lenovo yoga 710 cpu temperature concerns

Q: lenovo yoga 710 cpu temperature concerns

Hi all,I recently bought the lenovo 710 14ikb, the i7 version. Overall very pleased with the look, feel and performance of the laptop. As many i did notice the excessive cooling and noise coming from the fan, in both idle state and when performing simple tasks such as photo viewing or opening multiple windows. I tried updating the BIOS, didn't help( and can't find the advanced bios settings activation). I installed NBFS and this does help by manually controlling the fan speed not to go in full activity at the low BIOS set temperatures (at approx 50 degrees celsius). Now that I have installed the fans, I keep an active eye on the cpu temperature through the monitoring icon provided by the NBFS tool and am concerned about the temp fluctuations. When starting the laptop, it boots ( plugged) at 35 degrees, shooting up to 60 degrees when activating all apps etc, then drops to an idle between 38 and 45 degrees. However any activity that requires a heavier load ( opening photoviewer/instagram) and multiple windows creates these spikes of temperatures rising up to 62 - 72 degrees celsius after which they come back down again. What's your experience with the cpu temp spikes with the 710? Are more users experiencing these temp spikes? I know it's relatively oke up to 100 degrees, and I am going to stress test the cpu, but it feels rather unstable.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

it Update: Installed the second BIOS update that was mentioned on the forum. Now with NBFC on read only status the fan indeed is not as active, so it appears Lenovo has adjusted the fan control on the temperatures. However, with the laptop in high performance mode , i opened Opera browser with youtube and three other windows and the temperatures are increasing to 75-83 degrees celsius. I believe we should be able to use the laptop at optimum settings without experiencing these unhealthy cpu temps. Could it simply be subpar quality of the fans used, the kaby lake cpu quality or is this a defect?

Hi there! I've had my Yoga for about 2 years now, and recently updated it when Lenovo Settings prompted me to download Lenovo Vantage instead (probably about.... two weeks ago or so?).  Since I downloaded Vantage, though, the color temperature of my screen keeps changing. Sometimes it has more of a blue tone, and other times it goes ridiculously yellow. It's not happening in response to changes in lighting (it's happened three times as I write this post, and I've been sitting on my couch with my blinds closed the entire time), and I've made sure dynamic brightness control as well as eye care mode are turned off. Even with both turned off, my screen keeps changing color, and it's only happened after installing Vantage--none of my other programs would be doing this, and hadn't been affecting things until the installation. Any thoughts?

Hi,

My computer has been acting a bit differently lately and I was just wondering about it.... The computer will often increase the fan speed and get warmer with even slight tasks like browsing the web, while a few days ago the computer, even when doing heavy-usage tasks, would for the most part be idle... I just wanted to make sure there is nothing wrong. I have run scans with no results, but something significant happened during a boot-time scan... when the boot scan was done and the operating system resumed the logon tasks (the computer does not detect temperature during the scan) , the computer's fan started running at full blast, as if it had been overheating, and I had run the scan for at least an hour. I scan regularly, defrag regularly and all that other stuff, the only thing is that sometimes when trying to run full-screen games and Direct3D graphics, the computer will seem to get very warm very quickly on certain times, and other times it will remain idle... my GPU temperature usually stays around 62 degrees Celsius.

Hello, I'm a ThinkPad T430 user, planning to buy a new X1 Yoga (2nd Gen) for daily use. For the screen options listed, "14? WQHD (2560x1440), IPS, 10-point Multi-Touch" and "14.0 WQHD (2560 x 1440) OLED Touch", I tend to go with the OLED version for the better contrast and power efficience efficiency. However, the OLED version is not labelled as "10-point Multi-Touch". Does this mean it only support single-point touch? (or, any number less than 10) Also, can I assume the OLED version also has support for stylus pen as it's the main selling point of this product? In addition, is there a difference between "Intel Dual Band Wireless AC(2x2) 8265, Bluetooth Version 4.1" and "Intel Dual Band Wireless AC(2x2) 8265, Bluetooth Version 4.1, vPro"? If so, what is that vPro thing? Should I choose the option with vPro? Lastly, has everybody installed Linux on such a machine? How is the compability of hardwares, especially touch screen and pen support? This would largely effects my final decison since I mostly use Linux. Thanks in advance.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello all,

I recently bought one of these Y570's and I am more than impressed with the performance it provides. However, I am confused because Lenovo says that the SSD is integrated somehow into the mechanical HDD. I don't really know how this is possible. I would like to eventually reformat this because of the bloatware it came with. However I am unsure which part of the HDD has the OS on it.

When I enter the computer management to see the partitions, I receive this message and this error.

"The driver cannot find the sector requested" - which makes me feel that my HDD is already failing? Someone please tell me this isn't true.

I then look at "My Computer" in which it shows two drives. 1st is the C drive which has windows on it, but the smaller drive has some of the apps that came with this computer as well as the drivers. This leads me to believe that it may be the SSD but the advertisement said the SSD was 64GB's.

I have also attached an image of my disk partitions for anyone who may decide to help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

A:Lenovo Y570 SSD & HDD concerns

There is such a drive. Supposedly it is very fast with out the cost associated with a pure SSD drives.

The C: drive listed is the OS. I suppose the Lenovo labeled drive would contain utilities and the 14gb labeled OEM partition is very likely partition that contains image of your running OS. You do not really need to keep it but then if you do not, you should use some other means to backup your OS.

Hey guys, I have purchased the Lenovo T460p and I am thinking of returning it due to a number of issues. I have not yet received it. It is in the final stages of manufacturing.  1. One of the first reviews of the T460p has reported:'A bigger problem is the temperatures of the processor: Even with CPU load-only by Cinebench, it reaches almost 90 °C (~194 °F) and even up to 93 °C (~199 °F) in Prime95, which results in a slight clock reduction from 3.1 to 2.9 GHz. In this case, the temperature will level off at around 90 °C (~194 °F). When we also stress the graphics card as well as the CPU with the tools FurMark and Prime95, we can also see the effect of the TDP limitation at 35 watts. The latter has to suffice for the processor and the graphics card. The full performance is only available during the first 30 seconds, when the chip can consume 45 watts, before the limitation at 35 watts sets in. The temperature climbs to 95 °C (~203 °F) in this short period. The processor levels off at 2.7 GHz, while the graphics card runs at 900 MHz.'Source: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T460p-Notebook-Review.160923.0.htmlMy question is has anyone benchmarked this laptop and found a similar result. 2. One of Lenovo Support partners on this forum has reported he is able to use a Transcend 128 GB M.2 2242 SATA SSD in the optional WWAN slot. Has anyone confirmed that this type of storage chip is supported in the T460p (market ready model). &nbs... Read more

A:Concerns and Questions About Lenovo's T460p (2016)

I purchased a T460p earlier this month and I can say that I'm very happy with it (apart from a small issue with the trackpad, which should be solvable through a driver update though). I run Windows 10 Home on it and have a virtual machine running Ubuntu for my development work. I haven't put it through heavy computing loads yet but using it normally doesn't heat up the CPU a lot, and the fan is surprisingly silent as well. Compared to my T430 the palm rest doesn't heat up very much at all. Concerning the GPU it doesn't seem to impact CPU much, I tested the 3D performance by playing Crysis 2, which runs smoothly at 1280 resolution without overheating the system. I use a Transcend 512 GB SSD in the WWAN slot, which works like a charm. The battery performance is as advertised, when in energy-saving mode the power consumption can go down to 7-8 W, which gives you about 6.5 hours with the 45 Wh battery and 10 hours with the 71 Wh model. Personally I'd recommend choosing the 71 Wh battery, as you get an additional 35 % capacity for just 16 ? and the weight is almost identical to the 45 Wh model (and the form factor is also identical). The model 0C52862 batteries (e.g. for T440 20B6, 20B7; T440s 20AQ, 20AR; X240) are compatible with the T460p btw and available cheaply online, so no need to buy an "original" T460p battery, which are offered for much higher prices it seems. I'd also recommend to stick with the basic RAM/HDD configuration (4 GB... Read more

The parts list provides no clue.  It talks about a "small" panel, which takes a different bezel and cable and provides no insight into what they are talking about.  You are going to have a hard time finding someone to provide a definitive answer.

Hello. I?ve recently bought Lenovo Ideapad 520, with which I am very satisfied, it has a nice built quality and it works very well, but I have some concern regarding its touchpad. If I compare it with the touchpad on my old Asus laptop, Lenovo touchpad is step-down, when it comes to quality and overall feeling whilst using it. When I press down on the touchpad to click, there is a slight gap, about a millimeter, before it activates a click, this gap is noticeable when I am taping or scrolling on touchpad because it produces a sound, some kind of rumble, which is really noticeable in quiet environments, like the library, and it has become a little annoying, if I'm honest. It seems like touchpad is not fixed to the housing and is a little loose, also I have a feeling that clicking is not uniform on the whole surface. Now my question is, is this normal and expected behavior of Lenovo touchpads, or did I get a faulty/bad quality touchpad? I tried contacting local Lenovo service and they cannot verify if there is something wrong with my unit, unless I send it to them, which I currently cannot do, so any help here would be greatly appreciated. I?ve found this video from someone having a similar issue, but on a Dell laptop:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkNaAY9YJBc Thanks!

Hi, there. I've bought a UHD Yoga 920 about a month ago. A couple of weeks ago I had a very bad problem with its battery life, 2 hours and dead. But it seems it was a Windows problem, because after some updates, the battery life got better. Still, I let it looping a 40 minutes video and from 100% battery, it died in 6:30 hours (battery saver on and WiFi on). I feel it is not ok. What do you think? Core Temp also shows me 55-60 degrees celsius (130-140 F) and I only have a browser opened, with just some forum tabs, so no video playback, nothing.

Hi everyone,I want to ask yoga 910 owners what is their average CPU temperature? As for me, my laptop is very hot guy, when I do nothing - like now while writing this text with 10 open tabs and almost nothing in background, CPU has t=55C, with  10-15 CPU load. But in my daily work I open Word, Excel, some specific programs, 20+ tabs in firefox and sometimes listenning to music. In this situation CPU load doesn't very high - 40%-50% in general, but temperature rises to 60-70C and could be 90+ in peak. Is it normal? My previous Asus wasn't so hot.PS. I have i7 version with FHD monitor, latest bios in "balance mode" and "better perfomance" in Windows power mode.

This is really wired because 4 of my friends have excatly the same laptop, but they aint getting so high temperatures on idle, normal usage and full load. I feel like something is wrong with mine? A:Lenovo Y50-70 temperature problem

I've had the same temperature differences between my lenovo and some of my friends. So I've looked in the laptop at a few programs that were pre-installed and I've found one of them that controls the heat and how much power your laptop delivers. It's called ''Energy Manager'' In the energy manager there are multiple options to choose from (4 to be exact) 1 means Download mode, which is perfect when you're downloading something of high size but you don't want your laptop to consume lots of power and make noise. 2nd is low performance mode, It's highly recommendable if you're going somewhere but you can't always have your laptop plugged in so this mode enables to make everything run a bit slower for longer battery life. The 3rd mode is medium performance, it only uses maximal performance on the program you're currently working on. And final the 4th High performance mode, it will allow max performance for your cpu and gpu which means higher temperatures.I'm guessing that your lenovo y50's Energy Manager is turned to High performance while your friends got low performance. It makes around 10-20 degrees a difference not that much. I first noticed this when I was gaming and my fps was very slow in comparison to my friend who was playing the exact same game. I hope this helped you with your ''problem'' if you're still getting temperature problems it can be one of those lenovo's that got a bad fan or the enviremont is bad for the lenovo to get enough fresh air. With kin... A:Lenovo Y50-70 High Temperature

Yeah thats quite high, even idle temps.

Few reasons for high temps -
1) Humid/High ambient temp (Ideally should be less than 25 celsius)
2) Improper cooling due to usage. You should not use the laptop on your lap/bed. Ideal way is to use it on a desk with the bottom raised for proper ventilation.
3) Bad thermal paste job.

What you can try -
1) Keep the laptop raised from the surface while gaming.
2) Use air conditioning -- GOOD cooling pad
3) Use Intel XTU to reduce the CPU max clocks and voltage to prevent overheating.

Let me know how much are CPU and GPU temps after these steps.

A:Lenovo Y50-70 Temperature question

Hi Agentaltair47 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

To best answer your query allow me to quote from one of the threads about temperature with regards to performance thru rockykoston.

"CPU temps for gaming are fine as long as they are below 90 celsius.

My CPU temps are between
73-79 for Fallout New Vegas (currently playing) - 79 max
80-85 for Dragon Age Inquisition - 85 max
75-80 for Shadow of Mordor
mostly all other games the CPU stays in the range of 70-75. Inquistion is the most graphics intensive game I am playing.

GPU temps are usually between 75-85 depending on the game.

My ambient temps are higher right now (28-30), resulting in these temps.

In short, your temps are perfectly normal. "

Hello, After upgrading my Lenovo M90 5391 from Pentium G6950 to i3-530 , i find out that the ventilator was at 500RPM all the time even when the CPU temperature goes up to like 75C-80C which is too hot , i dont know if that was the case whith G6950 (i didnt check) but i think it was the same.  So after i install SpeedFan and configure it , it changes the Fan speed from 1000 to 4000RPM (too much)  to keep the processor at like 30C-40C. So my question is if there should be any program or driver from Lenovo for regulating the speed of CPU fan ? I freshly installed everything like 2 weeks ago and maybe forgot to install something?  or is it normal to be at 500RPM all the time no matter what.

Hello I have bought recently a Lenovo Ideapad 310 and I am having difficulties to get informations about the operational temperatures limits in of the computer. I have searched in the computer's manual and found nothing about the maximum temperature its thermal zones can reach normally.  One known information comes from the Intel's specification page of the Intel® Core? i3-6100U Processor, which says the maximum temperature it can reach is 100°C. I tried to find on Windows 10 some additional information, but I have found none. I have installed Xubuntu 16.04 on side of Windows 10. On Xubuntu 16.04, I could find information regarding the thermal zones of the notebook. When looking for informations regardings its limits, I have used the command:cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_0_tempand its output was75000So, looks like the thermal limit of the thermal_zone0 is 75°C.  But there additional temperature sensors. Some of the HDD, some of the processors themselves and a "Physical id 0" which is different than the "thermal_zone0", as it can be seen here. The processors limit are 100°C and the thermal_zone0 limit is 75°C, is this correct? Which one of the sensors is the most important one? If all of them are important, how high are its limits? I want to use this notebook for a long time and do not want to melt it. Thank you.

Hi I hope somebody here can solve this problem for me with the high CPU temps. I'm getting quite high temperature readings on my computer. When I turn on the machine and run application the temp goes to 60 or sometimes 70 which seems to be very high seeing as the max is 100 degrees Celsius. So tell me is this temp normal? and what other program is trust worthy to install and compare this issue?

Hello!I've got some problems with my laptop. Everytime I open a game (or even YouTube), my GPU's (AMD R7 M265) temperature goes from 0 to 90 degrees C in almost 2-3 seconds. If i don't close the application, the temperature goes over 105 degrees C and my laptop shuts down to protect himself. I've updated the video drivers, I've reinstalled and even downgraded them, without any success. I've cleaned my laptop 1 year ago and replaced the thermal paste too (but i really don't think this is the cause). I tried the diagnostic tool from Lenovo's website, and when it reaches to test the video card, the GPU temperature goes over 106 degree C and shuts down.Any ideas? Thank your for your time!

Dear Lenovo Forum, I own a Lenovo X1 Carbon 4th gen. notebook, that I really like, but recently I have some issuses with it.I found that the bottom part below the screen is too hot. While the room was 23°C,I measured 44°C in the inside when the notebook was idle (on the outside it was 38°C when the notebook was folded). At the cooler where the heat leaves, I measured 31°C.My question is what the normal temperature of this below-screen part on X1 Carbon 4th is.I'd also like to ask if the repair of this issue is included in the warranty.I remember that previously I did not experience this problem.I'm enclosing the photos about the temperatures I measured.Thank you in advance. Kind regards,Tibor Szabó

Disclaimer: I received the Yoga 920 as a review loaner unit from Lenovo. All opinions are my own, nobody is paying for my review, and no one is reviewing this content before it's posted.

Left: Yoga 920 in Bronze. Right: Yoga 910 in Silver

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

The Yoga 920 also has a little slit on the display lid that makes it much easier to open the lap... Read more

I recently did a Windows 10 update to my Lenovo Yoge Ideapad  11 S on July 16th and now my touch screen does not work. When I check the drivers for my monitor and touch screen I noticed the driver was missing. I cannot get Lenovo or Microsoft to fix this. What else can I do to get that driver back ?

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

A:Yoga 720 Lenovo boot logo. Is there a way to change it? (should be the same for every new Yoga).

I do not know of any way to easily change it without hackging the BIOS, nor would I waste time trying to do so since it is just the boot logo, and I am just happy to have it boot up.

I have some problems with the Lenovo software. Lenovo Account Portal does not launch Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Also, Lenovo Solution Center is missing from the Start Menu. The second problem is that some tiles are blank in Start Menu. Seemingly it's the apps that aren't Metro. I'm not sure when the problem started, but I think it was like that since I got the PC. If I right click the apps, the only option will be "Pin to Start", and with some apps: Share and Rate. Here's a picture of the problem:I did already try:Restarting the PC.Doing scannow, DISM, and scannow again.Fixing Registry errors with CCleaner.Updating BIOS and drivers. What can I do to fix the problem?

My son accidentally got his leg caught in the cord of his laptop when he got up and the laptop  fell approximately 2 feet to the tile floor.  It boots up but stays on the Lenovo splash screen.  If I go into the BIOS and select System Recovery it goes through the "Loading files..." process, the Lenovo splash screen appears with the dots going in a circle but, then after about 2 minutes of that the screen just goes black.  If I tilt the screen forward or back I can tell it is still backlit just with nothing to display.  Anything we can try?

New Yoga 700-141SK: Ran the Lenovo Support Center Hardware Scan and the Video Card Mathematical Operations Test has failed rendering the Report: WVC007002-UL7BPL. Is there a tried and proven solution out there? I have had a look at the solutions on the forum and am not satisfied that the solutions offered prove that the problem has been resolved. It is reasonable to expect Lenovo to make available a solution as a matter of course instead of end-users of "afflicted" Lenovo devices having to request/search for a solution(s).

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

I bought the Lenovo yoga 900 in December as i was about start medical school, now after only about 6 months of use, while i was using it one evening, i decided to take a break from school work, when I got back to my computer it had powered down and tried to reboot but didn't make it pass the Lenovo screen, i tired exhausting the battery power and trying it again but to no avail. so my question is has anyone had this kind of problem before and if so what is the solution? Also is this a common problem and how long is the company warranty for my 6 month old computer, in case i need to give it back to get something more reliable, its kind of disheartening as i had believed this was the best decision i made for medical school, but now am left with the possibility of failing the semester due to faullty equipment. SOOO PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME SAVE MY SEMESTER. Thnak youjay

A:Lenovo Yoga 910 wont load pass the Lenovo screen.

Try getting into BIOS first and loading default settings. To do this, press the small "Novo" button (you'll need a paperclip for this), and select "BIOS setup". From there, use the arrow keys to get to the "exit" tab and select load default settings.

If this doesn't work, let me know.
