Download movies from the internet safely

Q: Download movies from the internet safely

Hello there! :-) My name is Manolis and I come from Athens, Greece.
I know it is illegal to download movies from the internet and I apologise in advance for that. However, I wanted to download some movies of the european cinema of the 50s, 60s and 70s that I cannot possibly find at my local video club. Is there a safer way to download these movies?  Can I download movies and at the same time make sure my pc doesn't contract a virus?
Thank you!

Preferred Solution: Download movies from the internet safely

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A Girl in Black (Greek: ?? ????ts? µe ta ?a??a) is a 1956 Greek dramatic film by the Cypriot director Michael Cacoyannis starring Dimitris Horn and Ellie Lambeti. The film takes place on the Greek island of Hydra, where two Athenian visitors become entangled in local feuds after one of them falls in love with a local girl.
It was one of the first Greek films to achieve international recognition (Golden Globe award).
Many of the "rapid fire" Greek movies have no links left, but some still do.

Hi @Noath17bell, Welcome to the HP Forum. I grasp that you downloaded movies onto an USB drive,  when you try to play them , the ones in  MPEG format has both video and audio.but the other formats you get the video but no audio. As this does not appear to be a hardware issue, but a software one please contact Chromebook Help.  HP does not support the Chrome operating system but does support the hardware.  This link may also be useful. HP Chrome OS - Frequently Asked Questions about Your HP Chromebook or Chromebox. Good Luck! To say thanks for helping, please click the "Thumbs Up Icon" below. I have a friend's Dell Inspiron M5040 laptop computer running Win 7 Home Premium. She has completely trashed the OS and I have tried everything to get the laptop up and running to no avail. What I am looking for is a web site where I can safely download a new copy of Win 7, place the image on a disk and reinstall the OS on the laptop. I recall doing this a couple years ago and used the product code that came with the computer and everything worked fine. I would like to do the same with this laptop - download a legit copy of Win 7 and use the product code that came with the computer. The problem is that I do not recall the web site I downloaded the software from. When I Google for some sites it appears the sites are 3rd party distributers and want money or are loaded with unwanted programs. Could someone recommend a site to download Win 7 safely without all of the add-ons. Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Need web site to download Win 7 safely

You can download an ISO image of Windows 7 directly from Microsoft.  As long as you have a product number for the install you should have no problem reinstalling it.

Morning all,
I need to download some pictures into my home computer. However, I can't be 100% sure that the USB I'm using isn't infected. 99% sure, but...always that wee shred of doubt.
So my idea was this: using the USB on a different computer, I could upload the pictures into my Facebook, and then, using my home computer (the place where I want the pictures), download them from Facebook. In other words, use Facebook as the medium rather than letting the USB touch my home computer.
Would this render the pictures safe for my home computer?
Bear in mind these would all be my pictures - I'm not talking about anyone else's, of course.

A:Can I download pictures from Facebook safely?

Hi there,Downloading pictures from Facebook should be safe, if it was done with the way you described. Malware typically do not spread via pictures unless there is some exploit, but then those are rare too.To prevent some malware (mostly file infectors - the ones that commonly infect machines via flash drives) you can use Panda USB Vaccine to vaccinate the flash drives. Be noted that the flash drive will be formatted in the process, so make sure to get any data off the flash drive before vaccinating.

Inspiron 14R-5437 Intel Core i3-4010U processor with Intel HD Graphics 4400, 8GB of system memory, a 500GB hard drive. Handbrake working, did an upgrade, won't rips movies anymore, gets stuck as it tries to download movie. Handbrake activity log says as Handbrake is trying to (unsuccessfully) rip the movie: libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_0.VOB at 0x002d7dc3
Also further down on activity log: dvd: DVDReadBlocks failed (77729), skipping to vobu 77797.
And further down still: [23:48:41] dvd: vobu read error blk 105615 - skipping to next blk incr 10

I have no idea what any of it means or what it is trying to tell me. What is the key I'm supposed to get for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_0.VOB at 0x002d7dc3?

Anyone out there on planet earth (don't have to limit it to earth if that helps) can explain to me what the above (to me) gibberish means? I have already downloaded libdvdread some time ago and added it so I can rip movies, but now no go.

Suddenly handbrake is not doing what handbrake always do. Having upgraded to most recent handbrake causing the problem, whereby I included in to the handbrake file this: libdvdread. Still nothing. Should I go back to last version of handbrake I was using, see if that works? I've already deleted current handbrake and reinstalled it. Still won't rip DVD movies anymore. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I was running a norton virus scan the other day and I noticed that it was scanning a bunch of movies that I did not download. I followed the path and they are located in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc I have tried to delete them, but I get a message that says, "you need permission to perform this action." I am running Windows Vista, and I tried to turn to disable the User Account Control, and it still didn't make a difference. I've run ad-aware and norton, and none of them recognized any seriously threating risks on my computer. However, spyware doctor found 189 infections/ One of them is high risk and came from the website http://serials.ws The problem is that I don't want to pay for spyware doctor. Any suggestions on how I can delete these movies and make sure that my computer is safe? Also, just curious: why would someone put movies on my computer? Do they just find it amusing? I'm also a bit worried about how safe any credit card info I've entered online is. Any thoughts? Thanks! One last thing: I have google searched this, and a lot of websites suggest accessing the hosts file. I can't do that in my computer, because it says that it does not exist.Mod Edit: Link disabled, to preclude possible infection. ~tg

When you download music or movies it sue UDP protocol only? Or when you download any datas like pdf file is use TCP/IP protocol?

A:When you download music or movies it sue UDP or TCP/IP protocol?

That is correct, TCP requires each packet sent to be acknowledged before the next packet is sent to the client. TCP is used for data and webpages so that information can be recovered if packets are lost. To speed the process up the host will send more and more packets each time to the client reducing the amount of acknowledgements needed. If one packet is dropped then the packet count sent is reduced to maintain stability. This is known as 'Windowing'.

UDP is another Transport protocol where no acknowledgement from the client is received. UDP is typically used for streaming services such as video or VoIP. This is because a packet that is resent would not be needed since the time has already passed when the packet was needed. This also reduces the bandwidth required for running a stream application since less packets are sent overall (No acknowledgments). The most noticeable applications which use UDP to transport packets are DNS requests, video and voice streaming and online multiplayer gaming.

The ports on each protocol will be different. For example TCP Port 80 (http) is not the same as UDP Port 80

A typical analogy would be:

TCP : "Tell me when you get there"

UDP: "I hope it gets there"

Hope This Helps,

You're never offline with a broadband connection unless you disable the network card (if that's how you connect) or turn off the modem or disconnect the modem from the wall.

All of this is unnecessary if you have anti-virus and firewall software installed and you avoid visiting questionable sites and opening e-mail from unknown sources.

For quite some time, I have used careful habits and Firefox to avoid the worst of the maladies I read about here. However, recently I read that IE8 is recommended over Firefox. Then when I consider Chrome, Opera, Safari..... It occurred to me that there must be one which offers the greatest protection from catastrophe. I have gotten such excellent advice at Bleeping, I know that I can count on some well considered direction. Thanks in advance.

A:Internet browsing safely? Is there a "best" browser?

From a pure browser perspective. My personal opinion is browsers by themselves are pretty equal. Then you look at the 'add-ons'. This is where you need to educate yourself, in their use and potential risks to browser security and integrity. It's not the base browsers in and of themselves you need to concern yourself with significantly. I feel that it is usually 'pilot error' that is the root cause of a 'crash'. Unsafe browsing habits and lack of situational web awareness are large contributors to bad stuff happening. This is not to say every web based attack on a machine is the users fault or ignorance. I feel that with education and web awareness much of it can be mitigated or drastically diminished. The one phrase I am not sure I understand the definition of in your post is: greatest protection from catastropheWhat do you define a catastrophe as? I purposely rather not make any assumptions here.

Okay, here we go. Computer (sony-vaio desktop, turning 4 yrs old next month): Windows XP Home SP 2, IE7 and latest version of Firefox, Norton AntiVirus 2003 (I mention my AV software in case any of your solutions may conflict with it).
My index.dat file under Content IE5 (which in turn is in the Temporary Internet Files folder) is bloated. I believe there are several Internet Explorer dat.files around besides the one mentioned. I ran ATF Cleaner, but it does not clean index.dat files. I was told NOT to run ccleaner, as it is said to be aggressive and can destroy computers. I do NOT want to do anything with the registry by the way, only clean out the index.dat files.
Since the index.dat files are protected by the systems, I can't get at them manually. I don't even know where the remaining index.dat files (ONLY for Internet Explorer) are located.
So...How do I SAFELY delete those files? I am not at all well-versed in computer lore and do not want a solution via DOS either (and I remember that XP has an equivalent of DOS but not DOS itself).
I'd be really happy if someone could help me out - the dat files eat space.

I received last week a new XPS 12 9250 with it a nice laptop/tablet. But I have one problem when playing movies for instance youtube in a browser it's dropping many frames and the movie stutters.
I updated all the drivers but still the problem exists. How can I solve this problem?

Best regards,

A:Internet movies are dropping too many frames on XPS 12 9250

That model's graphics uses the computer's memory to supplement video, so make sure nothing else is running using up cpu or memory. You Tube video is uploaded by users and is a poor test of the computer's graphics. Try something streaming from a better site like a tv network or movie site.
You should not update drivers on a new tablet or laptop. Those are customized by Dell for your model and rarely if ever need updating. Make sure those drivers you got are from Dell Downloads and Drivers and are for your exact model. If you got them from other manufacturers, rollback to the original drivers.

When I use WMF to play a song file on my PC, no problem. When I use it to play a video off the net, it stops responding altogether and I have to reboot to get it to work on my song files. I read somewhere about reverting to Version 9 and I did that, but still have the same problem. Someone recommended "Light Alloy" but I can't get that to play them either. Any advice on getting WMF to play movies off the net? Thanks!

A:WMF wont't play internet movies, then crashes

Do you have all the codecs installed? BTW no double posting.

I can view movies from the library in my CD drive on my computer but
cannot view a DVD movie I just made on my camcorder.

I can view it on my laptop, but not the desktop computer.

Is it possible to copy a DVD home movie that I just put on DVD
to another blank DVD. I need to make about 10 copies.

Can I do this by having another DVD recorder with connecting cables
to the original DVD recorder as we did with VHS tapes?

A:CD drive reads movies but not DVD home movies

If you have the cpu overclocked back it off to default to see it the problem continues.

BSOD happens randomly during normal computer use. Did not start until a month or two ago, but it was rare. Now it happens early every other day. Attached is dump file and system health report.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?
- windows 7 home premium 64 bit
- the original installed OS on the system?
- yes, original
- an OEM or full retail version?
- What is the age of system (hardware)?
- ~8 months
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
- age of OS is ~8 months, have NOT re-installed

A:BSOD playing movies/music and browsing internet

Remove BullGuard from your system.
Download, install and use Microsoft Security Essentials with windows firewall.
Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker you may need to run it 2-3 times to "fix" everything.
Run RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Finish and post back.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

Whenever I play D3 I lost the internet connection on my computer. My roommates both play Dota 2 and CS:GO but they never lose connection. I even tried getting on while they are not on. My ping is usually around 90-135 while on D3 and I still lose connection. We called Comcast, everything's good on their end. My internet speed is 10 mbps download and around 3 mbps upload. We changed the router, not the modem (we bought our own instead of using Comcast's modem), and I still have the issues of losing connection. None of them have D3 to try out and see if it runs okay on their PCs. Maybe I should have them download the game and I could try playing on theirs. Also, when I play at other people's homes who have 10mbps, I never lose connection or anything. I don't want to have to rent Comcast's modem because it is too pricey here. If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

My internet is good when im playing games or whatever, but when I try watching a movie it will load fast for like 5min and then it will buffer for like 30 sec for 5 second of the movies. My ping is like 200ms. Tried shutting down Firefox after that but my internet is still slow. The only thing that helps is when i restart my PC.

Hi guys, I've searched for this but couldn't find the solution. The problem is that after a few minutes...like 20 or so. The download on my Windows 7 stops working...Take a look at the picture.

It says connecting and the lights on the modem start blinking as if it is downloading but it doesn't. I can still browse websites but can't download even in Opera, Mozilla or IE. I've been using Spybot and KIS for 4 years now, so I don't think there is a problem of virus or malware. Please help!

A:Download stops working in Windows7, Internet Download Manager, Everywhere

Guys, I've updated KIS to 2010 and I think it is the problem as I exited the application and then started the download on IDMan. It started to work. But why KIS is doing this. Is there any settings problem with the firewall?? The problem still continues with KIS turned on.!!!!
