I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:American Megatrends

This means that the hard drive is about to fail. S.M.A.R.T is a utility that monitors the health of the hard drive and reports any potential problems, like an early warning system. When it says "S.M.A.R.T Status Bad" This is not a good thing. Does it give you an option to bypass and get to Windows? If so backup your important data.

The support page for that model indicates it came with Windows 8.1, which means it should also have UEFI BIOS.  Depending on the way the Ubuntu Live was added to the flash drive, it might not be done correctly.  See this page on Ubuntu and UEFI BIOS.  BTW: it needs to be a 64bit installhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

System wil shut down in 15 seconds!!!

A:American Megatrends message unknown

OK, you are running the system overclocked. Not too much however it shows both ram and cpu running faster than normal. It is probably the board failing however the very first thing I would do would be to return ALL settings to stock. Clear RTC [cmos] to return settings to stock. Once you clean RTC, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical. Now disconnect any usb device ie printer, scanner, external drive, etc.

Pw ON and see if the board will successfully complete POST.

Remember there is NO safe overclock. All overclocking entails some degree of risk.

My Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe doesn't like my new 4GB of 800MHz ram. The ram is fine. XP 32 bit runs fine with only 2-3 GB in use, but Vista Ultimate 64-Bit is terrible, running at least 5 times slower and maxing out the processor and freezing a couple of minutes just to open Fire Fox. I am considering buying a new mobo, but I heard there is another way.

Some people have gone into their BIOS and enabled an option called "Memory Remapping," which fixed the problem. The catch is: My BIOS doesn't have that option for some odd reason... Surprise, surprise after my cellphone provider had to send 2 SIM cards to me for the phone to work and my External Backup HD had failed just a couple of months after I bought it(Goodbye 100+ Gigabytes of data).

I checked the manual that went with my mobo, and the bios version in the manual and on my computer were EXACTLY the same! Though, the menu in the Manual had many more options than did the one on my computer. So, I go to Asus's website and download the latest official (not beta) driver. Then, I pop in the Asus CD that came with my mobo and tried to run "Asus Update". Every time I run this I get an error message: "Unable to create NT driver... Read more

I then turned it on the next time and got American Megatrends, as shown in the image. I went to BIOS as it said and then saved and exited without changing anything. I then hoped it was fixed and turned it on again, to find it went back to turning itself on and off every 10 seconds. Then I did the same thing of turning it off and got back into the cycle with the American Megatrends screen...

Ok, so before you reply, please make note that I didn't build this pc myself, it was custom built in a company by order. I don't know a thing about inside of computer. Of course, I know the main parts, but repairing or tinkering, nooo.

Pc specs:
Intel i5-2400 3.1 Ghz Quad Core
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 550ti Graphics Card.

The thing is, in my opinion, this pc is properly cooled and built, because I've been having it for almost a year and I've never had this problem before.

So okay, I got back home and turned on my pc. And I noticed a problem. My video was slow. Videos on youtube were slow and choppy, I tried like moving windows and their movement was slow. At first I thought its a video card or monitor problem and I tried rebooting my pc. When I pressed restart, before booting windows, the computer shows the window:
American Megatrends

(Computer info)

CPU over temperature error!
Press F1 to continue setup.
Is it really overheated? Because I've never had this problem before, I didn't had it the other day I was using it and I'm using it a lot. What to do? I really can't just open up the case and see the problem, I'm not that experienced.

A:American Megatrends - CPU Over Temperature ERROR

Why can't it be overheating? Things do break, or come loose, and they can get dirty too.

Download HW Monitor and see what the CPU/Core temps are, for that matter check all the temps. Best would be to post a screen shot of HW Monitor.

HW Monitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

If the computer is truly overheating then it will need to be opened up to see why.

Hello, experts!
For the past few weeks, I've been seeing the AMI screen everytime I turn on my computer. It wasn't like that before, so I have no clue why it's showing up now. I pressed f1 and f2 numerous times and went through every session, still I cannot find the problem of why it keeps appearing during startup.

Since I just received a new computer this April, I'm not very familiar with the new AMI then I was with Windows XP. Instead, I used screen-shot to show my AMI screen. I hope this will help!

A friend of mine came to me with this problem. He has an American Megatrends motherboard and can't get it to boot past the Checking NV RAM.. part

here is what is on the screen when it freezes
American Megatrends
AMIBIOS
TYAN TSUNAMI AT V2.00.01 012520001800
Intel 440BX AGPset

P II, 400Mhz
Checking NVRam..

then down at the bottom of the screen it says
62-0101-00999-0010111-071595-440BX/GX-51830001-5

What we have done:
Switched PCI video card to another PCI slot
Disconnected everything but the floppy/cd/harddrive
Reseated the RAM, switched RAM slots, and tried different RAM modules with ones that are known to work.

He says 1 time it made it past checking NVRam (where it counts the RAM) and then froze when it first said hit del to enter BIOS.

Edit: He also remembered that when he first booted he had 3 RAM modules in and all it would say is American Megatrends with the logo and that was it, so he removed 2 and left 1 and thats where we are now.

2nd Edit: When I asked him what happens when he tries it with no RAM he says "nothing, it beeps".

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next? Could it just be that the motherboard is bad where the RAM fits?

A:Problems getting to POST on American Megatrends MOBO

Alright - I just recieved word that it now works. Which leads me to believe that even though it appeared we had the RAM set properly it wasn't.
Now it boots into Win98 and just gives the usual errors when you don't have proper drivers installed and such, I'm going to let him work on that on his own because I think he has a pretty good handle on getting that set straight.
(he pulled this PC together from scrap parts so even getting this thing to run is a plus for him)
I'll post back with any other motherboard related problems that might crop up.

hi folks. good day to you all. my name is max. i can install windows and manage basic troubleshooting related to software without any problems. a couple of months back i installed windows xp on my friends computer and it was working fine but a month after installation, when he booted the comp up, he would get the startup options msg (safe, normal and so on) instead of windows booting up normally. when he tried to boot it up in any mode, the windows xp loading logo would just appear and windows just kept restarting. i thought it might be a software problem ,so i made a fresh install of xp and it was working fine . but now once again the same problem seems to have occured. this screen pops up when he starts the comp. i have included the image he sent me (its a bit blurry but you can make out whats on it). i searched about it and as you can see in the image, the problem seems to be about CMOS settings. now, from what i have learned so far after researching about it is that its either the CMOS battery that has lost its charge, died, or maybe its just a CMOS (or bios? not sure) settings problem. can you guys please take a look at the image and tell me what exactly is wrong and what steps i would have to take to fix his problem? thank you in advance.

Here's the problem: When I start my computer, I'll get a black screen with a bunch of text with "American Megatrends" as the header. The screen is unusual, and on the bottom it says "CPU fan error!, press F1 to continue." If I simply press f1 and ignore it, my computer eventually shuts off, and restarting my computer doesn't get my display back, I have to reset my cmos.

Things that I've tried: Now, I had this problem before, and my computer doesn't have a cmos switch, so I had to take out the battery for a couple minutes, and that worked.
Today I woke up to have the same problem. Only this time, when I took out the battery and put it back, the problem persisted.
So I tried entering my system setup and set "CPU fan speed" to ignore, that still did nothing.

So I'm aggravated, annoyed and helpless. Any help would be appreciated.

A:K7S41 Upgrade problem

There will be an entry in the BIOS to enable the AGP slot, against a choice for PCI. Once installed, it should take over from the onboard but check Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager - if there's a display adapter, you could uninstall it first if you have a problem.

Hi folks,

I recently upgraded my CPU to an AMD 3200+, and it now crashes a minute or two after boot-up. Specs are:

CPU: AMD 3200+ (Barton core) AXDA3200DKV4D
RAM: 2 x 1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module CT12864Z40B
PSU: 450 Watts
Motherboard: ASROCK K7S41 (not the GX)

Now, the FSB jumpers on the motherboard can be set to 200, 266, 333 or 400 MHz. As the RAM is 400 MHz (effective speed, I gather), I set the FSB jumpers to 400 as-well, and it runs noticeably faster, but crashes after boot-up. If I set the FSB down to 200 MHz again, the CPU runs at 1111 MHz (says CPU-Z), but doesn't crash..

The wierd thing is, the BIOS doesn't seem to support the RAM running at 400 MHz (although this could be a red-herring)... the motherboard manual says:

DRAM Frequency:
If set to [Auto], the motherboard will detect the inserted memory module(s) and
automatically assign appropriate frequency. You may select other value as
the operating frequency: [133MHz (DDR266)], [166MHz (DDR333)],
[200MHz (DDR400)]. Please note that the option [200MHz (DDR400)] will be

I have upgraded to the latest (v2.60) BIOS, and the DRAM frequency selector still only allows me to select 133 or 166 MHz, which is strange, as I have two sticks of PC3200 RAM as above.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here that is stopping me from running this CPU at 2200 MHz? I admit, I've never overclocked a PC before (which is probably obvious), ... Read more

Since I'm not an expert at present, I can't do a lot to help others in this forum solve their problems. So I figure that the most helpful thing I can do is post enough information that hopefully others can learn from my experiences. That's why I'm putting so much documentation into this thread.

I have a WD 2TB external hard drive that I use for both System Image and data file backups. A week ago, I was trying to resize one of its partitions, and the process got hung up partway through. I took some steps to try to address any problems that may have resulted, but apparently I didn't do enough.

Here's the background:

The process apparently stopped at the "Rebuilding Partitions Info" stage - neither the percent complete, nor the elapsed time, nor the time had remaining changed for at least the past 3-4 hours. (Until it suddenly stopped, the elapsed time had been steadily growing.)

I've attached a screenshot showing the Paragon dashboard and status windows.

I read about PW Partition Recovery in one of the tutorials, so I ran a Quick Scan of the entire 2TB drive, with the following results (see screen shot).

Hi
As the topic says; after installation of a fresh copy from the original disc win7, my second partition "D" has been renamed itself to the Recovery Partition. You can see it only in the application "Disk Management". I do not have access into it at all. When I click the right mouse button ?help? option appears only . There are very important files to me.
I tried to use EASEUS Partition Master but I'm afraid of losing data.
Please help.

A:[SOLVED] After win7 install, 2nd partition has renamed itself to Recovery Partition

Have you taken the install disc out ? Sounds dumb but the d: partition is generally a reserved partition and indicates your CD-ROM drive, to me it looks like your install disc, the file system is UDF which is universal disc format, you have two recovery partitions on top. Remove the disk, reboot. Then choose a different letter other than D for your recovery partition.. Best to start with z

The fact that the file encryption is UDF, you will not have the ability to modify it, its not NTFS, FAT or FAT32.

Hi

currently I am using vista ultimate. I have only one partition (C:)

i want to install vista home premium onto (C:) but my dvd/cd drive does not work. I do not have (or want to use) a portable DVD/CD drive to reformat.

Im thinking of creating another partition (D:) and then transfering the "bootable folder for home premium", from another computer to (D:) via usb drive.

Can I boot from this new partition (D:) and reformat (C:)?

thanks.

A:HELP! No CD Drive, want to make recovery partition to format main partition

Hi -

Shrink the HDD --> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...n-my-hard-disk

However, Vista must be installed from DVD.

Is there a way to boot directly off of D:(recovery partition) so i can restore my gateway laptop to factory settings? Right now I get a "BOOTMGR is missing" error message. The C: drive is completely gone, but like i said, the recovery partition is intact.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I tried hitting f11 at startup to bring up gateways recovery menu, but again nothing. I have the windows vista recovery environment disc also if that helps.

A:Formatted Windows Vista partition, but i still have the Recovery partition on D:

There are files on c: used by the recovery partition on d:

Boot with your Vista recovery DVD and reinstall Vista.

Hi,

Need some help. I recently bought Acer Aspire 5560G. It comes with 500GB HDD with only one partition which is drive C. There are 2 hidden partitions as well. I would like to split my drive C in 2 partitions without effecting my Recovery partition. Is it possible??? if yes than what's the best way?? Help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Hard Drive Partition Without Effecting Recovery Partition

I think the easiest way to accomplish that is to shrink your C: partition. That will create unallocated space. And the unallocated space can be used to create a new partition.

Partition or Volume - Shrink

Partition or Volume - Create New

Hello, I recently inherited a Lenovo Ideapad U310 Model 4375 and it currently has Ubuntu installed with no sign of any Windows partitions.Because of this, I can no longer make a recovery disc (if it was even possible to make in the first place). I've looked up the serial # on Microsoft's website for Windows and the windows product key is to be serviced by OEM (so can't download a Windows 7 ISO).Also, when trying to go through Lenovo's contact us page, the laptop shows warranty has been expired (whcih is fine). However. I could not find a page where I could purchase the recovery disc. Other things I've tried is pressing the Recovery button on the side and selecting "System Restore" from the boot menu. As expected, this does not work as the partition no longer exists. My questiopn is, where can I get a recovery disc to restore this laptop (Ideapad U310 Model 4375) to factory settings?   Thanks,Jon

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Dell Windows RT tablet from someone. It had the problem of not starting anymore. I managed to get my hands on a Windows RT 8.0 Recovery USB Image for this type of tablet. I used a Imaging tool to install this image on a USB drive.
I booted with this and I could access the Advanced recovery options. I started the Command Prompt and launched Diskpart. I saw all of the partitions where gone. So I used Diskpart to re-install all of the partitions using the Microsoft standard.
It looks like this:

convert gpt
create partition primary size=450
set id=DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows RE tools"
assign letter=T
create partition efi size=200
format quick fs=fat32 label="System"
assign letter=S
create partition msr size=128
create partition primary
shrink minimum=4200
gpt attributes=0x0000000000000000
format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows"
assign letter=W
create partition primary
set id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
format quick fs=ntfs label="Recovery image"
assign letter=R
rescan
exit

All went well. After recreating the partitions, I used DISM to deploy the *.wim image on the USB drive to the Windows partition and installed the bootloader afterwards. The tablet was fixed after this :) I installed Windows RT 8.0 and updated to Windows

Hello,
I have a laptop HP 450 G3.
The disk contains
a) Recovery partition
b) System partition
TPM is activated
The Laptop wasn't attached to Domain.
I was using this system for over 6 months without a problem and <g class="gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="25" id="25">i</g>
was using only the <g class="gr_ gr_22 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="22" id="22">bitlocker</g> password to unlock it.
My password is a 10 digit number, for example, 1234567890
After I attempted a Windows 10 Upgrade to the latest version and turned off the PC the system now asks for Recovery key, which I don't have because ? never used it before.
All my files are in this partition, including the operating system and ? cannot access it.
I have also tried to unlock the drive with the manage-bde command but failed.

I am confident that ? types the password correctly since ? was typing it for 6 months.

What can ? do to get back my data? Anyone that can help me please contact me

I also tried the repair-bde command but with no success.

Hi everyone,

I'm stuck in a pretty bad situation right now and I have no idea about how to help myself..So recently I've been wanting to 'reset' my Windows 8.1 laptop, & I just cannot because my recovery environment is missing..
First when I got this problem I thought there would be an easy-intermediate level fix like every other problem. (and I love fixing stuff.)

But this one doesn't look like an easy fix or I'm not even sure If there is a fix. So the big mistake I did was, I deleted my "System Recovery Partition".

I have searched everywhere possible and I'm not getting a fix.. I would really appreciate IF YOU GUYS HELP ME!
and another problem is that I don't live in the USA or Canada.I've got a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, 8GB RAM, intel i5 3317u.

and Dell provides Backup Media to only the people who live in the US and Canada. Please guys, I need a solution.

I have a separate Windows 8.1 Installation Disk, but what I'm scared about is If I install my Windows from the disk, my Dell features would be gone and I don't think I'd be able to have a proper Recovery Environment in the future because this Disk's installation files are nothing related to Dell. Its just a clean Windows installation disk I got from my friend a while ago. I've tried the repair my computer option from the disk and it does not help...

Thank you

I am working on my sisters Toshiba L655d-S5055 notebook. windows 7, 3gb, amd v120 processor, 250gb drive. Started with error msg at boot "encountered a problem communicating with a device at startup......". Couldn't get by this error. took out drive, inserted into usb-enclosure, and tested. numerous sector errors. She has also lost the recovery disks I made for her. I used partition software to scan just the recovery partition, and there are no errors reported there. What I would like to do, is to copy to a flash drive, or make new recovery dvd's from this recovery partition; then I can use the coa from the back of the notebook (if necessary) for full install onto a new hard drive. However, I can't use the toshiba notebook for this; I can only use my desktop pc for the xfer; using the toshiba hard drive as a usb external drive, and the toshiba media creator software will not install onto my desktop pc (doesn't give me a reason). I would prefer to go the dvd-route, but flash drive would be ok, too. Any info is appreciated. thanks.

Product Name and Operating system: DV6 21124el (windows 7 ultimate 32bit)
Hi,
I have this laptop for the last 3 years and never used the recovery option as I didn't need to, the recovery partition is there never been formated, now my windows is too slow and wanted to restore it to factory install settings but when i press the F11 button in the start to boot in to recover mode it just take me to windows boot screen without giving an error, I did some research and found out that i have to make the recovery partition as active partition but the problem is that i couldn't do it as there is no such option to make the partition active in WINDOWS DISK MANEGEMENT and couldn't see the recovery partition in DISK PART (in windows).
images will be attatched if needed actually there was no error so that's why I didn't upload any image.

thanks in advance hoping i will get a reply here.
