everything and booting with one ram stick and it booted to bios. After putting it back I understood that the issue was GPU. As soon as I plugged in the GPU it won't display anything. I tested it on another PC and the GPU was fine(it's a Quadro 2000D if it helps) so I tried my other spare GPU's including GT 210 but the same result. So I ignored the need for GPU and tried booting it without. All of my installation USB's ended up with winload.exe and winload.efierrors(tried to boot both UEFI and Legacy) and all of my DVD's just got stuck at Windows logo and wouldn't even display the loading circle or any error message. I am stuck. I tried to download multiple ISO's from multiple sources with no luck. I have heard that Lenovo motherboards come with some sort of security stuff that can prevent it from booting but I have no clue what it is and how it works. Please help since I have ran out of ideas. Thanks

Problem solved toay,You need to open your machine. Find the cmos clear jumpers.Move the little cup from positions 1-2 to 2-3. Unplug Hard Disk. Close the machine. Insert a portable USB DVD to a usb port (have a copy of the new bios on the cd) and turn on your machine. It will boot from USB DVD drive and it will load the new bios. Machine will shut down after the new bios update. Open agin the machine, plug the Hard Disk and put back the jumpers to 1-2 position. Unplug USB DVD and it will boot from Hard Disk. That's all. IN OTHER WORDS: Bios update can be done if first you change the jumpers on motherboard.

A:m93p no video output

OK I solved it myself...Get the CD version of the BIOS flash update.Follow the instructions to do the flash update (including moving jumpers around on the motherboard)On first boot after the update, set the video IGD and do not forget to enable multiple monitors. Then both the on board card and the lame GT620 cards will work. The intel 4600 graphics are much better than the GT620.Install the drivers for the interl 4600 on board graphics. A bit scary but with gentle handling it will work. P.S. I cant believe the setup will let you screw up like that with no graphics output available...well it ended well.

Hi,yesterday I updated new BIOS 9SKT99A to ThinkCentre M92p (motherboard is7xm rev. 1.0). BIOS is taken from the official website of Lenovo. The update was made using the program "Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system version)" - 9sjy99usa.exe from Windows 7 Pro x64.Now after BIOS update is PC constant reboot. The last picture before rebooting: FW status recovery error. This message hangs 0.5 seconds on the built-in video card, or 2-3 seconds on the external video card (in my case, the NVIDIA GT 730). Only thing I can do is access BIOS setting or choose boot device thru F12 or F1.I did:F9 (reset to default) and CMOS reset - no change, Boot mode UEFI or LEGACY - no change, Boot device (USB/DVD of W7, W8, W10, network boot) - no change, Disconnecting all boot devices - nochange.I need help.Thanks,Dmitriy.

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p. After updating the BIOS from 06/30/2017, the system restarts constantly.

Burn a CD with the BIOS ISO, and follow the procedure for recovering from a failed BIOS update in the HMM.   If unsuccessful, do the same with the previous version of BIOS, which is at the very bottom of your system's BIOS download page.

Edit:  try the older version first, if that works, then do a regular CD ISO update to the latest.

Hello, the weirdest thing has happened. I've read all kinds of posts of the nVidia GT 1030 card being compatible with fairly recent ThinkCentres, but after 2 hours of exhausting attempts I still could not start my M92P SFF desktop with a GT 1030. A few years back the excruciatingly slow stock HDD was replaced with an Intel 535 Series 480 GB SSD, and the first thing I saw after installing the GT 1030 video card was the message 'Operating system not found'. The SSD disappeared from BIOS. Removed the GT 1030 and everything is fine. Checked that the SSDs BIOS was of the latest version, updated the PC's BIOS, found out that it was booting in legacy non-UEFI mode. Converted the system drive to GPT, switched to UEFI booting and everything worked without the video card. I was sure the problem was UEFI-related, because even without the GT 1030, prior to switching to GPT, when attempting boot in UEFI mode, I was getting exactly the same message 'No operating system found', the BIOS did non detect the SSD. Having done all this, I plug in the GT 1030 and bam! Same crap. The BIOS does not see the SSD! But why? More this time, not only it did not detect the now GPT SSD, but a couple of seconds after powering up the M92P would not turn on at all, no matter how many times I pressed/for how long held the power button. It was making some sound from the speaker though, as if it was trying to power up, but couldn't, it was not an error beep. So I had to remove the GT 1030 once again an... Read more

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. I remember that some oem pc systems had key combination for hidden bios settings, does someone know of such a combination to enable hidden settings for my device, or any other way to turn of the annoying beep sounds?I also replaced the stock PSU  with a Be!Quiet! TFX Power 2 300W Gold + 24 to 14 adapter right after I updated the bios. Bould the first beep on start be because of the new PSU? But how would the System know its not the stock PSU? I... Read more

Hi, I just purchased an M92p Tiny for playing around a little bit with it, because I like the form factor.I got the pretty maxed out spec machine (i5 CPU, 8gb RAM, I put in my 500gb Samsung SSD, 2 x Display Ports, 1 VGA, I added a brand new mPCIe WiFi/Bluetooth card, ...).I installed Windows 10 Pro and XUbuntu as dualboot via UEFI and it works fine.By the way I also upgraded the machine with the latest BIOS firmware from the Lenovo support page. What bothers me:- I configured in BIOS a slower Lenvo splashscreen, but still it passes by pretty fast <2-3 seconds I believe -- but ok, I can live with that, but would like to see a bit more relevant and interesting information than just a splashscreen- I can ONLY see the boot splashscreen and F1 BIOS setup and F12 boot device prompt via VGA port (I played around with the configuration in BIOS auto/IGP without any effects - and multi-monitor option doesn't exist as stated in some other posts)- Once boot procedure is done, and the OS is switching graphics mode (Win10 or Xubuntu login screen in Xorg) then it switches to DisplayPort. How can I enforce the usage of the Display Port all the time from the beginning? I don't want to use the VGA port at all, but I want to have the option to see the F12 boot device prompt and maybe go to the BIOS setup via DisplayPort from time to time. Hope you guys can help me, thanks in advance!!!

Hi,

I have a new M92p Tiny (2121A4U) that was purchased to take advantage of the 3 native independent displays.  Additionally the DisplayPort to Dual-DisplayPort Adapter (0B47092) was purchased to facilitate this as I was told that is what i needed.

So far, I can get either cloned or stretched desktop on the two DP monitors, but NOT extended/independent displays.  I called Lenovo Support and after walking them through their own product and what their marketing department is saying exists, was told that the Intel HD 2500 card doesn't work for this.  According to the PSREF (pg 161), this DOES work.

One would think it'd be simple, but so far . .  nothing.  I've updated all drivers and BIOS, downloaded and installed the Mosaic driver and such, but still . . . no change.

So, does this work? Or not?  And if so, how do you go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

I have a Thinkcentre M73 running Windows 10. It has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 graphics card connected to a ViewSonic VA2349 monitor. Since I have had this computer I have had the monitor connected via the VGA port. But since my monitor has a DVI-D port I decided to get a display port to DVI-D cable and try that out. But after I connected that cable I could not get my monitor to recognize it. The monitor has a button that allows toggling between D-Sub and DVI. But when I try to switvh to DVI the screen goes black for a second and then returns to D-Sub. I have tried connecting the display port to DVI-D cable only but it doesn't work. It also doesn't work when having both cables connected. I went into the BIOS to see if there was a setting to enable DVI but there didn't seem to be. I also checked my graphics card preferences and Windows display settings but I couldn't find anything there either.  I am at a loss. I don't think the cable is defective. I just bought it. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I suspect it's something simple that I am missing. Thanks.

Has anyone tried playing around with a SATA card and M.2 addon? If so, what did you use and is it worth the cost? I understand due to MY 10a8 mobo and its Q87 chipset, it wouldn't work as a boot drive, however, I am interested in others experiences.

Hello, I have a  M93p Thinkcentre that I need to upgrade the PSU for a video adapter, haven't been able to decide what the M93p needs and what will fit. I don't want to order a PSU and not have it fit the M93p Mini Tower case. I've been looking at various Seasonic PSUs as well as a few other brands.  The currently installed PSU is a PS-4281-2 280W Liteon with dimensions approx. a little under ~6 inches tall x very close to 5.5 inches wide x ~3.5 inches deep. The fan is pointing outwards from the rear the the case. Many of the PSUs have the fan on the interior from side of the of the PSU. So I'm not certain if it makes a difference whether the PSU is pushing or pulling the air from the case which has one fan but will eventually have two fans plus the cpu and psu fan. The K4000 video card uses a pci-e 6-pin (3+3) plug for PSU power. Also the motherboard uses a 14-pin connector for power from the PSU along 3 x 4-pin power connectors. It appears the PSU first supplies 2 x 4-pin sata pwr connections to the mother board then the cable extend over to power  the sata drives. I'm uncertain what the 3rd 4-pin connection to the mb is used for. I've come across  various PSU's with different dimensions and almost purchased one but am wondering if their too large and the maximum size PSU the M93p is able to accommodate.  I've found several PSUs, some from eBay others from online stores. most are new or pulled from new PC's that wer... Hello everyone, I've seen a few threads about similar issues, but here goes: I recently purchased a Thinkcentre m93p from the Lenovo Outlet for a very good price. I used to work with desktops and graphics cards but had switched to laptops for maybe 10 years or so. It seems that the landscape has changed quite a bit with manufacturers whitelisting parts and putting in proprietary power supplies and other complete nonsense.  I am hoping to do a few things with my new desktop in particular: install an SSD and more memory, upgrade the power supply, and upgrade the graphics card. I am comfortable installing the memory and I think I can figure out the SSD. My questions really have to do with the power supply and graphics card. I'd like to install an ATX power supply because I can't seem to find any TFX power supplies that have sufficient wattage and a pci-e 6-pin connector. I know some others have done this, and that it requires a 24-pin to 14-pin connector (which I've ordered). Does the ATX supply fit in the case? Or does it require modification? Or does it need to sit outside the case? As for graphics cards, I've ordered this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8905320 I think it can run off the 280-watt power supply included, but now I'm concerned that it might be too big for the tower case and/or not on Lenovo's whitelist. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Is there a way to get around th... Read more

A:Thinkcentre M93p Upgrades

I run a Gigabyte 750 Ti in my M91p tower with an upgraded ATX power supply (which fits in the case provided they aren't too long, and works with the converter [M92 and later] - best to get a semi-modular supply as there's limited room in the case for unused cables.)   The Gigabyte looks quite a bit shorter than the one you ordered, check the specs.

I also added the front fan (easy to do on the M93 - download and refer to the Hardware Maintenance manual - a standard 92mm fan with rubber mounts will work) and ventilated PCI slot covers at the back to help dissipate heat from the graphics card. Check the readme file for the Nvidia driver on the Lenovo website for this system for the list of supported cards.   And no, there isn't a way around the white list, otherwise it wouldn't be a white list.

Hi there,I recently got a ThinkCentre M92p (model 3227K75) with a CPU i5-3470 (3.2Ghz), 32Gb of RAM, large SSD and an nVidia GeForce GT1030.I have seen lot's of not up to dated forum regarding the upgrade options for this computer so I hope you don't mind if I make this question again: what's the best upgrade I can do, with appreciable result, for CPU and GPU? Other question: can I go for 64Gb of RAM? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!Gennaro

I got a refurb M92P with (according to the specs) an 80 watt PS (?). To upgrade I thought I'd at least try the Lenovo 240 watt (since the footprint is identical). Anyway, got it, hooked up the 24 to 14 pin adapter cable, and plugged it in. The unit wouldn't boot, kept turning on/off every couple seconds, so I shut it down and replaced the original PS. Anyone heard of that happening? It seems odd that I read of other people hooking up 3rd party PSs with the adapter cable with no problem, yet a Lenovo  made PS does this? Also, I'd hate to buy a 3rd party PS and experience the same thing. At least with the Lenovo PS the vendor accepts returns. Any insights appreciated.

I tried updating the BIOS on my M92p tiny and now I don't see the bios screen or any output. I have tried the BIOS recovery steps in the manual:- The system doesn't beep after a few minutes with a USB BIOS recovery key (tested and usb is bootable on another pc)- The system turns on but doesn't show any output or errors- I burned a BIOS CD but when plugging the CD drive into the internal sata + sata power it doesn't get powered- I tried the CD drive while being powered from another pc and then plugging the sata in - didn't do anything- The system will ramp up the fan for a split second and then the fan slows down and the system stays on- Sometimes the system will reboot a few times and then go off completely. - Taking the RAM out gives the RAM error beep code- The CPU gets hot so it must be powered at least?- I left the CMOS battery out overnight I have a vga cable plugged in, it's possible that it's outputting on the displayport so I'm not seeing anything but I find that very unlikely? Anything I've missed or could try? If not, any idea how much a replacement motherboard is?  Cheers

I'm sure there is a storage limitation, but not as nearly as low as 1 TB.  (And it maybe more a function of the OS.)
