I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop has been acting somewhat slower than normal lately. I did some cleaning up and got rid of a few programs and what not and it did seem to help but I also was wondering if this issue could be a cause of protection software. I have AVG-Free, SpywareBlaster, Spybot Search-And-Destroy. MRU-Blaster, I use Panda ActiveScan as well, though this is not a running application there is still a program file for it. Also, I wasn't sure if it is unwise to have Windows Firewall up with AVG running. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!

You need to have both a firewall and anti-virus program running.

Your log looks fine so I'm not sure this is malware related.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. alternate download link 1 alternate download link 2
Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
Then click on the Scan button.

If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.

Advised by technician for ISP that AMD E1-1200 processor @1.40 GHz is NOT apprpriate for Windows 10 or for 1GB internet service. He suggested Intel pentium @ 3GHz, at least. System has 4GB DDR3 RAM.  I know that generally, you can increase system performance by increasing the RAM. If I load the system with maximum RAM, will that be enough to make up for the lack of performance from the AMD E1-1200? I really do not want to purchase 2 new pc's to replace the 2 pavilion p2-1122's that we have now. Ideas/advice, PLEASE! Thanks. jade1945.

Okay, I recently purchased a new laptop to use alongside my old PC. On the old system (Win 98, IE5), webpages typically take a few seconds to load (fewer than 10), on a 56k dial-up connection actually running at 38k.

Obviously I would expect similar, if not better performance on the new machine which has Win XP Pro and IE6, and significantly higher system specs. However, this is not the case - although file downloads are basically fine, web pages simply take much longer to load. The status bar moves much more slowly, and instead of displaying the page instantly as it downloads (as in IE5), now nothing will appear until most of it has been pre-downloaded. In effect, pages take about 15-20 seconds, sometimes longer, to load.

I'm a patient man, long used to dial-up and generally satisfied with it on my old machine. But now this new one, on the same connection (at the same theoretical speed) is operating too slowly to be satisfactory. Surely Internet Explorer 6 is not operating to full capacity. There must be a reason for its comparative sluggishness. It seems that the way pages load is inefficient, with pictures taking ages to appear (btw, I checked that software compression is on).

I don't know if this a common complaint amongst XP/IE6 users, but I really need to increase efficiency. One potential solution are these widely advertised 'web accelerators' that claim to 'improve DNS lookup' and other catchphrases. Do they actually work to any noticeable degree (and if so, ... Hi, got the new Tecra W50-a and have to say I am gutted with the speed and performance.

Running 8.1 we partitioned the drive 50/50 and the read/write is terrible. If I copy from C: to D: I am lucky to get 10mbps

Copy from or to external Sata I get over 50mbps and around the same over ethernet.

I got rid of the partition and tried copying locally and get the same result.

Task manager shows Disk performance at 100% the entire time and I can't do anything with my machine while the copy is happening.

Copied 1 2gig file and it happens in seconds. Try a folder with a couple of thousand files and everything grinds to a halt.

Any ideas greatly appreciated

This is a SSHD (solid state hybrid drive) a combination of SSD and HDD.
The performance of SSHD depends on the cache controller (SSD).
Why?
The flash cache is used for the most used data… the special controller has to decide which data will be loaded into the cache.
But the SSHD needs a little bit of time in order to “learn” which data will use the cache and at the beginning the write speed would be similar to the common HDD.
After some time this performance will increase and the SSHD should reach higher write speed.

I have been reading some answers on other Win 7 forum sites that you can't tweak Win 7 to speed up boot time or increase it's performance potential by shutting off unused services as you can in XP or Vista. I am reading that Win 7 doesn't work that way.You can tweak it to personalize it but that is all.

I am skeptical but really don't know.
Any truth to that?

The problem first arose at random just under a week ago. I turned off my computer, went to bed and then next morning came to booting it up again. The OS loaded up fine, though after starting iTunes and Grand Theft Auto the computer began to lag badly, causing the audio and monitor refresh rate to stutter.

I then rebooted thinking it was a RAM problem of some sort, though this is when the real problems started. The windows boot screen (the logo with the scrolling blue bar thingy) seemed to go on for ages. It lasted for around 30 seconds, and often froze. Eventually it got passed this, though it then proceeded to get stuck and wait for ages on the welcome screen too. Again, it eventually got there and booted into Windows/Desktop, though the audio is laggy and stutters. The logon chime thingy stutters and spits the... Read more

Hi All,

In desperation I've had to post here.

Since the first install this Windows 7 I have installed has been doing crazy things.

The mouse icon goes about 900 x speed, which I thought was weird, but it turns out everything clock related also goes at 900 x speed. Such as system clock, those animated gifs to my right, or any animated type stuff.

The clock itself in the bottom right goes increbily fast, and my system goes to sleep mode if unattended for like 1 minute. It's crazy! I've spent ages on google looking for fixes and the best it's thrown up is disabling HD AUDIO which I have done!!!

It's driving me insane and I've spent a large amount of cash on this machine! Arrgh! I suspect it may have a hand in not letting me connect to a wireless network as well!

Its an Athlon2 triple Core AM3, 4gb RAM on an ASUS motherboard.

I've seen several people state that they've noticed that Edge now performs better than Chrome and that they feel like it's faster. I've used Chrome as my default for years and always found it to be lightning fast. I don't find Edge to be slow necessarily, but when compared to Chrome, it doesn't really compare.

So I'm wondering if there are certain settings that some of you may have that may boost Edge's performance - either in the Advanced settings or about:config?

A few tech-related questions;

-My laptop runs slowly, lags, and overheats for online games, even simple ones. One thing I notice is the rather high CPU usage and CPU memory usage. Right after start-up, with no browser window open, and almost all start-up programs shut off, there is still about 1.0 GB of memory used, which is 30% of the total. That number rises to about 60% and 1.8 GB with some windows in Chrome open. Is this unusual?

-Any simple changes I can make to increase performance and memory usage?

-For a fairly weak and old processor (Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU, T4200 @2.00 GHz), is my 64-bit OS a bad idea? If so, how does one switch it to 32-bit?

-Would upgrading from Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 make sense? And if so, is there a deal better than Amazon's $87 price tag?

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Depends on whether the cost is worth it to you. After I used Windows 7 Release Candidate dual booted with Vista Home Premium for a month I was convinced that Windows 7 Home Premium was worth the $49 to pre-order the Windows 7 update.

Windows 7 manages memory better than Vista does, but you implied that you have ~3 GB RAM, which should be no problem with Vista for general use.

Not likely. And if there is the difference is probably not much.

Possible hardware or software issues with an acer aspire e5 521 26em notebook (AMD E2 6110 / 1.5 GHz Integrated AMD Radeon R2 Card, 4GB Ram, 64 bit windows 10). Unlikely that this is virus or malware related. Originally this laptop ran windows 8, but it seemed to have issues with that OS and initially performed better after I installed windows 10. Recently it has become hard to run more than one program at a time. I have done everything I can think of (defragmented, cleaned out various adware programs, updated all drivers, played with various settings etc.) In task manager it seems that it's almost constantly running 95-199% of the disk (surprisingly not CPU or memory). Wondering if I should upgrade RAM, downgrade to an older version of windows, or optimize the settings in some way. This is my only computer and I'm a college student, so I don't have the funds to just purchase another PC. Thanks for any advice

A:Any tweaks for improving ie7 speed and performance??

IE is naturally a bit slow, but you could try clearing out your temp files and the cache, although it will probably have to load images again the first time you visit a page.

What is your connection speed do you have? This obviously makes a difference too

Try Firefox if it comes to it, it's quicker (I did a side-by-side test once) and you can get extensions to make it faster as well, plus if you really know what you're doing you can tweak it yourself.

Hello. First off I would like to thank whoever gets a chance to look at my case, as I understand you are volunteers and are doing this for no compensation. So, thank you.

First off, my symptoms: I am an avid video-game player and I noticed an extremely significant drop in my average framerate while playing PC Games. I have not recently changed any graphics settings, hardware, or (as far as I know) vital software. (from ~60fps to ~20-30fps). On top of this, I froze up multiple times doing thins as simple as browsing the web, or changing playlists in iTunes. This has never happened before, and therefor I suspect something wrong.

I tried my best to follow the 5 steps exactly as it had asked.

So once again, I appreciate your assistance, and you will find my log below.

OK, I really had no idea where to post this, or even what to title it. So my apologies if it's completely mislabeled. I've been going mad with my new computer. I was going to do a windows refresh and start completely anew, but when it showed me what I had to reinstall I got nervous. So after contemplating this, I realized that I've barely put anything on here anyways, and I've made hardly any changes whatsoever, so I left it as is. I realize from here I need to start taking off what I have put on, and then try to see where something is screwing up, but my question is this.......

If one goes on speedtest.net and everything is always basically maxed out to what I think is a decent enough speed (100+ download, 12 upload) and your computer still runs like sh*t.....does that mean there's something in your security chain that's messing things up??? This is driving me absolutely crazy, I've had zero time to enjoy what I thought would be a substantial improvement over my old computer. Please, any help would be greatly, seriously appreciated.

We would need quite a bit more information to even begin to help try and figure out what you issue is.. For example, what is the systems specs "processor, Ram, ect.. Then what software have you introduced to the system and or removed... This general information would be enough to get started..

Bought this computer around 6 months ago, as a relatively cheap replacement, and it is by far the slowest and worst performing laptop I have ever used. Even just trying to load onto this discussion board took forever. Slow to start up, switch off,  etc. All programs and applications take far too long to start and respond. Using the internet would be quicker to go to an internet cafe and work there! My internet provider is Virgin cable 200 mbs and works perfectly on other devices. Someone please provide some feedback or advice. I still have 6 months warranty.

I have COX cable internet and all of a sudden the performance dropped dramatically. I was regularly getting speeds download speeds of 1 - 1.5mb, now its at 171k. It worked fine until yesterday. I have a fresh install of WinXP with all updates, patches, and proper drivers. I'm also using a D-Link wireless router, but I attained the high speeds while using it.

Does anybody know what could be the cause? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone. While using my PC today Windows 7's performance and speed harshly fell for no reason what so ever. I wasn't downloading anything, running any scans, defragmenting, nothing. It was just normal use of the Internet and sorting out my Media Libraries. Another thing I have noticed is that some features are not working for example, you know when you minimize a Window you usually see the Window drop onto the taskbar? That doesnt happen for me. It just disappears. Also, you know when you open a program and it fades in from the background? That doesn't happen either. Whats happening? Have any ideas what could be wrong? And sorry I made this post so long. Thanks!!

A:Windows 7 Speed & Performance Harshly Fell

What AV program do you use? It sounds like something got past it. I recommend downloading the free version of MalwareBytes (MBAM). After you get it installed, up date it (which might take a while), then do a quick scan. MBAM is usually good at finding stuff that slips past other AVs.

Hi,

Just installed this game and by default this game runs on my Integrated Graphics and not the High-Performance NVIDIA Processor. Running using the Integrated Graphics, the game main menu was lagging like it was around 5-10 fps. Scrolling the options was so slow and quite annoying. However the gameplay was smooth, only at the main menu was lagging.

Running the game using High-Performance NVIDIA Processor settings, all were smooth, both main menu and gameplay. However I cannot choose to run this game using the High-Performance NVIDIA Processor by default, I don't know why.

Is there any way to force this game to run using the High-Performance NVIDIA Processor ?

I already go to NVIDIA Control Panel and set the game to run using High-Performance NVIDIA Processor. But when I ran the game it still use the Integrated Graphics.

Hello. I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64, with Update 1. I want to ask you, where can be problem.

CPU --> Intel(R) Core i5 3230M 2,6 - 3,2 ghz
GPU --> Intel HD 4000 and nVidia GeForce GT740M 2GB (it switches how it needs)
RAM --> 4 GB DDR3 and 1 600 MHz (1,6 GHz)
HDD --> 750 gb with 5400 rpm --> (ST750LM022_HN-M750MBB)

I have installed windows like 2 days ago.

Now my questions:

1. Is it normal, when I just boot Windows, right after iccons apear, when I click to open some application, for example internet browser (using chrome) it takes long time? Like 6 seconds? But if I after windows boot wait 10 sec, then its working normally?

2. When I was playing some new games, actually BF4 and I minimized game, the Windows was responding horibly? Opening "My Computer" takes like 8 secs, opening browser takes even more.. Simply system responding very horrible :/

Thanks for answers

You probable have a few applications set to run at startup. Try to disable uneccessary programs for startupYour HD is slow (5400RPM) and might be fragmented. Defrag your HD might help and if you upgrade to SDD, it will improve overall system performance.Use this link to improve the start up: Startup Delay Time - Reduce in Windows 8

Upgrade your RAM to 8 GB will help with your games.

I recently noticed that everytime I play games on my computer I get very low framerates. I never had this problem before, and now all of a sudden it seems like my CPU is not performing well. I used the Windows Vista Reliability and Performance Monitor to monitor my CPU activity, and it seems as though everything is normal. My CPU activity stays at an average of 3% when I'm not doing anything, but one thing I am unsure of is, is it normal to have a Maximum CPU Frequency of 100%? If so then everything seems to be all right with my CPU. If not, then I have a problem with my CPU.

- When installing Rainbox Six Vegas on my computer, I got a message when the game scanned my PC configuration saying that my CPU did not meet their Minimum System Requirements for the CPU. Their Recommended Requirement was 3.0GHz for CPU's. Is it time for me to get a new CPU? I just got it last year...

- If anyone could provide a few suggestions or solutions, that would be great!

PC Specifications:

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz
- Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX
- 2GB's of RAM
- ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Motherboard

A:Low CPU Performance for Games

Not every program supports dual-core and will make your frequency still run high. Most games you can patch it and it'll work alot better with dual-core. I think you can overclock the processor to 3.0GHz. And your processor should be fine its not old.

My laptop has been having speed issues. So about a month ago my laptop was working perfectly fine. But one time my computer just got stuck on a boot loop so I had to hard reset after installing updates cause it was frozen. A little after that I got a blue screen and my laptop just turned off. I restarted it and after that I noticed my computer acting slow. I tried installing Windows 8.1 twice and it errors when installing and repairs windows back. Now my computer is at a point where when I load chrome everything is so laggy. Itunes freezes and skips, skype lags. everything just is so slow its like my Quad core turned in to a single core with 1.2Ghz. Everything should be running fine with my laptop. I have scanned with Avast, Scanned with Malwarebytes, Defraged, Disk cleaned, CCleaner and nothing has fixed it. Is it a hardware problem like could something be danged. Or is it a windows problem where I should just wipe my drive and re install windows? Please help

A:Laptop Performance Issues with speed. Software or Hardware

My preference is to use task manager and resource monitor to pinpoint what is consuming resources. After updates, windows and Norton would defragment the drive, which caused my laptop to slow down.

I'm looking to do the rounds with all of the best software and methods. I think I may have drank too much one night and accidentally opened a downloaded "media" torrent which contained an executable and clicked to run it by mistake. Ever since there have been mild odd malfunctions which almost seemed so subtle that they were mere glitches as we see in all technology. Technology has a personality, at least mine. But suddenly the same programs I always run somehow seemed to slow the computer down immensely and everything began to freeze up. If I stay in one window I'm fine for a while but opening/closing programs is seeming to take triple the time than before.

Hello guys. In the past months, I've changed up quite a lot of things in my PC. I've changed my GPU, cooling fan, MoBo, case, and everything is set up fine now (still going to upgrade my PSU though). But with the specs all fine, I'm having problems with PC performance.. Sometimes I experience very long waiting times while using my PC, for example sometimes Windows Explorer freezes up, or I am doing a few things at once and everything suddenly slows down..

I really don't know the cause, and could use some help here. The only thing that could be bad in my system is the PSU, which is quite old and most people say it's not recommended, as it's a cheap one.
I have switched mobos with sysrep /generalise /oobe, and everything went fine.

I have all the recommended specs for games, and it runs smooth, but when I enter crowded cities, I get dips to 30FPS. Now I have seen a video with a person on the same specs on e.g. Fallout 4, no OCs, and it runs smoothly at 60FPS. Something's not right in my system..
One thing I have noticed - my GPU and CPU usage is always really high (95-99%), even though most people say they have 70-80%.. My temps are fine, CPU idle is 39~ though, even with an aftermarket cooling fan, but only reaches 60~ while on said FPS drops, even. GPU is 50 idle and about 60-65 on load.

I have cleaned the dust on my PC (apart from the PSU).
MoBo temp is about 34. Using two case fans.

My drivers are up to date.

Okey so ive been having a major issue in terms of gaming performance in certain games. For this example its Arma 3

i dunno whats happening but just messes up my FPS in that game! i cant play for more than 30-40 minutes straight without encountering the problem!

here is a snippet of what happens when my performance dips in A3
as you can see my hard drive is taken over by system (PID 4) and other background processes like taskmgr etc and i dunno why this is!

majority of other games i play im completely fine just with arma i have problems! and considering arma is CPU and Hard disk Heavy, i kinda need all that performance in order to maintain 60+FPS

anyone got any tips in order for this to stop ?

I'm worried that Mame or Direct X or even a game itself may slow down my computers performance.

Can anybody help me on this?

I know the Celeron processor I have is not the best for games. I will probably mainly be playing simpler games anyway.

120 GB hard drive space

Dunno if this was asked before, but I searched and found nothing.

I am having issues with games that seem to be DirectDraw based. There are two main things I noticed:

Performance - Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive - the game works awfully slow. My machine may not be the best there is, its a Q6600 with GTS 450, but c'mon, this is an old game.

Fonts - I really wanted to play Gangsters and Atlantis 3, but the fonts are not rendered for some reason. I tried comparing the fonts in windows 7 (luckily saved the old windows 7 dir) but no fonts seem to be missing. I've read that they scrapped Cleartype, but surely those games don't use it?

Tried all the compatibility settings. Any ideas?

Hello,
as title suggest, I have constant stutters, microstutters and FPS drops in almost every game, even when I usually exceed recommended requirements, althoutht OS itself seems to run fine.
I had not any of these problems before the upgrade from Windows 8.1.

Problem details: Stutters and slowdowns occurs even when my Framerate per second is between 50-60, which should be high above smooth gameplay (so everything under 60FPS is notable slowed down) althought games runned smooth before on these FPS.
I think something in windows is interfering with Vertical synchronisation - this function should ensure smooth experience when FPS does not equal Hz on screen, but as I found out, performance is still the same if either Vsync is on or off.
Or problem may be somewhere else.
Please kindly check attachments for more informations.

Best regards
...and sorry for my crude english

A:Low performance in games - WIN10

Problem is you're running Windows 10 and you've installed the Anniversary Update (Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393) (14393.rs1_release_inmarket.160819-1924)), which introduced a lovely bug that randomly lags your system down to around 5% of it's normal speed. Causes games to run around 5-6fps (ANY game), and in case you haven't noticed will happen when you're just using your system normally. (Happens when I'm watching YouTube sometimes, the whole system just grinds to a near halt).

Solution? I have no freaking idea. Some people are speculating this problem occurs when you have User Files (%My Documents%, %My Pictures%, etc) on a secondary drive, or a drive different from your Windows Installation folder.

judging by your HDD stuff that may be what's happening here.

Microsoft supposedly released a fix on 8/31/2016 for this issue, but for me it didn't fix the problem. Some things that people are doing to fix the issue:

Rollback to previous version (this option goes away 10 days after the Anniversary Update is installed)
Move user files to your primary drive (in your case C:, or their default location), assuming you did move those files to a secondary drive.
Apply a bunch of other fixes that don't seem to help. (Here's a great post on Reddit detailing what people are attempting)
Reinstall Windows 10 (search for "Recovery" in your start menu), and reinstall the AU (Sometimes fixes it)

As far as I know this issue has NOTHING to do with vsync, but YMMV.

RELEVANCY SCORE 44.8

I've notice that on windows 10 and 8.1, task manager would show the my max cpu core speed is 2.3-2.4 ghz. However, my Core 2 Quad q8400 is rated at 2.66 ghz. I tried changing the power settings in windows and try lowering my cpu temperature, but my speed would never reach 2.66 ghz.

Should i be concerned about this or is it just a error on windows part? Also, i get different readings in Task Manager and CPU-z. Does anybody know a cpu benchmark that would allow me to compare my stock Q8400 to other Q8400s to see if it is on par?

A:CPU not running at full speed even at high performance power mode

I wouldn't worry about this one bit. The PC will use the required amount of processor power when it's required. And you don't need to run the processor at full speed all of the time.
