I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So....

Finally finished putting all the bits into my case, plugged it in and switched it on. All fans are going so I know everything ha power (Graphics, Processor and case fans). All LEDs are going yet I have no output on my monitor - it remains black.

Th onboard POST gets through the initial bits but seems to stop on 9.0

9.0 = Complete UGuru initial process. AWARD Bios takes over booting job and yet nothing seems to happen.

What should I do as my first steps to solve why it wont work??

I have built many computers but am having a little bit of a problem with some things and my new one. My new install went great. All programs installed without a hitch. Fast and furious is the way it went to get everything installed. Now, after a week or so I have started having a couple glitches. When I go to install a new program or update it the program just sits there for 4 or 5 minutes before doing anything and then finally starts to do its thing. What could be causing this.
The other issue is that I am trying to do a backup and image clone to get my new system backed up. The problem there is that the windows backup won't see my hard drives. I then tried Norton Ghost and the same thing happened. What is causing this? Thanks.

A:Several issues with a new computer build

Could be many things, but let's start with Windows Explorer. Does it show your 'other' hard drives at all? How long does it take before you can see any particular file in your 'other' hard drives ?
This will tell us if you have some basic problem like incorrect drivers. Also it is hard to diagnose without much more information. What OS have you installed, what hard drives do you actually have, I.e. how many and what sort of drives are they?

Hey guys,

For starters, I'm using an ASUS Prime X570-P and when I turned my computer on I was greeted by my BIOS. My BIOS could detect my 2 hard drives as well as my Blueray drive (which is compatible with DVDs and CDs) but it could not detect any drives to boot from. It could detect that my Blueray drive had a disc loaded and even reflected the correct amount of data on the disc, but I could not boot from it to install windows.

I did some googling and took some advice to enable Compatibility Support Mode on my BIOS. After doing this, now I'm greeted by the ASUS splash telling me to hit F2 or Del to get into BIOS config, and after that goes away, instead of going straight to my BIOS, it tells me Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key. It tells me this with our without a disc on the drive. Pressing a key with my windows disc in the drive just causes it to generate the same message again.

I tried shuffling my SATA connectors around, and even trying different combinations, having only one plugged in at a time, having them all plugged in, havving one harddrive and my disc drive, nothing changes the message.

To add insult to injury, at the ASUS splash, hitting F2 or Delete will instantaneously skip the splash (reacting to the keystroke) but wont take me to my BIOS, it just takes me to this screen again.

I've tried resetting my CMOS by jumping CLRTC and even taking the battery out for a minu... Read more

Ok well, I recently purchased parts for my computer, and I got everything installed just fine(or so I thought)...and so when I push the power button everything comes on fine: I hear the hum of the drives and see the CPU/Video card fans running fine.

However...I plugged in my monitor to both DVI and VGA, and I'm not getting a signal. The monitor works fine, I played it on my Xbox 360 via HDMI, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

But there is no image on my monitor...

It is hard to give this a proper title because I am not sure if the problems are related, cascading, or individual with each one needing a different response.

The system is a Dell Vostro 1510, 3Gb RAM, 500Gb hard drive. Wireless connection to Linksys router.
When I want to download a file, or stream something, I may get 2 or the Mb then the stream or file just stops. I use Firefox 5.0.1. When I try it in Explorer I keep getting script errors with the message asking if I want to continue to run scripts on that page. So does my daughter on her computer. I just use Firefox. My system will seem to be running perfectly, then suddenly it doesn't. I have tried opening suspected programs (Quicken is one I think) that have some sort of problem that causes them to stop responding. That cascades to anything else that is running at the time.

Having read several posts here I went ahead and ran the mini tool box as it is often suggested and the results are pasted below.

I have had this problem for almost 3 weeks and i can't get a straight answer.

Out of the blue I started having issues accessing certain websites.

I share a D Link router with my wife who has perfect access. However i get regularily: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

I find that if i connect straight up to the modem i get the odd error message but a simple refresh 3 - 10 times will eventually get the page up.

However with the router connected my wife is accessing websites perfectly on her laptop, but even with the refresh,I am having no luck. I can access gmail, BBC, on the odd day but if i start clicking links, i end up having to restart.

In other words my computer is the problem, something unconfigured itself, and i could really do with some help.

I don't really know much about routers and networking so if you can help, please bare that in mind.

Thank you.

Here's the problem. I have two computers, and my newer one can't access the internet for some strange reason. When I hook it up, the little symbol in the right hand corner says limited to no connectivity. But when I hook this older computer up, the internet works just fine, and I'm using the same exact wires and everything. This problem started a few weeks ago when a tree right behind my house got struck by lightning, and since then the internet hasn't worked. I think it's just a coincidence because the computer works still, I can play games and stuff, it's just not able to work online.

I've tried restarting it, disabling the connection and then enabling it again. And when I try to repair the connection that never works. So does anyone know what could be my problem?

ANd I don't know anything about computers and how they work so I probably won't understand computer terminology.

However the internet only came back on one computer, and not the other. Both computers have wired connection. I tried swapping out the ethernet cable on the computer with faulty connection, however that didn't help. I tried restoring my computer to factory settings, and that didn't work either.

A couple of days ago I re-formatted my computer and installed a clean copy of Windows XP. I then installed all the drivers to the motherboard, graphics card etc and it all worked fine for a couple of days, but then internet started malfunctioning. Everytime I restarted my computer it would work for a few minutes until it then prohibitted me from doing anything, although it says I'am connected to the internet and it's working fine. If I managed to get online on a game, for example Heroes of Newerth or World of Warcraft, I can stay online on that game for aslong as I wanted but I cannot go on Mozilla and browse the web or change game or anything of the sort.

The computer I'am on right now shares internet with the computer that has the problem described, and this one works just fine.

MSN said the problem to be "Network ports", but I cant seem to find out what the problem is.

I have a ZyXEL P320W if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any help.

First of all, I have a sbc dsl modem. The problem is definitely with the computer because: I am using my other computer, and it works fine with the same internet connection. However, when I connect it to my desktop computer, it doesn't work. The connection is alright, with packets coming in and going out, but when I open all three of my web browsers: internet explorer, mozilla firefox, netscape, and safari, none of them work. I am on a Sony PCV-RS310 computer and the ping comes back saying that all four packets were lost. I first thought this might have been a virus or something blocking a port, but it seems impossible that something like that could happen. I frequently use torrent programs, like bittorent and uTorrent. I first thought i might have downloaded some sort of virus, but after scanning- with databases updated on this computer, with 5 different antivirus programs, I gave up. Any idea what is happenning is appreciated. Thanks in advance. (((((((

A:Internet connected and works on other computer, but not on this one

The Router is what? Wired or Wireless? If either one who makes it? How old is it? Remember that BT traffic packets can take it's toll on a router. You'll need to get a heavy duty router otherwise you'll start to get packet loss as you're getting now.

If you're just connecting with a 4100 Modem then I would say replace that modem. So which SBC DSL Modem to you have?

A:Help!! New Computer Build for gaming, media, and internet.

it hurts me to say it, but if you wanna make the best system you're gonna have to get an AMD athlon FX-55 "clawhammer" core. Get a gigabyte board, like the GA-K8NXP-SLI (nForce4 SLI Chipset) or something else with that Nforce 4 northbridge. yeah, this will run you quite a few bucks, but if you've got 2 grand then why not? a hot scsi or 10k RPM sata drive, some name brand ram, and an ati x850 card. i wish that there was an intel option, but the 700 dollar+ FX-55 is currently the best choice for said use.

So around 4 weeks ago, I got a new router and internet. The internet is working great for everyone on every device except for my computer. For some reason, my internet is not consistent with its ping (and this is just on my computer, the internet works great with my iphone). It almost seems like for every 1 minute of good internet I have, I have 10 or so minutes where the internet just stinkss. I am posting this on one of those good minutes. The problem started after I, 1. Got a new graphics card, and 2. Changed my antivirus software from Avira to Malwarebytes. If you guys need any more info just ask .

Note: Previously posted in Network issues, and now posted here after discovering malware.

Hello folks,

I have searched and searched and have found the above problem many times but not with the same symptoms as mine.

I have been trying to fix it and may have made things worse.

This is my brother-in-laws computer. He had it at home and I think the browser was hijacked, as he installed some strange toolbar (starwon or something) and I searched it, it was malware I think, at that time he got a new computer so we just ignored it really.
Then he moved said computer to work, skype worked fine as did email through outlook, so although I had promised to try to get web working, I hadn't managed it. I had installed google chrome, but that didn't work either.

At this point, brother-in-law gets new version of office to have word 2007, and gets me to install it, in doing so, it came up with an error about a file not found on the cd (all originals with serials), I search the error, seems common, answer is to uninstall old version first, rather than attempt to update.

Of course I didn't realise that this new version doesn't have outlook on it, and so he loses all his files and now outlook express can't get his emails. It can't find the incoming server, or outgoing.

So that's were I am now. My mac works fine in his office, we are both plugged directly into wall. I can't seem to ping anything from his computer, but I'm not a tech. Just a pretendy tech.

What programs do you guys use for maintaining your computer and also please tell us security software. The reason i am asking this is because i am looking for some new programs i could use on my computer. i doing alot of cleaning up

A:What programs do you guys use to keep your computer clean and smooth running?

I'd use Win Utilities. There is both a paid and free version. The paid version offers scheduling, uninstallation, and document protection. The free version is still good for defragmentation, temp file cleanup, as well as exe protection if you wanted to, and it is also good for finding duplicates of your files.

Is it recommended to use the disc that comes with the MB or download the latest drivers beforehand from the internet to install on a USB key?
Do I have 30 days to get a Windows 7 License from the day I install the OS?

A:New Computer Build install with MB disc or get drivers from internet

Yes, you have 30 days to activate windows, take your time there`s no rush.

Depending on how old the motherboard is, there may be newer drivers at the website, to me it doesn`t really matter, you can always use the disc then upgrade the drivers manually, there aren`t that many to even worry about.

The disc that came with my Sabertooth Z170 is awesome, just check what you want to install and you`re off.

Don`t ever loose that disc, put it right back in the box when you`re done with it

Hi,

On my desktop computer, all access to the internet is blocked except for one program. (Slavanap). people can log into me there, Also, it seems my windows firewall somehow got disabled.
It did not start that way though, At first, It seemed that I could just not use windows Explorer, everytime I would open it it would crash, but using google chrome, it worked fine. then slowly that stopped working as well, and I started using Mozilla firefox that i had on the computer and it worked ok till I rebooted. now nothing works except for that one program, slavanap.

I did a windows network diagnostics and everything passed except the DNS and HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity. They all failed.
So it seems i have a DNS failure on all levels of the test. The HTTP part of th test fails on all levels as well. everything else passes
Under HTTP, HTTPS test,  I get an error 12007 "The address could not be resolved.

My laptop can access the internet, though without a problem via the same modem, so I am assuming that It is not the modem and it is not my service provider, but rather some kind of malware on the computer that changed settings and disabled my firewall. It is greyed out so it cannot be turned on. When I tried to turn it on another way it told me the firewall service was off and when it tried to turn it on it failed. It said it is controlled by group policy.  I checked group policy and I do not see anything that is disabled.

Here at work i have 10 pc's and one file server(contains company software). All pc's have access to both the internet and the file server. Everything has worked great until yesterday. One the pc's quit getting on the internet. Both firefox and ie can not find google. I was told by the user that the internet seemed to go on and off for a hour or so then nothing.

The weird thing is that via that computer i can still access all the files on the file server, run programs of the file server and ping all pc's on the network. But still no internet access on that computer only. All of the other computers have internet access and work just fine. I released and renew the ip, pinged the nic card, everything looks good. The only thing that was added to this particualr computer is firefox did an update yesterday but afterward everything workd fine?? Any suggestions??

Hey there, new to the forums. Just finished building my new computer yesterday - i installed windows 7 and all the motherboard drivers etc - everything went smoothly. I then plugged in my ethernet cable but saw that in normal mode my computer had very slow internet. I went into safe mode with networking and tried the internet there and it was its normal speed. Obviously something is booting up in normal mode that is stopping/limiting the connection. I uninstalled norton (came with the motherboard drivers) using the uninstall norton tool, i also uninstalled any other virus protection and disabled my computers firewall but to no avail - it's still real slow. Please someone help! Thanks.

I was trying to uninstall microsoft office 2007 completely but i kept getting an error message so i yahoo answered my question.
I was following the instructions of this answer. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070927235313AAKgp6Z
I got down to where I was removing the registry keys but was going step by step so I hadn't read the full paragraph.
I realised that I was deleting the wrong keys because my laptop is the 64 bit version of microsoft windows.
When I realised what I had done I tried to restore my computer but this message came up [illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion]
Which I think meant that one of the registry keys i deleted was controlling(?) that part of being able to use system restore.
I can't go on the internet anymore. I get that blue screen that says aw snap something went wrong [g. chrome]

I really need to know how to get my laptop to how it was before i decided to do this stupid dumb deleting thing.

I really need to use the computer and internet to do my assignments. I am in year 11 and in one of my most intense terms at school right now. I really don't need more stress. I've really just brought this all on myself. I should have just left it, because it wasn't doing any harm, it's just that it wouldn't work so I really had no use for microsoft office 2007. ... A:Accidently removed registry key. Nothing on Computer works including internet.

This is not a programming issue. I am going to move it to a place where it should get more visibility.

EDIT: The only way I can think to fix your issue without a complete reformat is to do a registry backup from a known good computer, and restore it via reg.exe (command line). That might restore the registry enough so that you can roll your system back to a known good restore point.

Hi there,

This is my second computer that I am having problems with. This computer seemingly has more of an issue than my other computer in that I cannot run the GMER program at all, I can't run the DDS application (it freezes my computer everytime). The only thing I can do is run the defogger.

There is some kind of worm/virus/malware that is causing my system to run inefficiently and with such poor performance as the computer just started acting up. I checked my PC usage and it was at 100% which is extrememly abnormal. Also anytime I open internet explorer, it freezes and has to be shut down and reopened, just for the same thing to happen. (Same with Chrome)

I don't know what to do since the DDS freezes everytime I try to run it, the black screen appearing to be working but never producing any logs and freezing the computer....and the GMER isn't working either. I am typing this from my other computer because the infected PC has the above mentioned browser/internet issues.

I ran antimalware bytes and it said there were no infections found, I'll include the log, also I have AVG2011 for my antivirus. It is noteworthy to say that the desktop Icons are present but do NOT work, I can't click them half the time...I'll have to use the start, computer etc. buttons to get to use the shortcuts.

Please post ANY help, it is greatly appreciated.

Hello

Since SP2 was installed on my host computer, I have been experiencing problems with my internet connection. It works fine and I can browse websites on it for several minutes and then suddenly, any address that is typed in immediately brings up the 'this page cannot be displayed' or 'Internet explorer cannot open the search page'. In Firefox, I just get an 'Untitled' page. However, the internet is fine on a client computer, which connects to the internet through the host. Everything seems to work perfectly on it. On the host, MSN Messenger appears to work if I sign in before the connection 'fails'. Both are running on XP Pro SP2, which was only just recently installed (i.e. everything worked fine before SP2). I have tried resetting winsock and I have run through the Internet Connection Sharing troubleshooter, as well as many other microsoft.com articles. Can anyone help? Would the problem lie with SP2?

A:The same internet connection doesn't work on host computer but works on clients

I'd be more inclined to look for spyware/malware on the computer in question. I can't imagine why it would run for a short time before failing if it was SP2 related.

Hi,
I have an odd situation whereby I can access http://internal.mywebsite.com from any browser, but HTTPS doesn't work on older computers (2003) when using IE. If I use Chrome from the same computer, it works fine.
The SSL certificate is from out root CA and is trusted by all clients.
The only non standard thing about the website is that it uses a NetScaler for SSL offloading so that:
Browser HTTPS ---> NetScaler SSL offloads --> HTTP back to website
The error within IE 8 is a generic "page cannot be displayed".
How can I troubleshoot this?
Thanks

So to begin I must say that I don't know much when it comes to networking, so if you could bear with me that would be great.
For the past month or so the internet connection on one computer in my household (I have 2 total) has been very inconsistent. The internet speed has decreased significantly and there are times when it does not work at all. When I run the troubleshooter I usually get the same sort of errors(not all at once); "DNS server not responding", "gateway timeout" and "no access to router of access point".

I've been with my internet company for a number a years and I haven't had any problems. I've made no recent hardware changes or significant updates. This computer is the farthest of the 2 from the router, but that has never been a problem before. If there is any other information I need to provide please let me know. And thanks in advance!

can we see an xirrus screen shot from the problem PC

whats the make and model of the wireless router and how old is it ?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Hello. I am not very techie, so here it goes:
I have 2 computers: 1 desktop and 1 laptop. I have one lonely dsl modem. I have been plugging the ethernet? (wide phone plug thing) into the laptop to do some things and the desktop for others or if the kids are playing on one, I use the other, etc.

The internet connection seems sort of flakey on the desktop. It doesn't always connect, it sometimes takes a long time to get the connection to really work.

The other primary problem with the desktop is that it doesn't always recognize a cd or cd-rom or dvd-rom when I put it in the drive. It almost always recognizes Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Indiana Jones 2, and Lego Star Wars (the complete saga). It doesn't recognize the Spiderman:friend or foe game or many of my other discs. Sometimes it recognizes it for awhile, and mid-game, it stalls and says to insert the disc which is still in the drive! (& by the way is it disk or disc?)

So, most of the time I do things with the laptop and move everything on a disc to thumb drive and then move the thumb drive to the desktop and load from there, and sometimes that works, but it sometimes doesn't because it wants it on drive letter whatever - cd-rom, and it is on another letter - thumb drive.

I would like to solve this problem, but I've been living with it so far.

So to jump topics a bit, I bought a Linksys G-router. I hooked it up and followed all the instructions but it doesn't really seem to w... Read more

I'm posting about a different computer this time. I've been helping my friends with their computers and it seems that the more I try and help the more things get (Edit) screwed up. This time, my friend wanted this 'my search' bar removed so I googled it and it took me to a forum that had instructions on how to remove the software. I followed the instructions and as soon as I had deleted that one registry entry that it said to. The computer said it was going to shut down in 1 minute. I shut it down and booted the computer back up and the internet now says that there is limited or no connectivity. This is a dell deminsion computer that has a wired connection to the linksys router. I've talked to linksys and they said to talk to Dell support. I called Dell and they told me to talk to their helpdesk support. Helpdesk costs money. I'm not paying money for a stupid search bar that blew up the internet. It isn't a driver issue, it isn't a hardware issue, it isn't anything but supposedly a software issue. I'll try to post a hijackthis log if I can get it onto that computer somehow. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Recently we had an extreme lightning storm, which fried two of our televisions. We believe it not to be a power surge, but that the lightning itself struck so close to the house that it grounded itself in the televisions that were on and fried the circuit boards.

Now we believe that none of the computers were "harmed" during this awful series of storms. However... i am left with this scenario. Bear with me, and if you have any questions to receive more information please ask and i will love to answer then, because this is a strange situation.

Computer 1 cannot connect/recognize my router. It shows no response to being plugged into the router by ethernet cable. Computer 1 however CAN connect directly to the modem via ethernet cable, and recognizes it. When plugged into the modem Computer 1's internet connection works as normal. Strangely enough, Computer 2 can connect flawlessly to both the router AND the modem. Computer 2 recognizes both the router when connected, and the modem. Why might it be that computer 1 cannot connect to our router?

FYI; -We have tested ethernet cables. Changing computer 1's ethernet cable had absolutely no effect. It still discovered the modem but not the router. A bad cable i believe to be out of the situation.
-We have a basic DSL modem which is connected directly to the line that comes into the house. From the modem, we connect the router, which allows us to connect up to 4 devices via ethernet ports. We have changed up the ... Read more

I'd try another network card for the PC.

The lightening had to have come in either through the power/electrical supply, through the phone line, or through the cable/satellite lines to have damaged the TV's and the computer or router. Obviously something has happened to the computer or the router if it suddenly doesn't work after the storm, just as with the TV's, partial failures are not at all uncommon in such situations.

So I recently started having issues with the internet on this computer, I wasn't sure and am still not what the cause is. I should be getting 15MBs down and 3MBs up. When testing the speeds on this computer I am using I get anywhere from 0.3-3MBs down and 0.3-1MB up, other times it will just fail to load the page. Since my first thought was it could be the internet I tested it on my phone and I get full speed, I also tested it with another computer connected to the network with a wireless adapter and it gets full speed. So I thought hey maybe it's my wireless adapter, so I plugged this laptop straight into the router and what do you know full speed. So I proceeded to hook up a USB Wireless adapter to this laptop and I am still getting slow speeds.

**EDIT**
I also ran a scan both in safe mode and in windows with AVG, Malwarebytes & Spybot, along with an online scan of Trend Micro and Bitdefender and none of them found anything.

Long story short, anything wireless on this computer gets slow speeds, direct connection gets me full speed.

I have been looking for an answer on Google and have yet to find anything helpful, any information you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

A:Wireless internet issues on one computer and not another.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Please post your (2) speedtest results, one wired and one wireless.

There are two internet services in my house.

There is a Dell computer running on Windows 7 that is having problems connecting to the wireless Bell internet. The speed is around 0.85 Mbps when it connects. However, when I use my Toshiba laptop (windows 8) to connect to the same wireless Bell internet, the speed is much better... around 6 Mbps.

I do not think it is a hardware problem with the Dell. When I use the Dell computer and connect it to the second wireless internet, Teksavvy, I get 16.24 Mbps (which is the normal speed).

So, this one computer is only having problems with the one internet service. Why? It needs to be using the Bell internet, so I can't just leave it on Teksavvy. I need to get it working with the Bell internet. Any insights?

A:Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.
