Preferred Solution: having trouble downloading framework!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum....I'm pleading newbie.

My OS is XP Home, SP3. Yesterday as I was trying to install the software for my Toshiba Canvio portable hard drive it told me I first needed to download .NET framework. I went to the Microsoft website and I have no clue which version I need.
It seems that version 4 is the newest so should that be the obvious choice?
There's a "Web Installer" version and "Standalone Installer" version and I don't know which of those I need.
I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!!

A:Questions about downloading .NET Framework

You have to install Netframe work 2.0 through 4.0 in order. 4.0 or 4.5 install last. You may need only to download and install 2.0 or 3.0 for your program try it and see if it works for you.

Hello, I have been really choosy in downloading Microsoft Updates and most of the time I only install updates like "update for microsoft windows 7 and security updates for windows 7". Do you guys install the .Net framework 4 updates? and is it really necessary?

A:Downloading Security Updates for .NET Framework 4, necessary?

Welcome to Seven Forums Nev4rForgotten. I personally take all the .net updates. But I also make system images before I do, just in case (I make weekly images anyway). The last (5/8) updates were security updates to prevent remote code execution. I think if you have .net installed, you should take the updates. Many recommend waiting to see if there are reported issues before installing, but do not skip them entirely.

I'm trying to install a .NET frame work so that I can use a new piece of software, but my computer keeps telling me that the files can't be downloaded. I don't know how to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on a Dell Dimension 8110.

Also, I'm wondering if the problem may be that I don't have a prior version of the .NET framework installed, so that a later version (2.0 or 3.5 - I was trying to install both) can't be installed since the older version wasn't installed.

A:Having trouble installing a .NET framework

This post may have some clues and links to more info..net Framework Updates Fail To Installhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/mowg...?showentry=1149But there are specific error messages in failed .net installs that might point to more pertinent info and fixes. The above links should give you a general understanding (as far as that is possible) of the .net framework. One thing that I found bizarre was that the versions are pretty much stand alone for software from some developers. If .net 2 is required for a program, that does not always mean that .net 1.1 has to be installed first or even at all. And installing .net 3 may not install the version needed by programs made with the earlier versions. If you have an error number post it. Are you doing this via windows update? or downloading from the developer site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263.aspx

For a couple of weeks now, I've had these windows updates that wouldn't finish installing. I've been trying the recommended solutions that I could find but nothing really helps.

I've tried repairing the Microsoft .NET framework but it fails to repair for some unknown reason.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled it both manually and through windows updater, both failed.

Can you please help me?

Thank you.

A:Trouble Updating .NET framework 4

Let's try cleaning up your .NET framework...Download, unzip, and run the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool. It will remove the .NET framework from your computer so that we can reinstall it later. After running this cleanup tool, it should ask you to reboot. Please do so.Next, download and install dotnetfx35.exe. This will reinstall the .NET framework onto your computer. Note: this is a large file, and could take some time to download depending on the speed of your internet connection. After another reboot, download and install dotnetfx35setup.exe. This will update the .NET framework to version 3 SP1.If you need any more updates for the .NET framework, Windows Update should find it for you (assuming updates are set to automatically download and install).

Hi all, I hope you can help.

I've been trying to install Autodesk 3DS Max 2013 but it won't full install as it says I require .Net Framework 3.5. It triggers a download but this always fails with error code 0x800F0906 (I know this error code is linked with interrupted internet connections but my one is solid).

*I've put in my system spec at the bottom of this post*

I've been trawling the internet looking for answers and have finally thought that now is the time to ask.
This is what i've already tried and failed with;

1) Tried triggering the download & activation through - control panel > Program features > Turn Windows features on or off >.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0)

Same error code kept popping up.
2) Tried deleting all frameworks and re installing them. For this I used steps 1-4 on Elizabeth Dawkin's sky drive.
This comprises 1. Cleanup 2. 3.5 3. Dotnetfx 4. 1.1 SP1

Here's the link

Didn't fix it...
3) My latest attempt has been through admin command prompt

This never ran properly, I've popped in a screen shot of the error and the text I've inserted below.

Not sure what the above error code means...
If anyone could help or link to a site / forum where i might find an answer I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

The answer is that MS did not put all the components needed for .NET 3.5 in with Win8. You have to used the Win8 installation DVD to retrieve the missing components. IF you install from the DVD, it will work -- I know, because I did it.

I have XP SP3 Home edition, 32 bit.

I have .net framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 installed on my computer.

I keep getting .net framework 3.5 SP1 coming up in Windows Update.

I have tried installing it, I have uninstalled all previous frameworks and tried installing, I have installed it after just installing frameworks 1.1 and 2.0. Each time I have uninstalled a framework I use the msi cleanup tool from M$oft to remove any fragments. I have tried installing from the bootstrap and from a downloaded copy.

Each time, I get a message half way through installation telling me to close the .net framework 3.5 SP1 installer before continuing. I hit the ignore button each time to continue the installation.

When installation is complete I get a message saying the installation is complete, but when I next run Windows Update it tells me the installation was cancelled. According to Add/remove programs, the update was installed.

I have 2 computers, both running XP SP3 home. The exact same thing happens on both of them.

Can someone help me before I tear my remaining hair out.

Would you please send/post your the installation logs.
They would be under start-->run %temp% folder.
Just sort that folder via date/modified. You would see logs lke dd_NetFx000000.txt.
please zip all the dd_ logs and you can send it to me or post in this forum.

Also, you may post the eventviewer application logs pertaining to this error message. start--> eventvwr and then under application see anything related to MSIinstaller or the error message.

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this and if not would ask one of the mods to move it to the correct forum. I have also posted this in the web & e-mail forum as I wasn't sure which forum was the right place.

I had to do a complete new install of Microsoft XP Media Center Edition, and after doing the install download and installed all 80 updates from Microsoft.

A program I use requireds .NET Framework 2.0 howver am having problems installling it so decided to try 3.5 and again installation does not finish.

With 2.0 I get the following error

Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 -- Error 25015.Failed to install assembly 'C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Microsoft.VisualBasic.Vsa.dll' because of system error: 0x80131107

I found an article on resolving this error at Microsoft but don't understand what they are instructing. Below is their response. If anyone can help me install either of these versions or tell me what the message below means I would appreciate it.

Turns out the customer had their COMPLUS_VERSION envionrment variable set to 1.1.4322 (the 1.1 framework). This caused mscoree.dll to load the 1.1 version of framework and use that to GAC the 2.0 assemblies.
The workaround is to delete that environment variable and rerun the install.

Iv'e been haveing trouble with some programs on my computer.
I using windows xp sevice pack 3

I recently moved away and didn't use my computer for about 3-4 months and when i came back i had quite a few updates from microsoft update to perform. Everything updated fine except the "microsoft .net framwork 1.1".

Ms update would try to install the update and fail, then emmediatly after i would get the yellow shield saying there was a update for my computer and it was the same update over and over, ect, ect.

I contacted microsoft by telephone and they "corrected" the problem using the remote console and i didn't recieve the error message any more. but of course i hung up the phone and tried to use my computer and 95% of my programs wouldnt work. So I contacted microsoft again and they tried a different approach ( removing and re-installing all microsoft .net framwork versions on my computer) Everything seemed okay untill a few weeks later some of my programs are acting funny.

Title says it, I'm having trouble installing these 3 updates, keep getting the generic 643 error code I've been following this article: When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603" to try and fix it, I do not understand Method 1 so I skipped it and did method 2 twice, but did not work both times, apparently my MSI software update registration is corrupted and it links me to this article: How to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues however, I do not understand this at all (yes I know how to use the registry, but I don't know what an SID or ProductSQUID is) and I just don't understand what it means by terms like "verify software GUID path" but I do know how to check subkeys and such, I just need help translating this page for me to put into easier terms.

I don't know whether this is an XP or an IE thing...

I inhereted this laptop at my company. I have full admin rights to it, btw.

This is kind of tough to explain. When I go to download certain types of programs - not files with a direct link to the file, but something that's supposed to run an installer on my machine - I don't get a prompt to download the software and the files don't start to download.

For example, go to http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00...&param=onlyGet

If you click I Agree, it should start to download a file. Except on my machine, it won't. I've had this same problem at other sites and it's becoming a major issue - I can't DL the webconferencing software we use, either.

I've gone into IE tools/Security/Custom Level and made sure that everything in ActiveX will download (or at least prompt me), but I don't get the pop-up box to download these types of programs. I've dropped my security levels to the bare minimums, but that didn't help either.

For what it's worth, the Sidestep site listed above gives me this error message:
This is taking too long.

My computer recently crashed and I reinstalled the operating system to fix it. I tried downloading other things, such as Flash, but everytime the download box opens, it closes alomst a nano second after it opens. Then same thing happens whenever I try to download things from my email too!

Is there some way to fix this problem?

Certainly. Make sure all drivers are installed. And try getting Microsoft updates then downloading and installing other software.

The worst case scenerio would be : you had a bad stick of ram and windows installation was corrupt. However I think you will be able to solve this problem with windows updates.

The icon you see traditionally means that there is no application set to open the file in question. or that the file in question is corrupt. I am having trouble downloading anything from any website whether it's through IE, Netscape or AT&T browser. When I go to any website to download, computer acts like it's downloading, but the end result is a large solid window, except for a small white square in the upper left hand corner of this large white window. Within that small white square there's a even smaller red square in it's left hand corner. Then below that is a blue triangle. Then to the right of those two small objects, there's a small black circle. I have searched and searched the internet for any explanations, but to no aval. Even AT&T couldn't explain it either when they tried to use their remote assistance to help me with downloading their software. I have taken a picture of this weird looking icon with my cell phone. If anyone out there would give me their cell phone # I'll send the picture to you. I have dug deep into IE's internet options, but don't see anything that should be blocking me from downloading. All options are checked that allows downloading. Please help!

i went to download firefox for him

downloading its not there, the download screen just disapears
upon completion even though box isnt checked,

so i tried just to run it and it gets to point where window pops up

ive check temp folders and cleared them ive tried system restore
set all internet options to default closed all virus programs,
no firewall up and still nothing
and it does this on everything thats downloaded or rather attempted

its funny because there is no errors that come up it just acts as though
nothing happened , created a folder for downloads and assigned everything to download to it and following downloads nothings there..

im wondering if the windows defender is a culprit here but i deleted it and still nothing, but maybe still remnants in registry or something

i hope that made sense and if any1 has any ideas please help

Boxergirl I don't know HOW you are downloading Win10, but the best way to do it is using the Media Creation Tool:  Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help With this tool, you have the option of (1) creating Win10 installation media (USB or DVD), (2) downloading an ISO file, (3) updating the PC directly.  What I recommend is getting an 8GB USB stick and using option (1) to create installation media, then inserting that media and running the Upgrade. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

I'm just going to copy and paste what I have posted everywhere:

I recently installed WinXP. I had WinME before this, very few problems.
I formatted, installed WinXP, and everything is fine, except one thing. I
cannot downloading anything. for instance, I go to http://www.aim.com , and
I try to DL AOL Instant Messenger. The dialog may or may not pop up, and
when it does, I select a folder to download to, and the Time Remaining stays
blank, Transfer Rate is blank, and the Progress Bar does not move. The file
doesn't download. One of my friends told me something about having an NTFS
system instead of FAT32. I dont know if this will fix it, but if there is
something easier, I'll take that instead. I have RoadRunner Cable, I Obtain
IP and DNS addresses automatically, and am through a router. I have released
and renewed my IPs twice. I did not have this problem before WinXP came
along. I'm not a computer newbie, so I have tried all the menial things,
like Virus Scanners, Cookies, IE options, etc.. I would greatly appreciate
help please!

I also took a screenshot of what happens:

Update: I have reformatted my computer, this time with NTFS (just because). There is no change in my problem. I need all the help I can get, because I'm not going back to WinME! Please help! E-mail me also if you can, [email protected] Read more

Hi all.

I couldn't find any threads that cover my exact issue and I assume that this is the correct section of the board to post in... anyway, my issue is as follows:

IE8 won't allow me to download any programs. The download box pops up as normal and the progress bar goes to 100% but then it just closes and the download is nowhere to be seen. The search function won't find it either; the program is not on my computer.

The only bits of advice I've found online is to download Firefox (which would be great if it wasn't for the initial downloading problem) and also altering permissions in the Component Services bit (dcomcnfg), which did nothing.

I've also turned off Windows Firewall and am using Kaspersky 2011 with all permissions set so that it doesn't delete stuff automatically.

I also had an issue with uTorrent that I believe to be related: Whenever I clicked on a link to download a torrent, uTorrent wouldn't pick up on the fact that I was attempting to add a torrent to the download list. I was able to add a new torrent by inputting the URL but they would invariably fail.

(Foolishly, I had a bit of a tantrum and uninstalled uTorrent so as to install BitComet but then realised that I couldn't download that anyway. I blame quitting smoking.)

Any ideas?

You may be infected with Poweliks or Xswkit (aka Gootkit, a Poweliks clone) which typically affects the ability to browse or download files using Internet Explorer and causes PowerShell error alerts. Task Manager typically shows numerous occurrences of (COM Surrogate) dllhost.exe or dllhst3g.exe. If using a 64-bit version of Windows, then these entries will be listed as dllhost.exe *32 or dllhst3g.exe *32. These processes are known to spawn and consume a large amount of system resources. When attempting to download files in Internet Explorer you may receive the message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." or you may see a pop-up alert advising that "powershell (powershell.exe) has stopped working".If you are having trouble downloading files with Internet Explorer, follow these instructions to re-enable downloads/reset all Security zones to default.

I have tried using chrome, internet explorer! Firefox. I even tried the fire fox download manager called download them all but always the same thing. I have tried restarting my computer and internet, disabling my antivirus, going direct into my modem instead of wireless. But nothing, I'm freaking out that I may have wasted 200 bucks. I had a relative in another state who is pretty tech savy look into for me, he was able to download it on his computer with no problems and he tried to send me the zip file but I couldn't get that either

I want to install a POI loader for my GPS on my computer. When I try to select a folder where data files can be found, a message reads "There are no data files in that folder. Please specify a folder that contains at least 1 file with a (.csv) or (.gpx) extension." This is my first time ever downloading any GPS software, so I don't believe I would have any files with those extensions. What should I do?

Alright, so when I download a torrent persay, it usually downloads through limewire but i somehow messed around and messed it up. So now, it tries to download through itunes....how do I change it so that it downloads back through limewire?

A:Downloading music trouble

Two things:
First: there is no safe way to deal with P2P, and my firm is inundated with calls and computers everyday from people who don't believe me, and thought some free AV program on the web would help them.

Second: the likelihood of pirated data being passed over torrent or Limewire is about 100%, give or take, and I'll answer no question about them.

You have a simple file associations problem, but given the context, I can't condone the process, and won't be helping on this one.

I have been having trouble downloading some files from a site that I have had no problems d/ling from in the past. I download a large (6M) file on my dial-up (1hr+) which I have done before w/no probs and it gets to 99% and then stops responding, causing me to have to end task it to unlock the window. I have turned off my screensavers, both discontinued all surfing and surfed to make sure the line stayed open, and generally babysat the things (tried several different files of roughly the same size) to no end. They will sometimes actually write the .zip file, but when they do it has "unknown errors". I have tried all of their mirrors, both in the US and abroad. The site is reputable and has been reliable in the past. I can d/l small files (up to 1MB) with no probs. I am using IE 6 for my browser on my Win98 machine (see sig). Any thoughts would be great. I really want those files!

Here is my original problem in a nutshell. I am a beginner. I installed an old windows xp i had (2002). After installation i couldn't connect to the internet. I checked the drivers, and sure enough, they had a ? next to their name. I needed these drivers: ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, video controller. I have only 1 computer, so i thought i should try the ubuntu (linux) cd i had. I installed ubuntu, and now i have internet. I went to dell.com/support and tried downloading drivers. I get this "delldriverdownloadmanager.application", a plain text document, 9.3 kb in size (not the 3.3 mb size i expect). I don't think this is the correct driver application. I cannot open it in winzip. I don't know what i am doing wrong. Can i download these drivers using a linux OS? Any help would be appreciated.

A:Trouble downloading drivers

It looks like Dell is trying to make you use a download manager to download the drivers (why they do this I do not know), try looking for a direct download link, if you can't find one, you can try using a friend's computer to download the ethernet drivers.
