I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Could you include component / technology / server role being affected by each CV?  Ideally, in the matrix table so consumers could sort by it?  Similar to the way this was called out in MSXX-XXX articles (i.e., XML services, Directory Services,
ADFS, IIS, etc.)
Also, few hints on how to use filters effectively would be extremely helpful.  For instance, if I want to see patches only for "WIndows Server 2012 R2" operating system and I don't care for "WIndows Server 2012 R2 Server Core Installation"
or Adobe / .Net patches for "WIndows Server 2012 R2" platform, how do I filter them out?

Hey, I recently purchached a new SSD for my L440.  At the moment I'm having troubles to install Windows 7 SP1 with 64bit with the UEFI mode. The UEFI bios is set to UEFI only, with CSM enabled and the secure boot disabled. Of course I made sure that my USB stick has a UEFI bootloader in the right place. Everything works fine with my Deskop PC, however, I can not boot from my L440. Any suggestions ?

Hi,I have replaced CD-ROM by HDD Caddy with SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) in my Lenovo ThinkPad L440 (20ASS3GT0) as a second storage device (not one with the OS). When I'm trying to start the system, I'm getting a message "Configuration changes - restart the system." and the system reboots again and again. What is more, I can't access the BIOS any more - pressing F1 does not work. Updating to the newest version of BIOS (1.85) does not help. After removing HDD Caddy everything works fine. I have tried some of the configurations below: Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10-15 sec. and rebooted with AC Adapter connected - still got message "Configuration changes - restart the system."Removed HDD from standard SATA port and connected it using HDD Caddy - cannot boot into the system. There is no message "Configuration changes...", HDD is detected but it is not on the list with bootable devices (there is only one option to boot over the LAN).HDD Caddy connected with no storage device - boot into the system with no problem. The problem is, that I need two storage devices - one for the OS and second one (using HDD caddy) for another data. Could anyone help me to solve that issue?

I've read many posts about how to resolve issues attempting to install .net 3.5 features on Windows 8 in a corporate environment where an alternate WSUS location is specified by group policy.
On the client, you're supposed to set "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" in gpedit, which I HAVE gotten working.
However, I'd like to set my domain policy to this same setting so I needn't set it on all clients manually.  The setting isn't there under "Default Domain Policy"
Figuring it was a schema version for AD, and AD was missing Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 specific settings, I ran adprep /forestprep, /domainprep (told me there was no work to do), and /domainprep /gpprep (told me there was no work to do).
The "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting is still not available.  How do make this setting aware to AD?

Udp listening on high port
hi everyone.

I need help to find out if this is legit or not.

i got udp listening on random port over 50000. Maybe its random for me , lets just say different.
I tried to find out what triggers is and with the help of processexplorer i found out its svchost.exe and for that pid i had like 12 services and few other ports. i start stopping services to find out what is making svchost.exe listen to that port and once i killed IP Helper service the port was closed. i tried to check my version of iphlpsvc.dll file with the microsoft one and and think is legit . at laest the size for the version matches .

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2750841

mine is version : 6.1.7601.17964 with size of 556 KB (569*344 bytes)

i am on windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64bit

i got Eset Smart Security 7.0 updated.

The thing is i got strange ip's trying to send me inbound traffic to that udp port all the time. i have set my friewall to ask me for each connection that do not have a rule specified.

first question is how those strange ips (i think thats ips of home users not some microsoft ips) knows about my udp port each time when is different. i guess i somehow notify them .

how can i go deeper and find out whats going on ? if this is something legit or lets say i am a zombie of a botnet ?
any help is very appreciated.

btw i scanned my iphkosvc.dll with some scanonline virus site and found nothing.

I have had my computer running fine now for about 5 months but recently have started to encounter some serious problems with display, boot up and XP freezing and I don't have a clue what is causing them. My system specs are:

Windows XP Pro
Pentium 4 3ghz
ASUS p4p800 deluxe
Two 512mb corsair RAM
gXcube radeon 9800XT
Sound blaster live
Using the 3com network device built into the motherboard
ENERMAX 450w power supply

A couple of days ago I started to experience graphical distortions when playing some games then later the graphical distortions started to show up in the windows enviroment and started to get considerably worse. So I updated to the latest drivers for my graphics card however this did not solve anything.

At this point things really got bad and the computer turned itself off and then would not boot when I pressed the power button. The hard drive and CD/DVD player lights would run continuously but that would be the only sign of life, it wouldn't even do the basic boot up sequence.

After some boot up attempts including one where the hard drive was disconnected I was able to boot up into windows however it was considerably unstable with allot of graphical distortions and XP would completely freeze at the slightest instant.

It was also at this point that the graphic problems started to show up in the boot sequence even in the memory test screen and BIOS config menu and the computer would still fail to boot up on occasion.

I took the graphics card out and ... Read more

My desktop runs XP SP3. I recently upgraded to AVG 2011 (release 10.0.1153) and the upgrade seemed to go OK.

Whenever I boot-up and login, after a short while I get an error message from 'avgrsx.exe' saying that component 'MSVCR80.dll' is not found, followed shortly afterwards by an identical message. After that everything seems to run OK - but is it?

I have tried the AVG repair option, also a re-install, but to no avail - I still get the same messages.

Any advice please????

A:Sonar Component has encountered a problem

Have you ever had Noton installed? Did you uninstall it without using the uninstall tool to remove remnants. Try running this Norton Uninstall Tool check that you don't still have Norton installed and if so, uninstall it before running the tool.

If the problem persists then please go Here and follow the instructions to run DDS, then Copy and Paste both the logs into your next reply. You need not run HJT or GMER.

Any help or explanation on the following would be very much appreciated:

In trying to install the latest version of Nero, but I get an installation failure and nero support tell me this is because I am not able to run the installation for the ATL component which is required for the Nero 9.4.26 latest update.

I run Vista Home Premium x64 on an Acer Aspire with i7 processor and I already have MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) installed. I think that the update I need is the KB973507, but I get the message "This update is not valid for your system". Windows update does say that I am uptodate - but according to Nero the ATL component or update is missing.
From the Nero report log, Nero Customer service say: "It is important that the ATL Security update is installed on the system to solve the side by side problem".

I was able to install KB973544 ATL security update but I do get the message that the updates seem to think my processor is "AMD64 processor architecture". I can supply a Hijackthis report, but I think that this will not help in this problem(?)

I do need to install this nero update, any clarification on this issue woulod be welcomed.
Thanks.

Because it appears that only the background color is changing (the background picture itself it appears). Most likely windows is cycling through backgrounds. If you right click on your desktop (anywhere in open space) and then click personalize, you can change your background from there.

Hey everyone,
I was browsing in Mozilla and suddenly Mozilla crashed and Windows Defender (or something that looked like) popped up and started warning me about hostile files. The words Keylogger were in the virus search. I assumed this was some kind of nasty popup and closed it. I then tried to access AVGFree to scan, just in case, and this Defender told me that AVGui was infected. I tried opening the Task Manager, only to have it automatically close the second I opened it. Trying to reopen Firefox gave me the error "Proxy Server refusing Connections".

I restarted the computer to find that the internet still didn't work and all of my customization to the look of Firefox had been stripped. I went in and set Mozilla's connection back to "No Proxy", it had somehow been set to Manual for an HTTP Proxy to 127.0.0. Not sure what that means. Currently running an AVG Virus Scan. Any thoughts on what this could be or how to fix it? I'm very concerned about a key logger as I do a lot of business on the internet. Thanks very much.

Hi.
In the last few days I was searching the internet, tring to find solution to my problem - but no avail.
My problem is with the 'Windows Network Diagnostic' tool.
Every time I launch it - it came back with "Troubleshooting couln't idetify the problem". To see the real results, I need to click on "view detailed information" link to the lower left.
Even when I've no problem w/ the network ("no issues found" in the troubleshooting language) - I've got the "Troubleshooting couln't idetify the problem".
From deep research on the internet, I've found only this: Troubleshooting the Network Troubleshooting Utility / After-Sleep Connection Problems
but no answer given there.

I'll be happy if some1 can "Identify the problem" over here...

My usually fast, reliable Dell Studio XPS laptop, running Windows 7, has slowed down considerably. I recently removed a virus and it's possible the job wasn't done completely (like an idiot, I can't remember the name at the moment). Opening new browser windows, loading apps, booting-up -- they all take much longer than they should. Yet, for example, ping/bandwidth tests report nothing wrong with my internet connection. Booting up will lead to a black screen with white cursor for 30 seconds before finally getting to my desktop. Keystrokes get buffered if I'm typing quickly on a website. Everything is slooooowwwwwww.

Hello everyone,

So over the last few weeks, Maybe a month at this point now, I have been having serious issues when trying to load pages in my web browser.

I get very long load times up to 5+ minutes and most times pages just wont load, I get an error saying page not found when i only trying to connect to youtube, My email or some other site i use all the time.. Yesterday it took me ten minutes to connect to twitch.

And sometimes for some unknown reason my browser works just fine.. For a few hours anyway then it goes back to snail loading.

Now before i continue i would just like to say, This is 100% a problem with my computer, Something is set wrong or i mucked something up... I know this because my cell phone shares the same wifi as my PC and pages load at normal speeds on my phone, No issues AT ALL.

About a month back when this started i had just downloaded battlefield 1 and i was trying to improve my ping with port forwarding, I suspect i broke something well doing this but dont understand how this could be the cause.

The only things i did were open like ten or so ports in my router, Set a static IP in my network connections under the IPv4 and set the ports to allow in AVG.

I have undone all of these yet my problem remains.

I play many games online and this problem does not affect my connection or stability to any of them, I have noticed within the last few days this issue is beginning to affect steam and origin, Origin says im not logged in and cant log me in, The... Read more

I have a strange issue and am beating myself to trying to fix it.

My system:
I'm running Windows 10 Pro X64 Version 1511 on an ASUS i7 computer
System drive is an OCZ 256G SSD
Second drive is a 2TB HDD

Here is what is happening:
-After a system boot a week ago, I got an AVG error message and my mouse wasn't working and I was unable to load all metro style apps as well as "services.msc"
-I deleted the mouse drivers and reinstalled it. (that worked)
-I deleted AVG and reinstalled it. (that worked)
-Ran a full scan with both AVG and Malware bytes - All was OK.
-After another boot, I got a message saying disk errors, restart to fix drive errors
-I restarted and chkdsk ran to 43% then booted normally
-After another boot, the mouse and AVG again were not working.
-I deleted the mouse drivers and reinstalled, deleted AVG and installed Avast and ran a full Avast scan - all OK
-The above process was repeated several times.
-After the latest boot, the mouse wasn't working again (I reinstalled drivers and it now works) and Avast is not working.

My further problem solving:
-I tried a SFC (System file checker) - it failed to run
-I tried Dsim fix - it failed (http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/53926-cant-open-metro-style-windows-app.html#post710495)
- I ran CrystalDiskInfo and it didn't identify any SSD problems. I tried to check the OCZ site to see if they had any utilities that may help to problem solve but their site is down for maintenance.
-Based on advice from the a... Read more

Having some issues finding the hardware causing my problems. Maybe somebody has seen these problems before.

Turn on computer and it will sit at the bios splash screen for about 1 min. then will continue to verifying dmi for about another minute, after that it will not boot from any Hard drive, but will boot from my Windows 2000 pro installation disk. So i decide to re-install windows, format drive it copies setup files reboots, still sits at bios splash screen forever and the verifying dmi pool then wont continue w/ gui part of windows installation, it starts over w/the text portion of setting up windows installs.

I have eliminated the following hardware by swapping known good pieces,
Hard drive
Cd roms
Power supply
Memory
All thats left is video card and motherboard, so which is causing these problems and why? I suspect motherboard but dont understand why it can make it through part of the installation and then quit. I would appreciate anybodys opinion on this problem of mine.
Thanks,
Pcgamerfool.

Been trying to update quickbooks pro 2008 and when 'installation/ repair' halts because it cannot open a registry key, i've been granting permission, start over again until it finds another key it cant open, and so on.

Now the error 1402 message cant open key "hkey_local_machine\...\proxystubclsid". I can't read the full path in the error message window (condensed to \...\). How can I determine which key is the problem key or find the path? so that I can grant that key permission?

Quickbooks was most unhelpful about this and is blaming microsoft, and even if it is partially the fault of microsoft, they do not seem to be interested in publishing a fix, which I feel they could have if only we knew how to determine which registry keys the software installation needs to write to.

Problem:
About a year ago my laptop started lagging significantly at startup, everything from the mouse cursor to sound sounding very choppy, this happens for a while when windows starts, getting extremely slow... then after around 10  minutes it stabilizes..

I then noticed several other cases where my laptop "stuttered" and pulling up the system monitor I found out it was the CPU reaching 100% peaks. I list all these cases below...

I'd love to just format and reinstall windows but I don't have enough external space to backup my stuff right now nor the time to search, organize and backup my things, besides reinstalling all my software with it's custom settings would take a long time, So I'm posting this to see if someone can help me identify the issue and check if there's a solution..
Since my last windows install, I'm no longer using the Gateway factory default OS and drivers, since I wanted to change the OS from home edition to ultimate 64  bits, and i had to download most of the drivers separately from Gateway's site... So I'm not really sure if it might be a conflicting driver..

Note: Crysis 1 and 3 and the Witcher 1 run perfectly (crysis 1 at high graphic settings, crysis 3 has to run medium to low settings but that's expected of my graphics card)  I never get this issue inside those games... so that makes me guess my CPU isn't damaged, and it might be a windows configuration or driver issue...

Not much can be determined from the info given other than a driver was likely the cause. To determine which driver, we would need the full reports.http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.htmlYou can upload them now if you are curious to the cause, or you can wait until you have another crash if you have another, which I sincerely hope you do not.
Make sure not to run ccleaner or any hard disk cleaning tools after crashes since they can delete the reports we analyze to provide troubleshooting.
