Nothing shows on monitor after start computer / 2 monitor Win7 desktop

Q: Nothing shows on monitor after start computer / 2 monitor Win7 desktop

My old Windows 7 desktop sounds normal on booting up but I can't see anything on the monitor. I may not have the monitor connected properly.

A couple of years ago I bought a used corporate desktop PC with Windows 7 and used it for a while. Then I bought a new laptop and I haven't used the desktop since. Now I need to get a couple of programs off the desktop. But when I turn it on nothing shows on the monitor. The computer sounds like it's booting up okay.

I am using the very same monitor that I used before when it was working. And yes, it works and I have it turned on. (I am typing on this monitor right now (with the newer computer)). This desktop has a large port for a monitor that you connect a splitter connector to and then connect the monitor to one of the two smaller jacks coming out of the splitter connector. As I recall. when I first bought the computer I connected my monitor to a monitor port on the computer which fit the monitor's cable and it didn't work. I contacted the seller who told me to connect it to one of the splits and it worked.

But for some reason now it's not working. It could be something simple. It may have something to do with the 2-monitor configuration of which I know little.

So my question is how can I proceed toward seeing what's going on on this Windows 7 desktop computer enough to retrieve several Visual Basic programs?

Preferred Solution: Nothing shows on monitor after start computer / 2 monitor Win7 desktop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Project mate soem system specs on that desktop would be handy ie what graphic hook ups does it have on the I/O panel and the monitor too.

One alternative is to take out the hard drive hook it up using a USB to (I assume it is SATA) to SATA drive gadget and view it as an external drive. If it is an IDE one the gadget will still do it. See pic.

I have tried Splashtop, RealVNC, LogMeIn, and GoToMyPC and none of them seem to replicate the remote desktop ability to extend the desktop to dual monitors at full resolution (many of them scraping only the laptop's low resolution).

Is there any other 3rd party tool? I've spend a lot of time looking and feel stuck. The only alternative is a very expensive dual head KVM switch.

The laptop is a corporate image that I can't change, even though I have access to Ultimate licenses.

A:Need dual monitor remote desktop to a Win7 Pro computer

So I think I found a viable workaround. While I couldn't use mstc /multimon with Win7 Pro I can use mstc /span. This gives me a silly desktop across both screens of 3840x1080.

I'm using 2 pieces of software to make this work more or less like mstc /multimon would.

1. SplitView - gives most of the functionality you need for free: keeps windows from appearing in the middle (many windows would appear there by default), stops windows from spanning both monitors, allows snapping the window to the top of the screen to maximize to one monitor.

2. Divvy - allows you to define a custom grid of snap areas. I went for 1 row by 4 columns. You can then assign shortcuts to these snap areas. For monitor 1 I chose win+alt+left and win+alt+right to snap to the left/right split on monitor 1. For monitor 2 I chose alt+left and alt+right to snap to the left/right split on monitor 2.

This sufficiently emulates the true multimon option without needing to spend €300 on a KVM switch.

I'm a total computer novice so I hope I'm able to convey what's going on here. Last night I was working on some research on my emachine desktop and I accidentally hit a button (I think it might have been one of the "F" keys) which made my webpages appear smaller. Now I can see my desktop picture on the top and bottom of my screen when a webpage is open, even though the icons that normally appear on the bottom of the screen are still visible, albeit over the desktop picture. Another new thing I noticed as a result of this is at the top of the screen above where the webpage ends and the desktop picture is now seen, there is the Firefox icon followed by information about what page I am currently viewing (i.e. right now it says "Tech Support Guy Forums - Post New Thread - Mozilla Firefox). While this is all really cool, I want to be able to return to viewing my webpages normally with the tools on top and the icons on bottom of each page (not in the FULL page view where these are not visible, if that makes sense).

Geez, I hope I explained this so that someone out there knows what I'm talking about. I'm pretty sure I just need to hit another key to return it to the normal mode but I don't want to start pressing random keys and create another problem.

I have the 2nd setup through a vga to hdmi cable but it just sits there black with "check signal cable."

2nd monitor is an lg2241

- multiple re-boots
- downloaded a driver from LG but don't see that it did any kind of install. Double clicking it's zip file opened it and clicking on the three files did nothing but open gibberish code.
- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.
- Clicked detect and identify
- #2 says display device on vga
- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

Why can't I extend the desktop onto my second monitor?
After Right Click on the Desktop (Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/Display)/Screen Resolution, clicking "Detect" does not detect the second monitor.
The second monitor is working, but it is just duplicating what shows on the first monitor.

I just reloaded a new copy of Windows on a new hard drive and then added the second monitor.

I had these same two monitors working on this computer before Win 7 got corrupted and I added a new hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7.

A:2nd Monitor: Can't Extend Desktop? Win7

Proberly a stupid question, but you have changed this bit to "extend displays" haven't you?

Edit, if it's not showing the 2nd display, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor cable from your PC, it may find it then.

I just upgraded to the AMD 6000 processor and got a new power supply and motherboard. After putting it all together, I turned my computer on and nothing showed up on the monitor, it just kept flashing between analog and digital in the top left corner. Everything else came on, the fans, HDD, graphics card and everything, I just couldn't get a signal. I checked my mouse and keyboard and they weren't getting any power. Is it possible the motherboard is faulty, or did I maybe miss a connection? Or could it be the processor? Is there a way of knowing what is wrong? If you need any more information about my hardware just ask.

i was watching videos last night, then the computer stuck, so i hit the restart botton. When its turning back on, i can hear the fan, but nothings shows on the monitor. i reconnect the mouse and the keyboard and they are both working.

i recalled some problems from before, my anti-virus will randomly turns off, and i have to manually turn it back on, because it does that when its updating, i didn't pay much attention to it.
also, my computer laggs from time to time, sometimes its so slow i have to wait for the letters to come out when typing.
my monitor disconnected a few times on its own as well before, it's probably because the connecting cords got loose, when i moved them around, the monitor will turn back on.
and i haven't done a virus scan for 63 days... >.<

i dont know much about computers, but i did ask a friend who is somewhat better at computers. he said it's probably a virus, but he is not sure.
i dont know most of the proper computer terms, so the above description is the best i can do.
Please give me some tips on why it's doing that, thank you very much.

PS: i dont know how to test my monitor, i have a laptop, but i don't know what else i need to do after connect the monitor to my laptop.

A:computer turns on but nothing shows on the monitor

To see if it's a monitor issue, your may plug the vga(video) cable of your monitor onto your laptop's monitor port.
For your computer, you will need to run a virus scan and update the virus definition on line, make sure that you are connected to the internet when you do this. Do Windows Update also. Have you been doing Spyware removal also? You may use Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, it's free. AVG anti-virus is also a free anti-virus software and it's very good.

Hi guys, So basically about a week ago my computer started to have some issues with not showing any respond on the monitor after i tried waking it from sleep mode. So what i did was just unplug it for 30 secs to 1 minute and it seemed everything started up fine (the Bios info was the first thing to appear and then the menu where you choose normal or a safe mode start). But a couple of days ago it it seems that the computer wont respond at all even after trying the unplugging method,It doesn't get any more beeps and the monitor doesn't respond anymore.
I tried checking weather or not the monitor was the problem by connecting another working one but the problem still persist. I tried reseating the RAM as well to see weather that fixed the problem but still no luck.I also left it unplugged for the entire night to see if that worked but nothing. At this point i don't know if the power supply is the problem or something else im not aware of.Im pretty green in this area so any help would mean alot.

A:Computer Turns On but Nothing Shows up on Monitor?

if you don't see any lights or hear the hard drive and fans spin up it is likely the power supply. You can test it by unplugging from the motherboard and jumping the green wire to the black, plug in to wall outlet, turn on switch at back if it has one. fan in power supply should spin. this test does nothing to check output voltages so just because the fan spins it could still be a faulty power supply. If the fan does not spin you know it is toast.

EG: if i press email button on keyboard when i put TV on again outlook will be sitting there on my monitor.

turning my amp off also works.

i have tried CLONING displays but still same thing??

Good evening everyone! Why are my Acer's brand LCD monitor showing distorted horizontal lines after a few minutes I am using my computer? This issue happened since last 15/5/2015. For your information, there are no tear on the monitor cables. Besides that, my graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce G210) driver was updated with the latest. I had tried removing and reinserting the monitor cables but still showing the same issue. I had also do the same with my graphic card and clean the dust but still cannot solve the issue. In order to make you people understand better my issue, I will uploading the captured video of my monitor screen.

A:LCD monitor shows distorted lines when I using my computer. :cry

Are the fans on graphics card working? You should be able to use MSI Afterburner to see but best to just stick your finger in the fans!

Can you test with another monitor, maybe even your TV should work.

Hello guys...

So I start up my computer, and everything sounds normal. The fans turn on, the lights, etc. However, my monitor does not receive any signal whatsoever, and acts as if it's not connected to anything. Plus, the computer does not beep like it normally does.

I switched the video card and PSU from this working computer into it, but to no avail.

Is my motherboard screwed? My CPU?

Please help! Thanks.

Please post your system specs, To include Make and model System if Big Box, or same info for the following if custom or home built, Mother Board (including Revision number), Processor (Exact Model Number), Ram, Video Card, Hdd(s), Optical Drive(s), Original Power Supply Manufacturer Model, Wattage and Amperage on the +12V Rails, OS, and any other peripherals installed on the motherboard.

I recently switched monitors with my brother, he finally moved his ginormous monitor out of the house. So now I have a dinky 20 inch, any who yesterday when he was over visiting he went into war3 which has had its resolution set to 1600x1200 (from the old monitor) when my new monitor only goes to 1680x1050. So the screen flipped out and 2 hours later of rebooting and aimless clicking it still wasn't displaying properly. Very seldom would it show anything, its just a black screen, today i messed with it for 20 minutes and saw nothing at all.I tried hooking up an ancient screen from 10 years ago, same results, anyone have any ideas? I bet if I knew how to blindly get into safe mode It would work. When I initially put in the new monitor I set the res to its proper size on the desktop and in world of warcraft(not war3).

Heres the wopper, now when I start it up hoping it will magically fix itself, it makes erent erent noise on boot, and judging from my interface screen on my keyboard its not getting into windows. Because the little screen on my keyboard will light up when windows is loaded. I believe this is due to the 2 hours of my brother trying to get i to work. So I dont even know if getting into safe mode will help.

A:Old resolution setting on a game crashed my computer, and new monitor shows nothing

I'd shut down and reseat the video card, all the monitor swapping may have caused it to become unseated.

After doing that, are you getting anything to display on screen at all (like the POST). If so, you should be about fixed. Just before Windows begins to load start tapping F8, then you'll get the boot menu where most people then go into Safe Mode. Do not go into safe mode, choose VGA mode. Windows will then boot normally, just with a crap resolution. But the correct drivers and everything should be loaded, so then you just set the resolution to what you want and you are fixed.

Hello faithful people of Tech Suppport Forum

My newly bought desktop computer, Acer Aspire M3900, is now, 3 days after the purchase, bringing me BSoD's everytime I open L4D or Empire: Total War( the 2 only graphic intensive games I have). In L4d it will crash almost immediatly if I up all the video settings, on the other hand if I set all settings to low, I can play perhaps 5 minutes before artifacts start showing up on the screen, and the computer inevitably crashes with a BSoD. Which is mesmerizing to me, as the GPU is mid range, and should easily run L4D, the driver for the GPU is the newest(266), and I have also tried build 260, 197, and 190 all to no avail. Empire total war, starts with artifacts after a minute, then screen freeze and then the dreaded BSoD.

The computer also crashes with BSoD when I click the perfomance tab in my nvidia control panel, and. And also if I open nTune.

So any bright minds out there who can spot what the cause of this BSoD problem is?

Hi everyone! I'm having a problem with my dual monitor setup, one DVI and one with HDMI, all connected on my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 GPU. The thing is, my cpu boots up. But after the Windows Logo shows up, instead of bringing me to the log on screen, the computer shuts down.

I have the latest drivers of NVIDIA (314.22). I tried to reinstall the driver in Safe Mode but it didn't work. The problem persists. While on Safe Mode, I uninstalled the NVIDIA Driver and restarted my computer. After that, my computer brought me to the logon screen but the resolution was very low and as I logged in my password and proceeded to my desktop, the resolution is also low and my 2nd monitor is on idle.

Take note that my primary monitor is the one with the DVI.

Thanks in advance!

A:Dual Monitor Problem - Computer turns off after Windows Logo shows up

Ok, after a few tinkering, I figured out that it was a hardware problem. What I did was I disconnected the DVI and the HDMI from the graphic card, then detached the graphic card from the motherboard. After a few seconds, I placed back the graphic card and connected the DVI and HDMI and ta da!, everything worked out fine.

I am using a Toshiba laptop A105-S4104 and a desktop computer both using XP Professional with both on the same two computer network. I have identical programs on both. I would like to get the two screens together on the desktop in order that I might drag and drop data. I do not wish to replace the entire files on either computer but to combine the two as I like. I have seen this done by making the desktop monitor into a half screen then bringing the laptop screen to the other half of the desktop. Can you explain how this is done? Many thanks.

A:Combing Laptop and Desktop monitor screens on desktop monitor

Hey There! Welcome to the forum!

I believe you possible mean remote desktop (Microsoft Terminal Services Client) however i dont think you can drag files between windows.

The best way of doing it with both pcs on the network would be to open my documents and type in the address bar "\\OTHER-COMPUTER-NAME\C$" that will give you access to the c drive on the other pc depending on Firewall settings.

To find your PC name right click on my computer and click properties. Then click the computer name tab. Your computer name will be shown next to 'Full Computer Name:'

Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

A:Monitor black but turning monitor off/on flashes desktop for split second

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

What ho all,

I'm running Win 8 with two monitors, and am having the issue where the Start Screen will disappear once I click anywhere on my desktop on the other monitor.

This is frustrating and in my eyes completely removes the purpose of running Windows 8 on a multi-monitor setup.
Basically I want the Start Screen to always be up on my second screen, and always have the classic desktop up on the primary screen.

Do you know if there is a way to set this up, or if Microsoft has simply forgotten about this issue/ignored it, or if they will fix it in a future patch?

A:Dual Monitor: Permanent Start Screen on #1 and desktop on #2?

It's supposed to do that. The start screen is just like the old start menu. If you click off of it, or run an app from it, it goes away. That's the point, it doesn't get in your way. Otherwise, people would be frustrated that they couldn't figure out how to get back to their normal display.

I am one of the few people to still have one of those bulky monitors of yesteryear. I've got an broken laptop and the screen looks to be in good shape. I don't know how to go about making it work a desktop monitor or it it would even work but I'll tell you all I can ahead of time. It's a 15.4" screen from a Compaq Presario X1000. The frame to it is gone so all I have is a screen connected to the rest of it hanging by some wires. The wires it's hanging by are a flat collection of wires that seem to be laminated together or something. There are 14 wires laminated in total. There is a bare copper wire followed by three wires that are metallic red, followed by 9 metallic blure, followed by another bare copper. The red and blue seem to be painted or something as opposed to the insulation I'm used to as a residential electrician in training. When the lamination ends it is wrapped in gray nylon. This goes into the laptops screen hinge. There is more wire coming out from the gray part, wrapped in black nylon with a white plug type thing at the end. This is plugged into something labeled SPS-Inverter, It's a green board with some stuff on it. On the other end of the inverter there is white plug recepticle with a white wire and a pink wire plugged in it. This is my first real computer DIY aside from swapping out a power supply and adding ram, keep that in mind.

- Uninstalling default driver of second monitor in Device Manager then rebooting computer, then plugging out and replugging the monitor back in (so it reinstalls) because it doesn't boot up on its own.
- My Power Options is set to "High Performance" so that's not the reason why my 2nd monitor isn't booting up with my PC.
- I have tried plugging in the VGA cord of my second monitor into the mother board but it didn't come up.
General Information
- The second monitor is an HP Compaq LE1711
- The second monitor is plugged into my GPU? via a VGA cord into an HDMI to VGA Pigtail Adapter (company: ATIVA), into an HDMI port.
- The main monitor (1920x1080) is plugged into my GPU?, via a VGA cord into VGA to DVI-I Dual Link Adapter, into a DVI-I port.

Picture of what I'm seeing:

I'm pretty sure I've got some of the terminology wrong (I'm not a computer expert).

Any help is appreciated!

I just connected my new Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD TV/Monitor to my desktop computer for use as a monitor. After powering up the unit I was prompted to scan for available television channels. As I noted, however, I want to use it as a monitor instead of a TV. Since it's already hooked up to my computer, I figure it should be a relatively easy setup process, but so far I haven't been able to figure it out. I've already set up the language, time zone, DST, etc., but all I have onscreen now is a box which reads HDMI in the upper left-hand corner, and a box which reads NO SIGNAL in the center. What should I do next?

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who can tell me how to get the unit recognized as a computer monitor. Thank you very much.

Hooray! All I did was reboot and the WINDOWS screen appeared. I guess that's all there was to it.

First, I would like to thank each and every single person who has taken their time to read, and possibly reply, to my post. If you have a solution, or think you may have an idea, please feel free to let me know. I am fresh out of ideas and in need of some serious assistance.

Alright, here is my problem. My parents are currently running Windows Vista - 64x on their desktop PC. For about the last three to four days the monitor has started to act up for what appears to be without reason. When we power up the computer, everything seems to start up just fine - The keyboard, printer, speakers, etc - but the monitors themselves. I have already checked all the connections, adjusted all the power settings, and even tested out four different monitors but its all the same problem.

Now, before you suggest that the graphics card may be the problem - I would like to add one more detail. With what seems to be a totally random event, the monitor may actually "start up" normally and make it to the desktop screen. The computer runs perfectly normal and we are able to play games and surf the web for endless hours without any problems. However, when it comes time to shut the computer down again - the monitor appears to go into hibernation during shut-down and the problem starts all over again.

So there you have it. I don't know what else to do...

Thank You!

What Brand and model PC?
Since you do even see the boot screen(the screen with the manufacturers logo) which displays before windows even starts to load, this is going to be a hardware rather then software problem.

Good morning all,

I wanted to post a topic and get some advice from friends regarding the use of a Gaming Monitor or a TV screen. As always, bigger is better right? I am interested in purchasing around a 50" newer model screen, but I would like to know what everyone's opinion would be regarding a curved TV for more immersion or just a flat, slim panel. I have a Geforce 980 Ti graphics card would that also be compatible?

Very Respectfully,

A:Computer Monitor vs TV screens for Desktop use

Personal preference.

If it's only going to be used by you always sitting in the same position in front of it, it would likely be fine. Viewing angels on most panels are very good anyway, and a curved screen reduces that angle if you/everyone isn't sitting in front of the screen.

As for gaming on a TV, it's usually not an issue, but lag can be an issue as TV panels typically don't have the response time of a gaming monitor. But you can't get a monitor of that size.

Ok, so basically, I've built this computer myself. Here are the specs:
Abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard
Q6600 Intel Quad Core
nVidia Gefore 7950 GTX2
2 HDDs (1x 1TB, 1x 500GB)
Lite-on DVD burner/reader (got problems since I bought it, but common from all Lite-on)
Gigabyte fan (forgot the name).
8GB of DDR2-1066 ram (OCZ Ripper HPC(heat pipe cooling) edition)
KDS monitor (old tube monitor)
Windows XP SP3, legit of course.
750W PSU (OCZ Stealthstream)
Now, the only problem I have encountered is that sometimes, if I start the computer, everything will start but the monitor. Pretty annoying, to say the least. Also, sometimes, if I select "restart" from the start menu in Windows XP, the monitor will not come back and say "No input". I've been thinking maybe it's my monitor (was told that it would stay black for about 5 minutes until the tube heated up and then start working) but it would still be receiving the input. Also thought it might be my power supply, not able to load everything and when the PC starts, so the video card is not activated, but I highly doubt this, I got a 750W PSU (OCZ Stealthstream), and I tested every connector for the right voltage and constant voltage, all seemed to work.

Any ideas on what I should do?

A:Solved: Monitor does not always start when I start computer.

Look at the Monitor's connector to see if there are any bent pins. If not, try a different monitor. If a different monitor works OK it's probably your monitor going bad.

Dear Forum,

I purchased an ASUS Desktop M70AD some months ago. It had Windows 8.1, which I upgraded to Windows 10. It came with a GE Force GT 640 NVIDIA card. The on-line literature said that it was supposedly to have a 650 installed, instead. At the advice of of Tech Support Guy forums, I downloaded a 280 megabyte NVIDIA 358.50 graphics driver desktop-win 10-64 bit something-or-other, which is suitable for gaming. I really don't do any gaming. The NVIDIA site says that the 640 is adequate for Windows 10.

1.) My first question is this: Should I keep the 358 or delete it? Is is supposed to replace the GT 640 or is it supplemental.
2.) Secondly, My SuperAntiSpyware is telling me that the GE Force 640 Nvidia has an invalid digital certificate. What does that mean, and how do I correct that problem? The Filename SAS named was "NVSPCAP64.DLL" Product Version/File Version I looked it up. It seems like a legitimate thing having to do with Windows, but my "Digital Certificate" is "Invalid." What gives

My next few questions involve a video monitor I got a few years ago, a Samsung SyncMaster 204B. The backlight is dimming and I'm planning to get a new, MORE POWERFUL video monitor soon, But, here's my third question:

3.) Can my GE Force 640 HANDLE that? Does the design and construction of my Asus M70AD permit me to download or install a more powerful driver, if it cannot? The Asus NVIDIA specs, show the Nvidia specs as 1600 x... Read more

Hi! This is my first time posting on this site. I tried searching for my problem but couldn't find it here. Hopefully you guys can help me.

I recently had a computer built by a friend. Its 2.8 ghz intel, 512mb ram (two 256s), windows XP. Recently, I put in an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and ever since, my monitor has been having problems.

Whenever the computer is off for 10 minutes or more, when I turn it on, the monitor stays in sleep mode. I try pushing the power button on the monitor and it goes right back to sleep. The pc is still running and booting windows (i can hear the windows startup sound). Once I hit the reset button on the pc, everything including the monitor starts up fine and the monitor seems to work fine.

The person that built my computer seems to think that the graphics card being installed and this problem occuring around the same time is a coincidence. The drivers and everything are up to date as well.

Any ideas about what could be wrong and how I could fix it? Thanks a lot

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

Hello. For the last few days now (never had this happen before), my monitor on my desktop has been flickering. When I say flickering, I mean that it flickers once quickly. The color of the flicker that I can pick up with my naked eye is just slow enough so it looks black in color. The flicker is about a half a second. This occurs very random now. It was occurring about every hour or two. Just last night is was happening about 5, 10 or even 15 minutes apart. Always just one flicker with 1/2 second in duration. Nothing happens to my programs that are running after this happens. System appears okay.

Now, during last night's flickering, the desktop area of Windows XP (everything above the taskbar) was all solid black for less than a second; at the same time the taskbar's border lines ("Start", the buttons for open applications, and the system tray) were highlighted in a wide light gray boarder with a black area inside each area. After that brief second, it all came back to normal after flickering back to normal as if the images on my screen were generating back to normal. Now today, it is just back to that super fast flicker again every hour or so.

I'll add that if I am reading a long article online and I have not changed the screen for a couple of minutes (no scrolling, mouse, or even keyboard contact), it seems to happen a little more frequent like last night.

I know it could be to a lot of things, but I am sure some of you experts are quick... Read more

I'm kind of stuck here...

First what happened: last night my computer froze so I turned it off and then back on. However, when I did, the monitor just remained in standby as if the computer was not on. Everything on the computer seems to be working ok (fans going, lights on, etc). I also don't hear any beeps during the startup.

I've been browsing a lot of forums trying to figure out what is wrong, but I'm somewhat lost. I don't know that much about computers...
It seems some of these forums say the main culprits for a problem like this are the graphics card or the motherboard? Is this true?

Since every thread always has someone asking for specs - here they are:
Intel i7 940
Asus p6t intel x58 chipset sle/crossfirex mainboard triple-channel x
800w power supply
1 TB SATA II 3.0 gb 7200rpm HD
3 x 2GB DDR3 PC3 PC1333
1 x EVGA nvdia gtx 260 896mb pci-e
windows vista home premium

What I've done so far:
I have tried unplugging it and holding down the power button in the front for about 1 minute. 90% of the time this did nothing. One time it started to boot correctly with the monitor only to freeze during the windows load up bar and 1 other time it didn't even make it that far...
I have tried using another monitor on the computer. Same problem. I have also tried using my main monitor on another computer and it works fine.

I have been running this setup for almost 2 years, and nothing has been changed recently...

I tried turning my computer on today on Christmas Day, and everything booted up fine. I was surfing the web and on my regular programs for about 30 minutes. Then all out of a sudden, it appears that my monitor is freaking out. I was seeing colors changing, green lines going up and down the screen, as if it appeared something had occurred with the monitor. I go back and forth switching VGA and DVI cables from my monitor to my compute,r with no luck. I tried restarting the computer manually a few times as well, and one time I was lucky to get back to the desktop, only to have it freeze on me and turn off. One other time it allowed me to get to the f8 f10 boot menu, but when I tried to possibly boot up in safe mode it froze again and appeared to show more freakups with the monitor.

I then took the vga cable from my monitor into my laptop, and it is working perfect. Not a problem at all so this is making me believe the computer is the problem. What could possibly affect this over night? I've never experienced anything similar to this. It's as if it is making the monitor appear that something has burned out, but in reality it is the computer that is not working correctly.

When the computer does start up, which it clearly is, my monitor is saying it does not detect the DVI / VGA. Other times, like right now, it appears as if the computer is starting up fine, but if the past 10 minutes tells me anything, it will freeze again and the computer will shut off by itself.

EDIT: I... Read more
