Error code c0000005 - Not a BSOD

Q: Error code c0000005 - Not a BSOD

I know this sub-forum is normally used for BSOD issues, but I'm not sure if this issue fits in the other sub-forums any better than this one.

For at least a month now, various programs have been crashing with error code c0000005, and I'm not sure how to fix the issue.

I've already run Memtest86 a few times, and I received no errors from the tests I ran.

I've uploaded the latest minidump crash from a program called MusicBee (I no longer have the other minidumps), along with the rest of the files produced from DM Log Collector Tool (HOME-Fri_07_22_2016__12235_99.zip).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been getting the BSOD with the following error code:

Hi, all of your minidumps point to ntkrpamp.exe which is a Windows file. Crashes in that file are usually from faulty memory. Download Mem test from the downloads section and let it run overnight. If you find errors remove one memory module at a time and run the test again to determine which module is faulty.

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have been experiencing BSODs when I save a PDF that I downloaded, save a document as a PDF, or print to a PDF. This began after I installed Adobe Master Collection CS5.5 (no hardware changes at all). Until that time I had never had a blue screen under Win 7. Attached are my crash dumps and the other stuff the instructions said to include. All but one of those dumps came from a BSOD while saving a PDF. One (I can't remember which) happened while I wasn't interacting with the machine, but I had recently saved a PDF. Based on a dump analysis on one of the dumps, I changed my TdrDdiDelay (HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/GraphicsDrivers) to 32, which worked for a few days. However, my latest crash is a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) with an indication that it was caused by an access violation (c0000005).

OS and machine are from fall of 2009. The OS hasn't been re-installed that I can remember. I believe it's an OEM OS.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

* Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause. Yours is 2005.

Please visit this link: Asus tek computer inc. -support- drivers and download p7p55d le

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (notbefore).

If the above corrects your issue you may not need to do the following....

* These crashes may have been caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

If you have Raid update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hello all, I'm new to the forums here as I can normally troubleshoot and problems myself, but I've been having a hard time resolving this issue.

I've recently upgraded my motherboard, processor and RAM to an ASUS Z87-K, Intel i5-4670K, and Corsair XMS3 1x8GB, and ever since I have been experiencing what appear to be video card related crashes. I am using a Zotac Geforce GTX 560 AMP, and a Corsair 750w PSU and did not have issues before the upgrade. The computer will crash to desktop while playing high performance games, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after an hour or two. This results in an event log message like this:

I've been getting this error for a couple of months, over 20 times in all. The two common situations in which it usually happens are:
1) Browsing in Chrome, particularly when there are many windows and tabs open.
2) While computer is idle.
Except for the very first time this happened, it points to file aswSnx.sys, address FFFFF8800????AD1, where the ???? can vary

I attach the SFdebug file.

All of the crashes I saw point to Avast as the culprit. Looking at the module in particular, it's up to date, but it's still the cause nonetheless.

Personally, I wouldn't use Avast. If you have to run antivirus (I don't run any) then use something that has hundreds of millions of engineering dollars behind it. Such as McAfee or Symantec. I know these comments will likely get me a lot of heat, but they're just my opinion.

If you want to post links to some full memory dumps I'd be happy to look further to see if another driver might be stepping on top of the Avast driver. As it is right now, some action in user mode invokes a call to aswSnx.sys (likely through services.exe) which results in an unrecoverable exception.

It's this instruction here that causes the bugcheck:

fffff880`040f7ad1 f30f6f01 movdqu xmm0,xmmword ptr [rcx] ds:00000000`17de0000=????????????????????????????????

Unfortunately the code referenced is paged out.

I'm not really sure what's up with that at all -- the exception just points to a resource conflict of some kind.

Why not go to the card vendor's site and download the latest drivers from there and run the setup off the hard drive?

This happens with most of the games I try to play including but not limited to:

Heroes of Might and Magic V
Dead Island

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

We don't recommend the use of registry cleaners here. There's a pinned topic at the top of this forum that explains why.

The error occurs while msvbvm60.dll is accessing memory improperly.
Does the application crash and go away - or does it stay running and not doing anything?

If the latter, right click on the psFamilyDir.exe process in Task Manager...Processes tab and select "Create dump file". This will generate a dump file that we can analyze. It'll be pretty big, so open up a free account at http://www.box.net, share it, then post a link to it here (so we can download and analyze it). This is only good if the psFamilyDir.exe process remains after the crash.

If not, then I'd suggest uninstalling all of the Microsoft .NET stuff in Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program. Then visit Windows Update and reinstall it (it'll likely be under Optional Updates).

If you have any problems with this, post back and we'll see what else we can do.

Hello and thanks for reading,

I have been having issues playing games with my PC. It does, however, seem to only happen with graphically intensive games. As far as my computer knowledge, I consider myself above average but definitely not an expert. I have read many threads and performed all of the suggested fixes to no avail. I finally decided to post my own thread. I have noticed that most, but not all, of my crashes have the c0000005 exception code. Sometimes I will just get CTD "(Program) has stopped working..."

I have:
Ran sfc /scannow
Ran disc scan
Ran Registry cleaner
Ran driver scanner
Updated all drivers (audio, video, Bios, etc)
Rolled back video drivers to older version
Ran Malware software
Ran Antivirus scan
Tried playing with all background programs closed
Tried playing with all services except microsoft ones turned off
Removed all browser plug-ins
Tried playing with Antivirus/firewall off

And heres the craziest thing, I got so fed up that I even completely reinstalled Windows on my HD, starting new and fresh. Installed my latest game (Guild Wars 2), was able to play a few hours but then...crash. This is starting to make me think its a Hardware issue, or Nvidia's drivers are simply no good.

On the hardware side, I have:
Visually inspected all circuits and connections
Inspected CPU pins
Ran Memtest 86+ on each stick individually, then again with all 4 sticks in overnight. There were no problems detected.

Interestingly enough, when I was doing the sti... Read more

1.After fiddling with some probably virus infected files, lots of programs close with the c0000005 exception error. This is most likely caused by a virus I presume, but its affecting lots of program exes. I assume it is a hacked windows dll causing a buffer overrun, but i'm still very new to assembly and dont know how this would react. I'll post some example errors below.

2.Any program that requires access to the internet is not getting through : I noticed firefox would no longer open any addresses. If I typed in an address that was valid, nothing would happen. If I typed in something invalid, firefox returned a "xxx" could not be found. Any applications wishing access to the internet are not working, I assume my outgoing or incoming UDP has been blocked as well

I appreciate any help on the above problems.

Hi everyone.

I've been strugling with this error in many games for some time. I haven't been able to find a trigger for the faults. A game like The Witcher crashes after 2-3 minutes, Divinity Original Sin worked for 2 hours, but after reaching a certain point it crashes every 5 minutes, Football Manager works without problem unless I go on holiday in which case it crashes after 30 seconds.

I think everything works in fail safe mode, as I was able to play the witcher for approx 10 minutes without problems.

What I have tried:

Memtest86 - no errors
Tried three different video drivers
Reinstalled games
Reinstalled Windows
Probably more, that I can't remember from the top of my head .

The gfx is a AMD 7850 Tahiti LE, which normally is overclocked, but the error persist even when it is not.

I am running a program on two seprate datasets which calls a script in a .exe format. The crash only happens when I try to run on the larger of the two. I have read through many of the c0000005 posts and have run the memory checker (no problems) scannow (no problems) and restored to a point when I thought it last worked. Is this just an out of memory crash? The smaller of the datasets runs just fine. I have not had this error in any other capacity on this machine.

Thank you

On system running XP problem with various applications not starting up (AOL, roadmap software etc.) with display of above error. Have not installed new software. Error occurs as soon as system attempts to start the program. Also it is not possible to uninstall or reinstall AOL (for instance).
Going back to system status as of a week previous allowed at least reloading of AOL. But then then the same problem recurred.

Any ideas for the not very computer literate?
Is it worth trying out one of these services, which purport to find dll errors and fix them?

Any help appreciated.

Hello, I have tried to troubleshoot this machine via remote from my XP system.
The affected system's specs are:

AsRock N68-S3 UCC Mainboard Athlon II X2 250 / 3GHz CPU
2 GB DDR3-1333 Team Value CL 9 RAM

The box was built by a small retail store, OEM Windows Home Premium SP1 POLISH installed by myself.

The system is two weeks old. BSODs have been have been appearing from the outset, 1-2 times a day, with no apparent trigger. I ran the debugger and it reports this:

BugCheck 1000008E, {c0000005, 82d0ebcb, 97653b66, 0}
Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!SMKM_STORE::SmStWorkItemQueue+de )

I don't really know what to make of it. I'm including the files as per the instructions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS. Apologies for the system health report being in Polish, I included it anyway. I am alsoadding the Debug report I made myself.

Hi and welcome
Memory corruption probably caused by a driver. please run these two tests

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hi skbryan.

Configure minidump recording. Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Every time i try to acces the slideshow application in the photoshops elements i get an error warning. Closing Photoshop elements. Adobe Photoshop Elements has encountered a problem and needs to close. Error code C0000005 Address 60cbb311, or 60cbb2fi. Then the program terminates. I have tried repairing the program, uninstalled it and reinstalled it all with no effect. The address numbers change but that's it..otherwise the program seems to work. As long as i don't try to access the slideshow portion. I've also noticed that my Ms Picture it! Publishing Platinum is no longer working either. Tried scanning for virus's and the like, it comes up clean. I have an older pc and its running windows xp. I know that the slideshow part of the program did work at one time but i never really used it besides toying with it until lately..the photoshop program is an older one but i bought it outright, it had never been installed until i put it on my pc. Any ideas or help would be appreicated, thanks in advance.

I'm running Windows 7 Home, 64 bit
Laptop with i7 2.4 gHz and nVidia GeForce GT 630M, 1 GB memory, and 6 GB RAM.

Almost all games do not work on my computer. I've been trying to install a new game, and everything crashes instantly. The installers for each game also crash; some games I was able to install through a torrent or direct download client. However they all crash when I open them. For example, Raiderz, Tera, Dragons Nest, and C9 downloaders all crashed for me. C9 didn't work for me after I had installed it (instant crash with C0000005 error) and it didn't work through steam either (same error). They close instantly, before I am able to interact with the window. Pando Media Booster and Nexon Game Manager also crash with this same error.

I did manage to get Raiderz to work after I direct downloaded a set up and installed that. However, C9 still didn't even after I had installed it.

I've tried changing compatibility modes and running as administrator. I also updated my DirectX and my video card drivers.

Can anyone resolve this issue? Or direct me to a place where it has been solidly resolved? I've been researching this problem all day, to no avail.

Perhaps some games that do work may help: Dota 2 and League of Legends are games I've played recently that will work.

A:internet explorer will not connect to my isp Error c0000005

This sounds most unusual, a lot of problems which might not be related or might have happened at the same time by coincidence. Has a browser other than IE been tried? Have other computers attempted to connect along the same connection?
Skype is simply a video over internet protocol VOIP program, it might increase your bandwidth use quite a bit but shouldn't cause any other issues with general connectivity.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I believe you have a ram problem.

3 minidumps crash with memory corruption, and a bugcheck of 7F.

1 minidump crashes at win32k.sys. It has a bugcheck of 7F.

1 minidump crashes at ati3d1ag.dll. It has a bugcheck of 50.

1 minidump crashes at win32k.sys. It has a bugcheck of 50.

Go HERE and follow the instructions for testing your ram/hdd/page file.

One of three types of problems occurred in kernel-mode: (1) Hardware failures. (2) Software problems. (3) A bound trap (i.e., a condition that the kernel is not allowed to have or intercept). Hardware failures are the most common cause (many dozen KB articles exist for this error referencing specific hardware failures) and, of these, memory hardware failures are the most common.

Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

Hello again, BSOD Forum,

I've been free of frequent BSODs since earlier this year. Recently I must have installed some software or something else must have gone wrong, because the blue screens are back.

Here is what happened earlier this year, in case anyone needs any further context:

Several BSODs following power outage. Varying BCCodes and frequency.

There isn't any specific behavior or action that triggers the crashes. I was listening to Spotify and browsing the internet with Chrome on the most recent crash. Also, I seem to be having trouble installing a security update from Microsoft (Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2892074)). I've tried using the "Update Readiness" tool supplied by Microsoft, but it doesn't seem to be working. It only asks if I want to install some hotfix instead of the security update that keeps failing. Not sure if these two things are related, just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone has had experience with this issue.

Attachment 297074

Aside from that, virus scans have been clear. MSE does nightly scans (I believe), and its definitions are constantly up to date.

Attached are the SF zip files. The last crash I got was a Memory Management error. I will run Memtest86 tonight and post the results tomorrow morning. If anyone sees anything of interest in the dumps please don't hesitate to let me know.

I've always had weird things wrong with my system which I've suspected memory problems, like games that take up a lot of memory would sometimes crash, etc.

I had gotten BSODs before, but RARELY. Now recently, at least once a day I've been getting this BSOD "DRIVER LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO" (something like that).

Here is the exact error I get:

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 0000001c, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 804e163c.

Those above are from 3 separate occasions, all within 2 days. The odd thing is, this BSOD started coming recently. I would get a BSOD maybe 1ce a week at most before, and now I am getting this every day.

Another thing I've noticed is my computer sometimes get sluggish after a restart from a BSOD.. its very odd.

I've run windows debugger on the mini dumps of those crashes and got :

Probably caused by : SCSIPORT.SYS ( SCSIPORT+5974 ) for one of them
Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe for the other two.

It is called a BSOD(Blue Screen of Death) or just Blue screen... you may find that renaming your thread to state that its a blue screen you will probably get an answer. Best thing to start with though, would be to log in in safe mode (by tapping F8 when booting up your pc and choosing to start up in safe mode) then to uninstall the program because it is obviously the cause, what piece of software is it? generally BSODs will be to do with hardware/drivers/things that windows cannot fix on the fly.
There are other users which can give you a definitive answer with this because i am not experienced enough to know how to analyse it...

A:BSOD with no error code

Hello, Annia. I will try to help you. Are you able to boot into the computer at all? Have you tried safe mode? Safe Mode.

Failing that please boot from the installation DVD and select repair my computer on the second screen in the bottom left corner of the screen. This will tell you how. You can use the Installation DVD or a repair CD which you have made. Try running startup repair. You may have to run it 3 times with attempted reboots in between. This should tell you how. Startup Repair

See if either of those help you. If you can start it in safe mode, Please upload the BSOD Posting Instructions http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html.
