System Event Log - Unusual Timestamp sequence

Q: System Event Log - Unusual Timestamp sequence

Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, Opteron 2280

These system events
6009 = OS Version

6005 = Event Log service has started

6013 = system uptime

are being inserted into the system even log (before system was last shutdown) apparently just above event 50037 DHCPv4 Client service is stopped.
According to the timestamps. The rogue events should appear after Directory-Services-SAM 16962. which has an earlier timestamp than event 6009 which should be the very first entry after the previous shutdown event.

Viewing events from newest to oldest

I hadn't noticed this before but it's been there since I installed and activated it last year. At first I thought it might be an infected WLAN driver, but security software (including MSRT) has not picked up anything abnormal.

Fast Startup is disabled. It made no difference when it was enabled.

What might be the cause of this behaviour?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all, new to the Forum, hope someone or some people can help. Heres the basics, I have Vista 32 Home Premium Ed installed, when I boot up, first it wont boot without the disc in a drive and secondly I found using Infranview part of the boot sequence on a hard drive thats dieing. I unplugged that drive and Vista fails to boot giving me the NTLDR boot missing or something similiar. Now, my worry is that seeing the weird boot on the dieing drive is unmovable as it can not be seen by normal means..ie its not hidden etc and doesnt show up any other way other than using infranview, how can I fix thi/these issues? I have tried fixing MBR, but problem is that during the repair process it can not find my OS (with the dieing drive disconected) so It fails to go further. When the dieing drive is connected, it finds my OS which incidently IS NOT installed to that dieing drive o-0 So..any fix other than full re-install?
This issue has been driving me crazy for sometime and I have been so busy, I havnt been able to get around to further probing around..HELP!!!

Hello, I'm new on the forum since usually I prefer look around myself to find possible solutions but this time I'm quite lost so I decided to ask directly to the community for help. The problem is with an HP HDX16-1040EL, that worked perfectly till some weeks ago when it suddenly didn't boot up anymore. Now if I try to switch it on it acts quite weird: Caps Lock and the small light above the Numpad blinks twice, then it reboots and after this they continue blinking nonstop. I already tested the RAM modules and the HDD and they worked good, I also tried to switch it on without RAM and the blinking pattern is the same, I thought it could be the Bios but the HDD had been cleaned time ago and all HP partitions has gone, so I looked for "flashing through USB" but the BIOS file on the product page is only a Windows installer, and beside this also when extracted and prepared on a USB no keyboard combination seems to have any effect... Has anyone encountered a similar situation before? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello @ZheXian, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the notebook starting, and wanted to assist you! The blink code that you provided, indicates an issue, or failure of the BIOS.  Try performing a BIOS recovery manually, by following these steps: Turn off the computer.Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter. While the computer is still off:Press and hold the  Windows key and the  B key at the same time, and then press and hold down the  Power button on the notebook for one second.Release the  Power button and the keys.By following these steps the BIOS will reach the EFI partition in order to recover the BIOS to the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive. For information on how to restore the BIOS refer to the HP support document: HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS. Please post back with the results.  Let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as  "Accept as Solution" , this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the  Thumbs up  below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

An unusual sequence of events led to the following BSOD error code: Stop 0x0000007B (0xF7A46528, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Here's what happened. I just built a new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system with Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 B60 processor. All good. I then removed the boot drive from my old (like 8 years!) Dell Dimension desktop running XP Pro and installed it on the Win7 machine using the legacy IDE connector on the Asus mb. The Win7 machine saw it fine, renamed it DRV2_VOL1 and assigned it to G: . I then copied all the files I wanted from that drive onto one of the partitions on my SATA drive on the Win7 system. Then I shut it down, removed the old Dell IDE drive and reinstalled it on the Dell system and booted that one up. BSOD with the above stop code. Of course, there was also verbiage on the screen about checking the hard drive and hard drive controllers which I can repeat if anybody thinks that would be helpful. It looks like the installation on the new system (with new motherboard and hard drive controller) modified something on the old Dell drive, rendering it unable to boot when reinstalled on the Dell. I have not found anything specific to this sequence on Microsoft's site, though this link led me to think about the hard drive controller: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082.

Is this as simple as booting the Dell with the XP installation disks and selecting rep... Read more

Hello
I am new to Microsoft Message Analyzer and just downloaded version 1.4 and installed on my Windows 10 laptop
I saved my Windows System Event log as an .evtx file to have some data to start looking at. I note the column entitled 'summary' appears to show the body of the event message. However I see many rows which state "unable to retrieve the event description"
in this column, what do I need to do to fix this issues please? could it of been the way that I saved the .evtx file in the first instance (I accepted the defaults) or do I need to install some additional files/components so the messages are displayed
correctly?

Thanks all

Hi, I recently made some upgrades to a (previously fine) PC - they were

- Installing 4GB extra RAM, of the same variety
- Reinstalling windows on a new SSD (a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB)

I previously also upgraded to Windows 10, but a bunch of blue screens and other issues later I reinstalled 7. I'm still having problems though - the current symptoms are that every so often (1-3 times a day) the computer will hang for ~1-2 minutes on the 'starting windows' screen. When it finally loads, it will often hang for further extended periods before settling down. I checked in these event log and during these periods there will be many 'atapi' errors, with Event ID 11 "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0." (I have attached a screenshot).

There will sometimes be other errors, usually relating to the timeout of certain things, but the previously mentioned error is by far the most prolific. On rare occasions there have been more serious errors - never blue screens since going back to windows 7, but once I booted to a black screen with just a mouse (was able to shut down via task manager then following a restart seemed ok).

Through some investigation, it does seem to be that the root cause of the problem is the SSD; I identified this a while ago and have tried various fixes, including:

Ensuring my Motherboard (a M4A78LT-M) SATA ports are configured in AHCI mode (they were previously IDE). This also led me to completely re-installing windows in an e... Read more

I've trawled through the forums here and found similar problems but nothing thats quite the same, or that has the answers which I think I need! I'm very PC literate although a bit foggy sometimes when it comes to hardware...

THE PROBLEM -
My system generally runs without a problem but in the past month or so it's developed a lock-up. The freeze only occurs whilst I am running a game, although it has occurred once whilst using a level editing program.
The picture freezes and the sound enters a repetitive loop, mouse and keyboard are unresponsive and the only way to break free is to manually restart the pc by holding the power switch for 5 seconds... However this problem doesn't occur with all games, the main culprits are WH40K: Dawn Of War and C&C Generals. My specification as you can see below should easily run both games, AND has done perfectly in the past.

I have checked all of the obvious drivers are up to date and re-installed them, plus I have tried both original and updated versions of the games but this hasn't helped...

I did however notice something very odd, im detecting 2 CPUs and I only have ONE installed... Also under the device manager > Computer is 'Multiprocessor PC'..... My pc only has ONE processor, how on earth do I change that and could it be part of the problem?

But it has been downloading a lot the last few months.
Something must had the chance to sneaked in.
I scanned with Kaspersky & Antimalwarebytes' Anti-Malware
(Which is a supreme program you guys should check it out).
They found some viruses, like 20 if I recall right.
But still there is something on the surface of my HD that should not be there.
Can you guys please scroll your eyes over my log, because my scans obvious missed something.
Thanks in advance.

I let Spy sweeper do a complete scan of my computer and it said it had found a potential rootkit mask found in the computer. This message comes every time I do a scan with this. After quarantining, it asked me to restart the computer and ..I couldnt't log into the computer again. A black window came and restarted again..I pressed F8 and logged into the computer in safe mode. I did a full scan with Kaspersky Antivirus and it did not find any dangerous objects.

That potential rootkit was located in C:\Documents and Settings\C2\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\[email protected]\SharingMetadata.

When i restarted from the safe mode, a blue window appeared and i was able to log in.

I dont know if its a virus or something else. This blue window appeares to my room mate too. Do you think we are hacked?

Hello everyone!

I having a strange problem with my PC. Every time I start up my computer it just simply refuses to start. Let me
explain what happens:

I press to power button and:

a) Everything begins to start, then I hear continuous "beeping" from the internal speaker. After 8-10 secs the pc
shuts down and restarts then the "beeping" again for about 10 secs. This happens about 5 times then finally the pc
starts to boot up BUT after that I get an error message that "MAIN BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR" so it starts to recover and
one more reboot then FINALLY the pc starts normally...

b) After pressing the power button nothing happens, after pressing multiple times (5-8x) the pc begins to start
then the point "a" (what I mentioned above) comes...

So every boot takes about 10 mins and its very very annoying...

What I've already tried:

- Replacing the BIOS battery with a brand new one
- Updating the BIOS
- Checking the font panel connectors on the Mobo. All of them are connected properly (Power switch, reset sw,

etc..)
- Removing USB devices didn't help.
- I replaced the power supply even with a brand new one (320W)

If anyone knows a solution please tell me because my mind is just about to blow...

I have been building systems for over 10 years and this problem has me totally perplexed. Any help from you
hardware gurus's out there would be greatly appreaciated. Here's a list of the hardware and a history of what
happened to the system I am trying fix. Original Hardware: Asus A7n8x Mobo, Athlon 2500+ CPU, 250MB
PC2100 RAM, GEForce MX 4000 video w/128MB, 80 GB W. Digital HDD, NEC DVD Writer and 54x CDROM. Last
week I added 1GB of PC2700 RAM, and a 200GB Maxtor HDD. I also replaced the CD ROM drive with DVD ROM
drive. I added components 1 at a time so it would be easier to identify any problems. Anyway I successfully
installed all HW and everything was rocognized and working fine. I partitioned the new HDD and did a quick
format on it, browsed the web a bit and checked to see if the DVD ROM drive could read a disk(it could).
At this point the system was working as it should. I then proceeded to copy my FTP site to the new
HDD(about 35GB). It copied for about 4 or 5 minutes and the system shut off. Attempts to power it back up
failed. I have another ATX case so I took the Power supply out of it and put it in the system in question. With
this P/S the HDD's would spin up for a few seconds and then quit. Obviously the 1st P/S was dead. Since I
was planning to build another system anyway I went ahead an ordered a New MoBo,CPU,256MB PC2700 RAM
and P/S. I thought that the Board or CPU or possibly the RAM could be fried. ... Read more

A:System will no longer turn on after unusual power-down

almost the same problem...

I don't have a good solution for you, but I can offer some sympathy...

I was working on a two year old machine that's been rock solid for almost two years. In the middle of a move command, the system just powered down. Any attempt to restore power results in a very quick flash of the power light, and then nothing. I initially had a couple illuminated usb cables plugged in, and they were getting power though the board, but nothing else would happen.

I haven't gotten as far as you, as my new power supply won't be here until tomorrow, but I'm dreading how to determine what the problem is if the power supply doesn't take care of it. I don't really have extra athlon 2000+'s and duplicate mobo's and ram laying around to swap in and out...

Hopefully someone more useful will chime in, and I'll learn something from this thread.

Good luck.

Please count, and tell us the number of beeps the computer produces when you try to boot up.

The power supply might be a little underpowered for your system. Make sure that your CPU fan is turning properly, and isn't clogged by dust.

From your motherboard manual:

Quote:
Q:
What do the beeps emitted during the POST mean?
A:
The following Award BIOS beep code descriptions may help you identify possible computer problems.
(For reference only.)
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

Maybe that will help troubleshoot the problem. Let us know which of the beep problems you are having.

- The HDD has a proprietory Toshiba port so I cannot plug it to an external USB drive to salvage it on a different computer.

I really want to try and salvage the information on the drive by hopefully repairing the OS so reformatting it is my last resort.

Memory exception but we need to examine the DMP files to find out why.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Last night I forgot and left my system turned on. This morning AVG7 gave me a Warning Interruption saying that Windows\System32\shell32.dll and Windows\System32\kernel.dll had changed. When I looked into the details of what had changed, the explanation was "TimeStamp, August 13, 11:28pm."

This appears to be some kind of change to my system, but I have no idea what "TimeStamp"
is related to, but more importantly, whether or not it's harmful.

Any constructive help will be greatly appreciated.

I've got like a two-months old Windows 8.1 system, and I've been trying to keep an eye on the event logs, to see if there's any error events I need to try to get fixed. Today I spotted the first one that really concerns me.

In the System events log, there's an Error type event with id number 138 from source "Ntfs (Ntfs)". Unfortunately my Windows is not English language, so I'm not really sure about what the error message would exactly be in English, but I'd translate it something like this from the original Finnish: "Events resource manager encountered a serious error in target C:\. It was shut down. The data contains the error code." I googled around, and I think I found the English version of that event, or at least something that sounds suspiciously the same, and it is this: "The transaction resource manager at C:\ encountered a fatal error and was shut down. The data contains the error code". Immediately after this error event there's a warning event 134 from the same source of "Ntfs (Ntfs)", and that event probably says this: "The transaction resource manager on volume C:\ encountered an error during recovery. The resource manager will continue recovery." These events appear to have happened during one of those many times the system is idle for a few minutes and starts doing some "maintenance" on its own in the background. There's only one (each) of these error/warnings in the log so far. I checked with a fil... Read more

Update:

What better way to spend my time than fixing unwanted computer trouble, no?

I downloaded Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and ran a Quick Test on the drive in question, it passed just fine. I'll try running an extended test later when I have more time.

Meanwhile, I also ran sfc /scannow, which I've done before on this system without issues, but what do you know, this time it came back with "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". I love how these problems can just come out of nowhere. But I like it even better that if I hadn't peeked around in the event log, I wouldn't know anything about this. Windows reminds me every day with a nice popup if I haven't yet downloaded the latest Windows Defender definitions from Windows Update, but when something like this happens, I have to go digging through event logs and command prompts to find out there's a problem. Augh.

So, I of course checked the CBS.log file that the sfc command's result referenced. And of course, it's enormous, with like a million lines of text. It'll take me a good while to make any sense of it, but even a quick glance reveals a lot of stuff like this:

Hi
I've just recently realized that copying folders to a backup hard drive resets their "created" date. Should my computer ever crash, all my backup files will state to have just been created on that certain date.

Me, being the organize-freak I am, have been looking for a solution so my backed up files can have the same time stamps as on my computer right now.

I've done a little searching, and have found that people always recommend Robocopy. Problem is, I can't understand a word of the tutorials. Is there anyone with a layman's explanation for how to run Robocopy to carry out what I want?

And also just for the heck of it, is Robocopy the only solution? Is there some sort of back up program on Windows 7 that can do that?

Thanks!

A:Timestamp/Robocopy help

Some of the other posters have had similar problems, book1245, so here are a couple of references to other posts that might offer a little bit of guidance:

There’s some help for you in this thread: "Date Modified" changes when copying... Take a look at the post from Bill2 which has, among other things, this site: How to copy or move files and folders whilst maintaining their original time date stamp. | TechHead.co.uk, (and offers advice about your Robocopy problem as well), and the post from Casca which offers this advice: In a command window, run [xcopy] with the following switches: /s/e/c/a/k/h.

See also the post from huge in this thread: "easy transfer" resets folder modified date who apparently found a way to fix his problem, with only a mild amount of pain.

This was discussed in a previous (closed) thread, but i can't see that it was resolved.
I routinely use an ftp server located on the east coast (GMT-5). I sit in Hawaii, GMT-10. Server clock and my clock are both correct.

When looking at files on the server, I see timestamps that are essentially the equivalent of GMT-15. Two of us on the phone looking at the same file on the same server see different time stamps.

This is new since i began using Vista this week. Didn't happen with my prior XP machine. Any ideas?

Hi,

I shipped a USB hard drive to a customer that has a WAV and WMA file on it. I had timestamped the WAV and WMA file with the same date/time, "Sept 20 1:00 pm". There is a reason we need the WAV and WMA file to have the exact same date/time.

The customer has Vista (64 bit), and lives in a time zone that is 3 hours ahead of me.

For the customer, the WMA file shows up "Sept 20 1:00 pm", and the WAV file shows up "Sept 20 4:00 pm".

Why did this happen, and anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it/ prevent it from happening? Troubleshooting tips? Could it be some kind of permissions issue? And basically, how can we get the files to have the same timestamp?

(Note: I simplified the problem a bit - assume that there are many files, and it's not practical for the customer to timestamp the files himself.)

Thanks, Andrew

OK, this is probably a really dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway....because I really don't know the answer.

I live on the East Coast (Newfoundland, Canada, to be exact). Now, I have a friend who lives in Los Angeles. So when I get an email from him that's timestamped, say, 2:00 PM...is that 2:00 his time, or 2:00 my time?

Like I said, I know this is probably a bit of a dumb question, but I would really appreciate some input. Thanks!

A:Email Timestamp Question

His time.

Hey guys,

I am starting a new database that tracks time spent on jobs, I was wondering if it is possible to create a log in and log out button, that would enter in the start time (log in) and end time ( log out) based on when the user clicks on the corresponding command button. If at all possible I would like it to transpose to a text box setup in a table.

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Hi, how do I add a timestamp to all of my images on my pc?

A:Adding timestamp to images

Where do you want to add it?
In printed photos?
As text appearing on the actual photo?
In the filename?

Are these photos from a digital camera? There is a timestamp embedded into these files. You can view it in Windows Explorer, by viewing 'Date Taken'.

Xnview, a free photo editor can do all these things using the embedded date. You can also batch process multiple photos.

IF you need help with the setup, just ask.
