I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 taking long time to boot (almost 30 min) The computer is stuck with black screen during 30 min, before the lenovo logo appears and then it boots fine. Before logo, just a black screen and power looks good. The problem, the fans don't work and the computer gets very warm. Sometimes, because the high-temperatures, it automatically switches down, because temperatures, before seeing the lenovo logo. With lenovo diagnosis software I have checked all the hardware, and the tools says all hardware is ok. My os is Windows 10. Could you please, somebody help me to solve this problem? I'm afraid the heat of the start could harm my computer. Why this boot is taking so long before logo? Thank you in advance, ip

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Hello, I've had my ideapad z500 for exactly 4 years last month, 4 years in which it worked perfectly (except for the brightness problem that seems to plague this model and had me recover the whole system evry time I accidentally lowered brightness) It still works perfectly, but 3 days ago it suddenly started whirring and vibrating. The vibration seems even throughout the laptop, but the sound seems to come form the left side (again, I can't really tell).First time it happened, I freaked out and force-shut it down (holding the power button). This made the whirring stop, but when I started it again, it resumed. Again, i stopped the machine and I started trying to unscrew everything I found (I mean, it's been 4 years, so I assume I had no warranty anyway), but I couldn't really open anything, so i put back the 9 screws. I mention this because, apparently, me turning it on all sides must've done something to it, because after starting the laptop again, there was no sound. The next days it worked just fine.Today, however, it started again. I didn't close it immediately and I continued using it some 3 minutes (and except for the sound and vibration, everything was working perfectly), hoping that it will go away, but it didn't and I turned off the laptop. Other details that might be important:-while I normally use the laptop for cpu-intensive tasks, this occured in a week when I distinctively didn't do anything other than text editing and web browsing. Hi utkutrk ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Update us how it goes.

Hi there, I'm trying to fix my Aunt's windows XP computer. I downloaded MBAM as she had previously mentioned getting a call on the phone from someone in India telling her she needed to pay $160 for her antivirus or her computer would shut down.

I ran MBAM and it took about 8 hours to scan, and at the very end found a bunch of results. I told it to get rid of them, and then restarted. Upon restarting, it also ran a disk check, and after that finished, it booted up but took forever to load. Upon loading the taskbar showed up for a brief moment, then disappeared, and I can't seem to get it to run from the task manager either. It brings up the explorer.exe process briefly, then without ever loading the taskbar, it ends the process.

I got a bit worried at this point and tried to restart in safe mode. However, when I do that, it loads a bunch of drivers and then stops. It never finishes loading. (this happens in safe mode with and without networking)

I also tried restarting back into normal mode and running avast through command prompts, but it doesn't do anything and I also got errors stating that a particular file is missing.

What should I do next? I was going to attempt running combofix from my flash drive, but when I try to CD into the drive, it says the drive isn't ready. If you have any suggestions on what to do, let me know, thanks.

Hi Guys,

I am a member of the sevenforums and currently have a win8 laptop so thought I'd sign up here (seems to be the same people behind both forums).

I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some feedback.

My Lenovo ideapad z500 had 2 keys (K and I) that stopped working (they worked on the touchscreen) and then after that the delete, 8, and arrow keys topped working. Not sure why.

Before I get the keyboard replaced I'm wondering if it could be something else? There's no water damage and I haven't dropped it so I'm confused. I was told it has to be water damage but maybe 1 drop from the condensation on a glass of water is all I can think that may have affected it.

Would be great for some input on this issue.

Thanks!

A:Laptop Keys Stopped working - Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Win8

I was told it has to be water damage

Not true. In fact, water in the keyboard normally does not cause permanent damage. That is, once the water dries, all works again - most of the time. But that does depend on many variables - type of keyboard membrane, how much water, if just water (no sugars or cream, for example), and how much dust, dirt, oily hair/dander, cigarette smoke, cookie crumbs, etc. are under the keys when the water was spilled. The greater damage generally comes when the water works it way through the keyboard and into the computer's electronics.

I would try a regular PC keyboard first to see what happens. If all the keys work properly with a standard USB keyboard, then you can be pretty certain it is the notebook keyboard at fault, and not something more serious.

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

A:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

ok, the thing is i had this virus on my pc which i learned after a lot of research required me to boot in safe mode in order to remove it. The problem is, while trying to boot in safe mode several times, my computer just crashes to a blue screen. I then learned that besides pressing F8 there was another way to boot in safe mode by going to "Run" and typing msconfig and booting it manually that way. Unfortunetly, this technique ended in the same crash. By now i realize that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to boot in safe mode. My one major problem now is, that i CANNOT BOOT IN NORMAL MODE EITHER. I guess by trying to boot in safe mode using msconfig, i've changed my pc's settings to where now, normal mode=safe mode, and obviously, safe mode keeps crashing. As of now i cannot boot my pc AT ALL. I thought there might be a way to recover/fix safe mode by using the windows cd, but i really dont know what to do. i hope you guys can help me out, thanx

Hello All;

Four times previously I've been able to read through the forums and fix it myself, but this time I've got to yell "help".

I dont' remember what I clicked, (some sort of video player) and suddenly the computer became really slow. I realized what had happened soon after. I've run malwarebytes, but it would not let me update, giving an error code of 732(12029,0) It did however find 4 Trojans and quarantined them
Upon reading a little further in the forum, I read to delete MB and download a fresh copy. From your site, and another link to computer geeks, it told me I have no internet connection. I was finally able to find a link on your site which allowed me to download MB, but still am unable to update it.

I have downloaded and run combofix after shutting off all AV.

It will not allow me to boot into safe mode, locking up about half way through.
I cannot go to Malwarebytes.org or Trendmicro.com - it says I have no internet connection which is not true. I'm here.

I would really appreciate some help....I'm thinking Trojan?

Adendum 2/23 10:36am -
Ran SuperAnti-Spyware which found 23 adwares, and Trojan.Agent/Gen-Nullo(short)
I'm unable to update SuperAnti-Spyware, Malwarebytes, or windows updates.

Yesterday I experienced a virus that had downloaded itself onto my computer. It took over my desktop and disabled my windows automatic updates. I was using windows defender and malware bytes anti-malware at the time and they were also disabled. My first thought was to go into safe mode.
Unfortunately, when I selected safe mode during my boot up it would scroll messages and switch to the blue screen of death. Since this option was now useless I booted up with no connection to internet. This at least slowed the program from starting up. I used my system restore to go back to a couple days before the virus showed up. That restart worked and the virus did not take over the desktop anymore. However, my automatic updates were still off and I still could not boot into safe mode. I could use my antivirus programs so I ran scans.

Malware Bytes Anti-Malware turned up 3 infections.
HKEY_Current_User\software\currentversion\Run\nah_shell
C:\ProgramFiles\MozillaFirefox\chrome\amba.jar
c:\DocumentsandSettings\Kelly\nah_uotm.exe

I cleaned those infections and all seemed well. I tested safe mode and it still boots me into the blue screen of death. I also purchased Windows Live One Care to get more protection on my computer in case I'm still hacked. However, all of my antivirus scans turn up with no problems. I'm starting to think I should do a ctrl+F... Read more

A:Unable to Boot into Safe Mode

Also just tried again after a windows one care scan and have the error messages from the blue screen of death written down now.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

and at the bottom it says:

STOP: 0X00000050 (0XC8105DE4, 0X00000001, 0X80537009, 0X00000000)

Hello,

My name is Jay,

Yesterday I had a maleware attack (I am sorry I don't remember which "virus scanner" one) I proceeded to shut my computer down and re booting in safe mode. After that I ran malewarebytes and removed everything to the best of my ability. Upon rebooting I am unable to boot back into anything but safe mode, every other boot option just hangs and reboots.

I am writing this from my laptop, since I am unable to connect to the internet via my other pc (network connections deleted). Any ideas prior to me manual keying the hijackthis log into this post.

Appreciate any help.

Thank You,
Jay

hi;

i seem to have some kind of problem because I keep getting this svchost.exe error popping up. I have run virus scans, spyware scans, etc. but no luck removing it. went online to the virus folks, they sent me a tool to run a startup report, but want it run in safe mode. Everytime I try to boot pressing the F8 key it gives me the option to boot in safe mode, the drivers all list on the screen then it turns off and on again and starts normally. I am really getting frustrated - can anyone help me please.

Hello,
The problem you describe could be a corrupted driver. Can you boot the system normally? If so, you can check the event viewer for errors and the device manager for warnings.

Hi, i'm using Windows XP service pack 2 atm.
Currently, my PC only boots in safe mode, i've enabled networking to post here and get some help. Whenever i boot my PC normally, it always asks the option to boot with safe mode/networking/command prompts, even if it's been shut down properly.
I have just got my PC back from a repair shop after the guy finished a "soft repair", not knowing what was actually wrong with my PC in the first place (helpful >_>). It booted normally once, i went to catch up on my TV online and the screen blacked out, gave the "No signal" blue square and stayed black, all while the audio was still playing, occasionally sounding slightly distorted.

I'm not computer savvy like a lot here and any help would be appreciated. My withdrawal symptoms are kicking in

A:Unable to boot (Only in safe mode)

Is this a laptop or a desktop? This sounds like a desktop computer
A computer that blacks out and has the No Signal message on the screen means that there is a problem with either the monitor it may not be screwed in. But if it works in Safe Mode, then the Video driver. Go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers site, type in your Make, Model # or you Service tag # and download the Video driver for your model.
Better yet, You shouldn't be trying to repair your computer after it was just repaired. Since you just got it back from repair, then take it back and make them fix it until it's the way you want it. If a desktop bring in your monitor too.

Hi Tech-Guy.

Last posted to you last year on a slow PC - this was my home computer which is working fine thx.

My work pc however has just decided to completely die on me. It is a HP Laptop (HP Compaq nx6125) - specific details of which I am unaware of, but runs Windows XP Professional. This morning, the screen started to go all "fuzzy" and then the PC locked up - so I switched off to re-boot.

I get a black screen (F10 - Setup) where i have a number of options to boot up, including SAFE MODE.

If I do nothing, then after about 20 seconds, the screen goes fuzzy again, and the system re-boots back to the black screen and the process repeats itself.

When i choose SAFE MODE, i get a list of system32 drivers scrolling down the screen. It then stops, the screen goes fuzzy and the PC re-boots back to the black screen.

Is the CPU screwed? or is it the hard drive/video card? I haven't attempted to re-boot from XP CD since I have files on my hard drive which are not backed up (mainly outlook express email from 3 years of project work).

please help if any - donation to follow

thx

mark

A:Unable to re-boot even in Safe Mode

I would suggest taking this laptop to your trusted local repair station or shop. It sounds like the power supply and/or battery might be going south or it could be a problem with the LCD screen or video card. A qualified person looking at the computer would be the best course of action to take at this time.
