Preferred Solution: Explorer.exe unable to locate

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

That's a critical system file. You need to contact the computer manufacturer and request the Windows installation disks. Then you need to buy an external optical drive. Then run a Windows repair.

This application has failed to start because Microsoft-Windows-System-Debug-L1-1-0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

well you may know that the start menu etc uses explorer.exe to run

i would say you need to run sfc /scannow

Right off the bat i knew this was not a good sign since explorer is so well integrated into windows. I tryed to remove some spyware and upon reboot everything was fine until you choose your user. Once that happens a error box comes up reading:

Explorer.exe - Unable to locate component

Failed to start because wininet.dll was not found. Re-installing this may fix the problem.

I tryed booting from the windows xp home edition cd but was unsuccesful.

I really have some important files on the pc and home i can get this issue handled without doing anything crazy like taking the HD out and moving the files to this pc.

Edit: Important note: The start menu and no icons load up. Just my background.
Thanks for the help!

Do you still have the installation CD that you used to install the OS. If so I would try either doing a repair install of the OS by booting to the CD or go to the recovery console by booting to the cd and run a chkdsk /r and see if it can find and repair any bad sectors of the drive that may have been point to the DLL location.

I was browsing the net the other day and window popped up saying that AVG had detected a virus in C:/Documents and Settings and that a scan should be run to get rid of it. I shut down all of my programs and ran the anti-virus to search in C:/Documents and Settings. It came up empty. I then checked for updates, found one, and then restarted AVG and had it scan the whole C drive while I did some housework and showered. Coming back to the computer about an hour later I saw that AVG had "Encountered an unknown error and had to be terminated". Ok I thought, so I restarted the computer and ran AVG again and let it run while doing my homework. Again, it crashed!

Is there something wrong with my virus scan and what else can I do? I will post a HJT log asap.

A:ypager.exe - unable to locate dll help!!!!!

Hiyas

Looks like you're using either WinNT or Win2000, so Msconfig is out of the question. Looks like Regedit is the only other option unless you have something like TweakUI loaded.

Click Start -> Run -> Type Regedit -> Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Open the Software key -> Scroll down to Microsoft and open it -> Windows -> Current version -> Run. Check what's starting in the Run key, look for your ypager and delete the reg value. That should sort it out hopefully.

Good luck

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I tried to run one of my games today, and I got a pop-up saying that:

Frozen Throne was unable to locate your CD-ROM drive.
Please make sure your Frozen Throne disc is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry'.

I have never gotten this error before, so I right clicked on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager. Then under DVD/CD ROM drives is has:

ASUS CD-S480/A5
HP DVD Writer 640c

Next to these names there is an icon which has an exclamation point " ! ".

I right clicked on ASUS CD-S480/A5 , then properties and the device status says:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

I am not sure what this exactly means, but I cannot load any of my games.

Greetings,

I've recently come across some trojans that were found by Symantec Endpoint Protection and Avira auto-scans. The notifications popped up after I brought my laptop out of hibernation (which is how I normally leave it when unused).

Symantec tells me that cleaning and quarantining was not successful with a handful of the trojans and is located under:

but I cannot find them.

I am currently running Firefox 3.6.3

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Your first move should be to turn on Windows Update and get your system updated. You are still on SP2 which is no longer supported by Microsoft, the Windows Update will get you up to SP3. That alone may cure the problem.

Follow this guide to slipstream your copy of XP with SP3, that can then be used to run the System File Checker which will replace any missing or damaged files.

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/Slipstreaming_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3.html

To run the system file checker Click on Start and type sfc /scannow (exactly as written here with the gap) into the search box and hit enter. Follow the prompts and insert the slipstreamed disc when requested.

Hi,

You may have an issue with DNS resolution of specific sites. This happens from time to time, and is normally an ISP issue. Let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD

TRACERT <URL of problem site>

<URL of problem site> is the actual URL of the site you're having issues with.

Right click in the command prompt, use Select All, and paste the results into a message here.

What's your OS.

It could be an infection, scan with Malwarebytes and / or SuperAntispyware.

Alternatively, it may just be a video driver problem.

The one thing i see right from the start is you need to update xp to SP3. sp2 is no longer supported.as to the others it means something got corrupted somewhere and isnt able to work correctly. when you used the cleaner i truly hope a registry cleaner wasnt used as that might be why theres problems.

Good day!

I need some help here. I'm suspecting there might be a virus residing in my pc due to:

1. Windows explorer responds very slow. It takes about a minute to load.
2. Ran eset online scanner and it found/deleted pc-off.bat.
3. MalwareBytes pops up with an alert "successfully blocked access to potentially malicious websites"
then it gives an IP address.(Both incoming and outgoing)
4. CLI.EXE(.NET Framework) error on startup.
5. Can't install AVG.
Noticed this just this day, ran malwarebytes, superantispyware, eset online scanner.

Hi all,

Don't know if any of you can help...

I recently downloaded something but the file didn't save to the usual place. Instead, the file has been saved to a place on my PC which I am finding impossible to locate (the downloading was successfully completed after a short while by-the-way)

According to the program I used to download the file it has been saved to...

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

(I'm not sure why the file was saved here!)

When I go to C:\Documents and Settings\ I am unable to find the 'User' folder and so cannot goto (or see) the other folders where this file has been saved. The only folder I can see in Documents and Settings is 'All Users'

I'm guessing the folder is hidden, in explorer tried going to 'tools - folder options - View (tab) - and click show hidden files and folders'

You should be able to get there now.

Hey all, apparently on my family laptop a program was recently removed or something, and now I get an error message stating "This application has failed to start because MFC71U.DLL was no found. Re-Installing the application may fix this program.

I've searched to find out what VCUServe is, and apparently it's The Vaio installed camera component in the laptop. How can I go about getting this message to go away? I've heard there's a run command that can locate the origin of this problem and replace it.

If not, will simply finding a download for this VCUServe stop the problem? It's just a tad bit annoying, even though we don't use the camera.

For almost every file I have on my computer, I get an error message that often doesn't let me access the file.

For example:

It says...
rundll32.exe - Unable to Locate Component
This application failed to start because netbmrgxkmb.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

The problem is that this happens with every application I try to open. Some still work, but many do not (like Firefox, Time/date on my computer, System Restore, etc)

I have searched everywhere online for this file but cannot seem to find it.

Please help.

Much appreciated. I have Windows XP by the way

Hi guys:

We have 3 computers connected to a hub forming a LAN using a DSL modem for shared internet access. One of the computers is a server and the other 2 are clients. A few weeks ago, one of the clients began receiving a recurring message: "Netscape unable to locate server xxxx" (the x's represent any website). Prior to a few weeks ago, no problem. We have attempted just about every trick in the book (reinstalling Netscape, removing and reinstalling everything in "Network", checking TCP/IP stacks, etc.). You name it, we tried it. We are using Internetshare's "All_Aboard" software. We've corresponding with them on numerous occasions, but they have no answers. We've browsed Netscape's online knowledge base at: http://help.netscape.com/ with no luck. What are 3 perplexed techies to do? As we said, only one client on this small LAN is afflicted with that dreaded error message. If someone has asolution, he/she will be given an all-expense paid vacation to the Bill Gate's estate. (just kidding) Seriously, any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A:NETSCAPE UNABLE TO LOCATE SERVER...

Did you try reinstalling the NIC on the client? Are you running NT/2000? If so, how is the administration set up? Was there one point in time a few weeks ago when it suddenly stopped finding the server? Where or what was the client doing? Or just out of the blue one morning when user logged in?

Assuming you have a good internet connection (meaning it's connecting/downloading from everywhere else ok)... there's nothing you can do about that error. It's Netscape's way of saying the page or file does not exist.

In light of the recent Microsoft "hacker" problems, I'm sure it will work if you go back and try again now. Especially if it was one of Microsoft's direct links. There was a period of 3 days where nobody was able to get anything from any of Microsoft's sites. Should be okay now...

Oh yes, one more word of advice. Microsoft doesn't like it when users go to their site with Netscape. I mean that only IE sees certain download items/buttons in their pages. Perhaps it's their way of feeling superior, or they use certain browser plugins not found in Netscape... so just use IE whenever trying to download anything from Microsoft, especially automatic updates.

Hi Folks, I have a Dell laptop, service pack 3. It is about five years old but it has been running smoothly, never had a virus or any other problem with it. I just use email and some surfing, itunes and photos, very light use. A few days ago when I tried to shut down I got a message that said something about unable to locate component "msoxlgbdru.dll and it would not shut down. I was falling alseep, so I just pushed the button to turn it off, which I have never done before. The next day when I tried to turn it on a screen came up that said "We are sorry for the inconvenience, windows did not start successfully" and then it said to start in safe mode and restore to last known good configuration. I selected safe mode, and a screen came up with a box that says "This application has failed to start because msoxlgbdru.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. It says winlogon.exe at the top. Then it just sits there and never starts in safe mode.

What can I do?

Also, I know how to do regular maintenance, disc defragmentation and virus and spyware scans, but I don't understand all of the scary lingo so if you have any advice, please talk to me like I am five LOL.

I *really* appreciate any advice! Thanks!

A:Winlogon.exe unable to locate component- help please?

I should add that I also just tried starting in safe mode using the F8 key, and when I choose "Last Good Configuration" I get the message about the msox thing again and it says reinstalling it may fix the problem.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently using Windows XP on my home computer. Today when I logged on, I immediately began receiving an extremely large amount of error notifications such as;

rundll.exe-Unable to locate component
This Application has failed to start because msmrvvmcigu.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

firefox.exe-Unable to locate component
This Application has failed to start because msmrvvmcigu.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

These are just to name a few.

It didn't matter what application or file I tried opening, I kept receiving the same error message. I wasn't sure if this was a virus so i scanned my computer with AVG anti virus, it found a few tracking cookies as well as a few adware.

I also used registry mechanic, it found over 2000 problems, in which i then chose the fix it option and it then notified me that all problems were fixed.

Unfortunately, It was not fixed because i keep getting the same error notifications over and over. I've scanned my computer several times today with registry mechanic and every single time, it still finds more problems..not 2000..but roughly around 20 problems.

I'm not sure what else I need to do, Is this a virus or was something accidentally deleted? To my knowled... Read more

Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. ? Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work.? Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes. If the ... Read more

Hi,

My wife's laptop keeps coming up with the following error message every restart-

title of message box: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe unable to locate component" and content of message: "This application has failed to start because CoreFoundation.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

When she asked me to look the screen had frozen, so i forced a shutdown, but on re-start the above appeared. I ran an AVG virus scan and it found and archived a virus, FakeAlert.SGG in the virusvault. The laptop appears to be a bit slower than normal according to my wife, so i'm wondering if there's a residual problem related to the error message?

My wife uses ITunes and i have deleted and reinstalled the programme in case it was the problem, but that hasn't sorted matters out!

Any advice on how to remove the startup error message and sort any residual problems gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Hello,

I have been struggling for a week trying to get my father in laws laptop working again. It is on Vista, 64bit. Upon start up it gets the following error. logonui.exe unable to locate component  Winmm.dll is missing. When I click OK it continues to boot but it can't authenticate anyone so a lot of programs won't start. It boots into safe mode with no apparent errors. I tried copying a Winmm.dll and re-registering it but that failed. Here is the log from Hijack this. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I'll add more information on the problem and what I have tried so far.
This computer has had the problem of looping on updates for months now. It would get updates but after restart, while it was trying to configure them it would say download failed and revert everything. I spent days on that trying to uninstall updates and reinstall them. I got it to where it had all but 2 updates and couldn't get any further. My father in law didn't want to have to reinstall all of his programs so he opted to put it off for a while to see if I came up with a fix. In the meantime, more updates tried to come in and failed. Also it looks like they installed office 2007. That may have been when this new problem started. They also installed adobe flash the same day.

This is what I have tried, in order.

1. Last known good configuration, nothing.

2. Malwarebytes
That found several things but nothing that looked too bad and removing them didn't help.

3. Startup Repair from Install disk (said found no problems)

4. System from Install Disk
I thought this one was going to work. There were lots of restore points. I picked one just before they installed office. It ran for a while then said the restore point was no good and reverted. No problem, I could just pick another. Nope. When I went back to restore all the previous restore points were just gone.

5. Clean boot

6. SFC /Scannow
Found some errors. Said it couldn't fix them... Read more

I can read the hard drive and it says 100Gb is used up but I can only see the first files and there's nothing inside them! Sometimes there are somethings inside sometimes nothing and I can't paste or cut anything into it. When I try to make a new folder or anything It says unable to locate <%3 NULL:OpText>. HEEEELP MEEEE all my precious pictures are in there and I'm a 12 year old who hasn't taken precautions to backup the files. I tried googling it but all I got was use a different pc, ubuntu, Update usb ports and it has the click of death and nothing can be done about it (which I doubt because Some files just pop up at random whenever I plug it in at various times. . I think the files are still in there since it still shows 100 Gb in use but they don't show most of the time. Do I need to have a new usb connector? sometimes the light that shows it's connected switches off. Enough details? HEEEEELP!

I did the same this where i lost all files on my memory stick of which had my school work ect on it "not happy"

Have you run Norton ghost to see if it can find the corrupt files and recover them?

Once i did this i found that most files i could get back but some were corrupt and couldnt be recovered

Try to defrag the disk aswell

Try norton ghost and post back what happens
