Benign applications samples

Q: Benign applications samples

It might look as trivial question .. but sorry I am very desperate

I am trying to create my own collection of malware and benign applications and analyse them with Anubis .. I've already managed to collect large number of malware but I am in need for more benign applications with these specific features:
- work on windows XP
- smaller than 8 MB
- EXE files only

I have downloaded clean windows on Virtual machines and collect all the clean files, and I have downloaded from legitimate websites but it doesn't seem enough at all
Any recommendation of sources ?

Preferred Solution: Benign applications samples

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

for the past few days I've been getting an 'Open File Security Warning' pop up when I log in.

"The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?"

Name; tvenelnnv.exe
Publisher: unknown
Type: Application
from: C:\windows\system32

this give me an option to Run or Cancel and of course there's the box to tick to always ask before opening.

I have McAffee installed and it detect no problems.

If I choose cancel it pops up again but disappera if canceled again. However it returns next time I log on.
If Ichoose Run it pops up again but nothing happens apart from my usual applications continuing to load.

I have searched on Google to no avail, absolutely nothing.

I tried to rename the file, but it returned.

I tried to delete the file, but it returned.

I unticked the box to stop the message popping up, but it returned.

As i said, it doesn't appear to be doing anything but I can't get rid of the little pest.

Any suggestions?

A relatively new install of XP SP3, the first program that went on was Avira. I've always run with windows updates enabled, limited user account except when admin is necessary, don't use warez sites, but I seem to have picked up something that phones home to get an ad anyway. At first, it was always to the AustralianBrewingCompany, but now it's to a new website each time it fires. It seems to happen, once, about 10 minutes after I logon to XP. Avira can't see it, neither can a MacAfee scan. I've looked in the usual startmenu places with no joy, but haven't probed deeper than that.

While an ad popping up after 10 minutes is no more than a nuisance at the moment, I'm concerned that it may get worse, and it shouldn't be there anyway, so clearly I've been compromised at some point.

After I did the new build, I downloaded my normal gaggle of free tools, and I hope it's none of these as they're useful:- SumatraPDF (Adobe has advanced far enough to be unusable), frhed, LibreOffice, Audacity, DeepBurner, CutePDF printer, FastStone Image Viewer, Notepad++, and a few more of the same ilk. However I did have trouble getting my media players to work, and thrashed around a bit with drivers beyond ffdShow, so it could be here I went wrong?

Anyhowz, I'd appreciate some help with killing it.

Was running an AVG scan that seemed to have stuck on a file called wizard.txt in my C: drive. I didn't put it there, and it was empty. I'm not finding much from google except a couple of references that others have found this, and it had their router password in plain text.

Does anyone know what this file is? I had what was either a Microsoft Update meltdown or a so-far-not-found virus attack, so this file worries me a bit. I haven't gotten into my router lately, perhaps I'm glad I haven't?

Any help appreciated!

Hi guys,

Upgraded my PC to Windows 10 a few days ago and ever since then, each time I boot up my PC, I get the attached error message.

If I hit Enter, then the error screen goes away and Windows loads as normal with no issues (none that I can tell, anyway.) Is this something I should be worried about? I'm not even sure why it's popping up in the first place, everything's running fine.

A:Benign error screen upon booting up machine

If your computer was running Windows 7 without any issues, hopefully the hardware (the parts that makeup your computer) is OK.

To try and sort out the boot files, you can try a fairly straightforward repair - "Startup Repair" (it's built-in to Windows 10). Here's how:

Windows 10 Startup Repair

1) Click on the Windows Start Menu icon
2) Select Settings
3) Select Updates & Security
4) Select Recovery
5) Select Advanced Startup
6) Select Restart Now
7) .... you'll see a "Please wait ..." screen for a moment ....
8) From the Choose an Option screen, select Troubleshoot
9) Select Advanced Options
10) Select Startup Repair

If that doesn't help, and your computer has any built-in diagnostics: run them. (They are often available during system power on, by pressing a special Function key -- for example F10, or similar) . . .

Let us know if you have questions.

Just recently I've been having a problem where while connecting to GameSpy in Microsoft Flight Sim 10, Malwarebytes says that a certain IP has been blocked, on multiple ports. I did a WHOIS lookup and it redirected me to the RIPE NCC, which I followed to CJSC ER-Telecom Holding in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. I ran a scan with MBAM and ESET db 4/24 (it mysteriously lost my username and password) and they found nothing (ESET has found threats before). So I ran a netstat and saw one peculiar result:
TCP on port 49224: www-15-01-prn1 which was established and shown as InHost.
I disconnected and reconnected and now I only have 1 active connection. Anything to worry about, or is it just random? I opened the game and connected to GameSpy again, I am waiting right now and looks like nothing is happening.

Thanks for taking the time to read this long and boring post.

I regularly expand my folder count with new image filled folders.
However, I am at a stump since all new folders are arranged by size by default, and not name.
I am both unsure how to change to, and where.
I'm running Windows XP, probably Professional, without anything particularly odd or complex (RocketDock is nearly the only addition to my work space)

Two days ago I had a dual attack of Antimalware Doctor and Security Suite. I seem to have gotten rid of them with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It was rough, but I made it through.Since then, I am having some issues with Firefox. There are two things happening:1 - A tab will randomly open and go to some website. It's almost always benign - some news site or advert for software. (Recent one was Registry Defender software) If I just close the tab, it goes away and that's that. Happens once an hour or so. I have noticed that whatever my most recent Google search was will be somewhere in the address bar of the rogue tab, as a sort of query.2 - When I Google something and click on links in my search result, I will encounter something that looks like a poll - "Answer this question before going on to your site" - if I go back, then re-click the search result link, the poll question isn't there. I have AVG 9.0 free and it comes up with nothing. AdAware comes up with nothing. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware comes up with nothing. SUPERAntiSpyware comes up with nothing.I tried to do a System Restore, but OH GOLLY it has been OFF all this time. So there is nothing saved that I can restore to.I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. That did not change anything.I deactivated all of the Firefox plugins. That did not change anything.Any advice would be very appreciated!!ETA: Most recent popup @ 1117PM: http://lpgen.info/mylpgen/regscan/64x217827... Read more

Every time I visit a website that offers mp3 sound samples, I get an error when I try to hear them.

For example, visiting a wind chimes website that offers samples of how their products sound. When I click on the "hear a sample" icon, it takes me to another page, with .mp3 at the end of the address, but I get a little exclamation point inside a yellow triangle in the bottom bar and nothing shows up on the page and I don't get to hear the sound.

When I click on the triangle to find out what the problem is, it tells me, "Error: object expected".

I don't remember having this problem before IE updated itself and changed it's format a few weeks ago. I have no problem hearing music embedded in websites, it's just the sound samples with a .mp3 address.

Any idea what the problem is?

A:Why can't I listen to MP3 samples?

What player did you use before? Now?
What version of IE are you using now?
Have you also tried Firefox or another browser?

To play/hear any .mp3 or such sound, a player, such as winamp, realplayer, etc. must be installed, and it must have permission to play such files.

May have to reinstall IE, or at the least check all of the settings.

I am a student studying for my Honours project on the Analysis and Detection of Ransomware. Part of this project is to look at different types of Ransomware samples and record their characteristics and behaviour, as well as come up with preventative techniques to stop/halt the attacks. To be able to do this I have been asked to acquire different live samples. As I am new to the forums, and therefore not a verified member I am unable to access the malware repository. I would very much appreciate if somebody could point in the right direction to get some assistance in this area.

Bleeping Computer's main mission is to help people rid their computers of malware not infect them. For legal and liability purposes we do not endorse or permit the sharing of malware samples via the forums. There are plenty of 'in the wild' samples available by using unsafe browsing tactics.

By posting samples they may be taken and used for nefarious purposes. Which would defeat the main purpose of Bleeping Computer.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a Network Engineer for an IT consulting company in NYC. Recently we've seen the XP/Win7/Vista Antivirus 2012 malware pop up on many of our clients PC's. Most of the PC's I've seen infected are running SEP, so obviously SEP isn't doing anything to stop it.

I'm currently looking for Samples of this Virus that we can use to test several anti malware programs. I'm Currently looking at these three alternatives, to run along side SEP: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-free-realtime-malware-protection-removal-tools/. My supervisor is also interested in learning what the end user is doing to become infected with this virus. As far as I know, there are many infection methods, ranging from email attachments, to website popups that trick the user into running the malware.

Does anyone know of a current scam site that would infect a computer with this virus? Or does anyone know where I can download the actual executable?

If you link a file or site here, please don't make the link clickable, as we don't want people accidently clicking the link.

Also, when it comes to deleting, should I delete to a zip disk

I have already backed up every font on a CD-RW disk.

A:printing samples of every font

You can view and print samples of each font in W2K by going to the C:/Winnt/Fonts folder, (I believe in XP its located in the C:/Windows/Fonts folder.) Just double click on each one to view a sample which you can print by clicking on the print button on the upper right. However, if you have 500 fonts, its probably not worth the time and ink to print all of them. Its probably best just to view them and delete the ones your planning to get rid of by cutting them over onto your zip disk for backup.
