Bios unable to locate HD

Q: Bios unable to locate HD

Had a power crash, since then can't boot to HD. Can boot to floppy or cd drive. Installed a controller card, didn't fix, put in new HD = no effect, new cable = no effect. Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Bios unable to locate HD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you still have the installation CD that you used to install the OS. If so I would try either doing a repair install of the OS by booting to the CD or go to the recovery console by booting to the cd and run a chkdsk /r and see if it can find and repair any bad sectors of the drive that may have been point to the DLL location.

Hi there,

May i ask if there is a problem in my system, virus infection or malware if i experience this:

Every time i start up my system i get this error pop up:

"sistray.exe - Unable To Locate" - This application has failed to start because SiSBase.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Need help, opinions...

A:sistray.exe - Unable To Locate

What's your OS.

It could be an infection, scan with Malwarebytes and / or SuperAntispyware.

Alternatively, it may just be a video driver problem.
Reinstall / update your SiS drivers.

Your first move should be to turn on Windows Update and get your system updated. You are still on SP2 which is no longer supported by Microsoft, the Windows Update will get you up to SP3. That alone may cure the problem.

Follow this guide to slipstream your copy of XP with SP3, that can then be used to run the System File Checker which will replace any missing or damaged files.

To run the system file checker Click on Start and type sfc /scannow (exactly as written here with the gap) into the search box and hit enter. Follow the prompts and insert the slipstreamed disc when requested.

I was browsing the net the other day and window popped up saying that AVG had detected a virus in C:/Documents and Settings and that a scan should be run to get rid of it. I shut down all of my programs and ran the anti-virus to search in C:/Documents and Settings. It came up empty. I then checked for updates, found one, and then restarted AVG and had it scan the whole C drive while I did some housework and showered. Coming back to the computer about an hour later I saw that AVG had "Encountered an unknown error and had to be terminated". Ok I thought, so I restarted the computer and ran AVG again and let it run while doing my homework. Again, it crashed!

Is there something wrong with my virus scan and what else can I do? I will post a HJT log asap.

Please make sure your Frozen Throne disc is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry'.

I have never gotten this error before, so I right clicked on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager. Then under DVD/CD ROM drives is has:

Next to these names there is an icon which has an exclamation point " ! ".

I right clicked on ASUS CD-S480/A5 , then properties and the device status says:

How do I stop it from giving this message?

Is there a file where I go and remove the info manually?

Thank you.

A:ypager.exe - unable to locate dll help!!!!!

Looks like you're using either WinNT or Win2000, so Msconfig is out of the question. Looks like Regedit is the only other option unless you have something like TweakUI loaded.

Click Start -> Run -> Type Regedit -> Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Open the Software key -> Scroll down to Microsoft and open it -> Windows -> Current version -> Run. Check what's starting in the Run key, look for your ypager and delete the reg value. That should sort it out hopefully.

Good luck

You may have an issue with DNS resolution of specific sites. This happens from time to time, and is normally an ISP issue. Let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD

TRACERT <URL of problem site>

<URL of problem site> is the actual URL of the site you're having issues with.

Right click in the command prompt, use Select All, and paste the results into a message here.

Hi all,

Don't know if any of you can help...

I recently downloaded something but the file didn't save to the usual place. Instead, the file has been saved to a place on my PC which I am finding impossible to locate (the downloading was successfully completed after a short while by-the-way)

According to the program I used to download the file it has been saved to...

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

(I'm not sure why the file was saved here!)

When I go to C:\Documents and Settings\ I am unable to find the 'User' folder and so cannot goto (or see) the other folders where this file has been saved. The only folder I can see in Documents and Settings is 'All Users'

If any one of you can help I would be most appriciated.

I'm guessing the folder is hidden, in explorer tried going to 'tools - folder options - View (tab) - and click show hidden files and folders'

You should be able to get there now.

Hi guys:

We have 3 computers connected to a hub forming a LAN using a DSL modem for shared internet access. One of the computers is a server and the other 2 are clients. A few weeks ago, one of the clients began receiving a recurring message: "Netscape unable to locate server xxxx" (the x's represent any website). Prior to a few weeks ago, no problem. We have attempted just about every trick in the book (reinstalling Netscape, removing and reinstalling everything in "Network", checking TCP/IP stacks, etc.). You name it, we tried it. We are using Internetshare's "All_Aboard" software. We've corresponding with them on numerous occasions, but they have no answers. We've browsed Netscape's online knowledge base at: http://help.netscape.com/ with no luck. What are 3 perplexed techies to do? As we said, only one client on this small LAN is afflicted with that dreaded error message. If someone has asolution, he/she will be given an all-expense paid vacation to the Bill Gate's estate. (just kidding) Seriously, any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try reinstalling the NIC on the client? Are you running NT/2000? If so, how is the administration set up? Was there one point in time a few weeks ago when it suddenly stopped finding the server? Where or what was the client doing? Or just out of the blue one morning when user logged in?

I have Windows XP, 60GB HDD. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, just left the room, and came back in to a rebooted computer, at a screen wanting me to insert my system disk. Well, I've tried a number of things, and all end up at the same thing. I end up with an error window saying in the menu bar "lsass.exe unable to locate component" and message box saying "this application has failed to start because" and then nothing else except the ok button. I have tried safe mode, repair console, debugging mode, setup, and even tried copying the file from the system disk to the system32 file. I've also run across something else while trying to get around this. Don't know if it's because of the many ways I've tried to get around it. Along with this lsass.exe window that pops up, it's continuosly trying to start setup. I try safe mode, and it says that "setup cannot run in safe mode", and the lsass window, and when I try to start normally, it gives me a screen saying that setup is restarting, then goes to the Windows installing screen, and it has 39 minutes left, and pops up the lsass window, and doesn't do anything more. No matter what I do, I have the lsass.exe window, and setup trying to run. Does anyone have any suggestions other than formating, to fix this problem? The one thing i see right from the start is you need to update xp to SP3. sp2 is no longer supported.as to the others it means something got corrupted somewhere and isnt able to work correctly. when you used the cleaner i truly hope a registry cleaner wasnt used as that might be why theres problems.

I've been put on a scavenger hunt this past week in an attempt to get my laptop to at least get to the login page but have come to dead end after dead end. It started off with an "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" message followed by 4 hexadecimal numbers, one of which being 0xc0000006. I was able to get past this point by popping in my XP Pro cd and running a repair. Upon rebooting my computer I received a error message that had the header "lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component" with the message "This application has failed to start because" I was able to access my harddrive and replaced the lsass.exe file with a copy off my father's working computer but it still wouldn't read. Finally I did a repair install of XP and got the same lsass.exe error message on top of the regular setup screen. Since the setup seemed to be active (the screen went through a series of slides explaining how great the new XP is!) the 39 minute setup was still going over 90 minutes after it originally started. When the lsass.exe error box is closed, the computer automatically restarts.

Please help, my computer's warranty expired only a few weeks ago so I haven't been able to get any help from Dell support and I'm really running out of options!

I have Win 95 with Netscape 4.75 when trying to download from microsofts download site a Netscape dialog box comes on screen with "Netscape is unable to locate the server download.microsoft.com Please check the server name and try again.Anyone know how I can get Netscape to locate the server? Thanks for any help offered.

A:Netscape unable to locate server

Assuming you have a good internet connection (meaning it's connecting/downloading from everywhere else ok)... there's nothing you can do about that error. It's Netscape's way of saying the page or file does not exist.

In light of the recent Microsoft "hacker" problems, I'm sure it will work if you go back and try again now. Especially if it was one of Microsoft's direct links. There was a period of 3 days where nobody was able to get anything from any of Microsoft's sites. Should be okay now...

Oh yes, one more word of advice. Microsoft doesn't like it when users go to their site with Netscape. I mean that only IE sees certain download items/buttons in their pages. Perhaps it's their way of feeling superior, or they use certain browser plugins not found in Netscape... so just use IE whenever trying to download anything from Microsoft, especially automatic updates.

Hi Folks, I have a Dell laptop, service pack 3. It is about five years old but it has been running smoothly, never had a virus or any other problem with it. I just use email and some surfing, itunes and photos, very light use. A few days ago when I tried to shut down I got a message that said something about unable to locate component "msoxlgbdru.dll and it would not shut down. I was falling alseep, so I just pushed the button to turn it off, which I have never done before. The next day when I tried to turn it on a screen came up that said "We are sorry for the inconvenience, windows did not start successfully" and then it said to start in safe mode and restore to last known good configuration. I selected safe mode, and a screen came up with a box that says "This application has failed to start because msoxlgbdru.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. It says winlogon.exe at the top. Then it just sits there and never starts in safe mode.

What can I do?

Also, I know how to do regular maintenance, disc defragmentation and virus and spyware scans, but I don't understand all of the scary lingo so if you have any advice, please talk to me like I am five LOL.

I *really* appreciate any advice! Thanks!

A:Winlogon.exe unable to locate component- help please?

I should add that I also just tried starting in safe mode using the F8 key, and when I choose "Last Good Configuration" I get the message about the msox thing again and it says reinstalling it may fix the problem.

For almost every file I have on my computer, I get an error message that often doesn't let me access the file.

For example:

It says...
rundll32.exe - Unable to Locate Component
This application failed to start because netbmrgxkmb.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

The problem is that this happens with every application I try to open. Some still work, but many do not (like Firefox, Time/date on my computer, System Restore, etc)

I have searched everywhere online for this file but cannot seem to find it.

Please help.

Much appreciated. I have Windows XP by the way

Receiving this error message at startup:
"mimboot.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because CoreDll.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

OS: WinXP SP2 Home Ed.

I have searched for the mimeboot.exe file, found it in Windows\Prefetch & MusicMatch. Searched for the missing CoreDll.dll file and only found it in MusicMatch. I don't have a clue as to what application this missing file is suppose to belong to so it can be fixed.

I did have a previous error problem prior to this one (Proxy Error), fixed it and now I get this message at startup. I also used Registery Mechanic two days ago and after doing so is when I got the Proxy Error.

A:mimboot.exe unable to locate CoreDll.dll

Hi there and welcome to TSF.
This is a file used by MusicMatch and doesn't need to run at Startup. Do you have MusicMatch installed?

I have little or no experience with Microsoft Access and I need to be dope-slapped. I had no idea how to create a database so I "played around" with the program.

I tried a couple of times to create a database and saved them both times. I was able to find both files so I developed this false sense of confidence. I selected the option to use the wizard, chose some sample category, the name of which I don't remember, added 3 categories to a blank database, changed the names of all 3 and proceded to type-in about 300 entries. May I add that I don't know how to type so this took quite some time. Periodically I would click file, save, and this is what I did before I finally closed the file. Of course, fool that I am, I have no idea what, if anything, it was saved AS. I recall that I did not choose a primary key, or whatever it's called.

I am using windows xp and am unable to find a list of last files opened. i have no idea what the file is called. I have tried search using many word possibilities to no avail. I opened the Access list of databases and I find nothing familiar. I even tried opening each one but again, I can't bring up anything familiar. Is there any way to find this file or could it be lost forever?

Sign me "inACCESSable."

A:unable to locate access file

go to Start, Find, Files or Folders and in the search field, type in *.mdb, then in the Date tab check the Find All Files modified during the previous ??? days where you specifiy how many days ago it was when you worked on this database.

You should find it then.

Make sure you are looking in all local harddrives, as well as any networked drives you may have.

I can log on to my PC as one user but when I try to switch users I get the following error message:

"CSRSS.EXE unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because basesrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I also cannot save files to a shared network location or view any other users files whilst logged on except the person who is logged on.

The only way I can switch users is to restart the pc. I had a reply from the Windows XP Magazine forum which suggested I might have a trojan as there is a trojan process for csrss.exe.

I have had help from the HJT group and no malware was found on my PC. I've checked all windows files using sfc but I still have the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe a Repair Install may be in order, you are experiencing multiple issues.

Perform a Repair Installation

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

If you have xp sp2 installed it needs to be incorporated into your xp disk or it will not offer the repair option only the clean install.

Hey all, apparently on my family laptop a program was recently removed or something, and now I get an error message stating "This application has failed to start because MFC71U.DLL was no found. Re-Installing the application may fix this program.

I've searched to find out what VCUServe is, and apparently it's The Vaio installed camera component in the laptop. How can I go about getting this message to go away? I've heard there's a run command that can locate the origin of this problem and replace it.

If not, will simply finding a download for this VCUServe stop the problem? It's just a tad bit annoying, even though we don't use the camera.

So, I uninstalled IE and now I can't boot up. I'm getting an error that it's unable to locate component iertutil.dll. I found a fix to a similar problem but I can't make it work for me.

I'm supposed to use the winxp os system install disk. Go to start, run and type in: sfc /scannow. This is supposed to check and reinstall lost or corrupt files. The problem is I can't boot up to a point where I can select run. I can't even get into safe mode

If I boot with the system disk I can get into system repair. Is there a way to do this from DOS?

A:unable to locate component iertutil.dll

I just discovered that I can hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and get to Run thru the File menu of that window. I typed in the sfc /scannow command but when I hit Run I get basically the same error - This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.

What now?

My wife's laptop keeps coming up with the following error message every restart-

title of message box: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe unable to locate component" and content of message: "This application has failed to start because CoreFoundation.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

When she asked me to look the screen had frozen, so i forced a shutdown, but on re-start the above appeared. I ran an AVG virus scan and it found and archived a virus, FakeAlert.SGG in the virusvault. The laptop appears to be a bit slower than normal according to my wife, so i'm wondering if there's a residual problem related to the error message?

My wife uses ITunes and i have deleted and reinstalled the programme in case it was the problem, but that hasn't sorted matters out!

Any advice on how to remove the startup error message and sort any residual problems gratefully received.

Many thanks.
