all i have is a solid black wallpaper...
i followed this instruction but it does not work for some reason..

can you please help me on this ?

Preferred Solution: All I have is a solid black wallpaper

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Tonny, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Where did you get your copy of Windows 7?

Is your Windows 7 activated and shown as genuine?

When I change my desktop background to a solid color it has like a grid of black dots overlaying it. I can change it to any picture with no dots just the solid colors show the dots. I've checked at it's set to 32 bit , my screen resolution is where it should be. Its driving me nut, started almost a year ago so I really don't know when so I really don't want to do a system restore. Any ideas?

A:black dots on solid wallpaper

check for an updated driver for your display
adapter. Also, if you have another monitor available,
connect that one to see if you get the same display.
Problem could possibly be with the monitor.

We would like to deploy a wallpaper for windows 7 machines joined to domain.Wallpaper We copied from network location to local drive of machines and we set the desktop wallpaper pointing to the local location of windows 7 machines.Everything works fine...i
mean copying the wallpaper from network location to local drive and also users can access the file locally as the location is accessible to users and users can open the file. But unfortunately wallpaper comes as black screen .
Our environment  is windows 7 64 bit with SP1
tried RUNDLL32.EXE user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSystemParameters and when we run for first time it worked and it showed the specific wallpaper. But
as soon as user logs off and login again wallpaper revert back to black screen. And once again we run the above command its not working and we need to logoff and then login again and try running the command ,wallpaper shows again.
How we can make it stable the refresh or user settings ?We tried the fix for wallpaper for windows 7 and windows 2008 r2 but we could not
install as it was saying the file not applicable to our system. version of shell32.dll is latest than commented on fix link

I'd like to point my automatic wallpaper changer to that folder but I can't find it. Thanks.

A:What folder does Win7 store the solid color wallpaper backgrounds?

It isn't a folder filled with solid colors. It takes the colors from the system itself. Just as you get those colors from paint, so you get those solid colors to use.

I am not aware of a way to shuffle solid colors for the background

Laptop had been performing well, then during a session, the screen went completely black. It has remained that way ever since.  It does display remotely via hdmi cable. Using a very strong light, I can see the outlines of what should be displayed on the screen. Given that, I would presume I have afailed back-light. Looking @ the service manual, it doesn't mention replacing the backlight as a component. (Only the display screen.) My question is: does this laptop have a back-light, if so, what is part number for replacement?

Ok I was sent here from another forum for some help!

My laptop at work was attacked by some serious Spyware & Trojans last week (had no 'anti' anything...or even a firewall). Anyway, my boss bought Spy Sweeper w/Anti Virus at Best Buy and it found a TON of stuff which I deleted.

Since the initial "attack" haha the desktop has been a solid black color. My picture is gone. If I go to a picture & right click it and do 'save as background' nothing happens.

If I right click my desktop > properties > desktop it won't let me select one of those pre loaded pictures either. I can't even click in that 'background' box.

***?? So confused here. Is there still spyware on this laptop? Or did it corrupt something? Or am I hopefully just having a blonde moment and missing something very simply & obvious (I hope!!).

Thanks for your help!!!!

Hello, everyone,

Since I am not sure whether this is a driver, software or hardware problem, I decided to start by posting in this general discussion forum. Please feel free to move it if you feel some other place is more appropriate.

I upgraded to Windows 7 shortly after purchasing a new PC late last year. I am using an ASUS P7P55D motherboard, ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 9600GSO graphics card, and a ViewSonic VA720 LCD monitor.

The issue that has stumped me since I got this new computer is that about 33% of the time when the computer initiates the monitor (when coming out of standby or hibernation or when starting the computer), I will see the desktop for about 1 second and then the screen will go black. If I turn the monitor off and on again, I will see the image for another second and then it may or may not go black again. The interesting thing is that the power light on the LCD is still a solid green (it goes orange if no signal is detected). Therefore, the LCD supposedly is still getting a signal, but it does not display anything. Other than not being able to see anything, the computer and Windows 7 operates normally.

If I turn the monitor off and then on, it will either stay on another second before going black or actually stay on, in which case I go about my day. Sometimes this takes 5-6 tries of turning the monitor on or off. Other times I give up and use these 1-second intervals to turn the computer off with my mouse (or restart blindly with the ... When I turn the laptop on, the fan starts, and the power lights come on. Then, the wifi LED lights up and stays solid. The screen stays black. Once that sequence is finished, nothing else happens. Power stays on, fan stays on, power LEDs and wifi LED stay on solid. Caps and numlock LEDs don't come on when pressed. I've tried a hard reset and swapping the memory slot. I'm guessing it's the main board, but I don't want to buy and replace that if it's not the problem.

HP Model LV2311 Flat Panel Monitor will only display a white cursor on an otherwise black screen. One and a half year old HP Pavilion 500-311 Desktop with AMD Radeon R7 Graphics running Windows 8.1 boots up, but screen is black.   Problem started immediately after I had updated extremely old drivers, some from 2010 (graphics and/or video, audio, etc.). Things I have tried in order to isolate the problem: I unplugged the power to the monitor and waited 30 seconds then re-connected it and turned it on; I connected another monitor and had the same problem; I connected the monitor using a DVI cable then a VGA cable and had the same problem; I rebooted the Desktop and noticed the power lignt come on, heard the "C" drive start spinning, saw the drive working indicator lignt blinking, but never heard a beap from indside the tower; and When I tap F10 while booting up, the Bios screen does appear on the screen. Please help asap. Thank you!

Ok this is a new one on me and I hope some kind person knows the answer to this one. Background: Network with about 10 users, one 2003 print/file server. Hard drive went badon a workstation (Dell 210L), replaced with new hard drive, reinstalled XP Pro SP2, all updates. Installed Office 2003, no services packs. There is a network printer (ir2270) that 10 people use and is being hosted on the 2003 Server. Everyone that uses the printer is not having a problem. Problem: After all the software is setup and configured on the new install, Outlook will print a solid black page when you tell it to print an email. Internet Explorer will print a solid black page if you tell it to print a webpages. Excel, Word and other programs on the computer print just fine. Could someone steer me in the right direction to figure out how to stop this behavior?

I have been using Windows 8 for quite some time now. I have it on my laptop and my home desktop. I have synced-theme set up and use my Windows ID to log into both. I have had no issues at all really since the install. Everything was synced as it should be. The other day; however, I noticed that the desktop background on my laptop had reverted to a solid black color. (In case anyone is wondering, this has nothing to do with non-genuine install as everything is 100% legit plus I am not getting the message in the bottom right of the desktop).

So, I figured it might have been transient and I wanted to change it anyway, so I changed the desktop background on the laptop. It actually did sync to the desktop as well. However, when rebooting the laptop, the same thing happens all over again, though the desktop background is still correct on the desktop, but still changes to black on the Laptop.

When I make the change again on laptop, I notice that it does not change the synced theme desktop, it actually creates a new "unsaved" theme. I save it with a new name but it really does no good.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks!

Screen goes black then turns a random solid color with buzzing noise. Had this problem for a long time (>1 year), now its getting really annoying and I want to try and fix it. I usually then have to hold the power button to turn it off.
- My temps for both my CPU and GPU are fine whenever this happens.
- Only happens when I play games, sometimes it happens fast, sometimes I can go for hours before it happens.
- Almost always happens in FPS type games like Overwatch or Bioshock, but very rarely happens in MMOs like League of Legends.
- Tested with memtest86, futuremark, and prime95, all were fine.
- Recently updated to Windows 10, but even when I was in Windows 8.1 Pro it still happened.
- Updated GPU drivers recently, still didn't fix the problem.
- GPU not overclocked, tried underclocking it once but that didn't help.
- BIOS has 1 new update I can get but I'm holding off on doing it until I tried everything.
- I have all the current Windows update.
Any help is appreciated.

The first problem that really got my attention was that my wallpaper on the desktop was just a black screen. I repeatedly changed it back to blue sky and other things, but after every restart it was black again.

The computer functions are not excessively slow, I don't get re-directs, or pop-ups. However I get long hour glasses for routine things like opening an e-mail or sending one. Also aol and firefox won't open after a re-start, until I have re-clicked on the menu two or three times. It just ignores the first instruction to open. AVAST is installed and I credit it with keeping my machine running at a reasonable speed.

Tech support guy helped me clean up last year, and I did not delete the various softwares when we were done, so I have old versions of Dr Web, Combo Fix, and HJT stored on my machine, although I heve never tried to use them by myself.

Now, Uninstall Aqua Real 4, for good.

Hello, I've noticed that I'm infected. I was poking around websites that I do know that are probably not the safest to be clicking around. I downloaded a zip file and ran an .exe in there on accident. Then hell was unleashed upon my computer. A small red x appeared in the icon tray, saying that I was infected and I should click there for help. Confusing this X as my Microsoft AntiSpyware, I click it and wait, and then this new program appears: "Spy Sheriff." So I close it, go into Control Panel, and remove it. Now about this time I have also gotten around to updating Adaware and Avast, and sent them both in. Avast restarted my computer, and after it scanned and after some time, the X had gone away. Aswell, it picked up "paytime.exe", which I think it killed, but am unsure of. After all this, everything seemed okay besides ones problem... my wallpaper has gone completely black. I checked my Display Properties, and the Desktop tab, and the selection box had become greyyed out. The wierd thing was though, when I shutdown my system, the icons and taskbar blinked out like normal, but my wallpaper was back. So, after all this, I decide to simply do a system restore. I rebooted into safe mode, and selected system restore. The only day available for me to restore to was March 15, and this was because of an error with my system clock, which causes it to stay within one hour of one day, and only in that hour, but that'll be a different pro... I use the screen saver Zmatrix. It turns your screen into the popular "Matrix" background.

I love the screen saver and it worked perfect in Vista, but i recently got a new laptop.

It seems that every time I let Zmatrix pop up the wallpaper on my desktop will disappear until I either reboot or select another wallpaper.

I Googled the problem and ran into confusing forums.

Anybody know what I can do?

Acer Aspire 5251-1513, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics

Note: on occasion some traces of the screen saver are left on the window after the program was off.

A:Solved: Windows 7/ Black Wallpaper

Since you are having a problem with the screen saver, and since screen savers are not needed unless your laptop has an old CRT monitor bolted to it , I suggest that you remove the screen saver and give Windows 7 a chance to show you what it can do.

Right click on an empty spot on the desktop and select Personalize. You can choose from many themes, and more are available online. You can also choose from many desktop backgrounds or get more online or supply your own. You can also select multiple backgrounds for a "slide show" and have the background change every so many minutes.

For those idle times when a screen saver would be in use I think that blanking the screen is preferable.

Back to your issue--is the program supposed to be compatible with Windows 7? Especially important if you have 64-bit.

I am having an issue with my desktop wallpaper. Well first of all let me start by telling you what I did. I tried installing Combofix but in the middle of installing it I did't like the permissions I was needing to give it with my Avast free antivirus. After doing the I didn't notice anything until the next morning when I booted up my PC. I noticed my desktop wasn't displaying my wallpaper. So I tried setting a new picture from my PC as a wallpaper but discovered 2 problems. One, I noticed all my images were not displaying. Two, when I tried to set a new image as desktop wallpaper I received an error saying, "This image can't be set as wallpaper. An internal error has occurred."

Now with that being said I did notice that if I am browsing through my pictures without double clicking them to view them I can set them as Desktop Wallpaper, but I still cannot see the wallpaper. It is only when I double click the image and am viewing it using Windows Photo Viewer that I receive that error above.

Please can someone tell me what I did and how to fix it.

I'm trying to install the Gizdom Reloaded theme for Windows 7. However, when I click the .theme file, I get the default Aero theme and a black wallpaper. I have patched the required files using the Universal Theme Patcher. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (build 7601) with SP1.

I dont remember reading this, so i'll share my experience. The starter version has a nasty 'feature' of not featuring an option to change your background image. Many people have tried and the only reliable ways to do this turned out to be 'drawing' one on top of the other using 3rd party software, or to patch system files. Now i wasnt really happy about those options, becouse I run windows 7 starter with only 1 G ram (at the time there was crapware running in backgroud, had a look into that so now I CAN miss it). However I was so stupid to replace the img0.jpg file in the windows web subfolder to try something less ram expensive. Yes, now I now, I should have searched about it and read for my self this was not an option becouse part of the image was hardcoded... well I was stuck with a black background and no way to change it back...

But after some research I found that the key: HKCU/Control Panel\Desktop had a Value called 'Wallpaper'. In windows starter it s data can only be nothing or '%windir%\web\wallpaper\windows\img0.jpg' (without quotes). Windows 7 Starter saw the wrong img0.jpg and changed it into an empty value turning black the background image.

Solution: The only one I know of:
changing the data of the value back into '%windir%\web\wallpaper\windows\img0.jpg' (without quotes), press ok and logg off. When you logg back on you'll see the background image the way it has to be .

P.S. I thought I dit not have to mention you need to replace the img0.jpg with the orig... Read more

It happened a couple times already.
My desktop wallpaper turns pitch black for some reason. On the lower left hand corner the window symbol goes missing. Sometimes my clock goes missing as well, sometimes not. When I go intro the metro mode, it's absolutely blank. All my tiles are gone. Today it happened, and I was not able to get to the settings by 'swiping from the right side of the screen or pad'. In metro, in the upper right corner where it should display your name, profile picture, and the shut down button, it is blank. Metro is blank. My computer also slows down greatly during these times. For the last two weeks or so, I noticed my touch screen is broken. Some times it works, most times it doesn't.
Is there any solution for this? Could it be a virus or just the computer? I use a laptop, and it's only a few months old. It glitches a bit in the past, but never something like this.

A:Window 8 Metro Crash and Black Wallpaper

It could be an infection or it could be a hardware problem or it could be a software problem. If the unit is under warranty I'd be talking to the manufacturer's tech support about the problems and get their help first. It could be that replacement will be the best solution.

I used to be able to do this in Windows 7. Basically if my desktop photo doesn't fill the screen, there's a color that fills the rest of it. I can't see anywhere to change this color to just black. I can change the whole screen to grey, or have my image cover the entire desktop, but I'd like to just have an image in the middle, and the rest of the desktop black around it. Can anyone help? I apologize if this is an easy fix and I'm just missing it.

Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with an issue this past weekend and is getting a little annoying because I CANNOT choose my own wallpaper. I've research what the problem and I've come up with different solutions, but none of these seems to work such as, deleting the TranscodedWallpaper.jpg

To put it simple my wallpaper is black or a solid color and even if hit "save changes" in the personalize menu in Windows 7, it still won't change. I see the icons, everything is working fine, its just that my wallpaper can't be change and you only could change to a solid color.

This issue started when a relative of mine installed iMesh into the computer, I removed it completely and since then the black solid wallpaper has been on my desktop.

I've run Mylwarebytes, Ad-ware, Windows Essential....and....NOTHING. Do you guys think I should run Combofix?

I would like to see if someone can help me with this, or other ways that I can fix this little issue because its just bothering me.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate.

Thank you

One of our computers is infected with either a virus or malware.
Symptoms are:
1) Disables task manager
2) Background wallpaper becomes black
3) Flashing box in middle of monitor stating "Warning - Dangerous Spyware - Many viruses were found in your computer such as: Trojon hors, PassCapture, etc. Your personal informaiton can fall into in the "third hands". Please check up the computer with a special software. Thank.
4) Locks out any possible changes to the wallpaper

When going in to take out the disable task manager line, it reappears after rebooting.
McAfee doesn't recognize that there is any problem - full deep scan reveals nothing found.
Can bring up the machine in safe mode and - of course - the flashing wallpaper is not there.

Need to know what is actually in the sytem doing this and how to remove it.
