Preferred Solution: How to delete Avira ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Had Avira. Uninstalled it using Revo. It left behind two folders that I can't delete. Tried HJT.....won't do it. Tried to manually do it and it says "you need permission to perform this action. You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder. Tried to go into safe mode and delete them, nope. Tried to change permissions to allow full control but didn't seem to work either. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

You can try Unlocker, or Lock Hunter, or IObit Unlocker. I prefer them in the order listed. Have you tried to take ownership?

My anti-virus Avira has found 16 trojans and it says that they are malware - but Avira can't delete them! The trojans are named TR/Vilsel.utk and they are in the D:\System Volume. Avira moves them to the quarantine when it finds them, but after I delete them, restart the computer, and run the scan again, they are all back!

Could someone please help me get this nasty malware off my computer? I've also tried Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Spyware to remove them, but those programs didn't even find the malware.

I recently picked up some viruses, rouge software trojan ones and I have managed to get rid of almost all of them by running rkill then malwarebytes, super antispyware and avira in safe mode. Avira (my regular AV) continues to recognize a virus ( in both safe and normal mode) then it is unable to move it to quarantine or remove it, I can't remove the virus using pocket killbox. The virus doesn't really seem to have any effect on my laptop but I would rather get rid of it. I googled it and could find literally nothing about how to get rid of it. Could someone pretty please help because I'm essentially computer illiterate. I enclosed the report from avira.

I have Avira free anti-virus. I don't want it anymore (trying to switch to Malwarebytes, which seems to be preferred among folks here.

I deleted the shortcut from my laptop, then went to add/remove programs and deleted Avira there as well. The problem is that it's still here! I'm running Windows 7 and in the bottom right bar of my computer (near the clock) I still have the Avira icon and the program is still running. I've heard that it's not advisable to run more than one anti-virus program at a time, so I want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Help, please. Thanks!

A:Help-I can't delete Avira anti-virus

Hello and welcome. You needed to turn iy off first before deleting anything.Try running AppRemover You may wind up reinstalling Avira and then uninstalling.Malwarebytes is not an Antivirus its an antimalware. What is the difference between AntiVirus and AntiSpyware? Now I do use both Avira and MBAm together. Better to hav an AV and an AM together. That said if you want to changs your AV ... Download the new one to your desktop.Uninstall the old.Reboot the machine.Install, update and scan.

Hi,

I am on an office computer which did not have an Antivirus-Program for a longer time. I want to make the the computer secure, but as I am not much into computers and don't want to destroy anything, I am asking for your advice.

I now downloaded Avira AntiVir Version 7.06.00.270 and run a scan. It detected several malware but I'm not sure whether I can just delete them. It detected e.g. autoran.bat, autorun.inf, autorun.vbs as they "contain detection pattern of the VBS script virus VBS/Small.K"
The programm also detected Trojan horses TR/Ylob.CA.28 and TR/PCK.PolyCrypt.D.220 (latter seems to be related to some online game).

As I was not sure whether these are really harmful programms, and I read in some forum that deleting the autorun-files may result in serious other problems, I ignored them. However, especially the autorun-detections kept on coming 188 times... so I finally stopped the scan just before getting crazy .

Can anyone give me hints to resolve the problem? I would be VERY grateful... I am just very unsure what to do and as it is not my own computer I do not want to take risks.

Thank you so much,

Almut.

The Avira manual update tool, also known as the Fusebundle Generator, allows you to create an entire antivirus update archive incrementally. In other words, you no longer have to download an entire archive for each engine and signature update.

Although automatic updating is the best way to stay protected, you can update Avira antivirus manually anytime. For Windows users, the easiest way is to right-click the Avira icon in the taskbar and select Start update.

You can also use our free Avira update tool to perform an Avira manual update. This utility creates an archive (fuse bundle) containing the latest engine, the Avira VDF update files and the corresponding Avira antivirus update control files (info.gz).

Updated: Prior to submitting my post I was intrigued by the fact Avira Launcher is mandatory for Avira Antivirus.

"Avira Launcher is an important component of the protection package. Therefore, starting with the latest update, Avira Antivirus Pro as well as all the other Avira products require Avira Launcher installed to ensure their functionality at full potential and to stay permanently connected to the Avira Online Essentials Dashboard."
Find out more: Avira Answers

To use Avira Antivirus, you are NOT required to create an Avira Account, but you are forced to use Avira Launcher, and not all products under the Launcher are free to download without an Avira Account.

In my opinion, Avira should allow users without an Avira Account to remove Avira Launcher from their systems.

Please note that the installation packages for Avira Antivirus Pro have been replaced by a combination of the new Online Essentials Launcher and the Avira Antivirus Pro product (version 1.1.19) for the languages English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

This means that, if you install the bundle, the Antivirus Pro installation is done automatically. The beta license is installed automatically, too.

If you already have an Avira Pro but no Launcher installed, please download the Launcher installation file and install it over the existing AV Pro.

An important note to those testers who already have a paid license that was bought in a shop or online:

You will need an additional account for Online Essentials (my.avira.com). Please create a new account and use an email address dedicated to this account only. Afterwards, switch to Betacenter and change your email address to the same address that you used to create your "beta" account for Online Essentials.

If there is a malicious element in a webpage, will ABS block it, or the URL must be generally blacklisted in Avira's servers as malicious so to be blocked? I don't know if this question has a point as I don't know if web protection component worked this way.

I am trying to delete songs from my itunes that I do not like anymore to make some space on my laptop. I know that sometimes when I delete songs it pops up saying "delete from hard drive?". I want that to pop up always, but for some reason it doesnt sometimes. My friend said that it will only do that if you have itunes organizing the folders. So i deleted my preferences and made it so itunes will organize my music. However I still delete songs and they dont delete off my hard drive. I was told that the songs have to be in the itunes music folder, I had alot of songs in there, but some in a different folder. I thought maybe I could move the other folder into the itunes music folder, and then it would work. However now when I go to play some songs it says the file cannot be found. Anything I can do? HELP ME!

A:How do I delete songs from hard drive when I delete them from my Itunes library?

Because you moved the songs from where iTunes was used to looking for them they will not play - when each song comes up and the error message you described comes up you can click yes to find them and browse for them (you should know where they are if you put them all in one folder). This will re-establish the link to the song's new location in iTunes.
If you have lots to do, it may be faster to delete all your songs from iTunes (not your computer) and set up the folder on your computer properly - one My Music folder with all your music in there - they can be further sorted into subfolders if you want to. Then open iTunes, set the Preferences to "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" and import all your music from your My Music folder again.
When you get new music by whatever means and import them to iTunes it will automatically place a copy in the iTunes "iTunes music" folder for you and always know where to look for them.

But I don't recommend avira as it can't protect you from new and more sophisticated threats reliably.
Not having a good dynamic protection is the reason for that.

Q: Avira

I installed this AV a few days ago, and am probably going to uninstall it, unless someone can advise me on how to deal with a couple of problems. First, is that each day, when it scans, it looks at all volumes, including my archives, which I know contains some files that are in the malware category, but I do not want them removed by the AV. When it pops an alert, there is no option to exclude the file from future scans, so I have to cancel out the alerts daily. I looked through the configuration options and found no way to exclude any specific files.

When it is scanning, and when it updates itself, it causes other problems, like freezing everything until it finishes updating, or other things to go haywire when it is scanning.

If no one can offer solutions, then I would like recommendations for any other free AV that works better.

A:Avira

I had a similar problem with a friend that had installed it.

A:Avira and MSE

1) You should not use two anti virus apps simultaneously. If you intend to use Avira you should uninstall MSE (though I would keep MSE and forget Avira).

2) SypBot is old school and pretty much worthless. I'd uninstall it. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware are the current best of breed.

3) Exactly what did your scans reveal? I'm guessing they were tracking cookies and the like - essentially benign items that anti virus apps don't care about.

Gentlemen [and Ladies ?]

I have three questions.

My Operating System is Windows XP Professional SP2.

1. I read the reply to PURE TRAGEDY's post of the 7th April 2005 and immediately uninstalled my AVG7 anti-virus scanner. Norton System Works antivirus and AVG7 antivirus had been running side by side for six or seven months and nothing untoward had happened, but when I read the dire warning in the advice to PURE TRAGEDY, AVG7 got the chop.

I would like to scan with Norton in SAFE MODE but do not know how to do it. When I had Windows 98SE, my computer used to jump into SAFE MODE without me doing anything positive to cause it to do that. I had no idea how to get out of SAFE MODE so a neighbour helped. I cannot remember what he did. My computer was in SAFE MODE for two days on one occasion because I did not dare mess about with it.

So, an explanation, in 'dummy' language, exactly how I can get into SAFE MODE, and scan my computer for viruses with Norton, and how I can get out of it, will be appreciated.

2. I have Norton System Works, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster. Spyware Guard, and 2-Squared in my computer. The programmes are updated and used every day. Norton detected a virus which AVG7 did not, so I feel happy with the Norton security.

I too am a tidy person, to the degree I can be, oldsoldierThe reason you had no untoward results having both Norton & AVG running was probably due to how they were configured to run.If both were set to to scan continously and be auto-updated constantly, then some problems may have surfaced. You may simply delete the Grisoft folder. You need not open any of the files before you do.That folder was essentially for backups to what the AV software did for you.Without it's presence, or in light of your decision not to re-install it, those files in that folder are useless.I should mention I uninstalled Norton in favor of AVG because:1. Norton updates less frequently than AVG, and isn't effective against as many new variants as the Grisoft has been in the last couple of years.2. Norton costs more.3. Norton, when uninstalled, is also messy. It seems to me to require more system resources to do less for me. An opinion based on a couple years of observation, and reading countless HJT logs where it is installed and serious malware problems also co-exist. 4. Norton offers several products. I've had most installed at one time or another.I bought the System Works Suite in 2002. It deeply embeds into winXP when you use all the features of it, and slows the PC down considerably doing so. If you do not use a similar product, then you will not have similar experiences. The anti-virus aspect of it alone did prove IMHO to be marginally adequate.Microsoft Beta 1 is not anti-vir... Hello all,
This is the second computer I have experienced this issue on... I am not sure what setting I may have unknowinlgy enabled to create this fiasco.. hopefully you all have an opinion.

All of the sudden, my backspace key will not delete text that I have highlighted in Word 2002. My delete key will, but my backspace key won't.... this is a pain in the rear since it takes a lot more effort to use to use the delete key than the backspace key, and using backspace has been ingrained in me since childhood.

I did not change any settings or turn on any features (unless it was unknowingly)... I was not messing with options or settings recently at all, as well. I am completely stumped as to how this happens... as mentioned before, it is the second computer to do this to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton!

Joe

I had the Avira Premium Security Suite since March and had no problems. Yesterday I received a popup from Avira which said there was a update and I downloaded the update. This update removed my previous license installed setup and rebooted. When I signed in the system would not open so I restored to a previous point.

After restoring my security went crazy and I lost the firewall plus the virus protection of Avira. I checked the control panel to see if Avira was there and it was but not functioning. I attempted to remove and then reload it several times but the system will not do it.

How can I remove the Avira from the program list because I am lost.

Thanks

I got a computer from a friend that I want to use in my classroom to have my library on and some other stuff. If had some viruses and I ran Malware, Avira, and SuperantiSpyware and deleted everything and such. But now I keep getting a message every so often from Avira saying it is blocking "autorun.inf" on my d:/

Some help would be wonderful. Since this isn't my everyday computer it doesn't have to be perfect, I'm thinking I could even remove the backup drive if that is an option. I really don't know.

A:Avira keeps blocking something

From what I know, autorun.inf is the file associated with the AutoRun function on your computer... say if you insert a CD or USB flash drive, your computer is typically set as a default to run/open them automatically. Disabling the AutoRun function can protect your computer from other kinds of attacks. I saw the link below posted elsewhere on BC, it might help explain further. It discusses the AutoRun feature, and why it is best when disabled:http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/11/ple...torun-asap.htmlI've never used Avira but it may be a new(er) function that was added for your protection. If so, I am sure there is somewhere within Avira's settings where you can disable that function, if it is that bothersome to you, although it's probably better left how it is, as the link above should explain in detail.

When the license of my avira internet security expired, i uninstalled it and tried to install the free version(2013 version). But the installation fails giving an errooe message(error code 5, the file could not be copied ....) The file name and path given varies in different failed attempts. What to do?

A:avira antivirus

Hi, try running their removal tool which will remove registry entries created by Avira. They recommend running this before installing a new version. Be sure to restart your computer after running it.

hello everybody, i just bought avira pro antivirus for 3 pc 6 years license,

i need firewall with it, windows firewall is poor i think,

by the way my operating system is windows 10 x64

cpu i7 3770
ram 8gb ddr 3
256 gb ssd

i need your ideas

A:Which Firewall should I use with Avira Pro?

Why do you think Windows Firewall is poor? There is no HIPS / IDS, or Pop-ups to ask Inbound/Outbound connections, but it's no sloucher.

By default, Avira Antivirus and Suite utilises Windows Firewall, as a replacement to their own. You could try TinyWall, Windows Firewall Control and those sorts, if you're interested.

For free, I imagine the likes of Comodo Firewall, ZoneAlarm Firewall, PrivateFirewall will be suggested by others.

I'm using avira antivirus and in the settings the box to block autorun is checked but I also have the box to exclude CDs & DVDs checked but if I put in a DVD to play it won't allow it, I have to disable avira in order to to view the DVD.
I am running XP home SP3 and the only way around it is to disconnect from the internet and ndisable avira.
Anyone have a cure for this. Thanks

I am looking to try an new antivirus program and have narrowed it down to Avast or Avira. I am hoping that I can get some feedback based on user experiences

Any feedback would be appreciated

A:Avast or Avira

http://www.av-comparatives.org/Try then both, careefully uninstalling each totally as you switch. What works well for one user may not fit your system in the same way.I've used both and like both. Avast has a funky non-windows-like interface and uses proxy port which you will need to lock down in the firewall.Antivir has a splash screen aka buy-me nag every update which is very rough to disable. But then if we don't pay ...So now you have a summary of totally unimportant features

After reading so many good comments about Avira A/V, I decided to ditch AVG and try the program. Everything is fine EXCEPT the ads that appear randomly wanting me to update and buy the $$$ version. This is annoying as &$^%#.

Any way to stop these from showing up ??? Have adblock + but it apparently doesn't cover this situation.

Thanks
Ray
