I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I have had my Y700 for about 3 months and though it runs perfect, the power adapter gets so hot that it actually leaves my hand red when I pick it up! I never have the powersuply covered or anything like that. Every time I play any game it gets this hot. Is this normal? Something tells me it is not but I thought I would throw it out there. Also, if the power suply is a problem, are there 3rd party power adapters that would be better? thanks

A:Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

Hi Redemption77

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would that be the same if you plug it with or without any power strip or different source outlet?
Warm feel should be normal but if its unusually warm then it could be alarming as it goes too hot to handle.

If so , this may likewise cause damage to the laptop and be best that you call in technical support for recommendation and service . You may likewise test a different adapter with the same electrical specification of your current one to isolate .

The Yoga 3 Pro power adapter looks like a normal USB brick, and the cord looks like USB, except with a kink in the connector at the Yoga 3 Pro end. Can I charge my phone or tablet with it?

A:What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a ...

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!

How does it work?

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

Hello, I want to get a spare adapter for my Yoga 910 and I want to make sure I get one that will not damage my computer. I really don't know anything about these so please bear with my ignorance. There are many different ones on Amazon that claim to be for a Yoga 910 but since some of them don't even have a USB-C end, I'm hesitant to trust that all of them work. In particular, I'm interested in this one because it has a longer cord. http://tinyurl.com/y9e7dzuk But I note that it's 65W instead of 45W. Is this a problem? Thanks in advance. James

Hello everyone, I purchased Lenovo Yoga 900 Ideapad and I am currently using it in India. The power adapter seems to have gone bad and I wasn't able to charge the laptop with the given adapter.  Since the laptop is under warranty, I contacted the warranty help line only to know that I need to take the laptop to the service center. At a service center, no one really knew how the USB 3.0 charging port works and couldn't check whether the cable was short or the adapter had gone bad. Anyhow, they decided to replace it under warranty but again, they weren't sure when and if the replacement would arrive (as it depends on the inventory levels with Lenovo India).  An exclusive Lenovo shop then offered me an original Lenovo power adapter with USB 3.0 charging at USD 70 but only when it got delivered, I see that it is 40W and not 65W like the original one I had.  65W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter (one which connects the laptop) is orange. The wall adapter doesn't heat up while laptop is charging.40W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter is yellow. The wall adapter heats up quite a lot while the laptop is charging.  The Lenovo store representative has assured me that this is the right adapter but somehow I am not convinced.  Can the community throw some light on this:- Is it safe to use a 40W adapter for a 65W specification?- Is there any way I can get the adapter replaced by Lenovo US (I can ship the faulty adapter to US)?- I... Hi there,  I am a new user of a Yoga 530 and was wondering if there is a possibility to charge the device with a powerbank? I know that the USB-C ports are not capable of charging the laptop and that the laptop needs to be charged via the small round plug (sry I don't know the technical terms). The question is rather whether there is a power cable available that has a USB plug on the "non-laptop" side so I can then plug that into my powerbank (or a USB charging station)? Hopefully, the question is understandable. Thaks for any help!

A:Yoga 530 Power cable adapter available?

Short answer is no. The USB Type A ports on power banks, et al, deliver 5V at around 1 or 2A. Your 530's slim-tip charging port is looking for Around 20 volts (I don't have the exact voltage available, offhand, but it'll be listed on the charger that came with the computer). Creating a USB to slim-tip cable could damage both the computer and the power bank.

Here is an article featuring several power banks that might provide the necessary voltage and current. As I haven't tried any of them, I can't say for sure, but if you're very careful to match voltage, current and connector polarity, you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Does anybody know where I can get a replacement power adapter for a Lenovo Yoga 2 11? According to the manual, it should be 45W. It appears that neither the original nor any approve substitutes that are listed on the Lenovo site are available for purchase from Lenovo.  I tried to buy one online but ended up giving my money to an overseas scammer. There seems to be a facsimile available in the States, but reviews say that it is a fire hazard and wrecks computers. If it isn't advisable, is there a lighter adapter I can purchase for traveling? Any advice and help appreciated. sutjahjo

I think there is a short in the power adapter. It gets red hot and only charges when not fully (about halfway) inserted into the wall outlet or power strip. I can hear sparking inside of the power brick when i insert it and a spark flies to or from the outlet to the adapter as the prongs near the receptacle. Not sure but I think this might be a short where the prongs fold into the adapter for travel. I don't transport it much so there isn't a lot of folding in and out in which I could blame the issue on over use. Anybody else have issues with the power adapter shorting? I have not had this computer very long, well since about christmas, what are my chances of Lenovo swapping this out for a new one? I am waiting for a call back after contacting tech support. There isn't and there won't be an adapter.  The USB-C power delivery process involves a negotiation between the computer (or other device) and the adapter. The same adapter can charge a 5V phone or a 20V laptop. (also 9V or 15V) If the adapter and computer cannot negotiate correctly, no charging will occur. My USB-C charger will charge my thinkpad or my cell phone, but not my other laptops.

Hello,  this has been solved here, but the version of "defect" is indeed the opposite. (sorry my english)  As other users solved this problem with - it did not help using more powerful adapter with 90W 4.5A or upgrade BIOS. Power Saver off, no other power saver activated. Many times HW tests from Windows Troubleshooting and Lenovo Vantage - everything OK.  I attached here HWiNFO specification. - Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Windows 1709, all current drivers updated - no change with update 1803 - same situation)  The power adapter (and also i use many others - no change) will immediately reduce the processor frequency to a constant of 0.39GHz and using the bounce between 0 - 15% .Reinstall Windows, HW test and drivers etc. everything is OK.  Even no help from Settings - Windows - Options of Power - set min. usage processor 100% - no affects. I own a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga (1st gen as a Yoga; 4th gen as a Carbon), Product 20FQCTO1WW. Starting two days ago, it randomly reboots. The event log shows that it has had an unexpected reboot ("The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."), but reading the events leading up to the reboot doesn't give me much of a clue as to why. The only interesting events are messages that a core of the CPU is being throttled ("The speed of processor X in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."). I took the bottom cover off and agressively blew compressed air in every crevice. This did remove some dust buildup, but the system wasn't as dirty as I expected. In fact, it looked pretty clean. I also vaccuumed. And I removed the fan and thermal heatsink and throughly blew compressed air through it and made sure that there was no gunk clogging the heatsink air fins. After reassembling, it seems to be slightly more stable, but it has still rebooted a few times. There are lots of threads where people complain about fan noise and ask how they can reduce the speed of their fan. I'd like to run mine at max 100% of the time (noise be darned) for a few days just to see if that keeps the system from randomly rebooting. My Yoga S1 has contradictory, intermittent power issues that I'm trying to chase down. Culprits are bad power bric/cord/plug or power socket on mother board or power board that feeds into power button/led on. One day it blacked out and wouldn't restart to hard drive or windows stage. I did get an error code which I can't remember 5100 or 5500 poss?, that seemed to indicate the power board or ribbons to that needed replacement or re-attachment. So fiddled with it and it did fire up in windows all ok. Then ran out of power and died again. power button wouldn't light up. plugging in power unit did light up led as getting charge. Left it overnight and then it miraculously charged up. pushed power button light up twice then nothing. took out power board/detached ribbon, then it fired up to windows, fixed some hd errors and has been restarting without problems. Except now there is no plug showing on battery icon when plugged in. So not recharging but I'm sure the battery is good. And logically, the power brick and plug must be feeding electricity into laptop to get it to recharge enough to start up. So power socket and plug may be suspect with intermittent contact problems. When I connect USB-C to VGA adapter - in a minute left side of PC starts to overheat, fans starts spinning intensively and battery forecast drops from 13 hours to 1.5h..

Recently started using x1 carbon 3rd gen. Really nice laptop, but there are two issues bothering me, and if i cannot fix them then i'll have to return it.....1. Overheating: I get keep the fan noise down is comfortable, but not turning the fans on when they are needed causes the system to over heat. My laptop cores are on ideal around 65-75 degrees on average. But all the cores consistently reach 90 plus, even toping at 100 degrees C when just using excel and web browsing. That is unacceptable, as it will affect the laptops performace over the long term. With a laptop worth 2000 dollars plus, I didnt buy it to use just for one year and get an upgrade. What can I do to make the tempertures stay low? 2. There seems to be a major lag issues when using excel. I need excel to work without hesitations and freezes, and that's the reason i opted for 16gb rather than 8gb. But when using excel, even if there are not soo many spreadsheets open (even 2 at the same time is enough sometimes) the program continues to freeze. What the issue? Greetings, tech forum!

I come here in hope to seek advice on what is wrong with my laptop. It's an Asus N53SV and it's been a good boy for 2 years (though I guess the sound did screw up sometimes when in battery mode..) but lately it's been a real pain with my wireless card. I mean a real pain. I'll be lucky if it doesn't die before I get to send this post. After a while of using the computer it just disappears. I go to the device manager and it's just gone from the network adapters list. I restart - sometimes it shows up for a short while, but eventually it'll not show up and all I have to od is wait half an hour or something before the next time it hiccups. This results in ~15 reboots per day and is getting on my nerves. I guess it's overheating cause I can't think of another parameter that would act and change that way that goes on in the computer, but I don't know much about computers.

So yeah, something's wrong down there and if anybody has any advice, I will gladly read it, maybe heed it.

P.S. A full Windows reinstall did not help. Also I use windows 7 64-bit, if that means anything to this problem.

Thanks in advance!

A:Wireless adapter not found (possibly overheating?)

If you can easily access the wireless card through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

If you can't easily access it (some are under the keyboard) or if the above doesn't fix it your best move may be to get a USB adapter.

Hi, I've just bought a new laptop and I have noticed that it overheats alot, making the keybord too hot. I was using lightroom when I have noticed it. Do you have some solution for the problem? This is a new laptop and if there isn't something to solve this issue imediatly, my plan is to return it asap, so please get back as soon as possible. Regards,/S

Hi smaximo,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try applying the solution provided here before you decide on the return.

This would also apply not only to any noise issue but also the heating as the second part of uninstalling the Qualcomm Atheros WLAN Installer, then reinstall the driver would help.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I just received my laptop after ordering it back o July 5th.  I had to wait two months on backorder to receive my laptop.  Anyone else having overheating issues?  I cannot put this in my lap or hold it.   So HOT! Should I just return the product?

Hello, I have Yoga 900 13ISK2 for almost a year now and about few months ago I've noticed that fan started working quite often. After installing CPUID HWMonitor I can see that CPU get's to 100°C! What could be the cause of that? I've reset BIOS, Windows, etc, completely fresh installation and the problem persists. I've attached a screenshot of HWMonitor. If I take it to service I will be left without notebook for sometime, which is not really an option.  Thank you for any inputs

Hello, I've had this laptop for a bit over a year, it was always a bit warm after a few minutes of usage, but the last few months its been getting so hot that I can't put my hand over the top part of the keyboard. This is happening regardless of if it's plugged to the charger or not, and happens after just a few minutes of usage. Has anyone also had this problem or have a solution for it? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Hello, Since installing windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro (Core i5 4200U, 8GB Ram) , I've had persistant issues with cpu temperature and over-active fans. The laptop's two fans seem to be constantly active, and using a number of applications  - realtemp, CPUID HWMonitor, Speedfan, Notebook Fan Control- I've observed CPU temps of between 40 and 60 degrees centigrade when idle, and between 70 and 80 when using any kind of application  - regardess of CPU load.I performed a clean install of windows 10 a few days ago - in the hope that this might somehow help - but neither that, nor yesterday's anniversary update has had any effect. The only solution I've come across is to lower the Max processor state in power options, but that's hardly a fix. Short of opening the laptop, cleaning out its fans, and inspecting the heat sink, is there anything else I can try to address this issue? Thansk
