Thinkpad S1 Yoga does not enter Sleep Mode

Q: Thinkpad S1 Yoga does not enter Sleep Mode

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode. After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Has anyone else had problems with the X1 Yoga falling asleep? About 1 out of 6/7 times the X1 Yoga will not enter sleep mode - pretty random when it happens. When I select sleep from the Windows 10 menu or close the lid (so this happens both with the OneLink+ dock and when using standalone as a notebook) the computer seems to go to sleep, the displays turn off, USB devices turn off, but then the small led just stays on. It never really enters sleep mode. And there is no way to wake the computer up, just press the power button for 4 seconds and turn it off. Which practically means cold booting again. Usually the last item in the event log is a Kernel-Power event announcing the system is entering sleep mode. Today there are two more events after that, but then just nothing. (this is from the System event log). Really bothersome issue, probably related to Windows and/or firmware/BIOS. There does not seem to be any connection to what the computer is doing. It happens when no programs are running, and also when lots of programs are open. It happens as the fan is on (because the computer is doing something heavy) and both when the fan is off (the computer is idling). It happens while connected to the dock and also while not being connected to the dock. There does not seem to be any pattern to it. Anyone else experiencing something similar? Most drivers are updated to latest version, and BIOS is also latest.

Hi Hello Just got my new X1 yoga, but even after reading the manual, couldn't figure out how to resume it from sleep? Getting it to sleep easy, lid down, windows menu or F4. When I came back to it, the screen is off, the fingerprit scanner has a light, but I cannot manage to get it back on unless i press 1 or 2 times on the power button, and then it resumes. Any other ways to do it?? I'm used just to press any key/mouse, to get it to resume, my old surface was like that. Sorry for the basic question, but the power button sometime takes as long time, as I think it's restarting the computer. Thank you

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga how to resume from sleep mode??

Pressing the Fn key might do it if it has only been in sleep mode for a while, but after a period of time set under the power plan setting, it will go into hibernation mode  to save the battery power (it basically writes the system state to a file called hiberfil.sys, and powers off), and in that case you have to press the power button to resume. This might help too even though it does not explicitly mention your model.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075624 Take Care,

While I like most things about my Yoga 14 notebook, it has this annoying habit of going to sleep about 1 minute, even when it's plugged into a OneLink+ docking station.   I have the OS updated to the latest Windows 10 Creator's Edition and all device drivers up-to-date.   It's done this since I bought the machine earlier this year and I haven't been able to figure-out how to get it to honor the sleep settings in Windows.   Is there a BIOS setting or something that is forcing it to go to sleep after 1 minute?

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... Windows 10 is simply not able to enter sleep mode. Whenever I try, the monitor shuts off, but the computer power does not. When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).

I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):

"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).

Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab. However, the entire tab is greyed out for me. Any help here would be appr... Read more

A:Cannot enter sleep mode

Just something that is not so "high tech ".

1. Use a different mouse if it is a wireless mouse. The wireless mouse might be too sensitive to pick up everything and triggers the computer.
2. Put a mouse pad under the mouse, if you don't use one.
3. Remove/unplug the mouse and see if Sleep mode will commence without interruption.

I have a home built machine running XP Pro. It is a clean installation since had some recent other problems with it and completely formatted hard drive and reinstalled XP. I have added all the Window updates including sp3. I have a GE Force 6200 video card and have installed all the drivers but the machine will not enter sleep mode either manually or automatically (I mention this because I have read elsewhere this was a problem for Vista but haven't seen anything anywhere for XP). I even set the bios to force sleep mode and nothing happened. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

After entering sleep mode, when I hit the keyboard instate of awake it go shut down directly, when I hit the power button the windows show I impropriate shut down.

A:After Enter Sleep Mode, it goes Shut down

First let's make sure your system is fully patched. Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6) then Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional, with reboots, until there are no more offered. This may take a day or more.

Next see if there's an Update for your Display driver on the Sony Support Downloads webpage for your model. This is the first suspect in any Sleep problems. I'd also update any other drivers including chipset if newer are available.

Hi all,

I've been experiencing this issue with Win 7 for a while now, I recently formatted and reinstalled a clean copy of Windows 7. I also made sure all of my drivers worked with my current laptop model, and made sure they were the most recent ones I could get. Finally I've got good protection software, I know as a fact I haven't got any virus or malware, however my problem lies when I set the system to go to sleep.

It doesn't always occur, but sometimes the screen will quickly dim black as it usually does when entering sleep mode, and then it will just hang there, the power lights will stay on, however I don't seem to notice any hdd activity according to the light. IF I let it run, it just seems like the screen stays black, the lights stay on and nothing happens, even after pressing the keyboard or moving the mouse. In order to fix it, I always need to hard reboot, holding down the power button for a few seconds.

Anyway I'm guessing what may be causing this is maybe a driver issue, possibly. Also I've got Hibernate disabled.

My system specs :

eMachines E625 Laptop Computer
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
AMD Athlon Processor TF-20 1600 MHz
4GB of DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon X1200

I think it's worth mentioning also, that I updated the BIOS (Flashed it rather) a few months back. As far as I know I've got the latest version.

I guess what I really want to know is, is there any way I can view system logs for when the system enters sleep mode ? Perhaps next time th... Read more

Whenever I try to put my laptop into sleep mode, it just kind of freezes with a black screen, with the HDD indicator blinking once in a while, then it turns off after a long time. When I boot up, it gives me a 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown' error, and it states that it was a BSOD. I tried looking at the dump myself, but I just got confused. I've got an HP laptop (dv6568se) and lately it has been having issues going into sleep mode. I close the lid, but it remains on and doesn't go to sleep. This started happening around the time I got a base with two fans that plugs into the USB port, could that be the root of the problem? When it booted back up, it gave me this error message:

Folks,

I'm looking for some help here. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. It no longer enters sleep mode on its own. It used to. I can force it into sleep mode by clicking on the Vista Orb and selecting "Sleep". It won't do it on its own - which is what I want it to.

I've run through the Control Panel/Power Mgt troubleshooter on these forums. All my settings seemed to be correct. Using the CMD prompt and powercfg -devicequery wake_armed yields one device: my logitech g15 keyboard. (Using powercfg -a shows that the only sleep state available is S3. That is correct for my motherboard, an Abit IP 35 pro.)

If forced into sleep, the keyboard will wake it up.

The problem, again, centers on the automatic sleep entrance. Currently set for 1 hour of idle.

It seems to me that the machine never thinks it's idle. Is that where I should start? Finding processes which are running in the background?

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi all,

Yesterday, I formatted my hdd and installed a fresh new copy of Win 7 Home Premium 32bit. I installed all of my regular Vista drivers and for the first 6 hours or so my system was fine, I was able to fully enter sleep and hibernate and resume from both states without any problems.

However, It wasn't until the end of the night when I was about to head to bed, that I decided to put my computer in sleep and call it a night. That's when my laptop wouldn't enter sleep mode.

This is what happens :

I press the sleep button on the start menu, the screen then fades to black then nothing happens, it just hangs there, the lights stay on but nothing happens. Then, after roughly 10 minutes, the system will automatically shut itself off. When I press the power button to turn it back on, I get a message saying something like : "Windows did not shutdown successfully". After booting into Windows, I get a message saying : "Windows Recovered from an unexpected Error". And it gave me the minidump BSOD file (please see attached file).

I'm thinking that something, either an application or Driver perhaps is preventing my laptop from fully entering either sleep or Hibernate ?

Like I mentioned, for the first 6 hours or so, I was able to enter and resume from both sleep and hibernate without issue.

I hope someone can help me with this, it's been going on for months now, my laptop is almost a year old and far from being top of the line. However I can't afford to buy a... Read more

Having some problems with bluescreen of death I make a thread here in the bsod forum and I'm adviced to reinstall gfx card drivers. I do. And it seems to fix the BSOD.

After that, things went a bit weird. I'm not 100% sure if the problem is caused by the driver reinstallation, but now sleep mode no longer works.

Previously the computer would enter sleep mode after 30 minutes of no activity. Now it no longer does.

After a fair amount of googling I found instructions on how to run "powercfg /requests". It should apparently tell me what is keeping windows awake, but the only thing it tells me is that a "Legacy Kernel Caller" is blocking sleep mode.

That tells me absolutely nothing. Googling it yields no information either. What IS a legacy kernel caller anyway?

I am hesitant to do any kind of roll back with system restore because of the fact that the driver reinstallation was specifically done to avoid bsods. I don't want to go back to an unstable state.

A:Computer refuses to enter sleep mode

Well, maybe you should start then with double/triple-checking that your gfx card driver reinstall was done correctly, i.e. with the right driver for your machine.

BSODs normally signify a hardware, or a DRIVER problem; maybe you need a different/better driver. I would do a System Restore and then try again with the gfx.

After a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga not resuming from sleep, requiring a hard reboot every time. I made sure to perform the updates in the support article ThinkPad Yoga cannot wake up from sleep mode but those didn't help. The ultimate solution was to downgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface driver to the 9.x version from Lenovo's site. The default Windows 10 installation installed version 11.x of that driver, which apparently causes this issue with failing to resume. (Note that the Lenovo System Update tool does not identify this as a needed update since the Lenovo driver version is older, so you have to download and apply the older driver manually.) After doing this, the system now sleeps and resumes perfectly. Hopefully this can help someone else, and maybe the above support article could be updated to include this advice too.

Windows 7 working fine on my Aspire pc 6 months; past few days, three problems have appeared;
won't enter sleep mode; the display turns black, but less than a minute later reappears showing same desktop programs running
after running an rkill/malwarebytes/superantispyware scan which was negative except for adware, I noticed 2 areas only of the display were flickering rapidly but were still visible; the trash can, and the up arrow on right end task bar which opens up the programs with messages, or just plain active; Windows update appears, flag appears if there's a message. when i click onto one of those program icons, they don't open up GUI
restart, the boot up is interrupted with a black background with 2 options; "Normal Windows 7 start", and "other options" with F8 or F10 showing repair, last safe start, etc. options for starting up. And, both those two options to select are flickering rapidly. if i select Windows Diagnostics, the result of that scan is everything working properly. If Normal start-up is selected, it does continue the normal boot up and works fine...but still won't go into sleep mode. and each re-start is the same; i have to select.
the only changes i recall are the rkill/malwarebytes/superantispyware scan, which i did just thinking good idea, as i'm going to change the Avira antivirus and the firewall freeware, for Norton Symantec 360. After running those scans, that's when i noticed the flickering and boot-up problem.

I just got a brand new HP Pavilion dm4t CTO notebook PC, and when I tried to put it into sleep mode, the system not only failed to go to sleep, it also failed to break the sleep operation when I attempted to "wake it up". This was when the computer was running on battery power; the computer has successfully gone to sleep when plugged in. The power plan tells the computer to go to sleep on lid close whether or not it is plugged in. What should happen is this:
* Display turns off
* Three to five seconds pass
* LEDs for Mute and Wireless turn off
* The round HP logo backlight on the lid turns off
* The hard drive (and fan, if spinning) stops spinning
* Upon opening the lid, everything turns back on and the system asks me to unlock my ID
* I/O devices respond normally

What happens is this:
* Display turns off
* LEDs for Mute and Wireless remain lit
* The round HP logo backlight remains lit
* The hard drive continues to spin. Not sure what the fan does as I haven't let it get to that point yet.
* Upon opening the lid, no status change occurs i.e. everything that was running keeps running and everything that was off remains off, as if the lid were never opened
* Input devices elicit no response

Similar problems were experienced with an HP Pavilion dv3 notebook PC running Windows 7 RTM (Vista upgrade using HP's discs). (The dv3 is close to being retired due to insurmountable hardware problems.)

A:New PC w/ native W7, but system failed to enter sleep mode

I'm bumping this topic because the situation has not improved.

It seems that if the computer is powered on (awake or asleep) when I remove the AC adapter, and then I try to put it into sleep mode while on battery power by closing the lid, the exact events I described in the first post (see "What happens is this:") occur. This is a fundamental flaw that should be fixed.

I have received only those updates that were applied automatically either by Windows Update, by HP Support Assistant, or by individual software items (Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Google Chrome, etc.). My BIOS is the same as it was when my computer arrived: F.15 (I believe it's the same as on HP's webpage).

I have installed the following software on my computer. Perhaps one of these applications is known to cause this problem?

- Microsoft Office Academic Professional 2010
- Trainz Railroad Simulator 12 by Auran
- Sony Vegas Pro 10.0e
- Google Chrome
- ChemDraw Pro by CambridgeSoft
- MiKTeX and TeXWorks (LaTeX typesetting)
- SynthFont MIDI mixer
- Anvil Studio MIDI composer
- Steam Client with Portal 2 and Garry's Mod
- iTunes x64
- aTube Catcher (YouTube downloader)

I have a few computers running Windows 7 and I'm using Homegroup cause it's very useful.

But I've discovered the problem that all of my computers no longer enter the sleep mode (suspend) in idle. There're no problems if I push the button, but never by timeout defined in Power Schema.

I've tried all the group policies like Allow programs to prevent machine from going to sleep automatically, but nothing helped.

Only screen goes black by timeout, but not the computer!

I've even tried from scratch:
1. On clean installed Win 7 I defined sleep-timeout as 2 minutes. Works.
2. Defined network shared folder. The computer didn't go to sleep until any file is opened, but when I close all the files it goes to sleep normally.
3. Joined the Homegroup... and that's all - even when I go to sleep no one of my computers won't! I had to manually push them to sleep, or to pull the network cord off - only in case when network is down (or all the devices are turned off) the computer will go to sleep.

So, are there really no ideas?

Hi all,

About a week ago I ran into this issue:

My machine won't fully shut down and it won't enter sleep mode without crashing. When I boot back up it gives me an error report and said that it didn't shut down properly. I tried doing a system restore to before this happened and it is still going on. I use a Crucial SSD for my OS, not sure if that could be the issue but I've used it without problems for about a year and half now.

Thanks for the help.

I bought a new Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM/Broadwell). Gorgeous machine, but it refuses to wake from sleep on a keypress or click on the trackpad. It will wake up if I close and re-open it. I updated all of the drivers and the bios using Lenovo's utilities and Windows System Update. When that didn't work, I tried updating the Intel Integrated graphics drivers and GeForce drivers with the latest packages from Intel and NVIDIA, downgraded the Intel Management Engine to version 10, and disabled hybrid sleep. No dice. So I resorted to a clean re-install of Windows 10 from a USB key and updated all of the Lenovo drivers (again) using ThinkVantage System Update. "Allow this device to wake the computer" was and is checked in the Device Manager for both the keyboard and trackpad. Is there anything I can do to get it working? Only a couple days left to figure this out before my return period ends.

Long story short, i erased everything and performed a clean install of Windows 10 64bit and the computer stopped shutting down or go into sleep mode. I had Windows 8.1 64bit, i upgraded it to Windows 10 about a year ago, when it first came out. The upgrade went almost fine, some bit issue with the OS but nothing serious, so i went on till i decided, to correct those little issues, to perform a clean install.  So i downloaded the media creation tool, the version with the anniversary update, and erased everything, but keeping the recovery partition. After the install, i started having troubles with entering sleeping mode or shutting down the laptop.I installed the power management driver i found on the site (n1cku04w). With that I can shut down even if it strangely blinks a few times before shutting down. I can enter sleep mode and wake it up properly if I do it from the start menu, but if i close the laptop or try using the power button takes me to a state where OS is sleeping and HW is still awake, so i can't do anything apart from force it off. Strangely too, the driver on the site is overriden from another version i recieve from System Update app. But, with the version from System Update app, i can't even shut it down properly, the OS dies but the HW is still awake and fully functioning leading me to kill it pressing the Power Button. Anybody have faced the same issue? If somebody with the same laptop still has Windows 8.1 can he tell me, someh... Read more

Hello, I recently started having a problem with my laptop where when I attempt to start it up I get an error message that says

LogonUI.exe - Bad Image
c:\Windows\system32\certCredProvider.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media etc.

I am able to exit out of this dialog box and im eventually able to log in and get on but it takes much longer than normal.

I also get the same errors but they have Chrome.exe, skytel.exe, AsScrPro.dll, and DirectConsolee.exe, as the bad image. And in the box it says that PowrPROF.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains etc.
I get the chrome.exe ones while im browsing the internet and they pop up like 5 at a time and are really annoying, but once I exit them I can go back to surfing.

This is probably related to my other problem which is that my laptop will not enter sleep mode when I close the lid. It just freezes with a black screen and I have to reboot.

I did a scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it didn't find anything.

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, and have an Asus G71GX-RX05 Laptop.

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Also I attempted to do a system recovery but that wasn't successful. In fact I think I got more error messages after this :/

. I no longer get errors in chrome. But the other issues persist.

I am using lenovo G580-20150.
I know this problem have been opened a tread but the problem i dont' think it's same so i woud like to ask for some solution after listening to my problem.
I have been user of windows 8 and 8.1 for quite some time.
everything works fine for me for the windows that i currently using , windows 8.1.
including i can put in sleep and wake it as usual.
but ! since past few days i notice that my computer getting weird when i enter sleep mode (for example closing the lid)
it crash... it bsod.

And it occur since the day after i installed somekind of VPN software and wiFI sharing that my friend gave me.
After that day, i can't put my computer into sleep. whenever i do that it keep crash.

at first , i thought lenovo energy management that cause the prob
so i uninstalled... it still makes no different , still i can't put my computer to sleep.
after that i uninstalled the vpn and wifi sharing software, it still makes no different.
But i am very sure that the vpn and wifi sharing software cause the problem.

Because before this everything works fine until that two software comes to my computer. I really need someone that able to analysis the dmp file. TQ

I willing to learn and contribute if i were given the opportunity . tq

Hi Eric & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

Code:

Now, as we can see from the Dump file analysis, "tunnel.sys" has been blamed which is the Microsoft's Tunneling Driver but since it is a component of Windows, chance of it being the culprit is extremely low. This means your guess that the BSOD are caused by the VPN Software.

On checking the Drivers, I found the SoftEther VPN installed on your system. Please uninstall it from the system and see if the system still BSOD's or not.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

When using the Yoga 370, the Autorotate button comes up on the left hand side of the screen, the screen freezes ( I am unable to type any more) and then the thinkpad goes to sleep. I have to wait a couple of minutes, then press the on button and the thinkpad will come back on. I will not have lost any data by this sudden action. But it is extremely annoying when I am trying to take minutes etc in a meeting when I am unable to use my thinkpad for several minutes at a time. This does not happen when I have the thinkpad plugged into an external keyboard. Any suggestions please as to how I can resolve this? Thanks,Caroline

A:Yoga 370 - Auto Rotate comes up and sends thinkpad to sleep

I have not heard of this before.  When this problem happens, are you using the thinkpad in laptop mode, or some other mode (such as tablet, tent, stand)?  Also, I'm a little bit confused what you mean by "the autorotate button comes up on the left hand side of the screen" - do you mean the "Autorotate on" indicator that appears in top left of screen?

I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. The last one IDENTICAL problem 4 days ago: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-260-Does-not-wake-up/m-p/3930549 This is unacceptable, I went to a lenovo assistance and they asked me 750euros to change the motherboard. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO. I would like to hear an opinion from a Lenovo operator reading this forum, if any.

Battery drain in sleep mode is excessive compared to other Windows laptops. Leaving the office with a full charge, not powering on the unit at home, I come in the next day and the battery is 89%. Same scenario over a weekend - Leave the office with 100% charge, come in Monday morning, having not used the laptop and the battery is 78%. This has nothing to do with the fancy OLED or anything - it wasn't turned on. Hope this can be addressed in a BIOS update. I really want to love this laptop but the short battery life compared to advertised specs and the excessive battery drain while sleeping leave me with mixed feelings.

After replacing the LCD screen on my laptop, closing the lid will not force the system to sleep anymore. I ran a scan for new hardware and all drivers are up to date. I have checked all of the power setting and set them to sleep when the lid is closed. I have also check the advanced power settings. I have also replaced the screen hinges thinking there was something in there broken that may be preventing sleep mode from being triggered. I can force sleep by pushing the power button and all other commands so that's awesome but it is driving me crazy that it won't sleep by closing the lid. At this point I'm not sure if it is a hardware or software issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all,
I have an IBM iSeries Thinkpad notebook 1161-43U, that won't come out of "standby" mode. I have an orange battery indication, a green half-moon indicator, and the green power indicator. The notebook won't power up at all. If I disconnect the power AC adapter and then plug it in, I can hear a faint grinding sound and then nothing. I suspect that the main CPU cooling fan is malfunctioning causing a "CPU overheating" condition...

Does anyone have experience with this?

find.pcworld.com/52864 copy and paste that into your browser and that should help.
