Unwanted toolbar/ web page

Q: Unwanted toolbar/ web page

Hi there.
I have a machine that runs Vista. A few days ago I had become the recipient of an unwanted toolbar or web page that calls itself Mywebsearch. I say toolbar or web page because I’m not absolutely sure which of the two it is. Maybe it’s both. My normal home page is Google, and I want it to stay that way too. When I go onto the Net, my Google home page is there. But when I visit anything and return to my home page by clicking on the home icon, that home page changes toMywebsearch. It doesn’t make any difference using the function “Make Google my home page”, because Mywebsearch overrides it.

I have gone looking on the Net for ways to remove this Mywebsearch trash, and so far they all seem to involve going to the Control Panel and removing programs called “My Web Search” and “My Search Assistant.” I cannot find these programs on the list. How the hell do I get rid of this creepy trash?

Thanks for your time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all-
I have run the required scans, and they are attached. I have an unwanted toolbar and startup web page that I can't seem to get rid of. Both IE and FF initialize to this link http://vshare.toolbarhome.com/?hp=df , and I don't want it!!

Also, my pages are loading more slowly than in the past, as if the system "hangs up" for a few seconds before loading the new page.

Thanks for any help you can provide, techies!!

I have had numerous problems today. Seems most are solved now, but one. A toolbar is in IE7 that seems connected to safenavweb(dot)com. I have researched and cannot find anything that will help me get rid of it. I have disabled it in "Manage Add-Ons." I want to remove it. I am running Windows Vista on a new Dell Inspiron 530.

I found C:\Windows\bonsws.dll seems to be associated with this toolbar. It also has the name of the toolbar (listed in my toolbars) as "The bbrsep." I found in my registry 8 different instances that have bonsws in it. I found 3 instances with bbrsep in it. I located the bonsws.dll in my system directory but it would not let me delete it.

What the heck is this thing? How do I get rid of it? SpyBot does not find it nor does my Norton program.

This afternoon I downloaded a game for my little boy from our ComCast site. He didn't like it, so I UNinstalled it. Now I have a "ComCast games" toolbar that I can't get rid of. I can get rid of it momentarily, but when I turn my computer on there it is again. I right clicked and Unchecked the Games toolbar, but it's still there when I come back. What should I do now?

A:Unwanted Toolbar

Select 'Uninstall' (second from the bottom, above 'Help') from the Comcast button pulldown menu on your toolbar.

Click 'yes' when you are presented with a confirmation window. Clicking 'yes' will begin the uninstall process.

At the end of the uninstall process a new browser will open with a confirmation message. Close any browser that is still showing the toolbar. This will complete the uninstall process.

After recently updating Adobe Reader and, unintentionally, it's related products, I now have a new toolbar on my browser. It is, apparently, a joint venture with Yahoo but I don't want or need another one. Could anyone tell me how to easily get rid of it?Thanks, Phil.

In IE, click on the menu option View then go to Toolbars, uncheck the toolbar you don't want. Some toolbars place themselves right on View, without the need to go to Toolbars, so check also there if you need to.

I have been infected with an unwanted toolbar/browser hijacker that has been very elusive so far. I have tried:
Adaware, Spysubtract, Pest Patrol, Avast AV, Xoftspy, spywareblaster, Lspfix, Hijack this, and probably a couple of others I can't remember. I will attach the hijack this log for all to view. When I run Hijack This, the first entry is always a very suspicious looking toolbar that I promptly delete, but it returns withing minutes. Oh I ran Spyware Gaurd too (after the fact) But I disabled it because it kept saying BHO attempt every 15 seconds or so and no matter what I did it never stopped. Here is the HT log:

Hello,
First I will tell you I am not that computer savvy.
I do have some options that I want off my toolbar at the top of the pages. In my work I need the Google search bar and the MSN/bing bar. I do not need the second Google search bar, the address bar or the favorites bar.
I also don't want these.
My tool bar is taking up almost 1/4 of the viewing page.
I had to reinstalle XP due to a corrupt windows problem.
We had to download everything all over again.
We did do the updates.
We have removed IE, Google and Bing 3-4 times trying to get rid of the un-necessary features.
Nothing in the tools area allows for us to remove these.
Can anyone please help me get rid of these?
Any help is very, very appreciated.

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/
and if it finds any, just follow the instructions on how to take it off, or follow the instructions on downloading a program (free) call SpyBot.
It's a really great program that I have used, easily beating out any other anti spyware programs.. seriously though, check it out because most porn toolbars are nothing buy spyware anyways.

I recently purchased Mcafee Virus Scan 2009, I received this message after first scan that an unwanted program "generic toolbar.b" was found, I do not know to remove this program. Is it a virus? The scan also said no spyware was found on my computer, yet the Mcafee Virus scan included spyware. Another strange thing happened I cannot register the Mcafee. Two disks came in the package one for Anti-Thief, registration came up after it downloaded and was successful. The Virus Scan no registration came up and I could not register it by clicking on the M on my toolbar using the product setup. After several attempts with Mcafee support online, they refused to help me because my product was not registered in their system. I give up with Mcafee support. Can someone please help. Thanks

Since we've upgraded to Office XP, everytime we get an email with a word attachment, it opens up with the Review Toolbar in the middle of the document. You have to close it or move it. I haven't been able to figure out how to keep the review toolbar from opening up.
This is coming from inside and outside of our company. Also, we do not send attachments for review.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Randy

A:Getting unwanted Review Toolbar with attachments

I found the answer to this question, but the fix is on the other end.

In Outlook XP (maybe 2000, not sure), if you go into Tools, Options and take the E-mail Options tab, then go to Advanced E-mail Options, uncheck the last option under "When Sending A Message": Add Properties to Attachments to Enable Reply with Changes.

This will remove the Reviewing Tool Bar, but like I said, it has to be done on the other end. Since I've gone around and unchecked that options, I've seen less of this reviewing tool bar.

Greetings!
Whenever I open MSWord (Office 2003), a toolbar shows up at the top that I don't want or need. It appeared when ScanSoft PDF Pro was installed.
How do I stop it from automatically appearing? This is my work computer, so I can't uninstall ScanSoft (it's a necessary app). And I have tried customizing the toolbar by unclicking the selection and then closing Word. But the next time I open Word, it's back!
Is there a .ini file or config file I need to go into and tweak? Or is there a simpler solution? I would really love to get rid of it altogether, but that's not an option.
Just a side comment totally unrelated to this: I didn't realize just how long I've been away from this site until I searched MY posts and saw that my last one was back in Aug, 07. I need to come here more often!

Thank you.

A:Solved: extra unwanted toolbar

Well, if it's just a toolbar, right click in any of the empty space at the top of firefox and deselect whatever toolsbars you don't want running. If you don't see it, try customize and try and drag and drop it away.

Hi, I have this toolbar sitting below the address bar on my IE window. From left to right, it has a search field, "internet security", "computer security", "email search", "people search", "free chat", "email addresses", "free ads", and "bar code." The bar is blue and when I right click, it is called "qeaeaprslyp." When I check that off, it disappears, but it pops out again whenever I open IE again! Also, when I mispell a webpage, it goes to a page called "Search the Web" instead of "This page cannot be displayed."

I've read similar problems and tried to fix it myself. I ran Cool Web Search Shredder, ran Ad-Aware, then Spybot Search and Destroy, but it still won't go away. Today my friend told me to run Hijack This and post the log here. Any help would be appreciated -- Thanks!!!

Hello, just after CyberTech helped fix my problem, it seems to have reared it's ugly head again to continue causing me difficulties. Somehow, my system seems open to accept a program that sits itself in a folder called 'media idle load way' in Docs & Settings/All users/Application Data; which contains various programs. The latest calls itself l'oaddebug' and seems to be the reason the unwanted browser items appear. I would be grateful if somebody (CyberTech included) could look at the latest HJT log to see if something stands out. I can remove the folder in Safe Mode but the reason it keeps appearing worries me.
Thanks in advance:

If anyone out there likes to slove mysteries - I've got one for you. I know, you'll be saying I've heard this all before - easy fix. WRONG! So far I have implemented every prodcedure from Microsoft, Norton, Malware Removal Guide For Windows Web-Site, and more adware software companies than I can mention here. All without solving the problem. So, before I have to wipe and format my whole drive ( which would be a disaster for me) I thought I would seek help here. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1. I have installed Norton 360 and Spyhunter 4. I use Firefox and Internet Explorer 9.
PROBLEM: When I try to fill in ANY search ( on my browser or start menu) or any log-in ( as it did when I first logged in to Tech Support Forum), a search bar pops up and puts the letters in its search box. Sometimes I can just (X) the box out and start over, sometimes I have to restart the browser or search. Most of the time I have to use the Task Manager to end the unwanted search bar. The only name that appears in the Task Manager is "Search Results" which I have to end. I have no unwanted software listed in my Control Panel Uninstall. This problem does not occur every time but intermittently.

Believe me, I have tried every procedure out there - nothing works.

The only change I made to my computer just before this started was installing software for my UPS from APC. I immediately uninstalled it when it was causing problems with my system.

I have attached a snip for your review ... Read more

Hello TechSupport Guy,
I recently noticed that there is a new "toolbar" that seems to have been added to my Yahoo homepage. Similarly, I now get a "sidebar" that never was there before. Upon searching around a bit, I notice that on my c:\ root, there is are a couple of files Elite Toolbar version58.dll and Elite sidebar version 08.dll, sideBdd.exe, as well as upgradetb093.exe. When I surf on the net, I have the impression that these probably relate to the toolbar/sidebar problem. Whats the best way to rid myself of this?

Btw, I'm running XP. I could have sworn that I had SP 1, but I dont see an indication of it when I right click on my computer. Where else to look?

I recently noticed that whenever I select a desktop folder and it opens, I have a menu bar (File, Edit, View, Tools, Help) that opens between the top address bar and the next bar in that folder (organize, system properties..etc) and when I drag my mouse over the file, edit..etc, those entries highlight in dark blue (barely readable) and the toolbar seems to function normally with drop-down etc. but I am not able to either toggle the toolbar on or off and any selections of toolbars under the view category do not appear to function and the only thing I am able to do is lock or unlock the toolbars in the view category and no selection of other entries like google, avast, or any other toolbars allow me to select or de-select the entry.

What is this toolbar, why is it there, why can't I get rid of it, why can't I seem to modify the colors of the text and highlight (as in the case of IE where the text will turn from a black color to white when the highlight hovers in that toolbar to make it readable) and why don't any of my settings in the folder options change or fix this toolbar?

I have uninstalled any rogue toolbars in my system and nothing seems to work. I have also ran spyware, registry cleaners, and other system optimization software to no avail. I have advanced experience with computers, but I'm perplexed, frustrated, and I surrender with this issue. Please Help!

Running: Windows 7 Ultimate in 32bit format. Again, my issue is not with Internet Explorer but rather W... Read more

A:Unwanted-Non Configurable Desktop Folder Menu Toolbar

It's under Folder Options>View. Type the word folder in start search box and folder options should pop up

If unchecking >Apply >OK that doesn't work for you - not sure what else it could be.

Alternatively, f you have some kind of 3rd party theme installed - that might be doing it.

Hi there --

Here's what you need to do so a security team member can begin to analyze your problem.

Close any applications you have running. Go to Start > (Settings) > Control Panel > Folder Options > View and select Show hidden files and folders. Also make sure to uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.

Download and install HijackThis. (Do NOT put HijackThis in the Temp folder. Create a folder called HJT on your C: drive and move HijackThis.exe there.) Now run HJT and click Scan. Then click Save Log and name it hijackthis.log.

Download HijackThis Analyzer. Unzip the program to the same folder where you saved the hijackthis.log file. Read README.txt, then run the program. Type y at the prompt if you agree. It will create result.txt. Open up that file and post the WHOLE log file in your thread here. DO NOT remove/fix anything in there since more damage may be done if you remove it improperly. Most entries are not harmful. Be sure to mention that you used HijackThis Analyzer to get the new log.

When you've posted the HJT log, a member of the security team can begin helping you with your issue. We recommend that you subscribe to this thread so you'll be notified as soon as we post your fix. To do this, at the top of your original post, click Thread Tools and then Subscribe to this thread; on the next page, make sure "Instant notification by email" is selected, then click Add subscription.

Good luck!
