Brand new Windows 7 not installing software

Q: Brand new Windows 7 not installing software

I just bought a new laptop yesterday, so there's no bugs or anything on it. All I've done is check my gmail, install an the antivirus program Best Buy gave me, and try to install some of my audio recording software (Adobe Audition and Guitar Port).
And that is where my problem starts.
My old computer had windows xp on it, and it ran my software just fine.
Now with this brand new computer, it won't install.
I get just past the part where you agree with all their license stuff,
and then suddenly it tells me, "Setup has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." And then it just closes the program.
I bought this software in 2007, so I hope it isn't "too old" for Windows 7 or something...

Preferred Solution: Brand new Windows 7 not installing software

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

A few days ago, I bought a GALAX Gamer 120GB SSD and a Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM HDD from a PC parts store. I installed them in my tower's case and connected them up. Then, I attempted to install Windows 8.1 Core onto the SSD from a bootable USB drive I had made using Microsoft's Installation Media Creation Tool. The installer promptly error'd. I attempted a few more times, to no avail. I contact MS's answer desk, and they couldn't help, so I left it for the night and went to bed. The next day, I decide that I will attempt to install Windows onto the HDD and then clone it over. Of course, it installed perfectly fine on the HDD. Using both Windows' System Image Backup/Restore tool and a myriad of others, I still could not get an installation on the SSD. I ran a surface test on the SSD which turned up fine. I tried again tonight with the same USB drive to install Windows onto the SSD, again, it error'd, I contacted the MS Answer Desk again, they had me change a BIOS settings, and then take my ram cards out and clean them with an eraser. Neither of those worked, and MS support suggested I contact a local tech as it is a hardware issue.

Do you guys have any thoughts on what I should do? Feel free to PM or reply asking for more info.

So here's the story. One of our staff knocked a ThinkCentre A2U onto the floor.  It appears that the HDD is damaged beyond repair - we can't get past the BIOS screen. Easy enough to buy a new HDD, but how to install Windows 7?  We have the Product Key, but Microsoft rejected it saying that we needed to contact the manufacturer - Lenovo. So here we are.  DigitalRiver is no help, it just refers back to Microsoft. Any suggestions, guys?

a little while ago my hard disk broke so i just bought a new one to replace it.

now im just a little concerned about my windows XP activation key. if i use the same key i used on the old (and now broken) drive, will it still work on my new drive? or do i have to buy another copy or something to get it working?

ive tried a dozen things to get my old drive back in order but nothing worked so i threw it out. i know that i cant use the same key on multiple machines but im just wondering will Windows be able to recognise the fact that im upgrading now?

First of all, can I say that I am somewhat computer illiterate, but I am determined.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer, the specs are:

Intel Core i7 2700K CPU - 3.5GHz
Gigabyte / Asus Z68 Motherboard
16GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM
1TB SATA3 7200RPM Hard Disk
BluRay Combo Drive(LG)
2 x ATI HD6970 2GB PCI-e in Crossfire configuration
Antec Nine Hundred Gaming Case
Thermaltake Tough Power XT 875W PSU

Now it comes time to install windows 7 professional, so I purchase a copy of the OEM version (because I'm stingy).

When I put the DVD in the drive it boots straight away and it comes up with a black screen that says "Windows is loading files........." . The bar on the screen loads and then it says "Starting Windows", after that a blue screen with some leaves and what looks like a very small bird appears in what I am assuming is meant to be the start of the windows 7 professional setup screen, however nothing comes up and after a while (5 minutes or so) my computer restarts and it's groundhog day (has been doing it for the last 3 hours).

Can anyone help me?

Hi all, trying to setup up a secondary monitor (LG 24MP58) for my Lenovo Yoga 900 tablet...to no avail. Everything seems to be assembled correctly, but absolutely no response from the LG. Doesn't even light up or appear to be "trying" to work. There are no physical buttons or controls of any kind, on the monitor. Win 10 generated a PnP monitor in Devices. HDMI is connected to Type-C USB port on tablet via Insignia adapter. Would eventually like to have a duplicate of my tablet screen on the LG.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

My husband bought me a brand new laptop from Best Buy and also recently purchased an iPod touch for me for Mother's day. I had downloaded iTunes 9 on my old laptop (before getting this new one), the old computer was running Windows XP and I did not encounter any problems installing iTunes 9 & using it to get my Touch started.

I wish to install iTunes 9 on the new computer to use for playing, storing, and burning CDs but when the download is complete and I start going through the installation process, at the very end of it all I get an error message saying that the installer detected an error and the installation could not be completed...and then something about try installing later. I would have copied and pasted the message but I am in a bit of a hurry and I don't have time to sit through the whole download again to get the message.

Anyway, I can follow directions but if anyone has any help to offer please put the information in lamens terms...I'm very familiar with computers and other forms of technology but after wasting all day trying to solve this on my own I just want someone who can help to give me the simple steps to solve this problem so I can get iTunes up and running.

A:Installing old software on Windows 7

Some old programs are just not compatible with Windows 7.
I would recommend downloading Windows Virtual PC or Virtual Box and installing an old copy of Windows XP or 98 in it.

Getting old programs to work can be way more trouble than it's worth and virtualisation is fairly simple now a days.

Of course the other alternative is to find another program with similar capabilities, I'm not familiar with 3D Home Architect Deluxe 2.1 but could Google Sketch Up do the same thing?

I just unpacked my custom build and got it turned on.. went to try and get the internet working, and for the life of me.. i can't figure it out.
I don't even have a little wireless bar down in the right hand corner. when i try to connect to a network in network and sharing center, it wants me to plug in an ethernet cable. But i want wireless.. Also in the side panel of Network and sharing center, i don't even have the option for wireless.. i have Change adapter settings, and Change advanced sharing settings.

I try to set up a new connection or network and Connect to the internet, the only way it asks me to connect is by broadband(PPPoE). If i try set up a new network it asks me to choose the wireless router or access point i want to configure, might take up to 90 seconds for networks to appear.. but nothing pops up.
Anyone have any ideas?

I think my Windows Ultimate 64-bit is cursed... It nearly seems as tho EVERY time I install something a bit 'chunky' (.. or like today. a 'repair' of previously installed software... such as my effort today to 'repair' Roxio 2012, for instance..), I get the accursed notice that "..Windows has detected a hardware change and must be re-activated.."
I've had the same computer hardware for over three years (Intel i5-2500K on an MSI P67A-GD55 mobo holding 16GB of DDR3-SDRAM and two 1TB Seagate HDDs) with this (for the most part) same unchanged hardware ... virtually unchanged software (INCLUDING this Roxio 2012 software I mentioned - uh-except for the on-going hundreds of "Windows Updates" ...). And to the best of my knowledge, NO OTHER CHANGES ...
And yet.. it seems as tho WAY too often I have to 're-activate' Windows - time after time after time.. (like more than FIVE times in the past two years.. and I even had to make a telephone call to achieve activation after changing the disk controller to AHCI when I installed my 256 GB Sandisk SSD Extreme 'boot disk'... which, for this, I most assuredly understood WAS no doubt a "significant" hardware alteration so 'reactivation' might have been necessary..) and yet, in too many cases I seem to ALWAYS have to 'reactivate' after seemingly 'minor' software changes (such as this morning's effort to 'repair' Roxio 2012).
Simply put.. this makes absolutely NO sense to me that what WAS installed ... Read more

A:Windows needs re-activation after installing SOFTWARE ..?! REALLY..?!

It is unusual. The only thing you mention that raises red flags is Roxio which is considered pernicious bloatware that can't be gotten rid of fast enough when it comes preinstalled. Not sure why you'd install that on a custom build since all of its features are found in Windows Media Center.

I have several questions regarding subject:

System: Win7-Pro, All Service Packs, Single User.

1) If the older software is "Not Signed" will it install and run using "Compatabiliy Mode" or is some other tweak necessary either in Windows or MOBO?

2) If the software installs or needs various files (e.g. MSVBVM50.DLL) which comes in a executable (EXE)
and who know what else is in the EXE, will Windows 7 prompt before it overwrites current DLLs of the same name?

3) Of current interest is getting All-API-Guide loaded on Window 7 (ran fine on XP).
This is the link: AllAPI.net - Your #1 source for using API-functions in Visual Basic!
Install appears to run fine however notification is received saying "Not Signed"
Attemtping to run App after install -- including in various "compability modes" -- gives (error 50003).
Using Process Monitor have determined Software could NOT find"
a) cmctl98.chm -- whether CRITICAL is unknown
b) Two (I believe) language files (ENGLISH37.LNG and DUTCH37.LNG).
Search of NET has Not yielded anything on these files as to whether they were part of Win98
and WinXP.

A:Installing Older Software Windows 7

"1) If the older software is "Not Signed" will it install and run using "Compatabiliy Mode" or is some other tweak necessary either in Windows or MOBO?" One will have to invoke Compatibility Mode within main EXE properties, it often is not automatically done. Wifey and I had to install Windows XP Mode 'cause many games would not work within Windows 7 regardless of "say-so."

I suspect the answer will be NO but I thought I would ask...

I have Windows Me. I have been trying to install software for a Thrustmaster Top Gun USB joystick for the last three days. Nothing I have tried works. I've tried drivers, I've tried installing all the files manually, nothing works. When I try to install the software from the CD I get this error: "Unknown Windows Version, Setup cannot continue. Installation only valid for Windows 950B-OSR2.x.

Version is 4.90.3000." I have not idea what this means. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows error while Installing Joystick Software

Your error message seems to indicate that this CD is ONLY valid on a Windows 95 OSR-2 operating system which I must admit sounds a bit weird. I had an old joystick I was running on a Windows 3.1 system that similarly would not load in Windows 98.
I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me an updated installation/drivers disc. I suggest this is your best bet.
Maybe their web-site will have a downloadable fix?
Good luck.
Or you could always buy another joystick??!!??

Windows 10 normally will not do that unless the application is too old.  Adobe Premiere Elements 8 appears to be from  2009, well before Windows 10.  You might need to get a newer version.

I'm not familiar with WinME, but it is my understanding that newer versions of Windows will work retroactivley with older software.

This may not be true in all cases but should be true for most.

That is to say, installing software orignally designed for W95 should work just fine with W98 and newer (and presumabley WME)systems, but trying to run software designed for W98 or newer may not be supported in W95, or W3.1.

Hi Anyone..

A friend just gave me a Epson Perfection 610 scanner. But it had no instalation disk with it. I hopefully download the right sofrware off the Epson site. After instalation, the Wizard opened up, but gave a warning about the Win logo???? It said if I install without the logo, my computer could be get messed up! Its been years since I have downloaded software off the internet. But it seems someone told me one time that the Win Logo is not that important, and just to select it to download.I certainly don't want a computer crash. I did cancel the Wizard installation. I can try it again, and just take my chances and hope it doesn't make my computer inoportive. Any suggestions please?

If the printer works and windows recognizes it, your fine, the wizard can become a nuisance sometimes. If it doesn't work though, I would advize removing the software you installed and using the wizard.

I just recieved my new Dell dimernsion 4600 and wanted to install an Optorite DVD+/-RW that I just purchased. The burner reads and writes in both cd and DVD. My new Dell came only with a CD ROM drive. I am wanting to know if there would be an advantage to keeping the new Dell CD-ROM drive in my computer or should I just install the DVD burner in its place.

THanks for your assistance. I am definitely new at installing hardware so any tips about the installation process would be very helpful

A:installing DVD burner on my brand new dell

If the CDROM is on the secondary IDE cable, install the DVDRW on the same cable as the CDROM. Make the DVDRW master and the CDROM slave.

This way you can do on the fly CD to CD copying.

At the end of the year you can replace the CDROM with one of those Dual layer DVD 16x drives that are supposed to be coming out.

All this techie stuff is Latin to me. So bear with me. I took Spanish in high school.

1. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505. I bought it used 4 years ago.
2. I am installing a brand new hard drive, fresh out of the box.
3. The drive that died on me was a Seagate Momentus 7200.1, 100GB, 7200 RPM, Firmware 8.04
4. I went online to best buy and micro center, but am in the dark regarding the driver interface. Since the laptop is pretty much dead in the water, how can I determine the it? I'll need to know that before I walk up to the kid in the store, right?
5. As soon as you tell me what I need to buy, I'll install it and then have some questions about installing Windows XP.

Thanks in advance,

A:Installing a brand new hard drive, what's next?

Hey Patrick,

Yes you check what the problem is in your lap before buying the HDD. So,
Does the laptop turns on without the hard disk? If so a message should appear there is no boot device.
If the lap works fine without the hard disk well you should buy the new one.
If the lap is pretty much dead well it is probably dead from every circuit on it.

My wife and I bought a new dell laptop about 4 months ago.  We have been having issues since almost day 1 that have not been resolved as of yet.  Thankfully (I think), we have an extended warranty and, to Dell's credit, they have been there for every phone call.  Our problem is that the same issue keeps coming up which tells me Dell could have serious technical support issues (some people may not be shocked at this).  My wife is in grad school and we just need the problem fixed.  The technical support people have logged on to our computer and have tried several times to fix the problem, but it keeps coming back.  My wife only isuse it for school and works off of a school website so there are no other issues from other sites that could cause problems.  They say they want us to biy an external hard drive, back everything up and let them do a factory reset.  My problem with that is I am not going to buy another product to help your product become functional.  This will be the last product even remotely associated with Dell I will purchase.

A:Software issues on brand new dell

Please list Dell model and versions of windows. Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10.
Secondly, what issues you're having with the system ? Maybe we can help resolve the problems. Lastly, you should buy an external drive. Keep in mind, you can backup your photos, music, videos and other important stuff to a portable backup drive. You'll need it when the internal hard drive start to fail or the system fail itself. You can buy a external drive (recommend Seagate,1TB) at your local Walmart or go online for about $54.00.

I have downloaded and will install a trial PC-Cillin VS program. Is it safe to leave my present VS (McAfee) installed while I try PC-Cillin? I will surely disable and remove it from start-up, but hope I can keep it installed until I know for sure that I no longer need it.

A:AntiVirus Software: Must it be Uninstalled to Try Another Brand?

I would NOT do it. Anti-virus software is pretty invasive (into your system) and many will tell you before you install to make sure you've uninstalled any others. Some will even tell you that you cannot run their own previous version.

I recently installed Win 10 64 bit 1809 from downloaded media on my T440s with a brand new SSD. Everything works fine and is up to date. I had been interested to see how things worked before installing any Lenovo software or drivers. Now windows Update is offering "Lenovo - System":My questions:1. What exactly is this going to install?2. What Lenovo software is important to install on top of a vanilla Windows installation?3. For an older PC like the T440s, should I be relying on Lenovo or Windows to decide what drivers to install?

Recently I decided to try overclocking my CPU, my motherboard (An ASUS P8z68-V Pro) comes with Windows software to allow this. The software would not load, and the ASUS website had a handy patcher that would patch *something* to allow newer versions of the software to work. Every since installing this patch I have been experiencing random BSODs and lowered performance in games and Windows in general. Worth mentioning that I have no actually oced the system at this point as the software still will not install, and the patcher does not have an uninstall option and has not changed anything readily obvious to me. In addition to this Planetside 2 is showing far lower performance and far higher instances of crashing than before, and other games refuse to run altogether. SF Diag Tool files are attached.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
You have 29 programs stored at Startup. Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.
As it is crashing in attempt to overclock, let it be free from overclocking. Also, some crashing systems cannot stand SpyBot installed. As a test, you may uninstall it, Too. As you have MSE and MBAM installed, that is enough of security.

Let us know the results.

I keep getting messages that windows has to close and I may lose data. These messages are long numbers that end in the extension .exe. I think I accidentally deleted running applications under the task manager when I was trying to troubleshoot my computer one day. I have new antivirus software on here that is working well. I don't know how to get rid of these numerous error messages. Help!

Hi, this is my first topic on this site but I really need some help. My laptop has been having this issue lately where whenever I try to install an antivirus (namely AVG) an error will occur. The software normally installs correctly and will even run some general scans. It rarely finds some generic threat but normally comes up clean. But soon the whole laptop reboots. As it runs its startup process, it will say that windows was unable to start and I will be forced to restore to a point right before the software was installed. Any ideas on why this happens? And if so how can i fix it?

There are 2 basic types of hard drive that most people will want to install.

They are 1 - Pata, also called ide and ata. Easy to recognise as they have a large 40pin socket and jumper settings.

And 2 - Sata, both sata 1 and 2 are set up in the same way. They are easy to recognise as they don't have a 40 way socket but have a 4 way instead.

There are also scsi hard drives but i doubt may people will be using them so i will not be dealing with them in this post!!

Pata - Pata's will connect via a 40 way data cable that has 2 plugs on it excluding the one that plugs into the mobo.

It is VERY VERY important to get the jumper settings correct or THEY WILL NOT WORK!!!!

There are 3 basic jumper settings, cable select, master, and slave.
The easiest way to set them up is to use cable select. The mobo itself will then assign master and slave as it sees fit. Usually it will set the drive on the end plug as master and the other one as a slave.

If you are running more than 1 pata drive on the same cable then you must insure they are both set to cable select or that 1 is set to master and 1 is set to slave. Having both set to master WILL NOT WORK, and having both set to slave WILL NOT WORK.

Once that is set correctly most mobo's will be happy and boot fine, if yours doesn't then you will need to check the bois settings. The instructions for doing this will be in your mobo manual!!!

Sata - Only 1 device is catered for per cable so ther... Read more

One minor correction to avoid potential confusion. It's really a 40 pin, 80 wire cable. Most will know what you mean, however.

I am trying to install Spore and in the middle of the installation it gives me a CRC Error! I think it's either the CDROM Drive or a bad spot on the hardisk because other new games will install fine. No scratches on disk and a used CDROM?

HELP!! This is frustrating!
Thank you!

A:CRC Erorr message installing brand new Game

CRC is a mean of verifying the integrity of the data. The content of the data that's written on the drive is compared to a reference data. Could be an error on the CD, with the CD drive or on the hard drive but an overheating cpu or a failing ram stick can also cause read/write errors.

See if you can install the game on another computer to check whether it's the CD or your computer that's in cause. If it installs fine on another computer come back and report here.

The actual problem I am encountering is that I get a "asms file is needed" message and I have no idea what to do from here. I investigated several threads that my search took me to but the threads have been closed and I didnt find and solutions. I have the original WXP pro install disc and SP2 & SP3. I am not at all PC savvy so I need help with what to do from here. Can someone please help?

A:Trouble installing WinXP pro on brand new drive

Is that an actual XP Pro CD, and is it XP original or XP SP1?

If you've installed a new hard drive, it needs to be formatted before you can install XP Pro in it.

The XP Pro CD does all the work - if that's what you have.

A:Lenovo IdeaCentre 510-15ABR - installing an SSD for brand

A SSD is no different from a regular spinning drive to the computer , and per the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model, you can add a M.2 SSD storage drive (see page 34 of Hardware maintenance manual) in addition to the drive you already have if it is a spinner  in the storage bay, so there is no reason to go with a hybrid, and I believe one additional storage bay is available on that model as well that can accept an addition 3.5" drive, or even a 2.5" HDD or SSD drive (with 3.5"-2.5" adapter) as shown on page 37. Cheers,

Hi I recently built a system, bought all the parts on newegg, put it all together, and everything starts up fine, seems really smooth. Unfortunately when I try to install vista, it BSOD's on me before I can even get to any startup screen. It goes to the windows loading files part, then on the next teal blue screen it bsod's. I bought a new sound system along with all the other components and it included a sub that warns to keep it away from PC's etc. Unfortunately they put the boxes right next to each other outside my door, is there any chance it could have fried both my HD's? I've tried everything I can think of, installing with just 1 HD (tried both), tried with 1 stick of ram (tried both), I just can't think of what else it could be. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible or else I wouldn't even get this far, but I'll list my system.

Also tried to install windows xp as a last resort, I get a bsod during installation on that (right at the end, finalizing installation step) and eventually I even got it installed, but then it bsod right at the end. When I restarted I even got to a mainscreen kinda, where it told me it was changing my resolution, it changed it then I got an error about Windows media player. Tried repairing the install and it said couldn't copy file wmp.dll along with about 30 other files. I'm just at a loss and really frustrated here. Anyway, here is the system.

A:BSOD installing Vista on a brand new comp

Hi -

I am concerned about the formatting of the drive(s).

Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try the Vista installation again. Leave XP out of this for now.

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Be sure to change the BIOS firing order so the DVD is 1st.

If you get another BSOD, get at least the 1st 2 sets of numbers. Any digits to the right of the "0x" that are zeroes are assumed. So, if the code is

0x0000008e -- this is equal to 0x8e or 8e

Try to get the "8e" or whatever the number is from the 1st and 2nd set of numbers of the bugcheck

A few weeks ago I decided to get a new computer for gaming, but not knowing much in the field of hardware I let my cousin (way better on the subject) basically pick out the parts, let me order them, and he'd put it together.

The parts came a few days ago and Ive had the computer built for awhile, we ordered Vista home premium with it (32 bit edition) and I still have yet to get it installing correctly.

So basically the first night I start installing it, everything seems to be going fine but its taking a LONG time (around 7 hours), at 1 AM it still shows no signs of being done and I did not want to leave it on overnight, so I turned it off.

Turned it on the next morning, saying it didnt finish and would need to resintall, tried it again except this time it stays at 0% on the second step ("Expaning Files")

I mean, after like an hour or 2, its still at 0%, but the computer has not actually FROZEN, just hanging or whatever.

Ok, no big deal, I use a reformating program, completely wipe the HD and try again.

Its not freezing anymore! huzzah! So I wait for 7 MORE long hours, watching it slowly install, it restarts a few times, theres some points where its just a black screen with the mouse cursor for like 15 minutes, I get the "Vista is preparing for its first start" message, it restarts, says its completeing the installation, then I get an error saying something along the lines of "Windows setup failed to install Vista on this hardware"... A:Huge issues installing Vista on a brand new PC

It's possible that you got bad memory or a bad drive. Start with the memory. If you have multiple sticks, remove them one at a time and try to install. If you want faster results, use a memory test. You can use the one on the Vista DVD or:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

Then I'd suspect some misconfiguration of the drive. Check BIOS settings and look on the drive for a jumper (even SATA).

I've installed a few Vistas and the number 7 was not ever involved, even on old machines.
