Q: Y580 won't start up; very disappointed. What can b...

First off I would like to say that I very much enjoyed my laptop right up until last night. I had the machine since early 2013 and it worked great, best laptop for gaming I have ever used. However I noticed that the last few months the battery cannot hold a charge (for menial tasks) and the fan or gpu was making an odd noise under load. This began to bother me so I took it upon myself to do a battery gauge reset, to see if maybe the battery was just mis calibrated. After this I decided to check the fan and clean out any dust from the vents and inside the fan, as I've noticed it having to work harder than normal under load, and Temps have been higher than normal. I put everything back together, put the motherboard back in, and plugged everything back into the motherboard, but now the laptop won't turn on. What's weird is I have done this a few times before and the laptop has always been fine. This has really bummed me out, I really liked this laptop. Now I don't have a computer to play games on or do anything. I also rely on the laptop for school. I am not sure what to do. I am guessing that the problem lies in the motherboard, and I know the laptop is out of warranty as I have had it awhile. Any idea how much it would cost for a repair like this? I am a poor college student and I don't know that I could even afford a repair let alone a new computer. Why I am frustrated: thing is, about 2 years ago I got a keyboard bezel replacement from Lenovo and sent in the defective one. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to send me a keyboard bezel with the keyboard bolted shut to the bezel, making it nearly impossible to open up the laptop as well as closing back up. It is impossible to reattach the keyboard ribbons to the motherboard without letting my arms touch the motherboard because of how short the ribbons are. It is very easy to rip a ribbon you've plugged in already out of its socket while trying to install another because I only have like 2 inches of space to work with under the bezel. It's possible my arms touching the motherboard caused damage; or possibly the ribbon that is connected to the power button was damaged due to the explanation in the previous paragraph. It could even be a power issue that was pre existing and has finally just completely taken effect. As I said I have cleaned my gpu fans before and the laptop always worked just fine; as cleaning is a necessity for gaming on this laptop--I've noticed around 10 °c difference in temp under load from removing dust buildup, and this laptop already runs hot. Its not so much that I am disapointed with Lenovo as I am frustrated with the situation (especially concerning the keyboard bezel). Lenovo has always had great customer service and this laptop has more than met my expectations. Bottom line is I am not sure what to do now, and I was hoping for some help or advice. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, I really appreciate anything you guys can do for me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased my HP Pavilion g7-2010nr aproximately 3 years ago and the internal fan simply stopped working and alone with it fried my hard drive to the "point of no return" of stored info. I knew that laptops have short lift spans, but specifically bought HP thinking it had the reputation of quality. This laptop was not used but for in the evenings playing games like solitaire and alpha-Betty and to do online banking/bill pay. I do not understand why this happened so soon and am extremely upset about the loss of files, like my pictures, since I did not have them backed-up yet.....didn't think I had any worries yet.  Is this the usual life span of a HP laptop?

@0happy? I am sorry you lost all your data.Regardless of why it happened, losing your important files and all your work is very sad. There are two kinds of people who use computers:People who have lost dataPeople who will lose data Backups help keep the people in both groups from losing all their data.  If the notebook simply failed and shut down due to overheating once or twice, the data on the disk may be OK-Fine.  Take the notebook to a qualified repair house and ask if the data can be saved.  If the notebook appears toasted and you want that data back, take the computer to a qualified tech and ask anyway.  Can't hurt to ask.  If the first tech says "Cannot do it" - take the computer to a forensic data retrieval specialist -- this option can be very expensive and may work. Commentary Three years is an extraordinary amount of time to let pass without having made backups of your important data.  It is inconceivable, really, to never make backups of your most important data when one considers all that can go wrong:  disk failure, dropping the device (causing disk failure), components that overheat, come loose, disconnect, theft of the unit, drowning the computer in water, leaving the computer in a hot car, a frozen car, having the unit stepped on... Any vendor computer can fail - at any time, for a multitude of reasons, some of which are accidental, others having to do with long term use, lack of mai... Not really, but I asked a question about a compressed zip folder and the one feed back I got seemed too hard for me to handle so I'll try it again. I created a compressed zip folder to keep my files private because with a compressed folder you can put a password on it.It all was working fine 'till for some stupid reason I dragged and dropped my password protected compressed zip folder into another folder with out removing the password first.I've tried every thing I know to get it out of the other folder including the Extract File Wizard,{which suppose to let you remove the pass word}, but all I get is Access Denied. Some one needs to be brave and try this and see how you make out and Please let me know.

Lets start with the BIOS updates You will see that there is a BIOS update which was "recently released". But this is a laughable trick that is pretty easy to see through for those who know what they are doing.  Take a look at the following picture, which is a snapshot of the Window which appears after the "wininfo32" command is launched, and concentrate on the indicated information in particular: Show Of hands, who caught the discrepancy?  How is this in any way, shape, or form a new freaking bios update and why was it only just recently put on the Windows 10 driver download selection when it has been available on the stock os version?s software download page for a year?!?  Pretty freakin obvious huh?!?  But I'm nowhere near done, so lets continue.  How did I discover this?!?  The answer to that leads me to complaint #2 of a very long list of grievances: when the hp assistant is downloaded for this particular product and updates are searched for, if one were to make the foolish mistake of actually believing what they see on the driver download page and installed the bios update listed there, then you will probably see a screen very similar to the one below: See what happened there?  I don't really care if the product page is displaying an old driver (well that much is already obvious, see above pictures if you forgot) or the Support Assistant is recommending an incompatible BIOS update for my device, both are controlled and ... I use Windows Media Centre on a 50 inch plasma in my living room. Win7 isn't geared up for it as there's no GUI for viewing from a distance. I set my text size to 200% and that just about does it.

Anyway, after installing Win8, I was pretty pissed off to find Metro was small, with small text and no means (that I could find) to make it larger. So much for Microsoft wanting us all to have WMC in our living room.

ATI Catalyst 12.1 doesnt work in 8, so not much use to me. Didn't get time to work out just how difficult it is to navigate. The few minutes I spent with 8, we're not a nice experience.

A:Really disappointed.

There is an easy way to make the text bigger. Go lower right to bring up the charms bar, 'tutorials links below'. Or use the Windows Key + C buttons.
Charms Bar - Open in Windows 8

Then click on the Settings icon, then click on "More PC Settings" lower right' after that click on "Ease Of Access" tab then switch on the "Make Everything On Your Screen Bigger" using the small slider switch.

"PC settings" Screen - Open in Windows 8

It took me a couple days to figure out where all this stuff was. Hope this helps.

I want to avoid the hazel of installing and updating Win 7 if current hard drive dies. All else (e.g. documents, AppData, eMail backed up and easily restored). I have identical hard drives (SATA) and cloned current drive "successfully". When I swap the drives, everything seems to work perfectly. If I use only the cloned drive (which would be the case where original failed) Windows starts to boot but stops with message something like "not genuine Windows"). Defeats the purpose.

Anyone know how to make this work? (Or explain the failure.)

For those who like details: Windows 7 Ultimate, Macrium Reflect Free
I found a Thread which discusses how to do this with Paragon but I couldn't get it to clone; just backup.

I also have a similar computer and I cloned the same way with Acronis True Image.

Ironic that MS seems to think I am a pirate. I get Windows, most MS and Adobe software free through my university.

A:Cloning Disappointed

Sorry, but MS uses the hard drive serial number as part of the hash code it generates to validate a Windows install. When you changed out the drive, the new hash code won't match the old one -- hence the validation message.

You would probably have to reactivate Win7.

Today i was little disappointed with Bitdefender 2017 TS. Finding the answer to a simple question wasn't easy:

"Does bitfender automatically scan the system perodically (quick and/or full) by default (especially with autopilot enabled)"

I was quite surprised of the answer (no):
https://forum.Bitdefender.com/index.php?/forum/478-protection/

Am i being to hard on Bitdefender? It seems like any AV solution these days should be doing periodic scans. Heck even Windows defender does periodic quick scans. I used to use NIS and its automatic scan system was actually quite awesome (least it used to be). It would detect when i wasn't using my system and do a scan during those times. If i logged in when it was doing one it would halt the scan and pick back up were it left off when it detected i left the computer. Not saying im going back to NIS. I will stick with Bitdefender. We all know the "Tierney of the default" problem which probably means 95% of Bitdefender users aren't doing scans. So yes its easy to schedule them but.....

Thoughts?

A:I'm a little disappointed in Bitdefender :(

I'm no expert but I'm not sure that an automatic system scan (an always on or idle scan) is necessary for real world protection these days , especially if the security software is constantly monitoring active applications/processes for any suspicious behavior (behavior blocker or whatever) and protecting your online surfing ..what I mean is that "dormant" malware that just sits there doing nothing is harmless .. so even though Bitdefender doesn't automatically scan your pc (I didn't knew that it doesn't) , other components keeps you secured .

Hi all,

No question or answer this time, just some bitching This may concern anybody who's thinking about buying ASUS components.

I bought a new comp about half a year ago and thought i was doing the right thing by buying some ASUS components: A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo and a Radeon 9800XT based ASUS gfx card.

The motherboard's performance was good, it was a nice and stable board with good overclocking and a fairly nice layout for playing with fans and heat sinks a bit
However I have found that the support ASUS gives is rather poor: they have BIOS updates on the site that definitely not work with my board (yes, i tried it many times, yes i tried on-board flashing, yes i tried award-flash util, yes i double checked BIOS versions mobo type and everything). The other software that is provided strikes me as rather unprofessional (I'm not a programmer and I would not be able to do it better, but still...) and in some cases just not good!
Of course I resort to drivers from the chip set manufacturers (e.g. nVidia, SiliconImage) and there doesn't seem to be a problem now but I can't say that I'm too impressed by all this: somebody with less experience may surely have to take the system back to the store.

The gfx card is downright bad, the architecture is not right which makes the card heat up quite strongly while e.g. playing doom3. Especially the memory chips are getting too hot and extra cooling is necessary. I know that problems like I had (white and... Read more

Just had to have a whinge..... I am sure that there are many satisfied users of Windows 8...I and the overwhelming majority of people I know are of a similar view to my own.

I am approaching 70 years... and I'll bet that many of the younger generation are thinking that an old fart like me should not be entrusted with such a piece of modern technology. maybe you are right.

In the current economic crisis, many young families rely on the Bank of 'Mum and Dad' to help them with the luxuries.... possibly iphones, tablets and so forth. I tend to mix with retired couples to whom this is routine... need a holiday ? Getting married ? New child on the way ? and many many more .... Grandparents step in and help. I still will but only if they purchase Mac computers.

I have come through since the nineties with a series of computers so I am no stranger to laptops, desktops and hard drives....

Windows, over the years has gradually introduced us all...nay...educated us into a system of using their product... Windows Vista was 'iffy', but continued the education.... Windows 7 is great.

My kids urged me to buy a new laptop... as did the saleslady at Currys... so I invested in a new laptop with Windows 8.

My laptop with Win8 has given me such aggravation, even with simple things, like switching off, switching on, airplane mode (now referred to 'Flight Mode') , things appearing at the side, searches being presented in a weird manner,....I could recite 100's so that finally today I cleaned ... Well, I understand how you feel. I myself prefer to stick to Windows 7, but with the advent of mobile devices like tablets (I currently have a Surface Pro 2 running windows 8.1) eventually everyone is going to be forced to use them. There are a few modifications to make windows 8 look and feel like windows 7 but further reading is required...

As for windows 9, Microsoft cancelled it and moved directly to Windows 10. They say the redesigned Windows 10 has a lot of user input and they've brought back a lot of stuff that users wanted from Windows 7. We'll see though...

The point of an RC is not to add new features, it is to basically provide a feature-locked OS and only change showstopper-type bugs.

I have had my Spectre 360 touchscreen laptop since 25th October last year, and in the past week my screen has iterally crumbled before my eyes, now there are shards of glass starting to fall out of the screen. The touchscreen function is no longer working either. I reported the problem to HP support, along with photos of my broken screen, only to be told that I was not covered under warranty for these repairs.  This is a $1700 computer, and it's going to cost me $800 to repair it out of my own pockert, and I still have 4 months of warranty left. I am seriously considering just purchasing a $1000 laptop and cutting my losses with this one. It's obviously been a very expensive mistake to purchase a laptop that cannot stay in one piece for less than a year, and then have to pay even more money for it. Not happy HP. Seriously doubting I will be purchasing products from here again.

I am extremely disappointed with Dell Product. I had an HP laptop for nine years, and I never have any problem with it. Dell refused to replace my laptop. Less than a year for a laptop it shouldn't have any issues.  I will never by any Dell products ever again. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Hey Everyone,

I recently bought the Astro A50's Xbox one edition. I absolutely love the sound of these headset. Truly amazing sound, however they pick up all background noise, the plastic on the head piece will scratch your neck if it's resting there.

The biggest problem is when using any type of communication program ( ex. skype or Xbox live ) you will hear a constant buzzing in both ear's. This has given me headache's over long period's of time while gaming. ( I've never had headaches before while gaming the same game at the same amount of hours ) it is very annoying at the same time.

I've read multiply site's and talk to numerous people that have returned their headset's to Astro only to have the same problem occur. The problem I've seen people say is it's more of a hardware issue rather then a software issue...

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend another pair of wireless gaming headset that:
-Have 7.1 surround sound
-Don't feel cheap
-cancels out background noise
-work's with PC and Xbox one
-good wireless signal.

I would have never thought for a $400 dollar pair of gaming headset's I would have had these kind of issues.

Thanks in advanced,
Steve D

Nothing was wrong with the motherboard!  He could have told me they shipped the wrong screen from the beginning and leave it at that but the guy didn't say a word the whole time he was here!  And didn't mention anything about a motherboard until after! In putting the new motherboard in, he somehow scuffed up my touchpad, put a scratch on the lid, and didn't close the bezel up properly so it had a gap on the top edge and a slight dent along the side.  I tried pushing the bezel sides together but the gap wouldn't close. My Yoga 720 (80X7001SUS) developed what appeared to be 4" line of dead pixels at top right of the screen.  Contacted Lenovo service to open a ticket, they send me a shipping box, I send it back.  The laptop arrived at Lenovo on 12/5/17 and the notes say that a technician has identified the problem but parts are unavailable.  I suspect because this is the 4K screen, that they're less common.  Disappointing but understandable.  Last week (12/14ish) I chat with Lenovo support and the tech says the computer has been fixed but it's being "tested." It's now 12/15 and 10 business days into the repair and the online status is still "waiting on parts."  So I have no idea if that's accurate or not.  Maybe they're going wrap it up today and ship it back.  Maybe the panel is still on a slow boat from somewhere.  In any case, I am VERY disappointed with Lenovo's service. At the first sign of a problem Lenovo should have contacted me, I should NOT have to chase down information about my computer.  A computer, incidentally, that was fairly expensive.  Then that message should have contained information about the delayed part, like an ETA.  Certainly Lenovo must know where parts are in its supply chain. At this point that I am so disappointed with Lenovo's service that, frankly, I would be hard pressed to buy another Lenovo product or recommend one to a friend.  So, Lenovo here's your chance to step up to the pla... I've been researching laptops for my work for a year and in July I bought Dell Inspiron Series 7000 online from Dell Hong Kong. I put my trust and expectations in Dell and that's why I am now experiencing extreme frustration and disappointment.
The computer I bought in August 2016 online from Dell Hong Kong has a defect. You can see it on YouTube. Now that most of you are running the 7600.16385 (RTM), what are your thoughts on what is basically the finished version of Windows 7.
After the past 6 months or more of progressing builds on the new OS, are you satisfied with the final product?
Are you disappointed?
Was there anything not in the final product that you had hoped for?

Over all Im pleased with it. It just feels much better/smoother than Vista. Im not as excited as I once was, but that is mostly due to being exposed to Win 7 for about 6 months now. Though part of me still thinks there could have been more done with Win 7. Like perhaps, it didnt take a further enough step forward in its advancements over its predecessor. I think I was also hoping for something really, really new to the OS realm.
Like I said though, i am pleased with this OS overall. I think Windows 7 will be around for quite some time and will be well received.

I purchased this ultrabook year 2014 and it worked really well until one day, right after the warranty expired!!!
I brought it to the technician but the only solution they have is to change the motherboard. OK, after less than 2 years its motherboard is already bad. Is that possible? What could be wrong? My old laptop worked for almost 6 years, and this dell ultrabook is just less than 2 years. Too disappointed!!!  I spent so much money for nothing.

A:Too disappointed with my dell 14z ultrabook

The mainboard is newer notebooks is basically everything inside the system - CPU, GPU, i/O chips -- even in some cases the memory for the system.  They can and do fail for any of a host of reasons.  Unfortunately, as more and more parts are now integrated onto mainboards, the chances for failure increase, as does the cost of repair.

more of a random ramble about my hatred for IE9 here.
I'm not thoroughly happy with IE9 at all. there are several annoying quirks about it that get on my nerves. none of these were present with IE8.

1. often in forums I have to click on things 2 times to get a response.
2. often pages will not load completely or take over 8 seconds to start loading.
3. often things just will not display at all. I have to resort to using firefox to see them.

4. sometimes I'll be typing and the menu pops up and starts using keyboard shortcuts and I lose everything I've been typing or it goes back a page etc.
5. I def do not like the new download manager. especially since it's like firefox.
if anyone knows ways I could correct these I'd like to hear it. because as of now, I'm just going to stop using IE9.

A:IE9 not impressed..slightly disappointed.

Funny I have none of those problems, but hey if you dont like it then dont use it

Terribly disappointed in Lenovo Sales. Yesterday I was told one thing about extending my warranty and today something totally different. You would think in this competitive market Lenovo would do everything to keep its customer base.

Hi Everyone,
I'm tying this on my Acer Aspire 5100-3357 laptop that originally came with windows vista home premium 32-bit installed on it. I recently purchased a authentic/genuine dvd disc that has windows 7 home premium edition w/sp1 on it, it's the 32-bit edition. It's already been 'legally' activated via microsoft. I've already tried once to install windows 10 home on this laptop via the 'upgrade' method, it finally finished but it too a VERY LONG time. It never did operate correctly..it ran as slow as cold molasses. To make matters even worse...I was having so many issue's that I got frustrated and performed a reset this pc. Of course when I did so, I couldn't easily go back to windows 7. So I had to start from scratch, as I'm not one to give up easy..I'm wondering whether to try it again or just forget about it, I'm enclosing my computer spec's. so hopefully some other user's can share their opinion's. By the way, windows 7 runs GREAT !!

Guys, today I was just doing some tests with Windows Defender Testground website and I realized how mediocre some antivirus solutions actually are; let me explain below.

In this website there are some files to test if Windows Defender protection is working correctly. So I tried the CloudBlock file and noticed after execution that it shows a GUI similar of a Ransomware, but ofcourse without any functionality. (it just tests if cloud protection of WD is working)

I uploaded the sample at VirusTotal just for the lolz and noticed that many antivirus solutions detected it as if it was a real malware.

See here:
Cloud-delivered protection - Windows Defender Testground
Antivirus scan for cb49bb09669c7a55fe1963c73aefa940f7775ec4eb17f0044e0bdd68889c69ac at 2018-02-26 21:05:36 UTC - VirusTotal 28/66

So whats the problem with this?

The problem is that many antivirus players just copy Microsoft or Kaspersky signatures (Microsoft in this case) and it is done, no real research or advanced heuristics at play. I remember that some years ago Eugene Kaspersky complained about this and it seems that this situation still remains.

Serious guys, dont waste your money with those copycats, just use Comodo with @cruelsister settings or buy a real antimalware solution like Kaspersky or Emsisoft.

Ps: I am especially disappointed with ESET.
Ps 2: Pardon me for my english, I was at a hurry and it isnt my native language.

I really now the basics from font rendering (subpixel rendering, hinting....) so it's not a wrong setting or something.

Windows have only simple grayscale antialiasing for the modern UI fonts and even some elements on the desktop (the bold office fonts "HOME" "INSERT" .... for example http://www.areamobile.de/assets/news...2013-excel.jpg) .

When I compare that with ubuntu (which I have in a virtual machine here) or OSX the fonts are so much less fuzzy - furthermore the fuzzy fonts looks like rendering artefacts to me sometimes. Highly annoying. I can understand that there are technical reasons that they don't use clear type anymore, but they should get at least on the level from ubuntu/OSX for the fonts. Win8 it's really unpleasant for me to read in some situations.

Someone feel the same?

A:Are you also disappointed with the font rendering in win8?

They still use ClearType....

Pros- 8GB RAM is much needed for ChromeOS power users.- Core i3 and i5 are also much needed for ChromeOS power users.- FHD and higher resolution IPS screens are much needed for ChromeOS power users.- ThinkPad build quality. Cons- Keyboard doesn't have a red TrackPoint mouse??? Lenovo hasn't released a ThinkPad Chromebook with a TrackPoint mouse since the 2013 x131e. That x131e Chromebook isn't for sale anymore, so there aren't any current options for ChromeOS users. Why take it away and not have something suitable for replacing it? I really love ThinkPads and ChromeOS. I want to spend money on a product which is both, but each recent Chromebook Lenovo has been missing some important feautre. Very disappointing. :'(

Purchased a Lenovo X series Thinkpad last year and had to return it due to software issues that no one could address. Despite of warnings from my wife, I went ahead and purchased a new X260 last month. After using the device for less than 10 hours the LCD display went dead! Luckily I purchased a 1-year onsite service additional warranty. The Tech came in yesterday and replaced the LCD display, however once he was removing the battery I noticed the clip on the right side was broken (misaligned). After he left, the edges of the display frame poped out and I now have gaps in between the frame and the LCD display. I placed a replacent order two days ago but no one called yet. When I called today, the rep was very polite to acknoledge the replacement case number, but quickly suggested that if I'm not happy with the turn-around, I could cancel the order and return the product, which I'm contemplating doing again. At this stage, all I need is a functioning computer as I have a consulting assignment overseas in two weeks and I'm not confident they'll ship a replacement ontime. What's going on with this company? I still have an old X120e (relic) built like a tank, never gave me any issue, which is the reason I tried to remain loyal to Lenovo!!! Can someone get back to me and give me a little better treatment as I'm a very easy going person who can easily become satisfied, instead of making me detest this company?

Hi All, I decided to comment on Bitdefender here, before maybe heading over to one of the official BD forums, cause here is where I got it (greatly appreciated, thanks to madyrocksin!)

Previously I used Avira Antivir with Comodo firewall, never had any problems with the combo, but hey, who can resist a free offer?

So, I've read through Nomad's thread, can't say I've noticed any slow down problems.

First off, what really bugs me is the notification indicator on the desktop widget. At the moment its telling me that I have 31 notifications. But when I open the control panel, they are old notifications (BD wasn't updated at some point), despite the fact that it is currently up to date. The notifications are still there, despite being redundant!

Note: they come about because I sometimes turn off the Internet connection, only activate it when I am actually online. My Viao has one of these switches that let you control Internet access, and I use it. Surely it wouldn't take too much to have the software recognize that BD is up to date and remove old redundant notifications!

Secondly, it seems to change settings by itself (main panel). If I set it to Autopilot, I go back later and see it has set itself to User Mode. It turns Auto Update off, this has happened a few times!

Before writing this I decided to check all the settings, and discovered on the Anti Virus > Shield panel, where I have both On-access scanning and Active Virus Contr... Read more

RE: Dissapointed with Bitdefender: Settings & Notifications

Widgets are aren't necessarily at all since its consume lots of resources there.

bitdefender have faced lots of issue problems regarding in the sotware itself especially when uninstallation process as it leaves a driver that caused then internet inactive.

I have recently sent my HP Pavillion x2 laptop off for screen replacement and since getting it back when I use the screen it clicks in 4 different areas from where I have actually clicked. I then contacted the support service and they disconnected and due to it being after 6 they stopped with customer service and left me clueless. After paying a frankly extortionate price of £117 for the fix I would have thought it would work. The screen was working before the fix even with a cracked screen and now it does not so very angry currently. If anyone helpful could get in contact with a FREE sloution that would be great.

I have brand new Acer Aspire E15 and i am disappointed because i tought it will be much better but it isn“t. I will complain in points:-“burning“ while playing not so high requirements game.Interesting is that more complicated game and it doesnt burn.-screen is warming up in bottom-middle part(plastic frame-acer logo is there)-sound has some kind of noise and its bad for ears.-font in setup menus is blured a bit. There is difference between win 10 font and in-program font(blurred). Its like head of window is normal but inside window(content) is blured.Small icons are blured too(i mean in taskbar near Wi-Fi icons for example steam or ccleaner icons).-reject to use adobe reader as default program to open .pdf and turn it back to Microsoft Edge-Noisy work.I hear cooling even if there is no reason for cooling so hard. And some kind of ticking.Maybe HDD.-And Main problem icons on desktop cannot be moved 2-3cm over taskboard.Above that i can freely move icons. This gap is just too big and it doesnt please me.I want to ask if there is a way how to repair some of these problems by me.*Orange-problems i think i might solve*Red-problems i cannot solve

I have a Thinkpad W510. 8 GB RAM, running Win7 Pro 64-bit. My previous laptop was a Thinkpad T61 with 32-bit XP and 3 GB RAM. DVD playback on that machine was flawless, I could set up a DVD for the kids and never have to worry about it. There were no lags, no hiccups, no pauses.

Playback on my Win7 laptop reminds me of the early days of Win95. I remember way back when having to ensure the controllers were set to DMA mode instead of PIO in order to get as smooth playback as I could. With my less-than-year old W510, I am back to those same old problems. Playback will start up fine after a very long lag, but eventually will start stuttering. The kids complain constantly of it pausing. I have tried many different DVDs, and it is hit and miss. Some will play to conclusion relatively well, but others (even brand new DVDs) will start pausing halfway through. I can't even find "PIO mode" listed in Device Manager any longer, in fact IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers where I used to find it in XP has exactly one listing on my Win7 (Ricoh Memory Stick controller).

What can I do to improve playback? I always make sure the minimal possible is running (no virus checking, etc.), and I always plug in the power cable so that the kids don't have to watch on battery power alone. That brings me to the second complaint, my old T61 used to be fine for about 3 hours of battery DVD watching with no pauses, my new W510, forget about it. I don't even bother any longer trying to watch... Read more

I own a Lenovo Ideapad Z510 laptop which has ADP warranty. Seems, my laptop has a history of issues with Wireless card and unfortunately I came across that once again (earliest it came up in August 2016)Story in August'2016:Lenovo teams took over 2 months to fix the issue by replacing the Wireless card. I had a really really hard time in convincingly the Lenovo support teams over phone that the issue is indeed a problem with WiFi card hardware (the traditional Lenovo diagnostic applications such as Lenovo solution center and were not able to even detect the problem). During the course of the issue, 4 times Lenovo team had shipped wrong replacement hardware and each such instance took almost 3 hours of troubleshooting which came as by-product while the replacement part was faulty or incompatible with my Laptop.Story in April'2017:This time fortunately, Lenovo support agreed about the WiFi card replacement in the first attempt itself. They even send the replacement hardware in just 2 days (though it came out to be incompatible with my Laptop). Thereafter, it has been 3 weeks since then and there is no progress on this case. I have had called Lenovo helpline numerous times asking for status update and in response [email protected] support gave me commitments about case escalations and the resolution time of next 3 days. But every single time deadline which was committed to me did surpassed without any progress and still customer care keeps giving me same scripted answers.Additionally... Read more
