I i have run my cable and now i an having trouble wiring wall plates. The back of the plug has 2 banks and i don't know how to wire it.
Any help asap would me much appreciated.

Preferred Solution: How to wire wall plates.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to wire wall plates.

are these mdvo connectors for wallplates? I usu. do walls as 568A and patch cords as 568B color codes. The 'A' color codes match telco stuff more closely. What ever u use (a or b) make sure it's the same at both ends.
Is there no color plate on the snapdown of the connector?

Are they like the ones in http://www.nordx.com/public/htmfr/pdf/ez-mdvo.pdf or are we dealing with something different like bix ?

I have been upgrading my cables for LAN and Sat TV. I am almost ready to "clean up" the wiring. I was looking at rj45 modules, coax modules, and wall plates. Before I get myself into trouble, will someone please answer a few questions for me?
1.) Are "keystone" and "leviton" modules and plates interchangeable or do I have to stay with one or the other.
2.) Are all rj45 modules the same? Some seem to say Cat 5 others Cat5e and others Cat 6. I ran Cat5e cable for my expansion and update and want to be sure I get the right modules. I purchased bulk cable and a crimp tool and successfully made up my own cables, so I feel pretty comfortable that I will be OK "punching down" the cable to the module. Also saw some modules that did not require a punch down tool.

Basically I just want to end up with several two or three port wall plates with modules for TV (f connector), LAN (rj45 module) and regular telephone.

Any insight would be appreciated.

A:Solved: Modules and Wall Plates

You should stick with one brand. I use the Leviton ones here, and they've worked out fine for me. The only difference between them might be the CAT6, some CAT6 cable (but not all) is 23ga instead of 24ga like CAT5/5e. If you have CAT5e, CAT5 connectors and jacks are compatible, they're the same thing. The Leviton ones I used recently have a plastic cover that presses the wires into the block, no tool required.

I jumpered the sata connection going into my drives because the ''roofs'' of the connectors broke off due to such a thin hard plastic I don't know how anyone thought that was gonna last but they don't slide in or stay put and i can't fix it. The only spare connector I had handy was the 4 wire deal so I jumpered it as usual matching yellows, reds and blacks except for the orange 3 volt, just left it hanging. The drives start up and i can even read off them in Killdisk running a live CD but whenever I try to run a delete pass on the HDD it just freezes and I'm forced to hard reset. I don't know if that CD drive needs that extra 3 volts or if it doesn't like the way I bundled up all the grounds going into it but the drive is not stable as far a usability. It boots but if I click an option too fast or try to run something it's hard reset all over again.

Having a bit of a problem here. Have recently installed Kaspersky Internet security v6.0.2

Things were ok before the installation as for me to download from a program such which requires opening of ports, i was easily able to through the router firewall. It now seems i have to do this using Kaspersky also?

Now, that seems ok until i see so many options. I see "Rules for applications", "Rules for packet filtering" and "Zones". The first two contain similar sort of rules.

How do i go around configuring this if i want to download using mIRC for example. Could someone please provide a step by step on what ports i should be using first of all for downloading using DCC and how do i confgire Kaspersky along with that.

ps. I have a netgear DG834G and have my ip address forwarded using dyndns.org

Hi Everyone,

First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this thread.

I'm a professional writer.

I have a Dell Dimension 3250 Running Windows XP Service Pack 3.

This is an older machine with Pentium 4, 256 MB of RAM.

While understanding it's old, I need this machine to do two things:

1. Use the Internet
2. Use Microsoft Word

I don't need it to burn DVD's and CD's, play flight simulator games games, edit large picture files or store mp3s, I don't need to tweet or Facebook or any of that jazz. I don't need it to even print anything.

I need it to write and e-mail.

Seriously - there are cell phones that do this and my six year old computer can't.

This thing cost me about $1,000 back in 2004 and now it can't do these two things?

This machine blows at those two simple tasks. Why?

The internet is slow and often "pauses" and it struggles to run the two programs at the same time.

The tower is always making that clicking noise.

People tell me I should just buy a new computer.

Maybe a Mmac that will put me out another 2K and look quite sleek,
but that I'll really only need to do two things: e-mail and write.

To that I say - why should I buy a new computer for 2K that does 100 things I don't need? This computer is old, sure but shouldn't it at least be able to do these two tasks?

Adware? Malware? Registry Errors? I've been down this road 1,000 times.

I run the following programs all the time:

avast! anti-virus... Read more

With XP SP3 you need WAY more than 256MB of RAM. When you purchased your computer, you could get away with 256MB of RAM, but SP3 upped the ante memory wise. You really should upgrade to something like 1GB of RAM. That would provide a noticeable improvement in speed. This is all under the assumption that everything else is running correctly in your computer. The clicking noise is likely the HD working feverishly to do what it needs to do to simply function. We could go in to swapping memory to the HD (the system does it as a way to function with limited resources), but that would start to make your eyes water with boredom. I'd suggest going to http://www.crucial.com/ have it scan your system and order the RAM they suggest. Their RAM is guaranteed to work with your computer if you order what they suggest. It really is an inexpensive upgrade that would extend the usable life of your machine.

I have an old hard drive which i used for bacup of personal files whilst i replaced another HD. However the drive was fine for the write but as soon as i tried to copy back the bacup drive failed. I think the spindle is damaged as the head jumps constantly.
Me being me i didnt do any other bacups so i lost a lot of important stuff and the missus is gonna kill me. DOH.

Anyway, the question is this. I have heard rumours that i can place the plates into another drive of similar capicity and it MAY work. Is there any truth in this?

If so does it need to be same manufacturer, and what about size differances between the two drives, will the mobo be able to work with it etc.

Cheers for any help.

i have the usb single user modem that came with bulldog. the thing is that i own a belkin ethernet modem and the wire from the microfilter that currently goes into the usb modem doesnt fit in the belkin router. i know i need ethernet from the phoneline but don't know how to get it.

1) is there a different microfilter that contains an ethernet plug??
2)will i have to buy a different modem that allows me to put in the ADSL line one end and then get ethernet out the other?
3)if i do have to buy a new modem can anyone recommend one???

thanks, sorry if i didnt explain the problem very well!!!

A:i want ethernet on the end of a wire instead of ADSL wire....

What kind of plug does your Belkin modem accept?

If the one coming out of your microfilter is a narrow one (RJ11) then you can plug it into the wide (RJ45) socket no problem - the wires used by telephones match across these plugs. If things are the other way around then you can just go buy a cable with proper plugs or an adapter. You can also run the thing without a microfilter just fine.

what makes cat5 cable cat5 cable? as i understand it, it is just 8 normal wires that are jacked in a certain order to allow data transfer. so would it be possible to jack one rj45 jack onto the end of two clipped and stripped rj11 sized phone cables?
logically it seems like it should work...but when i attempted it, it was extremely slow. I was using very very old phone wire so maybe the quality of the wires had something to do with the slowness.
any thoughts on the subject?

A:phone wire as network wire

There are a number of twists that have to be done to each pair in order for it to pass good signal. Phone cords are not held to the same standards thus what probably resulted in the slowness.

I am currently building a new machine, with P4 3.2ghz. I've read several times that Prescott core cpus like the Intel 640 run very hot, and that the OEM heat sink stinks . I have decided that the 3D rocket cooler from GigaByte, which got rave reviews everywhere for effectiveness and quiet, would be the best solution.

My board is the newest mean machine from Foxconn, the 925XE7AA-8EKRS2, and uses a 4 pin cpu fan header, as the OEM fan from Intel uses a 4 pin plug. The 4th pin is PWM (pulse width modulation signal to the fan for variable speed control) The GigaByte fan does NOT have the 4th pin. Will Intel's on chip thermoster still operate the fan in a variable speed mode normally without the use of the PWM pin? Is there something in BIOS I need to set to ensure this?

Just don't want to waste my money on a turbo performing cooler, if it's stuck running on only one speed...

Hi Hope someone can help.

I have board SOYO K7VTA PRO motherboard. It has a four pins on the board where you can put a four-pin speaker. I have a two-pin speaker. Is there anything I can do to convert the two-pin to four-pin.

And what's the difference between the two anyway?

A:PC speaker 2 wire / 4 wire

If you are talking about hooking up the case speaker to the motherboard then there is no difference. The regular (four pin plug) just uses two of the pins anyway. You can try cutting your plug in two and just connecting the two pins where they need to go on the system board connections.

Hi ultimate_loser,Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I'm afraid I've got bad news.Your system is infected with one of the nastiest file infectors:Virut is a polymorphic file infector with some additional features. It spreads all around the drive and infects even files infected by another virus previously. The only symptoms are a strange HDD activity while infecting, and also unwanted TCP traffic. Virut tries to connect you into an IRC network under the user name "Virtu" and zombify you. Unfortunately, the cleaning of this virus is very difficult or almost impossible.http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virus...s.aspx?id=55141The virus remains resident in memory and infects executable files with ".EXE" and ".SCR" file extensions. It's damage to the system is almost beyond repair as it disables Windows File Protection:The virus disables Windows File Protection by injecting code into the "winlogon.exe" process that patches system code in memory.http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virus...s.aspx?id=55141Therefore all those running processes are most probably now the virus agent. There is a claim by Grisoft that the following tool can remove the infection:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Win...t-Remover.shtmlThis claim is hard to believe. Hello!I have been researching a problem with my sister's computer for DAYS and keep hitting walls with suggested fixes. She initially came to me because she couldn't get onto the internet and had been told by her ISP that it was something on her end, not theirs. She then added in that the computer was giving her an error message and then restarting itself constantly. When I looked at it, the error message said something along the lines of NT Authority/System and DCOM Server Process launcher service terminated unexpectedly and that the computer would restart in 60 seconds, which it did. When I looked up some of the words in that message I was first directed to a worm removal for msblast.exe. It offered a download for a removal tool, and suggested that I end the msblast process before continuing. When I looked in the task manager, there was no msblast process listed as running, not even in safe mode. That particular site did offer one helpful tip that has worked so far though. It mentioned to run the command 'shutdown -a' when that error pops up to prevent it from the restart. That has worked everytime to stop it and continue on.I then continued to look and was directed to try running Hijack This and checking it on their site. I did that, found a couple of items it suggested to remove, removed them, but no fix for the random restarts. That site also suggested running malwarebytes, which I did, and removed 40-some objects. Still no fix. I also tried a suggestio... Read more

So here's the story: I purchased a new Mobo, CPU and Graphics Card to upgrade my somewhat outdated PC.

I put in all the parts and was ready to go and turned it on, it went to POST (YAY! ), so then I proceeded to flash my BIOS so that the motherboard can support the new CPU. According to the manufacturers website, i will need the latest drivers so that it may support this CPU. So I dled the new BIOS drivers onto a FAT32 USB and was ready to do it, then hit a brick wall, not 1 keyboard allowed me to actually enter the BIOS.

I tried 2 different USB keyboards, (in all the USB ports) and even went out and bought a PS/2 keyboard, but none of them would let me go into the BIOS as if the keyboards were not being detected. I checked to see if it was the USB ports themselves, but it I plugged in my USB headphones and they lit up, so that wasn't the problem.

There was nothing I could do to get into the BIOS so that I may update my motherboard and get on my way to a new PC.

Here are the Specs:

- Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3R Motherboard
- Nvidia 780 Ti GTX
- Intel i7-3770k processor
- Crucial Ballistix 8GB DDR3 RAM
- 2x300GB HDD
- 1x180GB Intel SSD
- Thermeltake 600W PSU (yes i know, this is the minimum required, but I will get a new one soon)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm fairly good with computers up to a point so I gave it a fair go but it's beaten my level of knowledge. The computer is slow to boot up and doesn't always boot up everytime. Once it has loaded, although it's slow no problems really start until a browser is used (both IE and Mozilla). From here, what I guess is a browser hijack happens as numerous pop up windows come up and everytime they are closed (either by clicking the cross or Ctrl-Alt-Del) another appears.

There are tonnes of processes going on that I don't recognise and if I go to close them down they just come back up again - one is called IEXPLORE (I think). Also, it appears two of the keys on the keyboard no longer work, I'm guessing this is somehow related.

So, what have I tried? Well, firstly I booted into Safe Mode, ran the AVG free antivirus software (it wouldn't let me update it) and it found seven viruses (mostly trojans). I deleted and rebooted into Safe Mode. I then ran Ad-aware and tried Spybot - this wouldn't load up. I ran AVG Anti-Spyware and this found tonnes of stuff which it then cle... Read more

I'd start with testing the memory. You can click on the link to Memtest in my signature. Run it on one stick at a time, overnite or untill it reports errors

I have recently downloaded SP2 and all seemed to be going well. The Security Centre recoginsed my anti-virus software (AVG) and apart from a minor glitch which means that I must reboot my PC to get the Security Centre to change from a red to a green light when I update the software all was well.

However I have read that the beefed up firewall provided with SP2 can conflict with existing products - in my case Zonealarm and accordingly I switched the windows firewall off.

I now have a 'check status' red light on the Security Centre with a message stating "Zonealarm is installed but its status is unknown"

I have checked with the Zonealarm software which indicates all is functioning normally - should I just ignore the warning message (which I don't really want to do) or switch the Windows firewall back on and risk possible conflict. Is there a way I can get Windows to recognise the status of my firewall?
Any help would be appreciated.

Under firewall in security center, click on recommendations, and see if there's an option to let you monitor your firewall yourself.

A:hit a brick wall in oc'in

You want to keep the HT multi at around 1000 [HT multi X FSB= HT speed]
It should be at 5 now [5 X 200= 1000] If you fsb is getting close to 250, you would want to lower it to 4. These settings are in the manual so I would read the manual before doing anything.

Next your ram. When you oc the fsb, you are oc the ram as well. You might need to lower the ram speed to get it back to near stock [or buy faster ram]

Are you using prime95 to check the stability of your overclock?

I have not used a fire wall for years but with the amount of hacking and such going on today on the net. I am wondering if there is a good software Fire Wall.
I am running Window 7 sp1 and use sattalite internet provider because where I am at there is nothing else.

A:Fire Wall

I have W7 & I use the firewall that came with it which I understand is just fine. I would say as long as you keep your computer security programs updated & clean, you should be fine.
Get your security software from here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/security/

One of our Members, Jacee, posted in Seven Forums about this great software. It allows you to easily choose what cookes remain on your system. Spying has become very common. I send emails, about travel and trips and then get spam about Motels in that area. I suggest that everyone investigate the applicability of this software, for themselves, and then take the appropriate course of action.

Using F2 I was able to boot from my CD drive that was the "D" drive. I am trying to run a recovery using my XP CD. I get up to press F8 to agree to the license agreement then it hits the fan. It recognizes that I had upgraded to XP from Windows ME so it asks me to insert ME to prove I had a Windows system. After I insert ME it shows the "E" partition has about 38 GB and the "C" partition has 8 mg. It can not install in "C" and tells me I must delete the "F" partition to install XP. It tells me if I delete the "F" partition I will lose everything. I ran SFC and chkdsk but nothing helped. I need some fresh ideas. Thanks.
