T570 - Botched DrvErase.exe -- Password Required

Q: T570 - Botched DrvErase.exe -- Password Required

Hi All, After attempting to run DrvErase.exe earlier today, the computer powered down during the "Normal Erase" and now it requires a password when trying to boot up, it has a padlock icon. No previous startup password has been set. Any ideas on what the utility would have set the password to? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
Log in to Microsoft account, enable all of them, reboot and untick "User must enter password....." using netplwiz from this tutorial:Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup - Windows 10 Forums
Then do the option two from:Require Sign-in on Wakeup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Hi guys,

I wanted to move some files to my laptop to save PC disk space (i have 80GB)
I connected my PC with laptop over LAN. There was no problems connecting it, but when i go to "Run" and type \\192.168.0.2\FolderShare, small window pops up with User and Password fields. I don't know what password should i enter. I've done this before, and i've never been asked for password. Anyone knows this?

A:LAN Password required

Use a userid/password that's already defined on the 192.168.0.2 machine and has access rights to the folder/files you want

/* edit */
Oh.. you also might be forced to create a non-blank password for the userid if it's currently blank. There's actually a method to turn off the non-blank password requirement but for your own network security, its best to use non blank passwords

I have it set to only require a password on boot up. It's been working fine for over a year. Now it is requiring the password every time a key is hit to bring the screen back up. I have checked the settings at least 4 times and they have not changed. I hope someone can help with this before I go completely bald from tearing my hair out!

You say the problem is with visiting web sites but you never say if you are using a web browser or some type of FTP program.

If you are using a web browser, you never say which one you are using.

You mention Mozilla, which suggests you may be using the Firefox web browser but you never say what the version number is.

If you are using a fairly current version of Firefox, it does have the option of letting the user add a master password to protect the saved user names and passwords for web sites. You have to enter the master password before being able to access the protected list.

Just recently, when starting up my PC, I have a new start up screen that requests my outlook password before I can proceed.

Lokking into settings, I found that I had a microsoft account which allowed my to purchase stuf for xbox etc. Not needing the account, I deleted my PC from the account but I still havet o give my outlook password before my pc can be opened. This is a new event so presumably I can undo without a restore. Does anyone have any ideas please

Hi,
I am trying to help my wife, Sue, get her new ASUS laptop with Windows Eight onto our local network.
Everything went fairly well - she can get to the Internet and can use the network printer. We see storage devices on the local network but she can not open the public folder on a network connected external drive. She is asked for a ID and password. We have no idea what this should be. Her old vista laptop and my vista desktop do not ask for an id or password to get to the public folder. We have password protection off in the network and sharing center. She would like access without supplying a id or password. If this can't be done how does she find or assign the id and password?
Thanks

Try entering a username and password for an account on the PC you're trying to access. There should be a box to check for "remember this password" or something similar. It the username and password work, checking that box will stop you from having to enter it every time.

In our office, we have 12 computers 'networked' with each other. Straightly, I cannot connect to one PC which is my boss' PC BUT he can connect to mine. I need to 'share'/submit my report documents from my PC to his using network sharing & vice-versa.

My PC is running windows 98. (Quite new old PC)
My boss' is windows 2000 Server.

I've installed File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service on my pc.
I changed the workgroup name using our network workgroup name. Restarted & open Network Neighbourhood. Ok, I can see other computers.

But the main problem occured after I was trying to connect to my boss' PC (from the Network Neighbourhood). After I double-clicked, a box came out asking me for password. Here's the details:

Title: Enter Network Password
Text: you must supply a password to make this connection.
Resource: \\...\IPC$

I've tried adding a user from my boss' pc (by right-clicking My Computer > Manage > Local Users and Groups. Right-click 'Users' folder & click 'add user'). I key in my Username.
Then, in his shared folder (from his pc), I set the sharing permission already (by adding my username).

But I still cannot connect to his PC BUT he can connect to mine.

I even set his administrator password & of course this doesn't help at all.

What is this IPC$ for? remote connection?? I don't think so..

Can help?

I have 2 PC (desktop and notebook) running Windows 7 Pro
One of the drives of my desktop is shared
I recently reinstalled my notebook (w<hich was previously running 7 pro as an upgrade of Visata Pro)
Since this reinstallation, each time I want to access the shared drive from my notebook, I'm obliged to enter the account and password, even if I validate the "remember" option

Does anybody have an idea of how I can fix that?

A:Password required at each connection

To access the drive without restrictions you should be able to get around the password problem by going into the Security tab and allowing for permissions there, adding Everyone to the permissions list and adding checkmarks to the desired share level should work. Although from a security stand point you would be better off sharing the entire User folder instead.

It also can help to turn off password protected sharing in the Advanced Sharing settings both Public and Work-Home.

I just got myself into this fix on my recent 'old' XP Pro PC. I have another thread running regarding my "silent" computer which Etaf is kindly helping with but for now everything is at a stop, because in the meantime I thought I would use System Restore to go back about a month before I obtained the computer in case the sounds could be enabled that way; the restore went OK but now, on starting, it is asking me to enter a password, which is not the same as the one which was in use when I obtained it (and had since disabled). I had hoped to use Safe mode to get into Restore in order to undo my restore but even in safe mode I am asked for this unknown password.

So now I am completely locked out unless anyone has an answer.

Ok, I searched but didn't know how to word it properly, so here is my post. Basically, I want to disable the log on when you come back from a hybernation mode. In otherwords, if you walk away from your laptop for a while, and the computer went to sleep, you wake it by shakeing the mouse or hitting space bar, something. Well, after I do this it comes to a screen with the user name and I have to click it to get on. I just want it to wake up to my desktop.

Normally if you go to Start>>>control panel>>>Power Options>>>Change plan settings>>>Change advanced power settings>>>Require password on wakeup>>>here is wher you can change the option to NO or Yes, well, I want it No and I can't, it is ghosted out and stuck on yes...

Ohh, this is for an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate Student 32 bit

Any ideas?

Hi All.

Ever since I changed my online Microsoft password, I've been getting an error when booting my desktop with Win 8.1 saying (upon boot up) that the password is incorrect. I have to manually type it in now.

When I turn on the computer, I previously had not needed to enter a password at all (control userpasswords2 shut it off). When I check my password under the User Accounts section, manually typing my password gets me in fine and when I go to the change password section, it won't let me change the current password to itself, so I know that it's stored my new password in that section.

I don't want to type in a password at all when I boot up.

It's as if my desktop has the old password stored somewhere and is trying to use that, but I can't figure out where that would be or why it's even checking for a password in the first place.

How do I either shut off password checking entirely (userpasswords2 is still set to not require a password, so I don't know why it's still checking) or change whatever password is still being used?

thanks in advance,

Frank

Hello Gang,
Wonder if someone can offer some useful suggestions to assist me. My girlfriend's daughter has a Pakard Bell KAV60 netbook running Windows 7 Starter Edition. There are 4 IDs on the machine, 3 of which have passwords for users that no longer have access to the machine and need to be removed. One of those 3 is an administrator account. The 4th ID (no password) is a Standard User Account. I've been charged with the task of cleaning up the machine and removing the IDs no longer required.

Having access to the non-administrator account, I'm unable to install software to clean it up and perform all the necessary updates to bring it up to date.
Having successfully used HIRENS CD in the past to access older machines in a similar position, I thought I'd give it a try on this machine, but this is the first time I'm having to install HIRENS CD onto a USB Stick and boot from that instead of the CD drive. Here are the steps I followed:

Downloaded the HIRENS CD Zip file on a separate machine
Installed the ISO image to the freshly formatted 2GB SanDisk (Cruzer Micro) USB stick, using unetbootin-windows-608
Changed Boot Order on the Packard Bell KAV60 to "USB" in the BIOS, saved the change
Rebooted with USB connected

The result.... The machine hung, displaying the following message:

on my notebook system, running Win2000 Pro, a setting that controls requiring a 'windows 2000 startup password' apparently somehow got set wrong.

The system has always been set to 'Auto Login' with Administrator username and password, since I'm the only user of this system, and this is working fine.
However, just BEFORE doing the Auto Login, the system has started coming up now with a dialog box that says "Windows 2000 startup password", and says my system has been configured to require one.

This dialog never used to come up, perhaps I inadvertently changed a setting. I can get past it by pressing enter because I had never SET a system password in the first place. After this dialog closes (i.e. startup password accepted), the normal auto-login process of Administrator occurs as it should.

I would like to know how to stop this 'Windows 2000 startup password required' dialog box from coming up... I can't find information on it anywhere in the system or on the internet. I would like to configure it to either automatically enter, or to not require a startup password in the first place. does ANYONE know where on the system this is controlled? When I upgraded to Win10 from Win 8.1 this value changed to [Required], which is a pain because I like to just hit the spacebar and have the machine ready without the extra fuss (many times a day.)

No one untrusted has physical access to the machine, but it wakes up at 4am and does updates and maintenance and such, and is connected to the Internet 24/7, so my question is: does having [Password protection on wakeup] set to 'Required' significantly help protect it from attackers over the Internet when it is asleep?

I imagine that attacks of that nature, hard as they may be at this point, by definition of complexity have access at a level such that this setting is irrelevant. Or not?

It almost goes without saying that I'd prefer an answer from someone particularly knowledgeable on this exact setting, and not just the, ?Well, it sure can't hurt? answer that is obvious. (I apologize if that is too blunt. )

It doesn't protect you from attacks over the internet (that's also not its intended purpose), unless you are using a VNC type of remote desktop solution. Ctrl-alt-del is more a protection from opportunists passing by your computer (physically).

Remote connectivity options like RDP always require valid credentials before a connection is established, even if the computer is unlocked on your side.

If you left the password field empty then you simply need to hit enter instead of typing anything in the password box.

I am assuming you converted your Microsoft account to a local one by clicking on "Sign in with a local account instead" in Settings -> Accounts. If you did it in some other way perhaps you can explain.

Thankyou again for solving my last problem of ethernet not working . Since i have it all back up and running i have discovered that the pc now requests a password after the intial startup of windows before it lets me in. There are 3 accounts on the pc i have set up and mine uses a password. I have never had to use the password like this before on start up which means that anyone else using my pc has to ask me to sign in for them and i dont want this. I set the accounts up with mine password protected so that it was easy. How did this happen? also when playing games my ping is usually around 48 for local servers and 108 for usa servers. It has shot up to 158 for english use. This is all since my ethernet cable went down yesterday can anyone help?

Hi, my sister has a Dell desktop pc, her daughter has done something to it so she cannot log in to it, as soon as it is switched on it is asking for a system password to be entered - she has never set one for this pc - any ideas how she can overcome this?

A:System Password required - Dell pc

we cannot assist with bypassing password
At what point does it ask - as windows Loads or immediately the PC starts
One will be a windows password and two will be a bios password

you need to find out what her daughter changed and password used

see rules

Hi, I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

Can anyone tell me what's happening with this login error issue and how to fix it?

Thanks

A:Password not required: "Password Incorrect" on startup

Hello MechaKong, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This usually happens when your password had not been entered correctly in netplwiz, or you had changed your password and didn't update it in netplwiz.

You could go through netplwiz again to enter your password again to sort it.

Hi,
I have a two computer network set-up consisting of one WinXP Home and one WinXP Pro, both on SP2. Recently, SyncToy stopped working on the XP Home machine - it said that the target server was not available. The shares could be seen in 'My Network Places'. Clicking on one of these shares prompted me for a password for a username of 'Guest'. I took a guess at this based on passwords I commonly use and eventually found it. SynToy started to workagain. I have to do this now for each session.

What has changed and how can I put it back as it was, with no password?

Thanks for your time,
John.

Hi,

When I travel; I set my home computer to require a complex Windows Password. But when I'm home, I'd like it to start up and not ask for a password.

I've done something wrong and now when I start up the computer, it requires me to click on the Enter key before it will finish loading Windows7. How can I change the setting so that it will always finish loading Windows without any intervention?

A big thanks,

/ Gary E.

Hello Gary,

You should be able to use the method in the tutorial below to have Windows log you in automatically at startup.

Hope this helps,
