Q: Battery permanently 99%, no ability to turn on laptop when l...

Clean install Windows 10, all working except battery shows 99% permanently, whether plugged in or not. Battery holds enough charge for about 4 hours work, but never know when it will switch itself off! UEFI diags (latest version) don't have battery checker, but HP online check show it's fine and less than 2 years old. Previously, power options had v useful feature: turn on laptop when lid opened - that no longer available as I guess was feature of "HP Power Manager" software.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I bought a new battery for my Sony Vaio (VGP-BPL9) about 2 months ago. It worked for a while, but all of a sudden my laptop would not turn on with my battery in there.

The battery is fine, it's new. How can I fix this?

A:Laptop will not turn on with battery

It could be that the Charger can no longer handle chrging the battery and running the laptop at the same time. But how have you confirmed that the battery is good? Just because it is only 2 months old? Or has it been tested in another compatible laptop to confirm this. Also did you buy this battery from Sony or some where else?

I have just received a replacement battery for my Toshiba Satellite L770 laptop which I purchased from a preferred seller on Ebay. When I put it in the laptop to charge and use the computer while it's charging, the computer will not even turn on. I contacted the seller and this is what he replied:

"We are sorry to hear that the battery did not work well. No problem for return and you will get a full refund if we receive your return within 60 days of the purchase date.

However, before the return please check the following:
1. Make sure that your power adapter and electric outlet work well
2. Make sure that the connection part between battery and laptop is clean. If not, please clean and try the battery again
3. Many new batteries need several charge to reach the full capacity. If it is a newly received battery please recharge several times to allow the battery to its full capacity.
4. If you recently upgrade your operating system to windows 7, it may cause the battery not charge. Please go online for a solution for your specific laptop model.
5. Please check your laptop manufacturer's website for a BIOS update. Recently a few customers reported that the Bios update solved the problem having with their battery.

If none of these steps works, please return the whole package to the following address by USPS Priority or UPS ground. And please include the order receipt or shipping slip in the return package. We suggest that you use a delivery confirmation to track ... Read more

Hi, my laptop (HP ProBook 450 G0) won't turn on without the AC adapter although the battery is charged (97%). When the adapter isn't plugged in, the adapter/battery LED (on the left side of the laptop) is flashing really fast (like 20times per sec). When I press the power button, nothing happens. When the adapter is plugged in, I can turn the laptop on. The adapter/battery LED is off, Windows say "plugged in, not charging". I ran battery test and system hardware test and everything's OK. I tried hard reset (pressing power button 30 sec) and it didn't help. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I'm new here and have a problem with my laptop...it wont turn on! When you plug the power lead into the laptop, the battery light is lit but when you try to turn the laptop on it goes off- there's also a small clicking sound each time I try to turn it on. I've tried running the laptop without the battery and still no success. Also if you leave the power lead in the battery light goes off within a minute...I'm absolutly stuck with what to try next- I've used compressed air etc to try and clean everything out...still nudda.

Any help much appreciated!

A:Laptop wont turn on- dead battery?

Sounds like a failed HardDrive (if it is you will need it replaced)

Just in case though:

Remove all power (battery and adaptor)
Hold down the power ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Plug the power adaptor in only (for the moment)
Turn on

If it still doesn't work, I think the HardDrive has gone (ie clicking noise)

Last week the fuses in my bedroom suddenly blew. At the same time I heard a loud crack and the smell of burning and smoke. Nothing was on fire so I thought it was something in the wall. I checked the fuses, turned them all back on and everything was fine. I went back to my computer, finished with it and turned it to sleep mode. When I woke up the next day it wouldn't turn on again. Everytime I press the power button I see the light by the plug flash 3 times. I've looked this up and tried removing the battery, draining it of electricity... I've tried everything but I only get those 3 flashes. Have I maybe broken the charger and has my laptop drained of electricity? I can't think of anything else, but that the burning smell might have been from the charger. Can I check this somehow? Please help!!

Laptop does turn on without the battery in. I unistalled battery drivers and they re-installed automatically when turned on.When I turn on the power switch, light next to the AC plug on laptop blinks 3 times and then goes off and then nothing.I takeout the battery and laptop turns on with the Ac power. Question is why laptop dosn't turn on with the dead battery to start charging or just stay on and how can I check health of the battery without using the laptop. I attached 2 portable phone chargers to my laptop by usb connection to charge them and a few minutes later my laptop screen went black and laptop will not turn back on.
What may be the problem?

A:Attached portable phone battery to laptop now won't turn on

try disconnecting the batteries and anything else connected to the laptop
then
Lets try doing a hard reset on the Laptop

This will work for Laptops that have a removable battery
Remove the Battery
Unplug the Power Adapter/charger
Now hold the Power Button down for 60 seconds - let go of the Power Button

Now Put back JUST the power adapter/charger back into the Laptop
Start the Laptop up
If it now Starts up OK
we know its working and can put the battery back in - But first we need to use the normal windows Shutdown on the Laptop, before we can put the battery back in.
So, run the shutdown , when the laptop turns off completely
remove the power adapter/charger lead again

Put the Battery back into the laptop
Put the power adapter/charger back into the laptop
Now see if laptop starts {sometimes batteries can fail and stop the Laptop starting}
If the PC starts OK with the battery , then all should be fixed

Recently in the process of upgrading my Dell laptop the plastic cover of the CMOS battery broke off. I held the battery back into the casing with a sticker tape. The system worked fine until I took the laptop to work some weeks after. At work I pressed the power button to turn on the laptop, but it wont turn on. Absolutely no sign of power to the system; no power led, no sound or feeling at all. When I noticed some noise inside the laptop, I opened it and behold the button CMOS battery was no more in place.

I got back home and I fixed the tiny plastic that holds the battery to the casing with a little epoxy adhesive, and used the opportunity to replace a new battery. After coupling the machine back the condition remained the same. Any assistance from this great forum would be appreciated to be able to get my laptop up and running again. Thank you all in advance.

The Laptop is: Dell Inspiron 1501, 2GB RAM, 2ghz speed processor, Win 7 installed. I have no reason to suspect the power pack, everything looks fine.

I've read that the thing that destroys the battery fastest is overcharging the battery. That's why I want to turn it off. The only alternative that I have been able to find is unplugging the battery which means I have to restart machine from scratch, as opposed to waken it from sleep, every time I want to use it.

Is there a way to stop the battery from charging other than unplugging it?

What can I do to resolve the issue ....

A:Battery permanently failured

Hi SAKTHI13594,
What is the system exact system model? When did the issue start?
To confirm, the system works fine when connected via adapter, right?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
On certain models, the battery would have a life / health status button. Check the status on it. Or in Windows, in Dell Battery Meter - check battery health and battery life.
If the adapter is detected fine and the battery is not charging, the battery might have reached the end of its life.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

You'll need to replace the battery if you want to run the computer without the AC adapter. Unfortunately, batteries are wear items. Sometimes you'll only get a year or two out of them.

Hi Guys !

I have an external USB drive. Each time I power it on before I startup the computer, the drive's partitions appear as "monitored" in system restore. If I switch the USB drive on when the computer is already on, system restore shows the external drive's partitions as "disconnected" (might not be the right term, my OS isn't in english).

I don't want system restore to monitor that drive, since it's a backup drive. But I don't want to have to power it on after the computer each time since it then takes some time before I can use the disk. Is it possible to set a value in the registry or whatever to deactivate system restore on external drives ?

I read this on microsoft support but found no clues about my problem in the different registry values :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295659

A:How to permanently turn system restore off on my external drive ?

This may answer your question.

"Should I let System Restore monitor my external drive?"
as quoted by http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#ExternalDrive

It is a bad practice to let System Restore monitor an external drive. By design most external drives are monitored by System Restore. If any changes are made to the external drives files while it is not connected to the system, the next time it?s connected System Restore will find an inconsistency in the SR log and cause all existing restore points to become corrupt and require there deletion. The same can be true if the external drive is powered off while the system is running.

A possible work around is to assign a permanent drive letter (the higher in the alphabet the better) to the external drive via Disk Management. To access Disk Management, go to Start - Run and type diskmgmt.msc then press enter.

Right-click a partition, logical drive, or volume, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Do one of the following:

1. To assign a drive letter, click Add, click the drive letter you want to use, and then click OK.

2. To modify a drive letter, click it, click Change, click the drive letter you want to use, and then click OK.

Reboot the system. Open System Restore and stop monitoring that drive. This should keep System Restore from monitoring that drive, but not always.

OK. So I am using Win XP Pro w/SP3 1GB Ram on a computer I built. AMD XP 2100+ Thoroughbred B core CPU. It is (was) still a nice machine believe it or not. Here is my problem. One day I booted up and logged in. No icons appeared on the desktop. I figured, corrupt explorer.exe file and went to ctrl+alt+del and nothing. So rebooted and then the icons were there. I tried to load from Start>Programs.. and it freezes up and the "hourglass" mouse pointer is displayed instead of the arrow pointer (like my cpu is at 100% at all times) Now I realize that something is seriously wrong. All drivers are as up to date as they ever will be and all things were functioning properly until I got this whatever (Trojan virus Im sure, virus at the least) I cannot even boot to a CD. Cannot get into safe mode at all. And the task-manager is disabled along with me being able to open anything. I can still log on fine (of course) and then it is all downhill from there. So this is what I do. I go through this reboot and tinker for a while and it is futile to waste any time on that. I purchase a IDE case to make this internal Hard Drive an external Hard Drive via USB 2.0.I boot up my Windows 7 laptop and connect this drive via USB and run Norton 2010 on it. As we all know it is infected many times over. Norton states that it removed all infections except for one file which I had Norton delete the file since it was not an important one. Hi!

I have lenovo ideapad g585gc 59-356202 e1-1200, dvdrw, 4gb, 500gb, radeon hd 7310m, 15.6" led, ....
Almost 2 years old.
Yesterday it didn't want to turn on, and then I took out the battery and try without it and then turned on and everything is ok.

So,
1. with battery (with or without ac power) won't turn on
2. without battery (of course, with ac power) turn on

The problem is evidently in the battery. I want to buy a new one, but how can I be sure that the battery is really dead?

A:Lenovo won't turn on with battery, without battery turn on!

There are no good practical ways the average owner can test the battery. You have to go on the evidence.

I want to know if the ability to print from anywhere in the world to a printer. My initial setup i was thinking of was this:

The laptop pulls up the IP address of a wireless print server which is connected to a wireless router (where it gets its internet from). The person using the wireless laptop gets the IP address of the print server, some how configures the computer to print to THAT IP address, and the paper should come out of the printer. Correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.S. it would be nice if i could be told how much this will cost.

ok i wanted to get a laptop from dell in january specifically the E1705. now its most likely be configured with a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS, Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 (1.60GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB), a well as 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz. now my question is that when dx10 Gpu's for laptops come out do you think that i would be able to upgrade this laptop with out many issues such a compatibility the rig in general.

P.S sorry that sounding odd i cant think of any other way to say it because i don't know the motherboard they use when making them lol so I'm asking about it here.

A:upgrade ability of a E1705 inspiron laptop from dell

A vast majority of laptops have the gpu on the mobo which makes upgrading impossible without replacing the mobo, and doing so can be very very expensive.

Hello,
My first here! Among my systems is my main surfing machine....an Acer 5920 running Vista Home Premium. When rebooting last night, it reported the C drive has been corrupted. It has the D2D restore partition, and a D partition and I can access both of those....but not the 'C' drive. The restore function (accessed with alt+F10) starts but crashes.
Is this a virus? What can I do to9 restore it without loosing the factory restoration partition? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks for listening!
~Jim

Ok, so, right now I have a crappy old compaq desktop, which would take a total mobo upgrade inorder to add the latest graphics card (only PCI slots)...(oddly enough, it does run sims2). But I am looking to buy a laptop, for a number of reasons, one of which is that I want to improve my gaming ability. However, I am on a budget & don't want to spend over $1,000 and would be really happy if I could only spend less than 900 w/ tax....(perhaps a pipe dream...)
Anyways, bestbuy has a gateway notebook w/:
amd turion 65 1.8ghz processor,
1600mhz system bus,
1gb memory,
100gb hard drive, &
an "Ati Radeon xpress 200m chipset with integrated Ati radeon x300 based graphics", 64mb shared....

Definatly a large leap above what I currently have (plus its only like $800). However, I would like to be able to play next gen games like Oblivion...is the video card good enough, on low settings w/ Omega drivers added on & ini tweaks? If not, could someone please steer me in a good direction?

On a similar note, it was suggested to me that there may be a way to edit the BIOS to up the size of the memory alloted for the video card to 128mb...any truth to that?
