Preferred Solution: I need a problem \Windows cannot find '{my profile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Windows Powershell\Windows Powershell.lnk'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is a thread with this same problem but it is closed.

i have a thumb drive and when i attempt to view the files by double clicking, i get this message:
Windows cannot find "oWNer.Exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
i can however right click and explore it.
How can i get this drive to work right? i have looked at other thumb drives and can not find the exe file on them so why does mine ask for it?

Hello
Due to a file server migration, the path for the redirected  "Documents" folder will be changed to the new server or rather to the new DFS Namespace.
All the users have shortcuts to the last opened documents in their personal folder

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent.
After the Migration, all these links Pop up with an error, because the won't find the linked files.
I  tried to change the path in every Shortcut with a powersehll file, but it's not working because of the permissions in this specific folder called "Recent". The script is ok, it'll work in any other directory.

Does anybody know, how to adjust the security in this Folder or how to change the path of the shortcuts in this Folder?
Thanks in advance

Hello, and Welcome to BC

One should never edit the Windows System Partition in the registry as you have already found out. Can you tap F8 and at the Advanced Options Menu select Last Known Good Configuration? If that does not work can you do a System Restore to just before you changed the registry. Tap F8 at boot. Select Repair My Computer and then System Restore from the options.

I'm getting that error at start up, also windows can't find c:\documents, settings\username\applications, data\adobe\manager.exe

After each one goes up for each missing piece. it comes up with another pop up saying "Could not load or run (program\folder) specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.

This showed up after a smitfraud-c infection that i'm pretty sure I've eradicated.

Hi TSG

This is my first post as I have never had a problem with my system before

I have recently uninstalled AVG Tuneup from my computer. This allows me to disable start up programmes such as Skype or Bittorrent, but now that i have uninstalled Tuneup I get an error message which reads "windows cannot find...make sure typed name correctly" on all the previously disabled programmes

My antivirus shows nothing and there are no other problems with my system

I ran a system file checker and here are the details;

Even my AVG Tuneup Utilities also.
I tried System restore and sfc/scannow also but no luck !
please help me

A:Windows Cannot Find Notepad.exe make sure you have typed correctly.

Does C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe exist?
Check the path environment variable, make sure

C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem

are included in it.
Right click on This PC
Select Properties

Click on Advanced System Properties on the left

On the Advanced tab, click on Environment Variables
Under System Variables, scroll down to Path
Select it (Path) then click Edit

An easy way to look at all of it is to right click on the highlighted Variable Value field and select copy, then start Notepad and paste the data into there. That way you can easily look at all of it.

It's also a lot easier to make changes in Notepad then copy and paste the changed data back into the Path Variable Value field.

Hello everyone. I joined the forum today and hope you can help me out. On my work desktop I am running Windows 7 and I want to upgrade PowerShell version 2.0 to 4.0 as a minimum or 5.0. I've read many articles on fixing Windows PowerShell issues but my case seems to be a little different.

To begin, I have the following prerequisites on my computer:
Windows 7 SP1
.NET 4.5
Here is the list of all .NET versions on my computer:
v2.050727 2.050727.5420 SP2
v3.0 3.0.30729.5420 SP2
v3.5 3.5.30729.5420 SP1
v4
Client 4.6.01055
Full 4.6.01055
v4.0
Client 4.0.0.0

The version of PowerShell that I have access to is 2.0. When I try to install Windows Management Framework 4.0 (x64: Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu) I get the following message: "Update for Windows (KB2819745) is already installed on this computer." but when I look for it in "View installed updates" or "Uninstall or change a program", it doesn't show up. I've done searches for it on my computer and came up empty. Powershell does not show up in my "All Programs" list, Program Files / Program Files (86) or its Common Files, or in the local or roaming user files. The only place I see remnants of it such as the powershell.exe file is within C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-powershell-exe_31bf3856ad364e35_7.3.7601.933_none_3989ef6dcae7e4a9 and a few other folders like it within the winsxs directory. Hi,

I'm receiving this error when executing some executables: "Windows cannot find "[name and path of the executable (.exe)]". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".
I may understand receiving such error if I were executing a "bad" shortcut, but in this case, I'm directly launching it from windows explorer. Since I'm not receiving that error for all my programs, I suppose there might be an issues in the registry or somewhere else.
I then reinstalled the software, and got the same error.
I tried launching it inside a freshly created account and I got the same error.

Here are more details about my setup:

* Windows 7 pro 64 with all updates
* AMD 3800+ with 4GB mem
* Executables: "steam.exe" ; "googletalk.exe"
* Hard drive SMART status OK
* ZoneAlarme security

I'm also using smart defrag, tuneup utilities and Ccleaner to optimize my system. I hasn't made any changes manually in the registry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Windows cannot find "...". make sure you typed... error

I would not run TuneUp utilties or otherwise tweak Win7 beyond normal system settings. It will not tolerate it and causes many problems. No one here recommends Zone Alarm that I've ever seen either.

It makes me think you might benefit from the Best Practices given here to obtain and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail.

In this case you may have a Default setting which has slipped. Check in Control Panel under Default settings.

If it persists and no one else has better help then I'd run SFC -SCANNOW Command
or a Repair Install

Hello Technet,
i recently tried to make use of this fine powershell module to manage some windows updates on the clients: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/2d191bcd-3308-4edd-9de2-88dff796b0bc

I downloaded and installed it, but the "core cmdlet" get-wuinstall immediatly stops after executing the command.
When I run "get-wuinstall -verbose", I see "Connecting to Windows Server Update Service server. Please wait..."

This won't go away.

When I run the same command with the -debug switch instead, I get this:

I thought to myself, maybe the Windows Update Service is not ready, so I ran the get-wuServiceManager command, but from what I can tell, this looks good:

Any Ideas why this module won't work? I've also been trying to put this question in a more appropriate forum section, but coudn't find one that specifically was for powershell questions.
thanks for reading and have a good time
regards
Martin

Hiya

The Windows PowerShell 1.0 MUI Language Pack runs only on MUI versions of Windows, in which the Windows interface can be displayed in multiple languages. It displays the Windows PowerShell 1.0 interface in Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. For detailed information, see Knowledge Base Article 926141.

The MUI Language Pack does not include the Windows PowerShell 1.0 program. If you are running a MUI version of Windows, first install an English-language version of Windows PowerShell 1.0 and then install the MUI Language Pack for Windows PowerShell 1.0. For information about the installation packages for the English-language versions of Windows PowerShell 1.0, see Knowledge Base article 926139.

Each version of Windows PowerShell 1.0 is associated with its own version-specific MUI language pack. The MUI interface works properly only when you have installed the same versions of the Windows PowerShell program and the MUI language pack. If you have any other versions of Windows PowerShell 1.0 on the computer, uninstall the MUI language pack and the other version of Windows PowerShell 1.0 before installing the new version and the new MUI language pack. For details, see Knowledge Base Article 926141.

You do not have to restart Windows after installing the MUI Language Pack for Windows PowerShell 1.0.

So I was installing updates with Windows Update when all of a sudden my computer freezes, I had to force shutdown, restarted my computer. Then I noticed the computer froze whenever the update Windows PowerShell 2.0 and WinRm 2.0 for Windows Vista x64-based Systems was installing (KB968930).

So I tried installing it manually from here Download details: Windows PowerShell 2.0 and WinRM 2.0 for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB968930)

Same thing! When the update was installing the progress bar stopped near the end and my computer completely froze!!!

What can I do?? I tried googling everywhere for this problem and I tried everything, it's driving me nuts!!

Thanks

Hello,

Yesterday my laptop was infected with ZDot. I seem to have removed the infection with Norton, but since then, COM Surrogate processes have been opening up and eating my memory to the point of my computer hanging. Closing the processes will give me memory to work with, but then they run again shortly after. Googling suggested running windows update, which I haven't done in forever, but and troubleshooting issues with that, I can't even get my computer to recognize Windows Updates has available updates. Lastly, Windows PowerShell, which I have no idea what it is, keeps crashing.

I'm not sure what to do, but I can't really work on this computer until its fixed. Any help would be appreciated.

Please download RKill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not both of them.

Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.*If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
Do not reboot until instructed.
If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

I have started debugging why TPM information isn't being extracted from laptops to Active Directory. I have checked the numerous scripts from Microsoft that need to be run and all schema objects and permissions within AD are there and seem
to be ok. However, to start breaking things down and find out what is wrong, I thought I would try and emulate the update of msTPM-OwnerInformation manually. So I added this command to a PS1 file and created a scheduled task to be run by a laptop using the
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account against it's own object in Active Directory (using dummy data):

Set-ADComputer "MYLAPPY" -Add @{msTPM-OwnerInformation="abc123"}

However, the attribute "msTPM-OwnerInformation" isn't updated, even though SELF has read/write access to that attribute (confirmed via looking at "Effective Permissions" tab). However, changing the powershell script and running:

Set-ADComputer "MYLAPPY" -Add @{carLicense="def456"}

The carLicense attribute is updated. It also has "SELF" with read/write access so it seems odd only this command works. Is a script running under the "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" account viewed as "SELF" with active directory? Or has
anyone any other pointers as to why one attribute should be updated but not the other via what would seem like the same command and permissions?

Mark

Has anyone ever had the problem when opening a Microsoft Office word 2007 file on the desktop or elsewhere and then receive the message: "Windows cannot find C: (doc)Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Seems to be a compatibility issue with Vista and Microsoft office 2007. I have tried several ways and searched the web and found a few techniques. I have minimized the problem, but it still persists. Odd, because I just double-click on the file which is right in front of my nose. How can it not find the file?I need a solid solution. Thanks for your help!

1. I set up Vista Business on a freshly-formatted hard drive. I then joined my computer to a Windows Server 2003 (SP1) domain and gave my domain user account administrative privileges. 2. I then installed Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and transferred my files and settings from my old WinXPSP2 hard drive to the Vista system using the transfer wizard from the Vista DVD. 3. I then used the add printer wizard in Vista to install network printers all of which worked fine when I printed test pages. The domain installed XP drivers for the printers.4. I then took my system home, resumed from hibernation, and used the add printer wizard to install a Canon ip 5200R inkjet printer using Vista's in-box printer driver and create a standard TCP-IP port for the printer. (The printer has a static IP address on my home non-domain network). When the icon for the local Canon printer appeared in the printers window, the icons for all the network printers disappeared.5. When I returned to the office, I found that I was unable to use the add-printer wizard to add the network printers back to my system. The add printer wizard sees the network printers, but when I select a network printer I receive an error message with connect to printer at the top and the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network."Can somebody help me troubleshoot this?

A:Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to...

I have a network with a PC (XP) with two local printers that I could print to from my Vista Business laptop either wirelessly or on the wire.

I too experienced this problem after installing SP1 (which was a nightmare unto itself) on the laptop.
This "fix" worked for me.

Go into Control Panel
Underneath the Hardware and Sound category, click on Printer
Click on Add a printer from the top menu
Click on Add a Local Printer
Choose Create a New Port with type of port remaining Local Port, then click Next
In the Port Name box type the path to the printer you wish to connect to and Click OkEx. \\mycomputer\myprinterIf the computer you wish to connect to is named Bob and the printer is called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP
In the Install Printer Driver
screen, select your printer from the list or choose Have Disk and find the location of the printer drivers on the computer then click Next and then click Finish.
You should now see the printer installed in the Printers window.
Right-click on the printer and click Properties
On the General tab, click Print Test Page to test the printer.
You should now (hopefully) be able to printer from Windows Vista to this networked printer without any problems.

Hi, I recently fixed my laptop from not booting at all. The problem was, I dual booted my Windows 7 Starter with Ubuntu using a partition, I made another partition to try to allocate more memory to my Ubuntu side and I got an error on boot up that said "Error: Unknown filesystem Grub rescue>". I fixed this and deleted the dual boot but now when I boot up into Windows (as this is now the only OS) on my start menu where it used to say "Default Programs" now says "Default Programs command object for Start menu". I can't help but think this has something to do with the huge mistake I made but I was wondering if there is a way I can fix this?

I've attached an image of what I mean in case you don't understand. I hope someone can help me out. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I have a combination of problems...

Originally, my only problem was that right-clicks in a folder other than desktop caused windows explorer to hang and then crash. So I fixed it using shellexviewer, as was recommended here: Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers.
I disabled a bunch of non-windows contextmenuhandlers, and that seemed to solve it.

After that my start menu "All programs" bar stopped working. It doesn't display anything, and the start menu freezes, and eventually crashes windows explorer. (Also screwed up the start menu search in the same way, but sometimes it decides to work) I tried re-enabling all the things I had disabled with shellexviewer, but the start menu was still screwed up.

I tried using system restore, but the problems are all back, and of course the iexplorer freeze then crash r-click problem is back as well. I don't know what to do...

I should also mention that just before this trouble started, I rebuilt the icon cache because no icons were showing in folders.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 via Parallels on my Macbook Pro.
I create a new VM and use the .ISO file and get the error: "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation."
I found this question was answered here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b1021d66-9774-4b5b-b50b-ad860c5ecc89/windows-8-enterprise-rtm-installation-error?forum=w8itproinstall
However, following the steps of the solution did not work for me. I created a blank VM and chose Windows 8.1. After this, it asks me to insert the installation disc. I cannot figure out how to use the .ISO as the source at this point. I tried copying and
pasting the path to the file and dragging the file to the VM, but no luck.
If there is a way I can install this without this error message or by somehow getting the path to the .ISO that'd be perfect.

Hi,
According to your description, I would like to confirm if you have unchecked the Express installation box.
Be sure to uncheck 'Express Installation' when installing, otherwise Windows setup will fail with an error "cannot find license terms" and get stuck in a reboot cycle.
I suggest you refer to the following link to use Parallels Desktop to install Windows 8.1.
