Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - USER PASSWORD Reset - with Admin Access

Q: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - USER PASSWORD Reset - with Admin Access

Hi all,I hope someone might have an idea on how to proceed here. Im working in a company where the IT department is run by the 3 Stooges and hence the overall "service" is more like a free theater show when interested in wasting time.Having said that, I have my work laptop at home with full Admin Access and my own user profile. The laptop is a HP 640 G2 which was set up via fingerscan for me to log on (into the user profile). Since this laptop (which i also dislike alot for various reasons) stopped accepting the fingerscan (and subsequently fingerscan turned out to be fully broken hardware wise) Im not able to log into my User Profile. The password that has been set up for it was done once as out of requirement when we got them but never used and hence forgotten. The IT department has no clue or idea how to fix this remotely but I have the full access of the computer with admin rights, im able to go manually into my user profile folder and so on, so my question is, how can I reset the password? In theory, I should be able by going into Control Panel and User Accounts but my user profile is not on the same domain as the admin access and the userprofile is not listed within the user accounts.Admin is based on the computer domain name (like lpw1234-/admin) and my user profile is on the "office" domain, which by default required just my username with no previous domain name (like office/user).Could someone tell me how I can reset the user password for that profile? Thanks alot,Alfonso

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds to me like the entire situation is the responsibilty of the entity IT dept.  It possesses the means, at the very least, of just providing you with a system...or changing profile passwords for you.  Since this is the property of a business entity...with an IT department...it's up to them to resolve it.

My two cents...

I've changed the boot order but still the bootable CD/DVD will not boot In the older days one would use +/- to change the order. 3. Last question if the BIOS supports a bootable USB flash drive does the flash drive have to be bootable or created with a bootable OS or software like Linux ?

I have a few computers, and on one I could not remember the password for the life of me. I really wanted to get access to some of the files on there, so i tried removing the hard drive and adding it to this machine here as a slave drive, which also runs vista. This computer has no passwords at all enabled. And... it worked although it added the other hard drive as the C (and partitioned F drive) ! Now I have access to the hard drive and all of it's contents (after a few permission checks for some of the important files) but I really like the other computer better. It has a better graphics card, processor, etc. Is there any way I can change or delete a file so i can put the other computer back together and have it working properly with no passwords or at least a new one?

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/W7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.

I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.

We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find the name of it. Can't seem to find it now.
Thanks!

I am Arun Kumar Kushwaha and I have discovered one Big Loophole/Security Leak in Microsoft's Windows 7 Operating System worldwide.
through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Hello, I'm new here. Found the forums via searching for my problem. Yes, I know it's listed on the forums several times, but none of those solutions fix my problem.

All I need to do is reset the admin password on my computer. I only have a limited access account. I have tried every available program on the net. None of the linux based ones will see my hard drive, even with the correct drivers. The hash getting ones say the password is too secure to unscramble.

I do not have access to another machine, nor can I use my burner because i dont have access according to windows (limited account). So some of them I can't use because I can't make a bootable CD. However, I did get a friend to make me 3 of them, including the emergency boot disk and it crashes near the beginning with some kind of resource conflict.

Is there any other way short of formatting? I really don't want to have to do that. I also don't have any Windows XP cd's. Perhaps I can get ahold of one. I know I can install xp in another dir and logon to that install via recovery console to replace the sam file with the one from the repair dir. I just don't have access to a windows XP cd at the moment. Was hoping there was something I haven't tried yet.

If there is any way anyone knows of to change a limited account to admin status that would work also. That is really all I want to do, give myself admin on my own computer. It used to be that way but... Read more

Hi Yet again, Windows is frustratingly taking up all of my time and I have tried everything google has to offer to try and fix it but it seems like no one has screwed up as much as I have on whatever forum. Let me explain the problem: I'm trying to set my account to administrator because I can't install programs, change account settings, make any changes through CMD without getting the system error 5 access denied message and I can't set the administrator account through CMD either. I also don't have the permission to change anything in regedit and I can't even reset my pc because it requires an administrator password which I don't have, is not "nothing" nor is it administrator or admin or password and I can't change it through cmd either. I can't even access the administrator account because it is disabled and even with an elevated cmd I can't activate the "hidden" administrator account. I've ran malwarebytes and superantispyware and I am now looking for the Gandalf of all Geeks to help me solve this problem. I'd immensely appreciate it!

Afternoon,

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Mike

Hello,

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

Many complaints about Msft's jumbled handling of user accounts,  but none of the fixes I found work.
Files in a folder on an external hard drive give an access denied error - you must be an admin to access. Only one account on the pc and it's an admin enabled account. Other files in this directory on the hard drive open fine, and the folder has never had
different permissions applied so it's ridiculous that I can't access these files.
One thing to note is I do get a "Windows needs to be activated" alert when I look at the admin account dialog. The only option given there is to sign into a Msft account which I don't want to do nor should I have to. Windows is clearly activated
and working fine and the need to link to a Msft account is just Msft marketing bullcr*p.
I only use this pc for music so if this can't be fixed easily I'll just install Linux and be done with Windows. I've already wasted far too much time going down Msft's rabbit holes.

Last week my husband purchased a new hp laptop which came with Windows 10
On setup i used my microsoft account to login with a pin, the account was setup as administrator (thinking i could change things later)
About 2 days later i added a standard user account for my husband with a microsoft account login with pin.
I wanted to make his the administrator account but thought i had better change mine to a standard account first! My mistake!!
Now i cannot change anything! i have tried to use the cmd prompt to run as administrator - it asks for administrator permission and does not allow me to enter a password or yes!
I have tried all suggestions to enable the hidden windows 10 account but all ask for the same permission.
I have tried to go to setup, recovery, troubleshoot, advanced option, system restore - it requests an administrator password and when i entered what i thought is mine it does not work! Feeling a little
Does anybody know anyway i can go back in time to start again or how do i access administrator rights as i really need to add programs etc
Thank you for any help given

My friend recently bought a new Windows 8 laptop which she set up in her name and therefore has a passworded Admin account. I also partitioned the HD so that the smaller portion (C) contains the OS and the larger portion (D) is for all her files.

Since I am only using the laptop temporarily my passworded 'standard' user account is located in (C) and cannot be viewed by anybody else, however, I can view my friend's files which are now being stored in 'D'.

Is there a way to protect the files in the 'D' partition in the same manner as if all accounts were on one drive and password protected?

I'm setting up a stolen laptop tracking software and want to leave a standard/non-admin user account open for a potential thief. The software requires someone to log in and connect to the internet in order to start tracking. So if I only have my personal admin account password protected, I will be out of luck. The problem is that while logged in as a standard user I am able to access recovery options. From there I can use advance startup and proceed to reset my pc. If a thief logs in and resets my pc right away, I will have no way of tracking them. I have windows 8.1 standard and have not been able to find any way from restricting access to the recovery options.

A:Non-Admin Standard User Able to Reset PC

If a potential thief has enough knowledge about computers, there's nothing you can do to stop it. You can make it harder for them to crack into the system such as put in a supervisory password in the BIOS so that before booting into Windows environment, you must enter the supervisory password. However, this password can also be cleared by using a jumper on the mother board.

For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.

Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:

My arrogant and belligerant teenage stepson likes to customize the family room to his tastes rather that leave it to the generic unbiased interest of the family in general. Latest, he has designed his "my pictures" screensaver somehow to override cmos settings to illustrate various pictures of himself for unlimited time rather than allow cmos or windows to shut off the monitor after periods of inactivity. Typically he would prefer to be confrontational about it, fight and argue over the issue stressing out his depressed mom in the process; I do not want to fight-I just want my monitor to go off after a while of non-use and not be kept on by XP. Sorry about all the disfunctional family issues I had to mention for background. It is hard dealing with an aggressive controlling kid. Hello @jrmorgado31 Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. Do you talk about Windows password or BIOS/startup password ?  * If related to Windows account password, please check this forum thread >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-forgot-my-password-can-HP-help... * If related to BIOS/startup password before Windows loads In this case, please enter some password (wrong password) 3 times, press ENTER and you should receive a new window stating system disabled and a code similar to this one (For HP Mini, should be 10 characters) :  Please, take note of the system disabled/halted code (write it down).  Visit this web site >> https://bios-pw.org/and enter the system disabled codeClick on "Get password" button there and you will receive your unlock code. Take note of the HP computers password and enter it in the system disabled screen , press ENTER. This will unlock your BIOS/reset security settings and PC should be able to start Windows (if WIndows can load).  Let me know how it goes. Provide your feedback and update.

Anyway they have given me five alrady and non of them work. They say I will have to ship the unit in to Chicago and they will fix it. That will take a WEEK that I do not have. How can I reset the password? The settings in the BIOS I need to change are locked and the message says the setup is locked-enter the admin pw into SECURITY UNLOCK SETUP to enable changes. Any advice is welcomed!

A:BIOS Admin Password Reset

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 115 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

Hello, I can enter my HP laptop BIOS as guest, but not as Admin.I bought the laptop with the package opened, at a discounted price, but it had a BIOS Admin password set by the PC store. I want to reset this password. I contacted the Romanian HP Support Center and a gentleman told me I have to wait for the US support team to create a binary file that will allow me to reset the password.I waited for approximately 10 days without ANY feedback. The PC store told me I can send the laptop to them to try and reset the password, but I would rather reset the password myself. Does it take such a long time to create that executable? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

A:reset BIOS Admin password

Hello @hpprobook650g1,  We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.  Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. SMC file made as per the unit.                                    When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee
