Bogus driver requests

Q: Bogus driver requests

The device manager is asking for a driver to be installed for a class compliant device (Casio USB MIDI controller) and gives me error 28 (driver not installed). No driver is needed for this device per Casio. This is a new developement, it worked for a year or more. I am using Pro-Tools version 11.1 which includes virtual instruments only accesible via a midi controller. I thought the Casio may have failed so I bought an M-Audio controller, also class compliant and got the same message, install a driver. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello All,
My computer keeps telling me to install a driver on a brand new M-Audio Keystation 49es Midi controller, that is advertised as a "plug and play", class compliant device. Have the same problem with a Casio CDP120, also advertised as class compliant. How do I tell the computer that these devices do not need a driver? No drivers exist for these products. I am trying to access the virtual instruments feature in Pro-Tools 11.1., which worked fine till I went to 8.1. Does anybody have a fix?
Thanks in Advance!

I am attempting to repair my brothers PC. I am not experienced in hardware at all. I have a recovery disk for his PC which is Fujutsu Siemens SCALEOT AMD Athlon64, nvidia g-force FX. Dont know the motherboard number without the PC running.
The PC started powering itself off. Even when I put a Recovery disk in. I have tried many hours till eventually it stays on long enough to load up files on PC, then after selecting new install fresh, it goes into 34mins left and a box appears. Asks me to pick Y or N to 'Software for VIA Bus master IDE controller has not passed its windows logo testing. Blah blah-it could impair system using it. I have tried accepting either Yor N and the mouse then disappears from screen. Another box appears then saying SOFTWARE for Standard dual channel pci ide controller has failed logo test also. I cant select anything without the mouse so then I have to turn off the PC via the power switch on the back. The software seems to working in the background and shows XP is moving. The minutes seem to stay at 34 though waiting for my selection.Intermittently the PCpowers itself off. How can I get some free drivers for this machine. Do I need precise information? How do I load them up? Is it through F6 when starting afresh. Could I get machine specification through exploring Recovery disk? Help! Please!

A:PC powers itself off + it requests driver update.

Sounds like an overheating problem.

Blow out any dust built up inside the chassis. Remove the chassis panels and run it. See if the system doesn't shut itself down.

When the BIOS detects the CPU or MoBo temps are too high, it cuts the power immediately.

My computer is a Gateway GT5676 running Vista 64 with an AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor.\
I recently purchased a SIIG DP SuperSpeed USB 2-Port PCIe USB3 adapter to which I have connected a Sunbeam Tech Airbox 3.5? eSATA / USB3 External Enclosure containing a SAMSUNG HD154UI SATA 1.5Tb Hard Drive.
When I start up windows, I get the following dialogs:

"Windows needs to install driver software for your PCI to PCI Bridge" "Windows needs to install driver software for your USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge" "Windows needs to install driver software for your JMicron USB Device"
If I ?cancel? each of the dialogs as they appear, the devices appear to function correctly, but the dialogs reappear each time I log on. The first dialog appears to be associated with the adapter card and appears whether or not the external enclosure is attached. The other two dialogs appear if the external enclosure is attached -- to either the USB3 adapter or a USB2 port. In either case, the external drive may or may not be recognized until it is power-cycled. Once it is recognized, the external drive functions as expected.

I believe that I have exhausted the suggestions from SIIG support and have been unable to contact Sunbeam Tech.

Any help you may provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Sazquatchwnc,
Have you got this fixed yet ?.
If not, go to Device Manager and look at all the entries and see if there are any yellow triangles along side any of the entries.

Have you updated all your drivers ?.
You may have to go to the manufacturers site and download new/updated drivers for the new hardware you have fitted.

Look to see if there are any updated chipset drivers, sound drivers, video drivers, and specifically any drivers for your new hardware.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Hi,

I've recently been having some issues with my Acer Aspire Notebook V3-571G, which I have owned for 3 months.

Occasionally on startup, I may get a BSOD, followed by a prompt of some description (before Windows starts) to return to a previous restore point. This has happened three times now, but in every case, once it has restored to the previous point, everything is fine.

I recently also had a brief freeze for about 10secs, which then resolved. I'm not sure if this is related.

I have seen a similar thread where the OP was asked to give info from the .dmp files, which I have followed and provided below:

Since this is a new computer I am assuming Norton is a free trial version? No matter, the first thing I would do is uninstall Norton using the uninstall program or using Windows uninstall. After you have done the uninstall be sure to reboot. Now, you should run the Norton removal tool to get all left over Symantic files, etc..

Hello Everyone,

I have a desktop Windows 98 Pentium II Gateway system and an HP Laser Jet Printer. Every 6 months or so, I receive a message in the "Printer Properties Box" that says, "Absolutely Bogus WPS Printer Driver" This forces me to reinstall the HP printer driver software. After doing this, everything is fine for about 6 months when the nasty comes back again and I have to reinstall the printer driver....again.

I update my anti-virus definitions regularly, and was told that this is not really a virus. What is causing this message, why is it occuring, and most important...HOW CAN I GET RID OF THIS THING without having to reinstall the HP printer driver software? Thanks for your help! Great site!

Hi,

Came home from the movies, turned on my pc, and immediately got bogus virus scan thing going, with bogus firewall pop-up, and "Microsoft Security Shield" in tray.
It closed my browser, and won't allow me to re-open.  Won't allow Malware Bytes to run, cuts off McAfee scan after about 5% of scan.
What do I do?

Currently, I have logged into another ID on the pc, and was able to open a browser, and install Malwarebytes for that user (my son).
It is running, and has detected 5 objects so far.  But will this clean up the problems on my profile?

I don't remember how to start in safe mode, and run malware bytes from there, or how to download something else, like superantispyware, while in safe mode.

I need my pc working, because I run a e-commerce business from my home, and everything is on that one PC, and none of my peripherals are compatible with my laptop, as the PC is Vista, and the Laptop is Win7 64.

It is na HP Pavilion Desktop, with Vista.  Microsoft firewall is turned off because it isn't compatible with my McAfee, which is provided by AT&T (my ISP).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh... I have tried in the past to use the restore feature, and it never works on this pc.

Hello,
I started noticing odd behavior from my computer after installing a couple of new programs (Camstudio from downloads.cnet.com, and another one that I may have gotten from elsewhere--I can't remember). It would redirect me to ezpapersolutions.com when clicking on Google links; then if I went back and clicked again, the link would work correctly. I also started having popups. Further, I had Process Explorer set as my task manager, and now it keeps resetting itself to the default Task Manager for Windows 2000. Also, my firewall started receiving these two kinds of requests every few seconds or minutes: for one it said "Someone on address 10.12.15.1 wants to send ICMP packet to your machine" (the firewall reported the 'owner' as "Tcpip Kernel Driver"), and for the other it said "'Run a DLL as an App' from your computer wants to connect to 95.211.128.4, port 80". I have attached the log from the firewall to this post.

I searched my computer and registry for ezpapersolutions.com, and somewhere I found the string "GLARM" (without quotes). In the registry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
I deleted the key:

Okay, I'm a bit confused by something and hope you guys can help me out. I downloaded a trial version of WS_ftp from ipswitch.com Well, I discovered that there are two web sites and am wondering if they're both legit, or if one is bogus and if I've downloaded something bad...

http://www.ipswitch.com
http://www.wsftp.com

Are they both legit? Now the second part of my question....

I began getting a pop up window when launching ws_ftp today (have had it for almost a week now and have been using it a lot) that's asking for my ID, password and account number for the site I'm trying to connect to. But here's the thing....

I've been hitting 'cancel' and the software works fine. AND, I'm already connected and logged in to my hosting server by the time that window pops up. It's not happened before today, and I'm wondering what's going on with this, if it's spyware, a trojan, whatever?

Thanks. I'm stumped, and a little worried, and I can't get help from the company who made the software because I don't know which site is theirs (or both?)..

I set up family safety for my 12 year old daughter, and ticked all the apps she can use freely. Every time she logs on the computer it pops up little messages telling her to request permission to use all the apps that I didn't give her access to. It's very annoying, so how do I stop it, other than the obvious but unhelpful step of letting her access everything?

A:Permission requests

Hello Andy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The apps that are checked are the ones that are blocked instead. Only the unchecked ones are allowed.

When you get a request to allow an app and either allow or block it as per the tutorial below, you and the user should not see the messages for that app anymore.

You can safely run Adobe flash player. That warning is just to let you know that this add-on was already there and asks you to confirm that you want to run it.
Its up to you if you want to decide for every site apart with flash-content if you want to run it or if you want to enable it for all sites. Its no security risk to allow it for all sites.

The network that I am currently trying to patch up is peer to peer with about 20 machines (win 98 and nt workstation). The company is not willing to switch to a server based configuration at this point. However I am trying to do as much centralized administration as possible.
I want to be able to view the connections (net watcher) to any given computer on the network from one 98 machine. It was easy to set this up on all of the 98 machines, how can I view this information on the nt boxes from the 98 machine. When I try to access the nt machines with net watcher it tells me that the computer does not accept remote requests. If this is not possible can you tell me how to view this information on all of the nt boxes from one nt box.

Thanks,

I suspect some kind of phishing bug but I am not sure what might cause this issue.
In the 17 years since I started using a computer I have gotten only a few requests to log into the server when I opened my email client. It has been more than a decade since I saw one.
In mid October this happened randomly and I ignored it. Instead I opened my properties folder and checked each tab and closed it. Then I was able to get my email.
After that I think the next day maybe a couple of days later it came back only this time it wouldn't let me get my email when I checked the properties. I ran an MSE scan and it seemed to fix the problem.
Then a week later the same thing happened. This time checking properties and doing an MSE scan had no effect. I was able to send a test email but I did not receive it. I ran an ESET online scan. This seemed to "fix" whatever was causing the log in request. Since about 28 Oct until today there was nothing then this morning it has come up again with a twist; When I check the properties folder my user name and password lines were blank!
I am running an MSE scan and ESET is on deck to run right after. I feel like I am getting a bug from somewhere that is raising a false need to log in so that my password can be gotten. IDK ?????

It's time for me to replace my old HP 200LX, and I can't seem to find a PDA that is suitable. Here are my search criteria:

I am 50 & my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
I need a decent sized display (Palm Pilot types are
too tiny).

Besides the usual PDA (calendar, contacts, etc.), I want
to be able to run some Excel spreadsheets. My spread-
sheets can be robust, so I prefer a landscape display,
not the portrait shape of Palm Pilot type PDAs). Bonus
points for syncing up with my Quicken on my PC.

Connecting & syncing with my Windows PC is a good
idea. This device should augment my PC, not replace it.
(I do use MS Outlook).

My handwriting is horrible -- I need a keyboard, but
the keyboard can be small -- I don't mind hunting &
pecking on the PDA. I also don't mind navigating with
arrow keys.

Ideally, I'd like something about the size of a paperback book. I don't want a full sized laptop -- laptops are a bit big & too expensive. Finally, it would be nice if the device had modern conveniences, like ability to play MP3 files, surf the net, play some basic games, etc. I also wouldn't exclude from consideration any PDA / cell phone combination (although I don't have/use a cell phone yet).

Thanks in advance.run some Excel spreadsheets

Is there a place that we can leave feedback or requests for the ATA product?

There are a few things i would like to see changed.

1.  Alerting
We get alerts during backup windows that the ATA cant keep up but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with CPU or RAM.  In addition, we have no users in the system at that time so i find it very hard to believe
that this is true.  I would like to set time windows where we can exclude these alerts or maybe thresholds where if it is seeing that for 5 minutes, 10 minutes etc.
2.  Email Audience
I would like to be able to say these types of emails go to this distribution list and those go to another so that we keep the number of alerts the team gets down a bit.
3.  Suspicious Activity
When we get an alert warning of suspicious activity and click the link to take a look, the first thing you have to do is answer whether it is normal or not, but we cant click the link to see the suspicious activity unless
we open the excel file in the email.  This should be adjusted.

I certainly appreciate your position. Indeed you are correct that I originally posted a request for assistance on another forum. After getting a reply from another user on that forum and nothing from the moderators for 2 days I decided to post on your site/forum...thinking that the user reply had suggested to the moderators on the other site that I was already receiving assistance.I have since received a request for my HJT log and info files from the other site so I will rely on them for assistance, My apologies for any confusion this may have caused. It was not my intent. More it was my misunderstanding of how these forums work.Thank you again and again, my apologies for duplicate postings. It was not my intent to over-tax either forum. I was simply getting impatient and after some reading thought erroneously that the user reply to my original post suggested to them that I was already receiving assistance when I was not.

Please read this carefully before posting.
The idea:
This thread is meant to collect user's request of new features to add to Windows 7, or to bring back features that were taken out since XP / Vista, and are sorely missed.
The idea is to create a list that MS might want to take a look at.
For this to have a chance, we need to keep the thread clean, and free of unnecessary comments and discussions.
So we need a set of rules.
The rules:

   Information

1. No rants, no debates or discussions, no personal comments, no reactions to other posters, no MS bashing, period!

2. Maximum of 10 lines. So make sure your post is clear and to the point.
One or two words more won't matter, but don't push your luck.

3. Posting of screenshots is allowed to clarify your point.

4. No utopian requests, keep it reasonable.

5. Double posts and posts with features already requested by others will be deleted.

6. Adding a reason why you want it is allowed, but remember the 10 line rule.

7. If a user posts a problem that can be fixed, no help allowed other than saying poster should open a thread about his problem.

   Warning

Not complying with these simple rules, will get your post removed.

   Information

1. Please examine the list to see if your request is already there.

2. Please think about what you're requesting is a good thing for less knowledgeable users.

Hi I havent posted here in quite some time.. I have a question regarding my home network..
According to Shields Up my computer is pretty much in Stealth Mode.. everything was good except it did respond to  ping requests.. should I disable this for added security,or does it really matter? I take great care to minimize the risk of malware and so forth and have good encryption on my network.. I really want to be as safe as humanly possible. Thanks in advance.

A:Should I Disable Ping Requests ?

Can you provide more details about your network setup?

Is it like the classic setup: computer - router/modem - Internet
Does your computer have a private IP address (like 192.168.*.*)?

Hello,

I have an old but useful application that is attempting to access an internet IP address that has changed. I've used netmon and found that the application doesn't make a DNS query beforehand (so I can't redirect using the hosts file). I've also verified that the IP isn't configurable for the app (it must be compiled into the binary). The params for the query are the same at the new address, it's just the IP that has changed.

How can I force the windows IP stack to redirect the requested IP to the new one?

A:Redirecting outbound IP requests

I'd guess that the route command might do it, but I've never actually tried it.

I need some help here....
I have a user who, when she opens Outlook 2000, she is set up to view her mailbox, as well as our President's. Everything is fine, except that when ANYONE sends an Appointment Request to the President, it goes directly to the assistants Inbox and the President never sees it at all. If the assistant accepts the requsts, it will THEN show up on the Presidents calendar, but never in his Inbox. I believe I've checked all the Rules on both sides, and haven't found anything there....Any ideas? Please?
And yes, we are running Exchange (5.5).
Thanks.

A:Outlook Appointment Requests

Needajob,

Check the delegates and permissions for both and the profile for the President. The admin has permission to view and accept the President's meeting requests. The President has his profile set so he doesn't even see the request just the meeting acceptance in his calendar. Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude D630 model laptop that is having problems with memory dumps (BSOD). One thing I recently discovered is that it happens pretty consistantly when removing and returning to the docking station though I don't know why. As far as troubleshooting, so far I have ran the dell diagnostics which came back clean, I also tried to reinstall fresh windows. Then put a new hard drive and reinstalled windows again. Still no luck. The laptop is still under warranty so had Dell replace the physical memory and the motherboard this still didn't help.

If its still under warranty SEND IT BACK!!! Thats what the warranty is for.

I am being frustrated with constant requests for a password. I have just started using this system and during updates the screen would go blank and I had to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to return to the desktop.

On return to the desktop the user name is displayed with the remark LOCKED and the need to enter the password.

When loading music CDs again and again the system displayed the request for a password. This happened at least once during the download sequence and at times twice for a CD with a large number of tracks.

What do I need to do to stop all this nonsense?

A:Constant password requests

Hi Scunnered

Im Not sure if im reading this wrong but what it sounds like to me is you have your screen saver set to password on resume
if this is the case then all you simply need to do is right click your desktop, personalisation, screen-saver
ether change the length of idle time to a longer one or uncheck on resume, display login screen

sorry if i am misunderstanding your problem

I have a small network (12 users) running SBS 4.5. Clients are Win2K Pro and Office2K Pro. When a users creates a new meeting request and invites some (but not all) users, the meeting request is received by ALL users.

I suspect that it is something to do with delegation, but am unsure where to start looking.

Any guidance would be welcome. Thanks

A:Meeting Requests going to all users

I found this under the help in Outlook 2002

Troubleshoot Delegate Access
This feature requires Microsoft Exchange.
Viewing another person's folders
I can't see an appointment in another person's Calendar when I'm the delegate.

When you view days in the Calendar folder, you can't see the details of an appointment, but the free/busy time shows that the time is busy. This is because, even though you have delegate access permission to the other person's Calendar folder, if the other person created an appointment and marked it private, you cannot view the appointment unless they have given you permission to do so. Have the person who granted you permission clear the Private check box on the Appointment tab in the appointment, or have the person modify your permissions so that the Delegate can see my private items check box is selected.

I receive meeting requests and responses that my delegate should get.

The person you set up as your delegate might have been deleted from the Microsoft Exchange Global Address List, or there might have been an internal rule-handling failure on the server. To reset your delegate's permissions, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Delegates tab.

The Send meeting requests and responses only to my delegates, not to me check box might not be selected. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Delegates tab.

I'm a delegate, but I can't open the other person's folders... Read more

A reader has sent along the results of his script-based analysis of the top feedback requests for Windows 10 in the Windows Technical Preview. And it won't surprise you to discover that the most popular requests are an interesting mix of common sense ideas and superficial changes.

According to Matt Goldstein, who, among other things, has been incredibly helpful with typo/grammar fixes (always appreciated), this list is comprised of all of the feedback Microsoft has received that has garnered 25 or more "likes." So it's sort of a popularity contest. And the top results (edited for legibility and removing feedback that does not represent an actual request) are:

400 or more "likes"

1. Let us move or disable the new search and/or taskview buttons. I just wrote about this in Next Steps for Windows 10, so it is of course an excellent idea. :) And over two of the top 10 requests, it has garnered a grand total of 701 votes: 415 for this one and 286 for "Option to remove search button from taskbar". FTW.

2. Add a little animation/transition when opening the Start menu. Yep, the number one request, with 453 votes. Part of me wonders at the lack of imagination here, but then I also should point out that if this is what we're really worried about right now, t... Read more

More than likely you had old network printers , or a printer, that had been configured at IPs that were no longer valid. Deleting the old printers and/or copies of printers will fix it.
When I discovered a computer on our network doing this I came across this forum, and therefore your post, which gave me the idea to check the guys printer list. Two old copies of the downstairs printer were still there, both with pending prints showing.
Checking the ports on each showed the two IP address the machine had been sending out packets for.

I know this is an old post, but.... someone else might come along later with the same problem.

Hi,

I wonder if some kind soul can help with my computer issue. When in IE, the computer runs very slow and on commercial sites, incluing ebay, I get pop ups asking for bank and ATM PIN details. I have never had either problem before.

I have run various virus checkers including McAfee, Malwarebytes, and Superantispyware, all to no avail.

As instructed, the log files from Hijack and DDS are pasted below. The DDS attach file is attached.

Thanks in advance.

My system system seems to randomly try to access my floppy drive for no apparent reason. It didn't do this when it was new. How to I disable it ?

A:How to Disable Floppy Requests

I found this maybe it'll help you

If you have a Windows PC, you will sometimes get into a situation where the computer randomly access the floppy disk drive every few minutes -- for no apparent reason! Typically, the harmless annoyance occurs because some program "thinks" it needs to read or write some data to a diskette.

In most cases, there may be a document in your recent history folder (Start >> Documents) that was once on a diskette. Here are the steps to clear the document history file Windows uses:

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Taskbar
4. In the Documents area, click Clear
5. Click OK

Other causes of the problem:

* Microsoft Office's Find Fast utility may be running and trying to index your FDD. Remove it from the Startup group, or in Control Panel, look for Find Fast and disable it from starting. Find Fast installs automatically with Office and can be a resource hog as well!
* The System Agent may be running a task; if present, click the System Agent icon in your System Tray for further information.
* A virus scanner program may be trying to check the drive. Check the setup of your virus scanning software for further information. A diskette scan at startup or shut down may be normal, but a scan between these times is typically a user-controlled option.

> Recently I am seeing these pop up's for updating.   Are they safe?> 1.  Evernote> 2.  7-Zip> 3.  Out of date driver detected> How do I know when a pop up is safe to download? They are "safe", but they are commonly called 'PUP' (Potentially Unwanted Programs). Chances are that you do NOT need any of these programs on your computer. Also, some of these 'PUPs' will ask you to "pay for a subscription".  Do not! I would access "Add/Remove Programs", click to select each program, and click "uninstall".

I am running Windows Vista and Norton 360. After a Norton scan failed to turn up anything, I tried to use Malwarebyte's anti-malware, but that too failed to find anything.
