Helix touch-screen not working anymore, properties...

Q: Helix touch-screen not working anymore, properties...

????I am facing a rather unique problem with the Thinkpad Helix (2nd Gen). The thing is, we have two Helix laptops in our family. Sometime after the upgrade to Win 10, I faced significant problems with the touchpad - the point would stop moving and even disappear and even the trackpoint would not work at this point. But the touch display was (and still is) working flawlessly, so I simply shut down Windows and started again. Since this was not the ideal scenario, I had a chat with a Lenovo executive and with some friends, and after considering all the opinions, uninstalled the drivers for the touchpad and reinstalled them (with the automatic "search for drivers online" option. Problem solved! Although I am still facing a few minor issues (which I dont want to address right now) with this machine, it is now functioning well enough for normal daily use.So, with the July 29 deadline for the free Win 10 upgrade looming, I decided it was better to upgrade and possibly regret rather than regret not installing. And, as expected, I faced the touchpad problems soon after the upgrade (which I was kinda prepared for, or so I thought). Armed with the solution which worked on the first Helix, I went about the uninstalling and reinstalling of the touchpad (and later some other) drivers. Sure enough, the touchpad problem went away. However, this has now resulted in the touch screen not responding to touch (of finger or pen). When I saw the "about" in settings, the display properties had changed to 2-Point touch screen from the 10-Point touch screen earlier (which I had seen on this device, and can still see in the properly working Helix). However, the thing thats scared me it that even 1-point touch (finger) isnt working.Since this problem occured, I have experienced issues with the keyboard as well (laptop doesnt respond to any key-press, and since touch isnt working, I have not choice except shut down via the power button). But this problem occurs one in 4 or 5 boot-ups, so its not the biggest problem right now. For the sake of details, I had booted into BIOS, but I can say with 99.99% confidence, I exited without saving any changes. From the research I have done on the problem (and from the apparent data) , the issue seems to be that there are quite a few items missing in the Human Interface Devices section. I am attaching a photos of the "about" screen and the expanded HID section of device manager from the "non-touch" Helix and the "proper-touch" Helix, both. My obivous question is how do I install (reinstall??) these things. I can confidently say I did not uninstall anything under the HID section, but even if I accidently did, shouldnt the system detect and prompt for reinstallation?? Will a factory reset repair this problem. I dont want to be stuck with the same problem with a lot of updates to be reinstalled again, hence asking the question beforehand.Should I post photos of the BIOS as well?? Hope someone can help me with a solution. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Note taking with my new Helix is unbelievably frustrating! It's Windows 8 Pro -- fully updated (Windows and Lenovo drivers and apps). I am using Microsoft OneNote 2013. The problem is regular locking up or freezing of one or the other of the touch screen or the pen / stylus. Sometimes the pen still works, but fingers on the touch screen have no effect. Other times the the touch screen works, but not the pen. I'm not 100% certain that it's limited just to OneNote, but that's where it's guaranteed to happen. I can "fix" the problem most of the time by putting the Helix into sleep mode and then waking. Other times I have to shut down and restart. During a two hour session this will happen a dozen times at least. This makes it nearly unusable. Rob

A:Touch screen and pen/stylus stop working - Helix

I experience almost the same problem. It seems that when I use OneNote with the stylus, the touch input stops working. I know that it is supposed to be disabled while using the stylus on/near the screen. What happens is that if I for instance use the stylus, switch to the windows 8 tile screen and try to use my finger nothing happens. If I touch an icon with the stylus it works, and then I can use my fingers - for a little while. Then it stops working again, and I need to use the stylus to reactivate touch input. And so on and so on. I tried to do what bloggs stated could work - to put the device in sleep mode and restart. This resulted in the windows 8-version of the bluescreen...

sorry if this is a bit outdated, so far I haven't found neither a solution, neither a reason. I take back to live an old Lenovo Helix (1st generation), reinstall W10, drivers and so on, just to discover touch is not responding (pencil works ok without a problem). Last time I used was great, like a year and half ago, I thought to be a great piece of hardware for my children to start scratch and similar.Go to Bios and neither was there touch working, so I start using it for some software testing (I am a programmer, no touch but afterall all SO freshly installed). Then, couple of days later, after several hours, I notice touch was back, GREAT, restart and still working, SLEEP, wake up later, no touch any longer, OFF and ON several times, no luck... Next day, touch works again, until it stopped working. And like this has been no-pattern on the last couple of weeks. no matter if I plug, or unplug, (power or keyboard) if I restart, if I move softly of hard, if I take OUT/IN the pencil... if it works, it works, if it do not work, do not work...  erratic, without pattern as said, I not sure what I am looking for really, if a solution, or understand what can be the reason. I am sure it is a HW thing with the screen or wire, or soemthing, because, as it works, it also does in BIOS, and no drivers changes have take place between working and non working periods. I have swith screen with anothe one (same model), and allocate the problem to the "Glass par... Read more

My touch Screen suddenly did not work anymore. I can only use the Laptop by Keyboard and mouse. Can it be that I switched it off accidently by some Keyboard combination?

How can I solve this?

A:Satellite U920 - touch screen is not working anymore

From my knowledge there is no keyboard shortcut or combination which would enabled or disable the touchscreen.

But try to calibrate the touchscreen (digitizer). You need to go to control panel (Windows key + X -> control panel). Here you will find ?Tablet PC setting?.

The first tab called Display contain some options like ?Configure the pen and touch display?. Here you should be able to start Setup and to identify the touchscreen.

In display options the ?1 internal LCD? should be chosen.
Additionally you could calibrate and reset the settings for this internal LCD.

Check if this is possible

Hi from germany, i have exacly the same problem here. I bought the identical helix system with i7 and 8gb. Sadly i have the same issues. The touchscreen started to be unresponsive and/or laggy, all over the screen. Then somehow it started to make phantomtouches on one point again and again. This phantomtouches are fighting with the stylus, trackpad and sometimes touches of my hand. Needless to say that the rate of phantomtouches is that high that you can't win the fight. I tried recalibration, driver updates, windowsupdates, did a rollback (2x) and reseted the whole Helix Thinkpad to the original delivery status. After doing the reset via windows the notebook rebooted and .... the phantomtouch was right on the exact same point as before. Even before i could register my pcname and so on. Not to mention that this error accured in tablet and notebookmode. Sometimes the phantomtouches stopped, but they just returned 5minutes later. Would love to see a solution there.

A:Re: Lenovo Helix Touch Screen Malfunctioning

I received my Helix (36984SU, i7, 8gb RAM, 256 gb HD) approximately 10 days ago.  Over the weekend I began to experience malfunctioning of the touch screen when using in tablet mode.  At first there was a single vertical section of the touch screen that was unresponsive.  Now, the problem has spread to the entire touch screen although the bottom half (when held in landscape) is basically inoperable - the screen detects "phantom" touches and very inaccurate real touches (as shown below).  Squeezing the bezel around the screen seems to cause more phantom touches to be detected.

The stylus works fine although it tends to battle with the touch screen because the touch screen is constantly detecting "phantom" touches.

Also, I just re-docked the tablet last night and found that the touch-pad mouse also gets stuck in the bottom left of the screen but is released after about 10 seconds of being docked.  This may be due to fighting with the touch screen as well.

I tried re-calibrating but I can't even hit the targets given in the re-calibration tool due to the inaccuracy.

As you can see in the image below, I drew the red arrows with the stylus and then I went back and traced the red arrows with my finger thus producing the green lines with the touch screen.

I also created a couple videos of the malfunction in action:

I have a Samsung R720.
My touch-pad has been working fine for a few years but now refuses to even turn on.

I've tried a lot of things. Formatted everything and installed a new copy of Windows 7.
Downloaded all sorts of touch-pad drivers (synaptics etc).
All kinds of things in device manager.
Deleted mouse/synaptics drivers and installed again.

I'm quite lost now. When I use the hotkey to turn on/off the touch-pad I always get this message. It always says off, and the light of my note-pad never even turns on anymore.

I've installed the synaptics driver, and the touch-pad driver from the Samsung site and still I see this.

All I want is just lay down in my bed with my notebook but I can't anymore.. could anyone help me out, please?

A:Notebook touch-pad not working anymore.

It looks like you've tried pretty much everything that's software related. So that leaves a hardware related problem (perhaps the touchpad itself is no longer working. It could require a replacement of the touchpad itself or another component in the laptop. If the touchpad cannot get repaired, you can keep an external mouse connected to the laptop as a workaround.) ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... The touchscreen stopped working suddenly on my Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc off or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started but all drivers and everything is up to date. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver and had to  show hidden divices in order to find it. I cannot enable it and when i check in the properties the following message displays: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer." I have no idea on how to connect or how it got disconnected. I come from a similar thread but did not solve my problem. I have been researching this for hours and have not found and answer. Help please!

Hi there, sorry to be a bother.Like the title says, my touch screen stopped working. I went on to my computer one afternoon and found my mouse stuck in the top left corner, fidgeting. This was what I was expiriencing. (My touch-screen still worked fine at the time, but I still couldn't do anything or control the mouse, but I could tell that it was still working and it still responded.) After a bit of time and a few restarts later, it went back to normal, but my touch-screen then stopped working. I'm used to the touch-screen working incorrectly occasionally, and much like the mouse thing, a restart or two helps. It has now been three days and my touchs-creen still does not work. I've tried many of the solutions found in these forums, but to no avail. I am running Windows 10 and have had this computer for 2+ years.  Thanks.

Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... [YouTube]Exept for my phantom touches only occure in the lower corners of the screen. But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. First of all I was running Windows 8 everything was fine. Upgraded to Windows 8.1 everything was good at first. Months after doing so my touch screen started acting up. It would only work when I position the screen a certain way. So I stopped messing with it because I thought it was a wiring problem inside the computer. I would fix it later, And then sadly I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed shortly after there was no touch screen options at all. It says there is no Pen and Touch. Today it was listed in the control panel so I started messing with it. Drivers were there all up to date. They said the Device did not migrate. It was 2 or 3 drivers listed for the touch screen and they all said the same thing. After a restart they were no longer in the device manager and no options in the control panel anymore. Please help me figure this out... Thank you.

What's the model name and complete model number of that Toshiba?
(2 sets of characters separated by a dash comprise the complete model number)

If that Toshiba wasn't tested for and doesn't provide driver support for Windows 10, you can expect some of its devices not to work properly or not work at all.
That tends to be more of a problem with laptops than it does with desktops.

I am not sure exactly at what point it happened but I recently found that the touch screen on my Elite X2 1011 was not working. The pen still functions normally. When checking the pen and touch settings I can only configure the pen settings and only "Pen support" is listed in view pen and touch settings. The touch screen used to work in both the original Windows 8.1 and then also after upgrading to Windows 10. There have been no error messages and the event logs do not seem to indicate any problems; it is as though the machine has just forgotten it is a touch screen. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling both Windows 10, and going back to Windows 8.1 to no avail. I really loved this little device but ease of use is cut rather drastically without the touch functionality. Has anyone else had a problem like this and have a solution? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Hey all, I woke up this morning and started using my computer to find that there were white spots on my computer screen that I had not previously noticed. I have had the computer for two years and haven't had any similar issues. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the pixels, as the color changes appropriately - it's just brighter. Furthermore, the bright spots on the screen heat up much more than the rest of the screen, which remains cool. I also noticed that, though this may be a separate issue, the touch screen isn't responding. Well, it was bound to happen. After 20 plus years in corporate tech support, unpacking, configuring, and shipping laptops all over the world for the first time I cracked a laptop screen. Unfortunately, this laptop screen was attached to my personal HP Envy Touch Smart 15 Notebook PC.

I have always believed that ?stuff happens?. We live by the luck of the draw. When it?s time it is time. You never know. When I picked up my laptop one morning last week on the way to an offsite there was no mistaking that muffled pop of a cracked screen. Stuff happens.

My screen still worked but no longer with touch screen functionality and I immediately jump on the web to determine the cost of and the degree of difficulty to replace the broken screen. In this site and others, I was surprised by the number of Envy owners who?s broken screen story mirrored my own and whose uploaded photos look uncomfortably familiar.

In almost every uploaded image the impact area was nearly identical, roughly 1.5 cm from the top bevel and nearly perfectly in line with the center of the touchpad.

Many generations of the Envy are designed with a Touchpad that sits in a shallow trough. That trough, the width of the Touchpad, extends out and forms a depression along the outer edge of the laptop.  When closed, the top or lid, with the fragile display, is supported by the stiffer bottom ?half? of the laptop. But a depression on the edge of the keyboard half of the la... Read more

I have a new R7-572 running on Windows 10. The touch screen stops working randomly. When it's working the driver is shown on the human interfaces list, as uo to date and working. When the screen goes off the driver disappears from the list!Live chat told me to install all the drivers shown on the list for my model, which makes sense, but when I tried the download goes into a zipped folder, with no option to install. I asked how to do this, and he gave me a phone no. Rang the number and told I'd have to pay - for a brand new Acer product, to get advice as to why Acer software won't work?!! They gave me another no to call, but they won't tell me how to download the drivers, they just want me to reinstall the os, with all the inconvenience that entails! Surely you try the easier things first? So, please can someone explain to me how I install the zipped driver downloads?

Hope that it is just drivers but what you do is to unzip the driver package into a temporary directory. When the touchscreen is working Right click on START (long press) and go to Device Manager>Human Interface Devices>HID compliant touch screen Click/touch Driver/update driver then select "Browse...on your computer, point to the temorary directory with the new driver and press NEXT. If it is a newer driver it will load it.

I have a 4 year old Ideapad S400, running Windows 8.  The touch screen is "intermittent."  If it's stopped working, I run a diagnostic from the Control Panel  "Troble Shooting" for Hardware & Devices.  I get a message which says:  "Hardware changes might not have been detected" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. I did not make any hardware changes.   When I re-boot, the problem goes away for a while and the touc screen works. I am a VERY "low tech" guy - can anyone help with this?  Thank you very much.

My touch screen for my Inspiron 3558 stopped working today and I don't know why but I want it back. I tried running diagnostics for the touch screen in the product support section but it said it was "unable to find the selected device" and suggested I go to the drivers and downloads page to install the latest drivers, but when I did, it said that "no driver updates were found" so now I have absolutely no idea what to do. Can someone please help me? Thank you!

I'd suggest powering off system, remove all peripherals -printer, external drive, etc.), AC adapter, battery, and then wait about 5 minutes. Press 'Power On' button for 15 seconds to release Status Flea Power. Replace battery, adapter and then power on system. Hopefully touch screen is working now.

My touch screen doesn't work. I've successfully performed the touch screen test. I made sure the driver for the USB Touchscreen Controller C04D is the correct one and it is in fact, working properly but still no working touchscreen.  Why?

I noticed my touch screen is not working.  So I took several steps to fix it but to no avail.  The first step was checking to see if drivers were updated but I could identify where the were located in device manager..2nd step was to load hp support assitant and now that is not helpful because it will not open when I click on ? tab
