Lenovo G500 Unable to Boot Up

Q: Lenovo G500 Unable to Boot Up

Okay where do I start? When I first got my notebook around 2 years ago, it was perfectly fine. A few months from now, that's when it started to mess up in so many ways. My system constantly froze randomly, Windows had trouble booting the system, etc. Aside from these issues, I figured I had to factory reset my system in order to fix it. I did this and my system worked fine, only if I was lucky enough to successfully boot it up. It takes 40+ minutes for it to boot up and it works perfectly fine when it does and when I'm browsing through the desktop, but I think there may be major hard drive issues with it. The D drive/partition, or as it's called, the recovery drive, is inaccessible and empty. When I factory reset my laptop, I was able to open it but it was empty. After a few Windows Updates and boots, I can't do this anymore. Bare in mind I was running Windows 8.1 at the time. This partition could be the main culprit as to why my system takes so long to boot up, but I could be wrong. The only things I've installed on it is Windows 10. These are the things I've done with no success: -Run my notebook without the battery and only the charger-Remove the CMOS battery when booting up notebook-Remove the disc drive and boot up notebook I'm honestly running out of ideas. I've tried looking at the other forums but I think my issue is a lot different then theirs. On the other hand I can sometimes successfully boot up my system so maybe having this could give me more options to resolve this. There may be a possibility it could be a virus, but how can it be possible to infect my system after a factory reset? I've spent days on days trying to fix my notebook to no success. I know there are so many others who are in a similar situation as me so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've just had a new Lenovo Core i5 g500 arrive to test during Best Buy's 2 week return policy period. I've shrunk C, updated to latest BIOS, reset BIOS Boot tab to DIsable Secure Boot, UEFI choice. I then can only get into BIOS menu via Windows 8 Advanced Startup settings since no hotkeys respond, choose UEFI Flash stick to boot, this message flashes: "EFI device has been blocked by current Security policy."

So I reenter BIOS through 8, change to Legacy Support with UEFI First boot. When I reboot into BOot choices it shows the Kingston USB2 stick in both UEFI and Legacy boot choices. I choose UEFI and it gives the missing driver error. Can't choose Legacy because it would want to delete and reformat as MBR.

Before on an Asus discussed here http://www.eightforums.com/general-s...t-seven-2.html I made the Paragon 12 boot disk to image entire HD before wiping to install 7 but it wasn't necessary because I was able to install in the shrink space even though 8 wasn't bootable (a great position to be in). Is this possible on Lenovo? Anyone?

A:New Lenovo G500 need to install 7 in Dual Boot with Ate

Got it. Somehow the Rufus flash stick installer had gone bad as proven when I tried it in another UEFI machine. I reformatted it and was able to install in Legacy with UEFI First.

Once other weird thing is that the latest Lenovo BIOS kept changing back to Secure Boot after each attempt, as though it recognized I hadn't installed another OS and was re-securing 8. Now we'll see if it does it again after Win7 boot up, and if 7/8 can each boot under Legacy.

hi hakaa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If I'm not Mistaken you want to boot the system to your Installation Media, right?

First you can try the hitting F12 when you press the power to turn it ON.
If your Lucky the BIOS is already configured and hitting F12 should give you the Boot menu and will let you choose to boot from CD/DVD, HDD or USB.

If hitting F12 did not give you Boot Menu Option,
Turn the system ON and start hitting F2, Now This will Let you Boot into the BIOS and will give you option to change the Boot sequence,

Hope this info helps,
Please let s know if you have further questions,
Thanks,

Hi Azadkv,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and hanging at Lenovo Logo and the issue persists even after performing Flee-Power step. Hence, I suggest to perform BIOS reset and check if the issue persists. Below are the steps to perform BIOS reset:

To access BIOS menu turn OFF the Laptop and press the NOVO button located beside power button.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Hi keshavshiyal,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may use your serial number here on the parts look up page to get your OEM motherboard part number.
Using the part number to order or search online from other resellers in your location would help.

You can also call in  1-800-3000-9991 or to check here on where to buy as option.

Here is your hardware manual for reference as it includes FRU list to match the part number with the disassembly guide.

I am using Windows 7 , 32 bit. I noticed that on each update of Windows 7 , the sound disappears (and no, its not muted, and no Bluetooth device  ...).The "no sound" can be observed in the following:- No Windows sound when login/logout of windows.- No sound when playing from Internet (Youtube)- When I try to play a file using windows media player, I get the message "windows media player encountered a problem while playing the file". The file is good and played o.k before the update.I am using the latest Conexant driver and all seems to be o.k. In the device manager. To overcome this , I need to reinstall the Conexant driver after each update, which is not acceptable (never had to mess around in any of the previous laptops I had).Any suggestions ?

hi Lior11,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can do this to exclude device driver from Windows Updates

Open a run box (Windows key + R)
Type in sysdm.cpl   hit enter
Then click on Advanced System Settings

You should have a windows with Tabs / Go to Hardware TAB and click on Device Installation settings

Now click on "No let me choose what to do"
Never Install driver software from Windows Update then save changes.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hello there, I own a Lenovo G500, a 2013 model, and I just bought a 2 x 4GB 1600 MHz Kingston HyperX DDR3L memory kit.I pulled the old 4 GB memory out and put the new cards in, but both my Windows 7 and the BIOS see only one of them, so the laptop only uses 4 GB of RAM.I tried putting the cards in one by one, the bottom slot works, but when I only use the top slot, the laptop does not boot. It's likely this is the problem, cause even CPU-Z only sees RAM in one of the slots and displays "Single Channel" running. My question would be: is there a possibility this is a software issue? Is there a way to enable dual channel? If not, could this be a motherboard issue? Thank you. Regards,Darren

Hi there. I'm planning to buy a Lenovo G500 laptop, and I simply can't find the correct answer to one small question.

As you might know, laptops of today incorporate many hotkey functions on their F1-F12 keys. And for that particular Lenovo model (and some of its closely-related brethren), I can't figure out what the F8 hotkey does in Windows 7.

It looks like three small squares, and ''F8'' below them. According to the G500 user manual, it is used to ''display all currently active apps''. As apps are only available in Windows 8, does anyone of you know what purpose could it serve in Windows 7?

I posted this already on Lenovo official forums, but not a single soul bothers to answer. There's gotta be someone who uses Windows 7 on Lenovo G500/G505/G510/G700/G710 or any other Lenovo with inverted Fn/function keys. If you're one of them, press F8 (or Fn+F8) and tell me what happens.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Levance,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is hanging at Lenovo Logo after downgrading the OS (Operating System) in the computer. I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and then try to access BIOS. Below are the steps to perform the same:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

I played on the lowest needs and had maybe 10 fps.I read that i must istall Catalyst Control Center or something from AMD and this should give me possibility to choose between 2 cards (before run the game). But this program doesn't work, He told me that i don't have any AMD components. Maybe I use it wrong, I download Catalyst for 7000series because i don't find on 8000.I use win 7 64bit.Please help and sorry for my engish

A:Lenovo G500 radeon problem

Hi golona,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Please Try uninstalling AMD Driver under Device Manager and make sure to put a check on the prompt asking to delete driver software.
Then Check under Control Panel / Programs and Features / Uninstall any Catalyst or AMD Graphics Components.

Then try to Install This Software
     AMD Video Driver

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

A:Stuck in Lenovo Screen - G500

Hi Picchu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and displaying black screen, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now to access BIOS menu press the NOVO button which is located beside the power button after turning OFF the computer.
Then select the BIOS utility option to enter BIOS.
To reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar
