trackpad stopped working, now cant be found in DM or by Driver software Windows 7

Q: trackpad stopped working, now cant be found in DM or by Driver software Windows 7

Restored my U300S to factory defaults, everything was working then out of the blue it stopped working. A check of the Device manger doesnt show it at all. Went to the site downloaded the correct driver install pack (TouchPad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)). when it runs through the setup it states "Cannot find cypress track pad" and aborts. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 8 (via BootCamp) and I was running games on Steam.

Randomly, the game froze, and my Xbox 360 controller stopped responding. When I exited out to try and fix the problem, the trackpad stopped working completely and the whole thing froze.

Upon restart, the trackpad simply doesn't work (still doesn't) and I have to use a mouse to control it at all.

I reinstalled all of the BootCamp drivers, and it still doesn't work.

Any idea why this could be?

A:TrackPad Driver Randomly Stopped Working

Found a fix. Just needed to go to Device Manager, found two errors with the trackpad, selected "Properties" then "Resintall Drivers", selected the drivers from the list (in WindowsSupport folder) and then updated them and everything works again.

Thanks anyway!

I did a search to see if this was already posted but didn't find it.  So, here's my story. I have a P40 Yoga that's about a year old.  A couple of weeks ago, I received a pop-up from Lenovo Vantage saying there was a system update.  Like a good user, I said OK.  I didn't notice it right away (because I use an external mouse) but the trackpad, left/right click buttons and the "trackpoint" center button all stopped working.  I did a lot of searching to see if there was a resolution but couldn't find one. Eventually, I went into Control Panel | Device Manager | Mice and other pointing devices | ELAN pointing device | Driver and saw that there was a recent update.  Fortunatly, there was a "Roll Back Driver" option which I figured couldn't hurt anything.  After a reboot, the driver is back to one dated 2/13/2017 version  All mouse accoutrements are once again working. What prompted me to post today is that the Lenovo Vantage pop-up appeared again telling me there's an update and it wants to put the bad driver back. Irconically, the pop-up says: "Lenovo recommends that you install these updates to optimize your computer" Yah, right!  Now I'm sceptical about ever doing another update.

My Aspire M5-481PT laptop was working fine for months with Windows 10, then suddently the trackpad stopped working after an automatic update. I was able to install the most recent Synaptic Windows 10 driver, and after a few hours of farting around got the trackpad to work again, but the two finger scrolled still doesn't work...it doesn't show up as an option in the Synaptic settings (see screenshot):Has anyone come up with a fix for this?   This seems to be a common issue with Windows 10 and the new automatic driver updating which is impossible to turn off.  Come on Microsoft / Acer, how could a critical piece of hardware like this stop working?!  Let's do some better testing before rolling out updates....every time I waste hours to getting my computer to work with little support from the manufacturers, I am a one step closer to buying an Apple machine next time. Thanks for your help,Allen

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop + Windows XP that worked fine untill I have updated the WiFi driver. Since then I get exclamation mark on the device and I can't turn on the WiFi.

Installation of the driver to "found new hardware" fails says driver "the system cannot find the file specified". I tried to rollback the driver but it did not help. I tried to reinstall the driver but no help either. Dell technician tried to repeat that and nothing changed. We can see the WiFi card in the BIOS setup.

Dell replaced the motherboard and the WiFi card, and put Intel 4965AGN instead' but it did not help.

Hello, my trackpad has stopped working. The trackpoint works fine, as does the keyboard and USB mouse over connected afterwards.Today I had installed new ram and switched in an SSD with Windows 10 to replace an HDD with Windows 7.The drive switch went without a hitch, just plugged and played.Everything worked on first start up after the switch. Eventually I was prompted to restart to "finish configuring devices." That's when the trackpad stopped funxtioning.I've downloaded the drivers from Lenovo and made sure everything is enabled.Any ideas?

After a Window's update, my trackpad stopped working. After searches online for how to fix the issue, I noticed that the trackpad was completely unistalled from my computer (vs. just being disabled). I went to the Lenovo website and re-downloaded the driver, which fixed the issue..... for a few weeks. Now my trackpad stopped working again (randomly mid use...I had not restarted my computer or anything), with no further windows updates occuring. I looked and it is once again, unistalled. I tried to download the driver again, but it didn't fix the issue this time. How do I get my trackpad back installed and working?

My trackpad has suddenly stopped working. I have tried everything I know to turn it back on but nothing works. Pressing the FN / trackpad keys do not turn on the trackpad and all software indications of trackpad activity are greyed out as if the pad is off. A USB mouse works fine.

The machine is a refurb and is running Windows 10, Is there anything else I can try before I return it under warranty.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Detailed box shows

After a restart, the computer does the same thing over and over again.

I managed to stop the problem by deactivating the wireless internet adapter via the radio switch.
Interestingly, whenever I make a connection to the internet (not when I activate the adapter), the error occurs again.

I?m currently scanning my computer in safe mode with avg, but I?n not confident this will help.

Does anyone know what this can be?

The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

I am getting this error for a long time now but it only happens with more newer games like : GTA V, heroes and generals and now also with Fallout 4.
I play alot of Counter strike and I have never had this error while playing this.
This is the error I am talking about. NOTE that this is not the same driver I use.

After a certain time my screen goes black, it closes the game I'm playing and its showing the error shown above.

Things I have tried:
Re-installing windows
Updating my graphic drivers
Installing different graphic drivers(with clean install)
Updating my BIOS
Changing settings in the Nvidia configuration window.
Checking the temperature and it does not go above 60C

I've had contact with Nvidia and tried some of the above and now they tell me I should bring my pc to a local shop to get it checked out. But first I want to ask you guys from the forum if any of you might know any solution to try out before I do that.

Windows 7 x64
Intel core i5-4570 2100 1150 BOX
Coolermaster B600 600w ATX23
Seagate 1TB st1000DM003 7200 SA3
Ram is ripjaw 4x 2GB DDR3

Since I am not making this post at home I cannot make sure what the exact RAM memory is I use because I didnt buy it online.

I am also not able to upload a DXDiag report right now but I will do that when as soon as I get home.

I hope this would be enough information for now and I am looking forward for all your replies!

For a few years I have been having a problem that has been increasing slowly.  At first the problem was simply if I was watching internet videos on full screen, occasionally the screen would go black and the flash player would crash, and afterwards a little notification would pop up from the bottom righthand corner saying that the "Display driver stopped working and has recovered."  If I refreshed the webpage it would work again.
Later, it started increasing to videos I watched on my DVD player on full screen, and started happening more often.  Now it happens fairly often and even will happen occasionally if I don't have a video or flash player up.
Is there any possible fix for this problem?  I notice it is a fairly common problem.

Dear forum,

I recently updated my Lenovo E320 Keyboard- and Mousedriver. Something went wrong during the update. After the reboot I could not login to my Windows Account because the keyboard and the mouse stopped working. Keyboard works fine when entering/changing settings in bios.

So far I have installed a second Windows 7 on my second partition because I though I would be to somehow install the drivers from there. But I have not succeeded doing that.

Plese let me know if you have any useful hints.

Thank you very much in advance.

A:Keyboard stopped working after driver update - Windows login not possi

If you have an old PS2 keyboard laying around, plug it in and boot up. It should work. That will let you get to system restore using keyboard shortcuts, and you can use a restore point before the driver update was installed. Hopefully, that will bring back your USB keyboard and mouse. If the update caused the problem, I wouldn't suggest applying it again.

I'm running a Dell XPS 15 Laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  My Synaptic Touchpad stopped working after I updated an academic research program called Papers.  I don't know if that program caused these problems or not, but I'm afraid of uninstalling it because I may lose a lot of data.  (Long story, it's an expired trial version, and to export the data I would have to pay a fair bit of money, which I'm trying to avoid.  Right now all I want is to be able to scroll again.)
Anyway, the pointer would just remain in the default place on the screen, and when I use the keyboard to navigate to the Mouse section of Control Panel it says it "Cannot Connect with Synaptics Pointing Device", etc.
So I uninstalled the Synaptics software, and restarted.  Now the touchpad works fine, but without any of the vertical or horizontal scrolling capabilities that the Synaptics software had.
So, here's the current situation: if I install the latest Synaptics touchpad driver from the Dell site, the touchpad doesn't work at all.  If I uninstall it, and reboot with just the PS/2 Mouse generic Windows driver, the touchpad works but without any scrolling options.
I updated the BIOS to A12 from A06, but it didn't fix the problem.
Thank you so much for any help and suggestions!  Let me know if you need any more info.

This has been a problem that I've been having since the original trackpad driver Lenovo put out when Windows 10 was officially released.  I've seen other people mention they have the same problem, but there's still no solution.  Problem: After the Yoga S1 goes to sleep or hibernates, the trackpad doesn't work.  The cursor doesn't show up on the screen until I move the TrackPoint or if I have an external mouse connected.  The only thing thing functional is the trackpoint and physically pushing the trackpad for right and left click.  Gestures, tap to click, etc. do not work.  The problem has been consistent with every driver version up to and including the latest that Lenovo put out on 9/7.   The only way to get the trackpad working again is to uninstall the synaptics driver, reboot, reinstall driver, reboot again.  Probem returns after waking up the computer after going to sleep or hibernate.   I'm forced to use driver version directly from synaptics.  The trackpad works perfectly, but the right and middle buttons (at the top of the trackpad) for the trackpoint do not work since it's just a generic driver.   Lenovo has put out at least two new drivers since this problem has popped up  and others have complained about it on this forum and still hasn't been fixed.

A:Yoga S1 Trackpad still stops working after waking from sleep/hibernate with latest driver

Same problem  even with latest driver as of March 2018.  Bios updated to latest version.  Windows 10. had the MB changed twice.  Lenovo will be replacing trackpoing/track pad.  So frustrating.

So I was trying to update my drivers on my NVIDIA GeForce 970 graphics card. For some weird reason it failed every attempt no matter what I did. I spent hours looking online at peoples suggestions: I tried uninstalling everything, and reinstalling it. I
tried a "Clean Install". And then I tried using this DDU program which was a huge mistake since now my graphics card doesn't show up in my Device Manager, and it is permanently stuck on using the default video drivers (so my resolution is HUGE).
The DDU also erased all of my System Restore points, so there was no way for me to reverse the issue...
Then I read that I could try going into the device manager and manually installing the graphics drivers to fix the issue...However, seeing as how my Nvidia Card isn't showing up on the Device Manager I was assuming there was no way for me to do this. I decided
to try anyway by righ clicking on the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and directing it to the Nvidia folder that has the drivers that I want to install.
It then said,
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Access is denied.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."

I have recently obtained a Dell-XPS-M 1530 with a clean install of windows 10,it is a beautiful thing.
My problem is that the only way to scroll the page is to go to the side line on the right of the screen an bring it down that way. The pointer moves as it should all over the screen, so that is ok. It seems as if the pointer can not go deep enough to reach the page.
When I connect a wireless mouse every thing works as it should and I can scroll the page without any problem, so, is there any driver of whatever stable to overcome this problem???
Kind regards...........Philip

I used Windows 7 x64 on my Macbook Air with specific drivers from Apple trough Bootcamp at 100% satisfaction.
I now upgraded to Windows 8 PRO where everything works perfectly except the Trackpad! I tried every kind of workaround I could imagine to install the Bootcamp (v.3.3 to 4.0) Trackpad drivers (even in compatibility (7) mode) with no success!
Beyond the frustration, I imagine that this is a "we do not want you to install those drivers" situation since this is a "tablet" style OS and probably, the gestures etc. provided by the Apple Bootcamp driver might not match the MS expectation/model.
I don't know/believe that Apple will be nice enough to write a specific driver to please MS & Windows 8 users and wondering if MS will support that hardware at a point to develop a driver...
What can be expected? What do you think? Or have you a solution?
PS: Now using an external Bluetooth "notebook mouse 5000"  (from MS. of course)...But then, it's not so "Airy" anymore...

A:Macbook Air Trackpad driver Windows 8 PRO RTM

Trying to get my Apple Macbook Multitouch Trackpad drivers to install on my 64 bit Windows 8 RTM finally worked! This is my story:

I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8, keeping all my applications and files. Because of this, Boot Camp 3.2 is still installed but my trackpad was not working.

I tried to install the drivers manually using device manager from the Boot Camp 4 installation files, but the installation failed.

I tried hacking the BootCamp64.msi file using Orca to remove the LaunchCondition table, but it would still detect the system wasn't Windows 7 and fail to install.

I tried compatibility mode on the boot camp setup.exe file, but it kept saying "boot camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model", I am using an older unibody Macbook late-2008 that Apple does not officially support running 64 bit windows, even though it
works just fine.

So I went back to installing the trackpad drivers manually through device manager. At this point there were no device manager entries for the Apple Trackpad or Multitouch Trackpad, instead I saw these two generic entries for usb input device. I figured out
these two entries were the trackpad installed with generic microsoft drivers and I tried to update them to the apple drivers.

When I tried to update these generic device drivers to the apple drivers, I received the message "system cannot find the path specified". So I checked out the SetupAPI log file in windows and discovered it ... Read more

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"

I've spent hours researching this error - Seems like many people have the same issue although there is no difinitive fix or known cause.

I'm hoping someone here has an answer.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM (HP)

This is not an upgraded Vista system.

It's not a specific driver related issue as it's the same response/effect be it graphics/chip set/usb/printer drivers.

Please dont suggest to flatten and re-install or run a repair install - It's not an option, I only have remote access to the unit
as it's currently in field use.

This is a machine specific issue - identical machine purchased at the same time and configured the same has no issue.

So the story.

User has been fine for weeks - no hardware of software changes except Windows Updates.

A Camera/USB connection that was working no longer does.
Tried in all USB ports

Plug in - windows announces found new hardware, tries to install drivers then fails
with "Windows found software for your device but encountered an error installing ...."

Device manager finds and identifies device although it is in the 'Unknown Device" category.

Manually updating drivers via search/internet or point directly at a driver has exactly the same effect.

Thinking this was just the camera drivers - I researched and downloaded new drivers from camera manufacturers sites

We reset the computer manually, letting it sit for a minute unplugged. It booted up slower than normal, but otherwise properly. We then ran chkdsk, it said that the Master File Table's BITMAP was incorrect. We then ran chkdsk /scan as it told us to, and it said there were no errors in the filesystem.
Are the errors gone? If not, what should I do to fix them?

A:Computer suddenly stopped working, "Boot Device Not Found"

I would suggest that you download and run SeaTools to see if there is a problem with the hdd.

Something is preventing my Cyberlink DVD Suite 5 burning software from working. Up until yesterday it has always worked very well, but now all of its functions don't work. I click on Make a Data Disk, and nothing happens. It's the same with all of its functions. Nothing happens. It's dead.

I thought there might be a missing registry file so I did a Windows XP Pro SP3 repair install yesterday. I've installed all the updates. I removed all of the Cyberlink files from Add Remove Programs and then I ran Cyberlink's registry file removal tool and cleaned all the remaining files from the system. I then reinstalled Cyberlink DVD Suite 5. Nothing has changed. It still doesn't work. I'd appreciate some help with this please. I need to make a resue disk and imaging, but I need to be sure everything is as it should be before I do it.

For over a year now I have been using a scanner (which is part of an all-in-one printer), digital camera and web cam, but last week they all stopped working. I have tried to uninstall all of them and the computer detects the hardware but it says there was an error downloading the software. My printer works, therefore I know it is not a USB problem itís just the imaging software that doesnít work. When I go into Device Manager the scanner, camera, and web cam have a yellow exclamation mark next to them.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

For a few weeks now Media Center has not been able to view live TV. It reports a "Tuner Not Found" error. Some of the things tried...
. Device Manager
.. working properly, ViXS PureTV-U 48B0 (NTSC/ATSC Combo)
.. Windows did not find any driver updates available
. HP hardware diagnostic - pass
. restore to before the problem started - no luck
. Google search - several similar instances, most old or not applicable
. This forum search - 5 threads, no applicable solution
. check of ehRecvr service in task manager - running
. Rerun of media center setup - can't find the tuner in setup

I'm stumped. I suspect a corrupt database or configuration file. I had a stubborn Media Center problem similar to this a few years ago resolved on phone support that I didn't document. I vaguely remember deleting some configuration stuff manually before doing a media center setup.
