HDMI Scaling -> Blurry Screen

Q: HDMI Scaling -> Blurry Screen

I'm using an AMD radeon 7800 Series graphics card that I have connected LG LED flatscreen to. However I couldn't visualise the whole picture on mys screen, so I tried "zooming out" using the HDMI scaling feature, and 4% scaling makes the whole picture fit on my screen. On any % of scaling apart from 0%, the whole screen is quite blurry, but it is very clear on 0%. I don't want it on 0% as I cant see the edges of my picture (start menu, close/minimise buttons, tabs on browser etc). Is there anyway that I can see the whole picture and have the picture clear?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My main monitor is 2560x1440 and my 2nd monitor is 1920x1080. When I set both to 100% or 125% scaling they both look fine. If I set my main monitor to 125% and my 2nd monitor to 100% the 2nd monitor is blurry.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks!

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which has a resolution of 3200 x 1800 which I run at 200% scaling.
I have just bought an Asus PB278Q which has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 which I run at 100% scaling, and which I want to use for development.
However, all content on the external display is blurry.
So I tried the option for setting one scaling of 100% for all displays and now the external display is sharp as it should be, but the internal display is obviously useless in desktop mode because everything is too small. I verified that the external
display is being driven at the correct resolution via the monitor's own information option which says 2560 x 1440 at 60Hz (I was at least pleased that the Intel HD 4400 graphics were able to drive both displays at their proper resolution with 32-bit
colour and at 60Hz). I have a fully updated version of Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1.
So my guess is that Windows is rendering my external display off-screen at 200% and then crunching it down to 100% via bitmap processing.
Is this how Microsoft have implemented per-display scaling? There is no way I can tolerate such blurriness on the external display especially as I intend to use it mainly for development so clarity of text is important.
I've posted to this forum in the hope there will be other people with a similar setup. Is anyone able to help resolve this or is it simply a bad implementation of per-display scaling?

Hi there,

I recently got a 1440p (25 inches only) monitor and so I adjusted scaling to 125% to make it easier for me to use Windows 7.

However in some cases, the icons of third party applications are jagged. I will list the circumstances where this is/ is not the case:
a) Only third party applications, icons like Windows Explorer are unaffected.
b) Only when 'never combine' is turned on
c) Only when the application is open - does not appear when they are closed and the icon only is displayed
d) Doesn't happen to Foobar for some reason

See this image for an illustration. Ignore the Xonar DGX icon, that's always been ugly (but again only when I open it - perhaps someone can help with that too?)

Is this a known issue or is there a way around it? Thanks.

Hello, I have a T460 laptop with the FHD IPS (1920 x 1080) display that has windows 10 preinstalled. If I change the resolution lower then 1920x1080 the screen gets completely blurry. I'm also encountering scaling issues, As default it was set on 150%, The problem is that certain applications are blurry . The solution I found so far to fix that is to check the checkbox 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' but that makes fonts, ... just way too small making the application very unpleasant to work with Changing the scaling to 100% fixes everything, but that makes everything too small I wonder if anyone else using tesame display is encountering these issues and what your solution is to this?

A:T460 Blurry display and scaling issues

I've got the same dpi (14" FHD screen). And I am developer by trade. The problem is the way Windows programs had been written. Programmers for years didn't have to worry about different dpi, most displays were about 96. So many of them used pixels and not logical units, so many Windows programs to this day have screen organized around fixed number of pixels. There's no quick fix other than look for programs developed with different dpi-s in mind. I.e. I used in the past Crimson Editor which was really nice but it didn't support higher dpi so found Notepad++. Unfortunately there are more complex programs with steep learning curve wich are not easy to switch (video editors, bloody Lightworks which was such a pain to learn, is still in 96 dpi world).

Hi, i'm (as many of you guys, as i can see on those forums) experiencing DPI-Awareness issues on my brand new laptop. I'm running windows 10 and thanks to those forums, i was able to partitialy fix it. All of those solutions, i could find here, worked for me (custom scaling level in control panel, some .exe file, even creating batch file with some registry changes a putting it in the startup folder). The problem is, that with every sinlge one of those solutions, when i plug in a second display, the scaling is applied to it as well. Which i dont want to be happening, i want the second display to be at 100%, while my laptop screen at 125%. Is there ANY way, how to achieve this without a blurry text in some apps?

I have the scaling on my laptop display set to 125% and the scaling on my external monitor set to 100%. Both displays have 1920x1080 resolution. The laptop is connected to the monitor using a VGA cable via a OneLink adaptor. Windows Store applications, Windows Explorer, and Microsoft Edge look sharp on both displays. However some applications that I use a lot only look sharp on one display and look a bit blurry/fuzzy on the other. Examples are Google Chrome and Microsoft Word. They are sharp on whichever display is set as primary, and blurry/fuzzy on whichever is non-primary (i.e. it changes when I change the primary display). If I set the scaling to be the same on both displays (i.e. both 100% or both 125%) these applications look sharp on both displays. Do others experience this issue?Apart from setting both displays to the same scaling (which is not ideal) is there anythig I can do to resolve this? Thanks

This question I'm sure has been addressed many times, yes? I just made a purchase of a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1. The system is a pearl accept for the font display in the legacy applications and OS widgets. The only solution seems to be to adjust the font scaling and set the DPI value to 125%. This makes everything smaller, yuck! My question, has anyone seen the same on any build 10586 system and then see the problem go away by installing the August update build 14393? Because that is the only software related change I haven't tried. Updating Intel display drivers had no effect.

Hi I have an
ASUS CM1730,CM1830

Running Win 7 Home P
Here is my issue I decided to use an HDMI connection for my monitor, worked great, Looked great. I run 1928x1080 on ASUS monitor, I noticed a scaling issue, the screen was undersized with 1" of black around the edge, (irritating but I like the res for Photoshop). I tried the only option on the monitors physical menu , and changed from full to overscale , didn't work.I tried to open Catalyst wouldn't open, so I went to ASUS and (first uninstalling the driver) loaded the update. In device manager the graphics card changed to AMD 760g (no big deal same device different name) still had the same issue so I opened Catalyst CC all the old options were gone no graphics adjustment available. Went directly to ATI and downloaded there vir. same thing. Installed the Hot fix and for a moment the issue was resolved but then Blue screen, restart and its back. I tried repeating this procedure, even going so far as editing the Of all incidences of ATI?AMD graphics. Now I'm on a mission just can't go back to VGA and don't want to live with the scaling issue. Idealy I would like CCC to have all the display options it used to have ( I know this is easily solved with a scaling adjustment) any suggestions? P.S. start page is full scale.

Hello, I built my new computer about a week ago and was running it off a single 19" Tevion TV while I waited for the HDMI cables to arrive so I could setup my second monitor.

They arrived yesterday and when I plugged in my 32" JVC LT-32DA30J there was overscanning and the bluriness. I fixed the overscanning in the TV's menu and now the size is correct but even at native resolution, the JVC monitor is still quite blurry and is a strain to look at and concentrate on.

Plugging the HDMI cable into my Tevion monitor made that go blurry as well so it could be the HDMI cable or the motherboard ports (when I first got the PC, the VGA port had the same problem but once updated it looked normal)

Does anyone know of a fix to this ? Or can at least suggest what part is going wrong so I can try and fix it ?

What I have tried:
Changing the resolution - all the different resolutions all show the same blurriness
Changing the refresh rate - problem persists through all refresh rates
Changing monitor settings - As above, changing these settings didn't help with anything

Any help is very appreciated , I've been trying to fix this problem for most of yesterday

Hiya people I am having a problem with my TV or it could be my graphics card anyway I have the Nvidia gforce 9500 GT connected to my 32" LCD tv via DVI to HDMI but when I have it connected via HDMI port 1 on my TV the picture becomes blurry and I have scaling problems but I can fix the scaling problems. Anyway once I sort out the scaling problem the picture looks blurry and it looks like the brightness is set too high I have tried changing it in the nvidia control pannel and the same with my tv but it still stays the same.

Anyways when i connect it via HDMI port 2 on my TV the picture runs perfect the brightness is fine as well as the scaling and also the picture looks alot more vibrant and does not have the grayish look and I dont have to mess about with any of the settings. and when I have my Xbox 360 or my ps3 on this port the picture looks hell of alot better as the picture looks more vibrant and the black seems to be better on this port too

anyways anyone know if there is a fix for this!? if so HELP!

if you need to know any of my specs or settings or make of tv let me know and I shall post it as soon as i can

So
Just installed Win7 x64 in a GPT partition alongside my OEM Win8.1.1 on my new laptop, got all the drivers installed, everything is running relatively smooth as it can be for running a 6 yr old OS on a brand new PC (yes folks, Win7 is *that* old) . I have my scaling set to 200% as my display resolution is 3840x2160, so need it to be at least 200% in order to see anything

But since that scaling setting is only in my user account (although it is the only user account on the PC) , when I initially boot up the computer, the scaling/resolution is off, and it shows up in a box that doesn't fill the entire screen. Once I type in my password and it logs in then it fills the screen. If i were to subsequently lock the computer the scaling/resolution would still be normal since I am already logged in. Its a minor issue but bothersome nonetheless.

Hello everyone!I have a question that I have not been able to find a proper answer to, and I'm starting to think it's impossible to do.I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 with a 4K screen. I normally don't care for 4K but I thought it would be useful to futureproof my investment as much as possible, and I believe the 4K screen to be far brighter and more color accurate according to all the research I did prior. Now to the issue: Windows 10 scaling is a bit wonky and I don't really care for the added pixel density at this present time. I tried to set the computer to 1920x1080 on the display settings and it works fine, but it looks blurry. It appears to scale the pixels in a "soft" way. I'm looking for a way to scale the pixels in a "hard" way, jagged edges and all. Is it possible?Photoshop users might understand better if I describe it as follows: I want "nearest neighbor" scaling, not "bicubic" or "bilinear".Any idea how I can do this?

A:Scaling 1920x1080 to 4K screen without interpolation

It's not possible - notebook panels display an optimum image only at their native resolution.  Anything lower is going to be blurry.
If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment from Dell, arrange a return for a system with an FHD panel.

Just got a Pentium powered Micro and hooked it up to my tv to use as a HTPC.  The image is set at 1920 X 1080 which should match my TV just fine but the image is slightly too large.  I am losing a thin band all around the screen.  Only the top half of the task bar is visible and only the upper right corner of the windows logo is visible.  Adjusting the scaling is not available in the Intel control panel.
It was running through my AVR.  I tried connecting it to the TV directly and the problem remained.  I then tried connected it directly to a 1280 X 720 and it still had the same issue.
I can use a lower resolution and it will scale up correctly but he image is degraded.
I can't be the only one with this issue.  Anyone else know of a fix?

Yesterday I installed the Nvidea driver for my Geforce 210 (desktop resize and scaling options) in Windows 8. After the update, my screen flickering black. System restore and it still works again.

Now I have a problem with the scaling of the screen, because the corners are not visible at my screen, and I want to retain my recommended and native screen resolution, to avoid a blurry screen.

Are there possibilities in Windows without the NVIDIA tool, to scale mij screen smaller than 100 percent ( the Windows tool make text smaller or larger will only work ABOVE 100%, and not smaller)

Any ideas?, thanks!

A:scaling screen smaller then 100% to retain native res

After you installed the driver, did you reboot? By default, NVidia does not force a reboot, and quite often you get that flickering until a reboot is done.

If you immediately did a system restore, you may have corrupted the install of the driver. I'd suggest installing it again (btw, they just released a new driver a couple of days ago that fixes a security vulnerability, so you should make sure you have that version)..

Hey guys, was wondering if someone could help me out with this. When I was using Windows 7 I would connect my computer to a TV via HDMI to watch films, it had no problems scaling correctly, everything that I saw on my desktop screen was on my TV. After upgrading to Windows 10 the resolution on the TV seems to be off, it cuts off most of my desktop so I can't access the bottom taskbar or any icons on the sides of my screen. I've looked into the display settings but I can't seem to set a resolution for a second screen, and using the scaling slider doesn't help much.

My desktop is 1920x1200 and the TV is 1080, even when setting my desktop to 1080 the sides are still cut off. What's going on here? Does anyone have any advice or maybe point me in the right direction on what to look for?

Thank you for your time! I'll be checking back frequently so if there's other info you might need just let me know.

ok first of all, I'm not sure if blurry is the right word, but everything is smudgy and i barely see anything.

well this is what happened:
There was an electrical power interruption, and my computer didn't work afterwards, but I've managed to fix it.
However, when it finally turned on, the screen got all smudgy!

At first I thought my monitor was ruined, but when I go to safe-mode, everything looks perfect.
(the smudge starts only after boot, not during. right from the "logging into windows XP" blue screen).

This is what I've tried:
*Plug off the monitor, and re-plug it after a few minutes.
*Reset all monitor settings into factory settings (using the menu button on the monitor)

oh and btw, 2 little notes:
*When I pressed that button on my monitor, the menu that appeared looked perfect, and not smudgy at all.
*I've tried to take a screenshot of the problem:
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1327/61811928.jpg
It's not so smudgy here in most places, but trust me on other sites and applications it is 100 times worse.

A huge thanks in advance for anyone that has an idea about thjis problem.
And sorry for my grammar and typos (I know I have a few grammar mistakes, but the typos are because I can't really see what I'm writing)

My PC Specs are as follows:
Windows 7 64 Bit Edition
Intel i7 Quad-Core Processor 2.80 Ghz per core
ATI Radeon 5870 Graphics Card
6 Gigabytes of RAM
Monitor: HG216DP0

I have the latest version of Catalyst for the graphics card. The monitor does not have a driver for Windows 7 so I'm not sure what to do there. My resoultion is the native resolution of the monitor.

If anyone can please help me with this problem, I would be very appreciative.

I have a Dell Latitude 630, windows 7 professional 32-bit that it was working really good (issues at all), then 4 weeks ago i bought a external monitor and i started using it since then. Yesterday I disconnect the monitor from my laptop and i noticed that screen (everything in it) was blurry. I can see the icons and everything else but all letters and words are so blurry. As a beginner, i did the basic troubleshooting:

1.- Uninstalled the driver (nvidia nvs 135n) from my control panel then install it again. (that did not fix the problem).
2.- Did a restore (4 weeks ago) when the screen was working fine. (That did not fix the problem).
3.- Changed the resolution for the display. (that made it worst, so i put it back where it was).
4.- Scanned for Virus and did not find anything. (Used kaspersky internet security)

The weird part is that when i plug in the external monitor it works just fine. Any help out there will be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Sidney

Hello,

A few weeks ago, I recieved my new PC which came with Windows 7 Home Edition OS installed. When I got to the desktop, there was noticible blur compared to my last OS (Windows XP), which looked much more sharper. The blur is not so bad that I cannot read, but it is still blurry enough to cause a headache.

My PC Specs are as follows:
Windows 7 64 Bit Edition
Intel i7 Quad-Core Processor 2.80 Ghz per core
ATI Radeon 5870 Graphics Card
6 Gigabytes of RAM
Monitor: HG216DP0

I have the latest version of Catalyst for the graphics card. The monitor does not have a driver for Windows 7 so I'm not sure what to do there. My resoultion is the native resolution of the monitor (1680x1050).

I really miss the joy it was to see everything on my screen as sharp and clear as it was on XP. If anyone can please help me with this problem, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks.

Hello!

This is my first post here because I seriously need some help with my computer.

For the past week my screen has suddenly gone blurry/green/purple ish and I can't do anything, have to restart my computer. This usually happens when I am playing games. I have been searching for answers but never got any because my computer skills are so bad, so I decided to ask for help on a forum. First it happened 3 times, then it suddenly stopped for 4 days or so, then it started again yesterday.

This started to happen after I downloaded the newest update for my gcard. It's a Nvidia GeForce GTX560 ti, the update was 296.10 if I remember right. I don't know what more to write.

Thank you for your answers.

If the previous driver worked better, why did you change it? Can you revert to the previous one?

Hi there,Find out what the native resolition is for that particular model, for example 1024x768 as well as the DPI(dots per inch), for example 96 dpi. Once you find out the native settings, Right-Click the Desktop, choose Properties, and in the popup window click the Settings tab. Set the slider to your supported resolution then click the Advanced tab, and make sure that your DPI is set to the recommended level. If these are all where they should be, you should also make sure the settings on the actuall display itself are correct. Many LCD displays these days have an auto adjust, or return to factory settings option. You may also want to set the font to Cleartype which is recommended for LCD displays. Right-Click the Desktop, choose Properties, and in the popup window click the Appearance tab. Click Effects, and choose the Cleartype option from the dropdown list.Hope this helps, nos

I'm using Windows Vista (Home Premium), 64-bit. This morning I was reading a word document when this happened: (notice the pattern)

I'm not sure what is causing this, but the problem re-occurs roughly every half hour, especially I'm running multiple programs. Sometimes, the screen is completely covered with this pattern.

Is this something wrong with windows or is a hardware problem?

Thanks for your help!

It doesn't seem to be a BSOD, and I never get a memory dump from the crash.

EDIT: nope the screen shot didn't work, I'll try to draw an example

Hi there, I just received my P50 a week ago. The screen is very blurry in most of the apps I use such as Google Chrome, Adobe DC, Microsoft office 2013. Any suggestions! If I can't solve this I will definitely return this very expensive $2000 computer. I have windows 10, Nvidia M200M 4GB, and FHD screen. Initially, I thought that the 4K screen would 've been a better option, however, I just saw someone posted that he has the same problem with his P50 that has a 4K screen.

A:My new Thinkpad P50 has blurry screen

Not sure what kind of "blurry" you're talking about.  But I guess you were talking about the ugly font rendering Windows 10 introduced.  That is Microsoft to blame, not Lenovo. You may try the following options: Option 1: Use a different OS.  Such as Windows 7, Linux, Mac OS. Option 2: Use 3rd-party software (such as MacType) to migitate the Windows 10 rendering problem. The fact is, you'll see this kind of "blurry" on any Windows 10 laptops, not just P50.

I just installed Win. 8.1 and am using an RCA 26 Inch LCD as a monitor.  Everything was fine when running XP, but now everything is very squished and blurry.  When I go into display settings, there are 3 choices to make, 1020x768 = everything looks just great, very proportionate, except that I'm missing approx 1/2 of the screen,  Then 1280x1024 which I'm using now, everything fits on screen, but it's smushed down and blurry, and 1600x1200 which just goes to a blue screen.

My old XP had a setting which was perfect.  I still have the driver I used for it on USB.

Thanks.

EDIT:  Just updated the driver and everything looks great!
