"NVIDIA Control Panel Application 8.1.940.0 has stopped working" error pop-up window

Q: "NVIDIA Control Panel Application 8.1.940.0 has stopped working" error pop-up window

I am using a Lenovo T530 Laptop (2359 CTO, S/N: R9-VKVGV) installed on a Lenovo Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 (US/Can) (Product 433715U, S/N: M2T6345) with a Dell LCD Monitor (Model 2208WFP) connected. The laptop was manufactured with an Intel Graphics chip, as well as an NVIDIA NVS-5400M Graphics chip. The OS is Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, which was installed on the laptop shortly after Windows 8 was introduced and installed with poor results. The Windows 7 Ultimate replaced the Lenovo Factory Installed Windows 7 Professional OS. The Windows 7 Ultimate OS has been very stable. Please note that the laptop's software has been kept up-to-date by running Windows Update automatically and Lenovo Update manually. Windows Update is set to call for Windows updates as well as other Microsoft updates. I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate without incident up until about one (1) Year ago. At that time, I started experiencing a pop-up window that indicated drivers were being installed, without indicating what drivers. The pop-up window would show up without warning sometimes once a motnth, sometimes once a week, sometimes two or three times in a week. Following the installation of the driver(s), the Dell Display would go black and the Laptop Display would become the active display. Normally, the Dell Display is the active display in continuous use, selected by using the 'Fn' key with the 'F7' key to select only the Dell Display. After the driver(s) finished installing, I would simply re-select the Dell Display. I was unable to find any (logical) reason as to why the problem kept occuring. I had been under the impression that the laptop had a NVIDIA Graphics Card, not a NVIDIA Graphics Chip. Thinking that perhaps there was a component that was failing or had failed, I contacted NVIDIA to try to find out if the was a way to determine the status of the NVIDIA component. Device Manager was not reporting any problems with either of the Display Drivers. NVIDIA Support had me run a number of different tests and updates, none of which seemed to resolve the issues. I was finally asked to uninstall DisplayLinkManager,as NVIDIA believed this to be the source of the issue(s). Uninstalling DisplayLinkManager required the prior removal of Lenovo Graphics Software package. I was requested to install a driver package from NVIDIA (nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/148316/en.us), which did not resolve the issue(s). I uninstalled ALL NVIDIA software that I was able to locate on the laptop and gave Window some time to call for updates. Windows installed a version that produced NVIDIA Control Panel Version 295.80 which worked briefly right after it was installed late in the evening and then suddenly did not work the following morning when I checked for it. I once again uninstalled ALL NVIDIA software that I was able to locate on the laptop and have subsequently installed Lenovo NVIDIA NVS 5400M Display and Audio Drivers for WIN 7 64 Bit, package: g5de58ww, along with Lenovo Monitor Files, packages: 70oi30ww and 79oi33ww. This action did not produce a 'working' NVIDIA Control Panel. NVIDIA Control Panel continues to return the "stopped working" pop-up. NVIDIA has advised that there are no plans for bugfix releases for the 392 driver branch, only plans for security related fixes. NVIDIA has advised that, as a result, they may not be able to help with this issue. Hopefully, someone out there from Lenovo or the larger community may have some answers that will assist me in resolving this annoying problem once and for all. I have my fingers crossed.

Preferred Solution: "NVIDIA Control Panel Application 8.1.940.0 has stopped working" error pop-up window

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,

Problem: When I right-click on my desktop and select "nvidia control panel", I get an error that says "nvidia control panel application, 4.4.730.0 has stopped working". The log file simply states the executable for this program crashed and gives no additional information.

I had been running the 296.10 driver on my machine with no problems. I upgraded the driver to 301.42. I had no problems for about a month and don't currently believe the driver version is related to the problem. The only change I made prior to this issue coming up, I installed Leisure Suit Larry which was speced for XP. The install may or may not be related, I can't think of how it would be.

Thus far, I've tried the below steps to resolve the issue with no luck:

-Installed 296.10 driver using "Clean Install" option.
-Installed 301.42 driver using "Clean Install" option.
-Uninstalled nvidia driver using Revo Uninstalled, then performed a "Clean" install, tried this with both 296 and 301 versions.
-Utilized Driver Cleaner Pro, followed by Revo Uninstaller to erase old GBU drivers and Physicx Drivers. Reinstalled 301.42. Restarted system. I was able to access the Nvidia Control Panel after the restart. I restarted a second time, and the same error this post is about occurred again. The error continues.

The only thing I can think of is to uninstall every single item marked 'nvidia', but I feel like that probably wouldn't... Read more

A:Solved: nvidia control panel application, 4.4.730.0 has stopped working

I found a guide, that when followed, corrected the problem I was having. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1174372&mpage=1

The key differences I noticed between what I was doing and what I should have been doing are as follows:

-Should have only been using default uninstaller application. Not Revo or driver sweeper.
-I should have been deleting every single item marked nvidia from my computer, except of course my mobo drivers and Raid management software.
-I needed to disable the function in windows that automatically downloads drivers from win update
-I should have let win7 load the default VGA driver, then restart without clicking a single other thing and finally installing the new driver from EVGA and then restarting again without touching anything else.

When I do a right mouse click on my display (to look at my screen settings) I get the following error message:

NVIDIA control panel application, 3.3.532.01 has stopped working

My system:
OS Name: Microsoft? Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit)
Version: 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002

How can I fix this problem?
I have attached a image of the error that I see.

A:NVIDIA control panel application

Welcome
I would start with the graphics driver
Go to device manager, make sure that the graphics driver is up to date and that no yellow markers are anywhere to be seen.
Make sure the the tree, in the left panel, is not open anywhere and open tree indicates a problem in that area.

I've having trouble with my Nvidia Control Panel. Whenever I switch to 3D Settings and then switch tab to Program Settings, this error pops up.

When I click OK the control panel shows the two Select a Program and Specify the Settings boxes, but they're both empty.

How can I get all the games to appear again?

I've already tried reinstalling the 94.24 drivers and I restarted my computer several times.

Hello, I recently did a fresh install of Win7 32bit on two computers (Dell Optiplex 330, 360) in my office. The installation went fine but I noticed that both computers have errors in the control panel.

On one, if I open the control panel from the start menu (CP homepage) it opens for a second, then closes and I get a 'Windows Explorer has stopped working' error -> it asks to look for online solutions and finds nothing. However, this only happens to the main Control Panel page, if I open a section of the Control Panel like the 'Adjust Screen Resolution' via search bar, it opens fine.

On the other, control panel works fine, but when I open the 'Backup and Restore' section, I get a blank menu screen. It has the title 'Backup and Restore' but there are no buttons or options.

Is there a way to re-install control panel? Or other ways to fix this problem, I don't plan on re-formating.

A:Control Panel stopped working

Most likely Control Panel is crushed by a new menu item which was installed with Dell video or audio drivers.

Turn Hidden files option On and then turn hide SYSTEM files option OFF.
And search for *.CPL files in C:\Windows\

Something outside the list could be Control panel item, causing the problem.
Before deleting anything backup and make sure it is not a default Windows Control panel menu item.

For Backup and Restore try to start this file
C:\Windows\System32\sdclt.exe

I guess you read the step by step instruction how to update the system from Win 8 to Win 8.1
Did you? Did you follow such instruction?

Did you update and install the essential nVidia driver for Win 8.1 which is available on Toshiba driver website?

I'm attempting to fix my brother's computer, which is running Windows Vista Home Premium x64. Recently, he's started getting this error message, "Windows explorer has stopped working." It keeps popping up every few seconds, no matter what he's doing, and explorer continually restarts. He tried running system restore and that didn't help. I found that if I start the computer in safe mode, there is no issue. I found this article on microsoft's website regarding this error and followed all of the recommended steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2694911. I logged into another user account to test it and didn't receive the error. When I gave my brother back the computer, he logged into his user account and started getting the error again. He created a new user account, but still got the same error when he used that one. I googled the issue and found that one solution might be to uninstall certain programs. So I opened the control panel to try to view the installed programs, only to find it completely blank with the message, "this folder is empty." I have not been able to find a fix for this problem in any of my google searches. I'm not sure if the two issues are related, or if it's just a coincidence. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Does he use Internet Explorer? If so, have him use Gear > Manage Add-ons, and disable all add-ons. IE and Windows Explorer are linked and misbehaving add-ons/plugins can affect Windows Explorer. Try it and see if it helps.

Alright so here is my issue. Whenever I happen to click on my control panel I receive this windows stop error 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80506A01, 0xEC451DF4, 0x00000000). It is more of an annoyance than anything, as I can startup my computer and use just about everything on it just fine until I try to access my control panel. Whenever I send the error report to microsoft, it says there is a problem caused by the antivirus software (PC tools antivirus). I tried uninstalling it, just for the sake of seeing if it would help matters, and I again received the same stop error. Upon restart the microsoft error reporting says its a corrupted error report? I'm really not quite sure what the issue is, since now I do not have that antivirus program installed on my computer. Any kind of help to lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I am rather confused.

I've had this P40 a year or so with no issues. Discovered some sluggish graphics performance, checked to make sure nvidia was being used, and it wasn't. Went to change the nVidia settings and there was no nVidia control panel in my menus. Tried installing the latest drivers for the Quadro M500M. Uninstalled all nVidia drivers and software, directories (in C:\ and in Program Files) and installed selecting the "clean installation" option. Nothing I do will bring the nVidia control panel back. The whole reason I purchased this was the Quadro support. Outraged I just paid for another year of warranty only to find out that doesn't cover software issues at all. Anyone have a suggestion? Before I sell this and buy a machine from a brand with better support while under warranty.

Hi

This usually happens when you dont remove the software completely, some process are attached to the Windows Explorer ... thats causing this.

Try using Autoruns and look under Explorer... and look for file that highlighted in yellow.. usually should say "File not Found". Uncheck or delete these and restart you computer.

Try these and let me know.

Hi, My laptop runs Windows Vista Business. It also runs F-Secure PC Security Shield. I recently downloaded and installed Amazon's Kindle for PC Beta software application. When I try to launch this application, an error message gets displayed which reads as "Amazon Kindle For PC Application has stopped working" with two options, Debug or Close program. The Close Program action shuts down the application appropriately. I have given below dump of the log when I take the action of Debug on the error message window I described above.

The user id using which I log into my laptop has adminstrator rights. I have tried running the application 'as administrator' (any ways) and did not get a different result. I tried changing the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) feature setup as prompted / suggested by the system via certain help messages and did not find any change in the behaviour.

Interestingly, if I am not connected to the internet, the same application loads successfully. I suspect this might be caused by the F-Secure PC Security Shield, however, I am not sure if that is 'the' only root cause. I would NOT like to consider an option of switching off F-Secure PC Security Shield.

I have not sought help from Amazon yet which could be one option.

Suggestions, comments are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi...

I am working on 3ds max application, which always takes lot of time to load files or do some any complex work, the problem is windows 7 thinks it as "application has stopped working" and closes that down, i am sure, if i can give more time to 3ds max application it will surely come back from not responding state to responding state, but this stupid windows 7 is creating problem for me............

can any one help me on this.........

thanks.........

A:application has stopped working error

I think you've misjudged the symptoms.

The OS will not terminate a process just because it's unresponsive to "window messages" for whatever reason. When that's the extent of the problem, you tend to see the app UI lock up, accompanied by a "not responding" label in Task Manager.

"Application has stopped working" is the nice way of saying "has crashed". The OS notices when the app unintentionally does things which are impossible - division by zero, accessing memory which doesn't belong to it... that sort of thing. If the app cannot recover when such an attempt is caught (it doesn't provide a suitable "exception handler"), then the inevitable result is an outright crash.

Try updating 3DSMax, your video driver, and stay away from "desktop enhancers/extenders" and similar utilities which could conceivably mess with the app UI rendering.

Been messing with this for days. When I open the Control Panel I do not have the option to switch the view on the left side pane. All that is there is the See Also window. I went to view, Toolbar, Customize and added the views icon to the toolbar. As long as I keep the customize toolbar box open and move it up or down I can see it on the toolbar. Once I close the Customize Toolbar window the view icon grays out on the tool bar. My back button is the same way. I checked in another users window and the control panel is fine. I have Windows XP SP3. I am the Admin on the PC. Any help would be great.

A:Category and Classic view window missing on Control Panel window

In the Control Panel window click on the Tools tab > Folder Options, click on the "Show common tasks in folders" button and click OK or Apply. That should restore the Category and Classic View options.

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
Notes....
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: SFCShowProgress
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Hi,
Recently I have noticed that my nvidia control panel doesn't reconise my games! It used to until I installed the new 180.48 driver set. I have tried to add to it making sure I choose a .exe file but nothing seems to happen.

I know this doesn't make a huge difference but squeezing a few more fps is alway a bonus.

Any ideas?

That your NVIDIA driver software is not install properly. Uninstall current driver software and install your operating system supported driver.
and if after this process you face same problem then update your driver software.

hey guys. i was looking around for some help with this..i installed windows 7 and no control panel. please dont say i didnt search..cause i did

nVidia Control Panel

i uninstalled current drivers and installed the 185.85 as recommended. I have a 9800gtx and when i try to install the control panel it says "setup failed to read Display Driver to be used with this package". I read that i should temporary disable winrar, which i did. also, i saw on the post that the data should be in .cab not .rar, which they are.

help me please =)

A:NVIDIA control panel help.

Unless there is more to it than I can visualize in my brains, disabling (can you even do that? heh heh) Winrar has no affect on anything to do with NVidia, drivers or your video card.

I suggest you Google for how to clean your system of NVidia files and uninstall NVidia driver.

Based on your reading, when you are satisfied your system is "clean", then reinstall the driver by running the .exe.

Use this driver to reinstall.

Good Day to all....

Had a question...
the nvidia control panel when i try to open the desk top part of the control panel it crashs the program... I am try to run my daul screens at two different res. But apparently i need to do it through Nvidia control panel ?????? Is there a fix to stop the desktop portion of the nvidia control panel from crashing it self????? Thanx in advance ....

A:nvidia control panel

Hello Kodiak420!

The Nvidia Control Panel follows with your Graphic Driver. Try reinstalling your Driver by using Nvidia Uninstaller (uninstall from your control panel as we know!)

   Warning
Your resolution will change after you restarted your computer, it's all normal because Windows 7 is using the default driver

   Tip
If you want to clean leftover files use the popular software, Driver Sweeper

Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling

If you don't want to uninstall your driver, i'm sure there's some members having other suggestions for you!
Hope this helps.

I'm running on the 91.47 drivers from Nvidia for my 7600GT card and the problem I have is that the Gamma setting will not stay set. Everything else like the brightness, contrast, etc, etc, all stay the same. But the Gamma setting always goes back to -8 when I reboot.would use the latest drivers but shortly after installing the latest ones, I installed The Sims 2 Bon Voyage (few days after the drivers) and after playing it for the first time, I rebooted and got a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and had to format because no solutions worked. Any ideas?

A:Nvidia Control Panel

after using the nvidia control panel to make your screen adjustments, save it as a profile and set that profile to be the default. Check in your display section inside your control panel that everything is a match to what you set nvidia to, and make sure in msconfig that nvidia is set to run at start up, i think its called nview.exe or nwiz.exe

Hi,
I always changed those Perfomance and Quality thingies, but never noticed a difference, what does it change?
I mean, those 32xq Anti-Aliasing, never seen a difference.

Is there a performance change?
Like, 2 times faster , or??

A:Nvidia Control Panel

I've only noticed slight differences with some games and programs. When using the advanced settings there is a tab for application specific settings and I think those settings override the global settings. Unless your using the slider (basic panel).

I've also noticed that the older the game the less impact your settings seem to have. Like with Doom3, I cant change/improve the quality no matter what settings I use in the CP. I do notice a change in FPS in the game. But visualy, I cant see a difference.

I would be currious to hear some more detailed and accurate info from other users.

Also I'll mention I have the nvidia service set to manual. Im not sure how much impact if any that has.

I am having an issue with nvidia control panel 2.5 and an xp machine with a geforce 6200 by bfgtech.

The problem is that I cannot access the "manage custom resolution" feature in where I should be able to define my resolution wanted and force the resolution.

The reason for this is so that I can use this machine as a media box. It has s-video out and digital audio output so its good to go. The allowed resolutions are not cutting it as they don't display correctly when it is plugged in to the tv. It works but everything looks fuzzy.

I have another laptop with s-video out and it has nvidia control panel 2.2. I was able to select the 720 by 480 resolution which works perfectly with my tv. The tv is a regular 50 inch projection tv using an s-video cable.

Am on x64 and for some reason the Nvidia Control panel never installs? when installing the 195.81 x64 driver's from Nvidia.

The control panel don't show up anywhere. Normally you right click on the desktop and go to it there or find it in the taskbar but there is nothing there and there's nothing in the Nvidia Cooperation folder regarding the control panel either. However in the \Programs\NVIDIA Corporation folder there is only one file which is the NVIDIA PhysX Properties .exe, but that won't load. It says "Windows Cannot find NvCpIU.exe" which am guessing is saying it can't find the control panel.

Specs are
E4500
Gigabyte P35-S3G
4GB OCZ
Evga 9600GT SC
Emu 1820m
Samsung F1 + WD's
7 x64 Ultimate

I've got another rig with my other copy of 7 x64 with a 7600gt and everything works fine with the same driver's, I can access the Nvidia control panel without no problem.
Any advise or idea's?
