I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.

I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).

I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... I was typing a word document yesterday and a security message came up from Kaspersky (the internet security I use) with 3 options. I didn't take much notice and just clicked on the 3rd option which then blocked what I was doing and closed the document down. When I tried to re-open the document I was getting the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item".

Now when I try to click on the word icon or try to open any saved word document I get the same message.

I did a search on google with the error message and tried to access word by first disabling my Kaspersky. I was able to access word no problem with my security disabled, so presumably this is where the problem lies.

Can anyone help as I don't know what I can do to be able to access word with my security enabled.

Thanks

I have windows xp on this laptop and microsoft word 2007. I don't think I have ever been able to open word, but I am not for sure as I have had just recently the need to use it. Every time I try to open something up, I get an error saying there is not enough memory or disk space to open. From what I looked up and tried to do on my own, I think it has something to do with the compatibility pack for the 2007 office. I deleted it, but it still won't open any word documents. I even received the message "this patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package.
I don't know what to do to fix this, I need this program so bad, I am taking online college courses and must use this program. Please if anyone can help me I would be so gracious. This site has helped me previous times, I love what you all do for people like us. Thanks so much!!

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Does Vista Microsoft Word Support Old Format Microsoft Word?

I'm assuming you're talking about the new office 2007? meaning word 2007?

If that is the case, then yes it does run older versions of word. In the sense that if you have a word document that was made and saved in Word 2003 it would work in 2007.

Just like when you make something in word 2007 you are able to save it as a Word 03-07 document so it works on both versions of Microsoft Word.

Okay, so you know my system details: I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop with Vista Home Premium 64-bit on it and McAfee Security Center. Now the problem,

When I first got my laptop and installed Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 on it, Word worked more or less fine. One thing that was kinda weird from the beginning was the fact that sometimes and error message dialog box would pop up when I would double-click a word document to open that said something to the effect of "can not find file" on it. I found that if I already had Microsoft Word open, that the word document would immediately open on the first double-click.

Now Microsoft Word won't allow me to open any word documents. I have tried double clicking them, Ctrl+O, and even selecting Open after pressing the Office button- but nothing will work. Every time I try to open a word document, Microsoft Word freezes. Strangely enough, I just discovered that I can open documents that are in the recently open documents that pop up whenever you place the cursor over the Open selection in the Office button- but other than that nada.

I have run diagnostics (no errors were found), done a repair to no avail. When I reinstalled Office, it basically returned to the original problem of just not opening documents by double-clicking. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is this a problem with Office 2007 not being completely compatible with x64? Is there some upgrade to fix this?

I've tried opening new documents and old ones- either way, I just get the little rectangle with the logo and then a white screen with a blue header reading "Microsoft Word". The logo screen is still partially visible; it appears to the side of the white window.

No matter how long I leave it, the document never fully loads. When I try to x out of it, I get an error message saying "Microsoft Word is not responding", with the option to "End Now" or "Cancel". I've tried restarting my computer, but no dice.

I have a Presario 2100 laptop with Windows XP Home Edition installed on it. Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Microsoft Word won't open properly?

The very first thing I do when Word or any word processing package plays up is to delete the template file. Delete normal.doc or normal.docx(2007)

When Word reopens it will recreate the normal file. Sometimes corrupt template files will cause the app to fall over.

To find the template you may need to do a search

1. Click on Start>Search>All Files & Folders and type normal.dot
into the "Name or Partial Name:" field. (Typing normal.dot
will also find normal.dotm in Word 2007).

2. Next click on Advanced Options and be sure that Search
System Folders and Search Subfolders are checked, along
with Search Hidden Files & Folders.

3. Also, the "Look In:" field should be set to your main hard drive
(usually Local Disk C rather than to an individual folder,
such as "My Documents."

It seems to me (but I might be mistaken on this) that there is a Microsoft program that will let you open and view a Word or Excel document without having to purchase the Microsoft software. It's not an app that you can edit a document or write a new Word document or Excel document but you can just open them to view them only. Sometimes I get a Word doc or Excel doc and can't open it because I don't have the Microsoft programs installed and I simply can't afford them. Anyone heard of such a thing? If so, please advise where I could download this at or the name of this app. It's been years ago but I think I downloaded it on an old computer (I think - if my memory serves me right - and it doesn't always) which I no longer have (the computer that is)

Any help would be appreciate.

Microsoft's Office Viewers were retired in April of this year.

Google Docs lets users open Excel, PowerPoint and Word files in an Office Compatibility Mode (OCM), then save the results as Sheets, Slides or Docs files, respectively, and Office files can be converted to Google's formats from Google Drive.

A Chrome add-on, Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides, simplifies this further by opening dragged-to-the-browser Office files in the pertinent Google online application.

The open-source OpenOffice and LibreOffice can also open Microsoft Office-formatted files.

Here is the thing: At my work, we have a shared document with a number of documents that about 15 people have to access. If one person is in the document, a message comes up that it is being used by another user and to press ok if we would like to make a copy. After hitting ok, the copy comes up. This does not result in a copy of the actual document after we close out.
To my point, recently, a number of PCs were upgraded. They are no longer able to make copies or to Read Only documents.
Tech support has been called a number of times, but they are not making any progress.
Does anyone have any ideas????

Beginning a few days ago, my computer will only open Microsoft Word in the safe mode. I have a Dell computer and operate Windows XP, Office Student/Teacher Edition 2003. When I try to open word I get the following message:

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applicationsupport team for more information."

When I close that window it then asks if I want to open in safe mode and does so. How can I get the system to open correctlyu as it used to? I tried restoring the computer to an earlier date...no luck. Two months ago I switched from my old dial up ISP to a satellite service. Since I was no longer protected from viruses etc by the provider, I installed Window Live OneCare. Is it possible there is a firewall or spam filter etc causing the problem? I've looked but don't see anything obvious.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Problem 1: When I try to open Word documents, Word will open but then tell me "The file <blah> is not available." I can still open the documents using other applications, such as Microsoft Works, so I know it's not a problem with the file.

Problem 2: When I click the lovely X to close Microsoft Word, I get a popup that says "The file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" It doesn't matter if I click Yes, No, or Cancel, it then opens the "Save As" window, with the folder being "Templates." So I hit cancel and then I get another popup that says "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changes?" I hit No (I've also tried Yes) and it finally closes. And then I cry myself to sleep.

Any suggestions at all? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office, but that doesn't fix it. Thanks for reading all this.

I have assigned a keyboard shortcut to Microsoft Word 2007. When I press those keys, Microsoft Word 2007 takes a while to open. If I close the program and press those same shortcut keys, Word opens up instantly. However, if I don't open word again for several minutes it takes some time to open just as it did when I first opened it. I haven't timed it to see at what point this occurs, but I did notice it after 20 minutes or so.

I am assuming that something stays in memory / running for a while (and this is independent of the fact that I already have multiple documents already open), which is why Word opens up again instantly. It is indeed instant and I am very happy with that speed, but I want it to happen every single time.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this can be done?

Note: This is being done on a Windows 8 Computer.

A:Solved: open office/microsoft word

You got it save it as a Word Document in Open Office. If you opened it and then resaved it in Open Office it may have saved it as an Open Office file type instead of a Microsoft Word File Type. I know there is a way to make Open Office to default to saving as a Word Document. Just look thru the settings. So your first step to investigate is too see what file type OpenOffice is saving as by default.
