Q: lost folder in outlook 2007 contacts

It's probably my fault since most things are. Yesterday I had trouble sending email. I looked in the add-ins and saw the COM addin for Microsoft Hotmail connector. Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.

How can I get it back?

I did a system restore but the Personal Folder in Contacts Outlook 2007 is not there. The add-in is.

Preferred Solution: lost folder in outlook 2007 contacts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd try Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download - http://www.piriform.com/recuva .

I used it a day ago when I inadvertently hit the Delete button, rather than Rename on a file I wanted (I delete without using the Recycle Bin) and it worked perfectly, restored the file to original location.

How can I import the 251 contacts that exist in my Contacts folder into Outlook 2007?
When I drag all of them into Outlook contacts they create a single contact.

A:Importing contacts from the Contacts folder into Outlook 2007

Hi johnbigbootie89,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Let me apologize that it took so long for someone to reply to your request - but it is now active and I think we'll be able to resolve it. In fact, I think I have just what you need.

Check out the following article: Importing contacts from Windows Contacts folder | MSOutlook.info. Make sure you use the Vista procedure. It seems the article was designed specifically for this purpose so I have high hopes it will accomplish your objective. You do not drag the contents (which is essentially copy/paste) - you use import/export instead.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hello all:

First time poster.

In the folder/tree view on the left in Outlook 2007 (Windows XP Pro) the Contacts folder is not showing up.

In Outlook 2003, it was right there underneath Calendar, which, by the way, is also missing from the Folder/Tree view.

I can access my Contacts via the big tab at the bottom but I want the tree/folder view as it broke up the hierarachy very nicely.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance,

A:Outlook Contacts not showing up in Tree/Folder view (Outlook 2007)

Use "Folder List" view to see all of your folders in a single list. Either click the little folder icon in the Navigation Pane on the left-hand side or click Go | Folder List in the Menu Bar.

Hi, I was trying to backup my contacts on my Nokia E-71 phone using Outlook 2007, this is my first time doing it. We've purchased a new laptop and are using Office 07 now, Windows XP, instead of the old office 03. Regarding Outlook, when I tried to save the old .pst file(Outlook 03) and then import old emails and contacts, the emails imported very easily into Outlook 07. However, none of the contacts were imported. Is there a simple way to export or save Outlook 2003 contacts to a file that can then be imported into Outlook 2007 on a separate computer??

A:Trouble transferring Outlook 2003 contacts to Outlook 2007

Export the old contact as a .CSV file and then re-import into the new installation.

I had a crash and the operating system had to be restored non-destructively. The backup operation saved the Microsoft Outlook .pst file. I have now recovered all the e-mails but the Contacts folder is "empty" when looking for an address. The Contacts folder (as well as the Calendar folder) also does not appear in the list of folders in the Navigation Pane. If I attempt to export a comma separated file (DOS) from the Personal Folders, the "Contacts" folder appears in the window when browsing for the folder to export. If I export that file, all the contacts are there complete with all the addresses when viewed as an Excel file. Any suggestions on how to integrate the contacts into the Personal folder without having to recreate a contact file manually from the Excel file? Cheers, Wondering Willy

I am so confused about where outlook 2013 keeps things.

I have installed Outlook 2013 and would like to import my contacts from my outlook 2007 in another computer. I have already prepared the contacts.pst file from outlook 2007 and made it available in my public folders. I then imported the .pst file into Outlook 2013 via network. However the contacts shows up as a separate contact list rather than integrated into the outlook 2013 address book . How to correct it?

I must have got the process wrong.

A:outlook 2013 import contacts from outlook 2007

OK. I found the imported contacts in a separate list inside the address book. There are 2 lists one is "In This computer" the other is just "contacts" . How do I make the "contacts "list as the default so I get an address book when I click on 'To" ?

From looking at other computers and on the Internet, it appears that the Contacts folder is supposed to have a customized menu bar with a "New Contact" button, but on this machine the menu looks the same as every other folder. I don't use this folder/app very often, so I can't say exactly when this changed, but the desktop.ini file in this folder has a relatively recent modification date, and contains the following:

[email protected]%CommonProgramFiles%\system\wab32res.dll,-10100
[email protected]%CommonProgramFiles%\system\wab32res.dll,-10200

I can still add new contacts by selecting "Contact" from the "New" submenu, but it'd be easier if I had the button in the menu bar. How can I get it back?

In Outlook 2007 I have my contacts set up
Down the side bar (left side of screen) it reads contacts and then it says New Group
and you can great a new group of contacts. I have a few contacts that I would like to move from my "general" list of contacts to special group of their own. I can set up a new group, but have no idea how to move contacts into that group, or to create a new contact in that new group. Please note -- I am not talking about setting up a group email distribution list - I am talking about moving a specific number of business contacts from my general list of contacts to a new group.

A while ago I started using Outlook 2007 on another PC, (W10)
now I have a new W10 PC with Outlook 2007 installed.

I use Hotmail for my email address and have set up Outlook 2007 on the new PC.

I had a lot of trouble getting my Hotmail Contacts working in Outlook 2007 on my other PC and do not recall all the steps that I used, however I do have Outlook/Contacts working well on the other PC so I am hoping that all I have to do is copy a folder from the other PC and that my new PC will have Outlook 2007 contact working the same when I have done that.

Hopefully someone can tell me which folder to copy over and what settings I need in Outlook 2007.

Hello All,
I have an issue with an employee's Outlook Contacts.
I imported her contacts from and Excel file into her Outlook profile.
Once imported, I noticed that for one, there are duplicates even when the option is checked not to include/import duplicates.
Also, the last name is showing first instead of vice verse for half of the contacts but the other half is first then last.
The employee wants all of them to show as first then last and I have checked all of the settings (that I know of) to allow this option to be enabled.
Any ideas on this one?

My contacts folder is suddenly behaving like a regular folder. All the buttons specific to the contacts folder that used to be there like "New Contact", "Import/Export" are gone, replaced by the general folder buttons. There is no way to add a new contact. Even the File > New menu is missing "Contact".

If I look at the properties for the folder it's missing it's "Customize" tab. From within the folder, no "Customize this folder" option exists, like in other folders. Everything I've found online related to this suggests using these customize options, but they are not there to use.

I need to setup 2 sets of contacts under Outlook 2007 at home and sync those with 2 different blackberry devices, mine and my wife's. Both of us have left work and have new blackberries for private use, without our contacts on there.
- We are perfectly happy to use the same user account or different accounts, whatever works
- We do not need to access email under Outlook - happy to do so via webmail - both of us have separate Yahoo! accounts.
- We both have the relevant .pst / .csv files from work containing our info. We would like to import these separately so that we can add to our contacts, either on Outlook or on our blackberries so that if in future we change employer, we can export our contacts separately
- Calendars should also sync separately
Thank you

A:Need to set up 2 sets of contacts in Outlook 2007 on same PC

If you setup dual profiles on Outlook you will both have your own calendars and contacts so all will stay seperate when you connect your blackberry devices. Then you just setup the blackberry Desktop Manager to sync with the profile you want.

Ever since I upgraded to MS office 2007 and used Outlook 2007, I have been having a series of weird problems. Contacts seemed to be filed randomly rather than alphabetically. When I try to save a new contact, I get a message saying that the File As field is empty, even though it is clearly filled. Trying to open old saved contacts sometimes produced a message saying that the "message has not been downloaded."
I sync Outlook with a Palm Treo 700p and the contacts work fine on the Palm. Since I switched to an iPhone, some of the contact information (phone #s, email addresses) don't carry over to the phone.

It is maddening to waste so much time getting a basic business tool to work as it is supposed to!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, we are having trouble syncing this specific contact list with the iphone. Do you have to be the creator of the list to sync with the iphone?

I changed jobs and moved to Outlook 2007 about 90 days ago, and thought that I had successfully merged all of my old contacts from Outlook 2003 into my new Outlook 2007 contact address book. Now I find that there are several contacts that are not visible in my Outlook 2007 Contact listing (in any view), but they can be found by using the "Search all Contact Items" box. In my Contact Items there are check boxes for my main Mailbox as well as two personal files, but the personal files are not checked. Also in My Contacts, there are two files listed, one is Contacts and the other is Contacts in Mailbox <name omitted> but that files has nothing in it. I cannot find a contact file anywhere else that has the other contacts in it. Can anyone help me find all the hidden contacts so I can get them merged into one main contact file? Thank you!

PROBLEM - I've been a bit of a complete tw*t; no a really big and complete tw*t!! Attempted to move/copy newly and painstakingly formatted and cleaned contacts data fron 'Contacts' to 'Business Contacts' on 'Business Contacts Manager'. (Again, TW*T!). What seems to have happened is that all formatting has been lost, i.e. phone number format, categorisation, layout, the lot! It seems to have resorted to a copy held somewhere that is about 10 days old.

ATTEMPTED SOLUTION - Even a tw*t wouldn't be thought crazy if he tried to simply copy them back, but no go; it copies back only the most basic information.

Thanks so much in advance of any thoughts,

I am helping a non-profit organization with their email - they are trying to export from 2003 into 2007.

The 2003 contacts contain sub folders that we imported to 2007 as a .pst file through the import function.

The contact folders show up as separate folders under contacts, but are not available to select from when sending a new email. The contacts folder is available, but not the subfolders.

Is there a fix?

An important contact does not show up in the list of contacts in Outlook 2007. There is only one contact list. If I export that list, the contact does not appear in the resulting Excel file either.

But if I type the first two letters of the contact's name at the TO: prompt, the contact appears. The data is there, but where?

If you want to take a look at and edit the list of auto-complete email address stored try:

I have been running Outlook 2007 on my desktop (Windows XP, SP 3) to manage my contacts, calendars, notes and email. I was also syncing this data to my iPhone 3G. All was well, until ...

Recently I made some changes:

1. I got a new laptop (Windows XP, SP 3) and loaded Outlook 2007 and imported the .pst file from the desktop.

2. I registered with www.apple.com for the "Mobile Me" service. I began to sync the data (contacts, calendar, notes etc) from Outlook in my Desktop and Laptop and my iPhone USING the Mobile Me 'cloud' computing platform.

I began to notice that many of the contacts that were originally on the desktop were missing both on the desktop and new laptop; howver these missing contacts are still on the iPhone and in the mobile me cloud.

3. To troubleshoot I turned off the Mobile Me syncing function on both the desktop and laptop. I also got a replacement iPhone. I also removed and re-installed iTunes on both computers. I am now only syncing the iPhone with the new laptop computer using the cable provided by Apple.

Here is the problem: many contacts (at least 12) that were originally in Outlook on my desktop and laptop are missing. However, they are still on my iPhone. Despite the fact that I sync the iPhone with the laptop, these 'missing' contacts do not sync back to the laptop. I'm using MobileMe with Outlook 2007 at work and Outlook 2003 at home. You can resync your data under MobileMe preferences using the Advanced tab (right click on the MobileMe cloud in your taskbar, bottom right of your computer screen). But before you do that, backup your address book & calendar files on your computer. I had one bad experience with Apple support where I lost everything and didn't have a recent backup. It wasn't pretty!

The only sync related problem I've experienced is with my calendars. Because I'm using more than one computer, MobileMe tries to sync more than one calendar (ie. home calendar and work calendar). Because I only want one calendar, I have to make sure I'm entering appointments in the same calendar on each computer. I just turn off the calendar that I want to ignore by unchecking the box in the My Calendar list on the left hand side of my calendar screen.

I had no choice but to use MobileMe since I sync to two computers. It works great but I just wish it was free!

Edited to add: I'm using Vista at work and XP at home

Now that i have a gps receiver for my pda..i find it important to correctly enter contact addresses so that i can use "contacts" in my gps software to navigate to my contact's house.

Most notably, it will not recognize the 6 alpha numeric postal code to slot it into the "zip/postal code" section. neither does it put hte province or city properly.

My global settings are set to Canada (so it will default to Canada as countyr). Is there a patch, plugin for this? It's not a huge problem, but it'd be nice if it could recognize & slot the info appropriately instead than me having to type hte address, then go back & cut & paste city/postal code/ street & manually put them in the right places...

I'm running Outlook 2007 on Windows 7, and Outlook will not search Contacts...any part of Contacts. I've tried all I know except that of uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook 2007. What to do?

A:Solved: Outlook 2007 won't search contacts

Open Outlook and in the menu bar, click Help >> Office Diagnostics

If that doesn't fix it, run the Office 2007 uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs. You should get three options:
Modify, Repair, Uninstall.
Choose Repair.

Third and most drastic method (but also the most likely to succeed) is to remove & re-install Outlook.
(it won't re-install unless you uninstall it first).
Your existing messages & contacts should remain intact but back them up first (export as a PST file) just in case.
