My computer is lagging randomly and running slow!

Q: My computer is lagging randomly and running slow!

Hello

My computer has been running very slow lately and lagging when i I am watching videos on youtube. I looked at the programs I'm running in task manager and saw that something called svchost.exe has been taking up the most memory (40000 or so) when everyhting else is around 20000. Anyways, I ran a DDS scan and a GMER scan. But while running the GMER scan, I got a BSOD saying that a file "pxpdakod.sys" was the problem. Here is my DDS scan:

Preferred Solution: My computer is lagging randomly and running slow!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

Below is the HJT Log, could someone please review this. Most of the downloaded programs (O16) on my log are not showing up on my add/remove list. The only program that I still use is Ofoto. If they are not showing up on my add/remove list, then how can I remove these from my computer?

Also, on my add/remove list there is a "BUM" ... I'm not sure what this is and have not seen it on there before. Could someone tell me what this is and if I should remove it?

My computer runs extreme slow and I end up rebooting two/three times an hour. Sometimes there is a lag every few minutes. Most of the time when I reboot my computer I lose my internet connection and need to unplug my cable modem and if that doesn't work, then I reboot again till I get my connection back.

If there is additional information needed, please let me know.

Thank you for your help.
Lisa

I have a couple questions about my PC. Lately it has been acting really retarded (For lack of a better word,) mainly it will do things like cause my VLC player to run VERY slowly (So that audio and video slows down and gets choppy i guess you could say) and this is with only It and the bare number of services running (to my knowledge) Also, i have been getting Access violations and "The memory at Blah blah Cannot be read" when i play Starcraft 2 (Something else that has never happened before)

My specs are listed in the "My Specs" Section of my profile thing, i use the Free version of Avast for A/V and AUSlogics boostspeed for general performance increase (Faster and more efficient HDD and Registry defrag, Optimization tools, etc etc)

So my questions are as follows;
1.) What could be causing these problems? Windows updates?
2.) What is the best way to check my computers overall performance or find out where the crap my CPU's power is going and what is using up all my Ram?

I have 55 processes open as of writing this, CPU is at 100% (Prime95 is taking up 85+ Percent, saw it on the Starcraft Forums, says it is like a stress tester or something..)

Welcome

Run a full and updated anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes
If positive report back
If negative,
Test with a clean boot
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If all that does not help, test memory

Download memtest86 and test RAM

www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Run for 8 passes
Ifit passes try a good stick in each slot for 3 passes
Ifit fails do the same for 8 passes.

If it works OK in safe mode
Soluto may give the answer
http://www.soluto.com/About/

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/81176-speed-up-performance-vista.html

These should be the first steps that are taken. If everything proves negative, I would go with full malwareware testing with one of our experts.

Hi
About 3-4 weeks ago I formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows XP, because my PC was starting to really slow down to sometimes frustrating speeds (It had been about 2 years since I've done it)

Now I'm finding that once again my computer is running slowly, pretty much the same as how it was before I reinstalled Windows.
I have a small variety of scanners and anti virus/spyware programs (AVG 7.5, CA 2007, Adaware SE Personal), however they haven't been picking up much at all besides tracking cookies.

I DID pick up a couple of Trojans with AVG, titled KillAV.exe or something of the likes (I've deleted them out of the vault, so I can't really get the name for you)
Apart from that, I haven't picked up anything (except CA Anti-Spyware is picking up uTorrent as a high-risk Trojan, even though I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, deleted it, downloaded it again, installed it, etc - It's never been targeted before)

Sooo, I'm not sure whether or not this is a virus problem.

Basically the troubles I'm having is that sometimes various applications will take longer to load than they should, sometimes up to 30 seconds to open.
One example that stands out is occasionally when watching multiple videos in a row with Windows Media Player 10 (eg. 25 minute episodes), the first one will run fine, but the second one will lag and stutter (the video, not audio), so I need to close WMP, and reopen it with the new video.
Also, sometimes w... Read more

As said, my computer has began to experience higher than normal pings and has began to restart or crash upon start-up in normal mode. In safe mode it has not done this when I have tried.

I'm using a Windows 32-bit edition and a fleeting pop-up message before it restarts comes onto the screen but disappears too quickly to read it. After it restarts there is a "winlogon.exe error", though it seems strange that it would do this up to 5 times before staying on the desktop successfully for more than 5 seconds.

Alright, so for no reason a week or so ago my computer starts randomly lagging, most notably when playing GTA IV. At first I thought it was the game so I re-downloaded and installed it, (I had some errors anyway).

While I was downloading it from GameStop I would minimize the window and switch users, then log back in to check the status, I could never get the window to restore, so I had to force the process to end. Twice my computer blue screened on me, my computer has never done this before or since.

I haven't installed any new hardware, or updated any drivers (myself), I did a full system scan and Norton didn't find anything. I also did a full system scan with Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool, it found 4 infected files and removed them.

The one thing I did do (I think before I noticed any lagging) was an optimization, cleaned and defragmented the registry, cleaned and defragmented the HDD among other things. My hard drive was heavily fragmented, I don't remember what percentage, but it was a lot.

Still the same problem, so I upgraded Win 7 to Win 7 to re-install the OS (without touching my files) to see if that would fix the problem, and it didn't either.

So I checked Task Manager and this shows up as being the culprit, "NT Kernel & System" can take up anywhere from 20-30 to 40-50% of my CPU. Sometimes it's where it's suppose to be, between 0-3%, I would use KrView but unfortunately it only works up to XP SP1.

I'm getting tired of t... Read more

A:Computer Keeps Randomly Lagging (NT Kernel & System)

Okay, well While I was playing GTA IV the lagging thing started again, I think I found the driver within the nt kernel and system process that's causing the lagging.

This is the driver: stdriverx64.sys+0x5160, I think it has something to do with the Realtek audio. So I'm going to update the driver to the latest version and see what happens.

My computer randomly lags and I'm geting a blank page when i click on any google search links
Correct me if I forget to attach anything, this is my first post and I am getting very desperate.
A few days ago, I contracted some viruses. Right now my computer is OK except for a few things:
About 15 minutes after I turn on the computer and have multiple programs running, there's a random lag that starts happening. Everything starts to slowdown, and it becomes almost impossible to do ANYTHING. If I go into taskmanager and end the svchost.exe proccess with the highest mem usage, everything goes normal for about 10 more minutes before the lagging comes back.
Another problem I'm having is when I google search something and click a page, a blank page comes up, but with the url as the title and the url still in the address bar.
I'd really rather not have to reformat, by the way.

For some reason it won't let me post the txt that I'm going to attach it as DDS.txt
Sorry.

A:Computer slow.. Browsing pretty slow.. browser loads lagging.. help me pls

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.    Scan with FRST in normal modePlease download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool to your desktop: FRST 32bit or FRST 64bit (If not sure: Start --> Computer (right click) --> properties)Run FRST. Hi,

I am using an HP dv6338se laptop.

AMD TurionX2 1.8 GHz
2GB RAM
Vista Ultimate SP1

Very Recently, explorer.exe has been running at an extremely high CPU, even up to 100% CPU. I uninstalled most of my programs, certainly any such as Limewire, uTorrent, etc, and any other that I have installed recently. It has not changed anything. I have run scanners from AVG and TrendMicro to remove any problems, but they havent turned up anything special. Here is my Hijackthis log. I hope someone can help me. Thanks!

I read that defragmenting the harddrive can lead to faster access times, i tried it, but it has not helped. i am sure it must be some bad programs or something. Umm... I cant think of anything else to add.. except that im fairly technical with computers, and im surprised i havent been able to fix it this time.

I've tried to follow the guidelines for posting logs... i hope it did it correctly...

Hi,

My computer seems to be running slow! So annoying, especially lagging when i'm watching clips or editing. I actually have 1GB of RAM so i'm just wondering if i'm running too many programs because surely that should be sufficient for what i do. I usually fill up my HD actually, but even after getting the space back it still seems slower then it should be. I do a lot of movie editorial work so i need the space!

My Computer Specs:

AMD Athlon XP
950 Mhz, 1.00 GB of RAM
(Partitioned HDs)
Z:/ 120GB
C:/ 40GB

In my HiJack log i see a lot of Panda Antivirus stuff, but i don't use this program anymore and i've uninstalled it, yet there are still bits of it on my computer it seems...

Let's remove Panda completely first to see if it alleviates the problem. Make sure you install another antivirus program back though because as of now, you have no antivirus program running...

Download this file and save it on your desktop. Double click on it to run it and follow the directions...that should uninstall Panda completely.

I'm not sure what's been happening lately, but my laptop has been running kind of laggy and slow. My specs are as follows:

Windows XP SP2
Intel Pentium M
1.60Ghz
1.12GB RAM
30GB HD (19.1GB Free)
Software: Avast! AV, Comodo Firewall

I initially thought that my computer would only slow after I started Trillian, but I tested this (by not starting Trillian), and it seems it will still slow a few minutes after a restart. Restarting my laptop seems to solve this problem temporarily.

I have run the following programs to test out any problems, but they all come back clean:

Chkdsk
Defrag
Avast virus scan
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft Ad-Aware

Keeping it in safe mode (I'm posting in Safe Mode w/ Networking right now) seems to also keep the problem at bay.

Help?

Thanks!

Hello im having problems making my computer run at normal speed. It has been running slow for awhile now but recently VERY SLOW. It takes forever to boot up and any program I open also takes an eternity. Once the program is running it works fine.
I have scanned the computer w/ norton, malwarebytes anti-malware and spybot.
I removed all the harmful files. Spybot seemed to make it run slower.
In the task manager the CPU usage is at 100%. There are about 80 processes when I boot up the system.(seems like a lot)
I uninstalled a bunch of programs I never use to free up some more space and I also tried restoring it to an earlier date.
I gave it the newest updates for windows.
I deleted all the programs I dont need from the start up.
Today I tried running Malwarebytes' anti-malware today and it TIMED OUT!! taskmanager said program was unresponsive.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Do I have to wipe my hard drive??? Please help!!! It is a Sony VAIO laptop.

A:My slow lagging computer

<<I removed all the harmful files.>>

That seems to always be a presumption...by those who get infected. Of course, it's not necessarily true but users seem to like to say/believe it.

I guess that I have to ask...was your system infected?

Any error messages during this troubled period?

Hello,

I am trying to help out my mother on her computer and considering you guys helped me out on mine, I figured I should come back.

Anyways, the problem with this computer is it has a lot of junk files, folders and things on it, yet I am not sure which files and folders are needed and which are not. Along with that problem, we have the bad lag. Sometimes it takes quite a few minutes to load Windows itself as well as programs.

My mother runs a eBay business and enjoys downloading games and music, so I know that is some cause of the slowing down of her computer.

Attatched is a Hijack This log.

Thank you in advance.

Run tdss killer from http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684
let it cure anything it fnds ( except SPTD.SYS or anything detected as UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic, which should be ignored) & then reboot
post back with its log
By default, the utility outputs the log into system disk (it is usually the disk with installed operating system, C:\) root folder.
Logs have names like: UtilityName.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.
E.g. C:\TDSSKiller.2.4.7_23.07.2010_15.31.43_log.txt

First of all I'm blaming it all on ram since this computer only has 256mb. But anyways it used to be a lot faster (by a lot faster I mean it didn't take 10 minutes to boot up and load everything). I would understand it if I installed a lot of things, but the thing is I barely installed anything and even at that, I didn't install any high memory consuming programs, all I have is basically a kodak program, avast and some hp software. So out of the 40gb I still have like 33 free.

I have scanned with every program I thought off and find no adware/virus/trojans etc. But I still feel there's something not right.

Can anyone tell me if this Hijack log has anything strange. On other news the comp doesn't have the dvd rom installed either. It's not installed in the hardware manager and it obviously doesn't show on the "My computer" tab. It was working when the comp. came out the package, so that's another reason i'm suspecting something gone wrong. Tried deleteling the upper and lower filters and still no dvd rom recognition. I'm going to run a Registry cleaning tool... any recommendations on this?.

So anyway:

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 (7548) which has i7-5500U, 16gb RAM, AMD Radeon R7 M265 4GB.

Problem I'm having is that the laptop is laggy and sometimes freezes.

I've noticed the disk usage sits at 100% most of the time.

I've just upgraded it to windows 10 in the hope that windows 8 was causing the issue but it has stayed the same.

Any help with this (as it makes the laptop slower than my 5 year old laptop which I replaced) would be greatly receieved!

Thanks!

Whenever I connect external monitor or TV via HDMI the computer is slow/lagging (even moving windows or doing a right click is slow).I tried to isolate the problem and it seems to happen only when I use "Second screen only" or when the laptop lid is closes, if the lid is open and I use "Extend" or "Duplicate" everything's fine. Also, if I do reset while the monitor is still connected, it's working ok (but this is not a good solution for me as I want to keep the work evniornment).I tried playing with Display settings but nothing seems to help, maybe the community can please help me?

ok so I may have picked up a CICERO virus a few weeks as and now my computer is running like total *&^%$#@. I'm having script errors popping up (internet explorer script error, CCSvcHst and ccApp errors), when I shut down it seems like so many things are running and "end program" prompts show, my flash player .exe wont allow me to view content. it takes like 2 minutes to even open a new internet window, programs take forever to open and the entire system is sooOOO slow and skipping, and lagging like its just bogged down (not to mention that I just got a new itouch and I cant even get to itunes to sync it because it thinks the itouch is a flipp'n camera???...in my ineffective attempt to fix any of the problems I've run cleaners, malware scans etc but nothing seems to do anything.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I just got my computer back from my IT department. They reformatted it because they needed to change something in the network start-up script. It now runs at about 1/4 the speed it used to with start-up times runing 7-8 minutes on average. Also, half the stuff I try to run just randomly crashes. Any ideas?

Hello,I recently installed software that apparently contains malware. My computer's symptoms include a little slow on startup, after use of more than 30 minutes the computer becomes extremely slow at doing anything (looking at My Computer in Windows Explorer takes 5 minutes), it freezes (especially Firefox and Windows Explorer) and, in one incident, the computer failed to wake up from sleep mode (lights reactivated but screen was "off" [not black, "off"], no response, repeated attempts to wake it up failed). I have since uninstalled the software to see if it would make a difference, and it has gotten better, but I'd like to make sure that there is no residual malware left over - or if I have spoken too soon.Attached is the Attach.txt and Ark.txt that is required by the preparational page. Also, here is the contents of DDS.txt:

So this has been happening ever since I got my computer. I took it in to see if a service could take a look at it and they ran a benchmark to get the usage to 100% for like 22 hours. Computer was still running fine he recommended me to get a UPS because it could be browning out but that solved nothing.

So what basically happens is that once a week or 3 times a day, it happens randomly, could be while playing a game or just browsing the web. What happens is that the monitor just freezes it is still on it is like a screenshot of my screen it stays still, cursor stops, audio stops, everything. The computer is still running fine it could be a failure in hardware but most likely not. It is not the monitor itself because it worked fine with the same monitor with my previous computer and I just got a new monitor last week.

I also noticed is if it happens once then it'll happen a few more times in a day then it'll stop for 1-2 days and start again, could just be a coincidence but I don't know...

Thanks, Alex.

Hope to get this solved starting to annoy me!

A:Screen Randomly Freezes but Computer Still Running?

Check your connections to your PC/GPU and your monitor, however you have it connected. Make sure that there are no bent pins and that the thumb screws are hand tight plus a quarter turn. Then make sure you have the latest driver for either your onboard GPU or add-on GPU.

My computer recently started "shutting down" randomly. However, when it shutsdown, all the fans and power seem to still be running while the monitor goes into standby mode. I then have to force the computer to turn off completely. Sometimes, the computer would shutdown during the bootup stage or not start at all. I've noticed the light on my CD drive goes orange whenever this happens.

I have an AMD Athlon 2800
Radeon 9700
512 single stick of ram
400w power supply.

I have already tried replacing the power supply.
Any suggestions.

A:Computer randomly shutsdown, but fans still running

It might be a thermal shutdown, i.,e., cpu is running too hot. Make sure the fan on top of your cpu is running and there is no blockage or impairment of the air being sucked in by this fan. There is usually a separate air duct to the outside the case for this fan.

You might try opening the case, removing this duct and then running the computer with the case open. See if your problem goes away.

My Problem
Hi, I've been using a custom built gaming computer for the past year or so and have encountered no problems until now. Recently I will get this issue where while I am gaming, idle, or just browsing the web my monitor, keyboard, and mouse will shut off. All my fans lights and what not are still running on my computer. The only way to turn the computer off is with the power button. Also, sometimes to computer will not reboot right away and will take 5-30 before working again.
What I've tried
1- I checked all my cords made sure nothing wasnt plugged in.
2- I clean my computer often with compressed air so dust isnt a problem.
3- I checked my RAM, its fine.
4- All my drivers should be up to date.
5- I don't think its a over heating issue, I have pleantly of fans, and because of this I put my CPU speed down to 2.9 ghz instead of 3.5
6-Checked the GPU's fans, plug ins, and drivers and everything is fine.

My Computer Specs
CPU: AMD FX-8320
GPU: Radeon HD 8750
PSU: Corsair CX600
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-MLX Plus
RAM:Corsair Vengance 8GB 2x4
HardDrive: Barracuda 2TB

A:Computer Randomly shuts off, but hardware is this running

Try replacing the power supply with another one for testing purposes...
