HP Pavilion DV6700 will not boot.

Q: HP Pavilion DV6700 will not boot.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook that will not boot. It was left unplugged for several months because I don't use it very much. I am getting ready for a vacation and usually take it along but when I plugged it in to update the OS it started downloading and installing updates then shut down and now goes into a loop. Tries to boot, gets as far as loading the desktop then black screen and then starts reboot again.
It has the original bios version F.34. everything there looks good. Ran HD self test from bios then memory test. Everything checks out ok. Factory OS was Vista but is now running 7 Ultimate 64bit.
If I try to boot in safe mode with networking I get a BSOD. Safe mode will boot. Safe mode with command prompt will boot.
Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: HP Pavilion DV6700 will not boot.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you are able to see the Safe Mode options you are in the Advanced Boot Options.  One of the options there is Repair Your Computer.  Run this and see if it can resolve this issue.
What is the make and model of this computer?

Hello, I have a big major display problem in HP Pavilion dv6767tx with Intel Core2duo paired with nVidia graphics. Its display is divided into 6 parts that too are blurred with lines because of this problem I am not able to use.  The problem started one day as I was working on the computer and it suddenly got stuck during my work and then restarted itself but with this display problem. All the LEDs, fan and everything is working except the display. This problem is on BIOS menu too. And now is restarting itself after every 15 minutes. The steps I tried are:Overheating the laptop as stated in some solutionsRunning in Safe modeConnecting to external monitor but when doing so there is no display on the monitorDisabling and uninstalling nvidia graphics driver.Resetting RAM modulesP.S. I also gave it to repair once then I got it back working for 2500INR and it again stopped working in 2 months.

I'm having a problem with my laptop that I've never had before. As it says in the title, I have an HP Pavilion dv6700. I was using it today, for nothing different than I usually do (an MMO, internet, and msn), and it randomly turned off. I blinked and tried to turn it back on. All the lights turned on, then it shut off again. So I thought it might have overheated and took out the battery, and waited until it was cooled off to turn it back on. For a bit it stayed on, told me to scan during startup, which I agreed to. In the middle of scan it shut off again. Now it won't even get that far, it just turns on for a split second and then turns off. I looked at the help section, but it didn't seem to help me. It referred to lights blinking, and none of my lights are blinking at all. They all light up as if it's going to start, then all die at once. No deviation from that. Is there anything I can possibly do?

A:Pavilion dv6700 won't start

My DV6748 is doing the exact same thing. I have removed the battery, unplugged it, and it will start to power on, the fan will come on, and within 2 seconds... nothing. It goes through this process continually.

I tried most of the black screen suggestions and short cuts. all seem to work for me but just for a short time. the longest so far is about 20 minutes.
after that the screen goes black again.
In the control panel I set up my computer not to power down go to sleep,
no screen saver nothing. It was down so long I did not want it to start with
a black screen again. but now it still goes black after about 20 minutes.
what else can I do to keep my screen on without keep going black.

Seeing as this is an old laptop, it could be that the screen itself is going bad. They're not to hard to replace for a DIY and not to expensive.

Hello, I am greatfully sorry if I have these questions in the right section. (1) I have a laptop that I don't use anymore, it is an HP Pavilion dv6700 with Windows Vista 32-bit, but what was the CPU, GPU, and RAM in one of these? Mine was without the webcam/mic. (2) This laptop won't power on anymore, it did have an overheating problem, fans were really loud, and when I connected the power cord up to it nothing happened. What is the reason to that? Could it be that the laptop is just junk? I really don't use it anymore, but I just wanted to know that if I came across this problem again, I will then know.  I use an HP 15 with Black Licorish Gloss Plastic on it now. Thanks in advance!    HPOJPro8710

Got a HP Pavilion DV6700 series, model DV6811EO that is running Win7Pro 32bit.

Can not get the USB ports to work at all. Does anyone got a hint on the driver to use? HP do not support this modell, and there is no win 7 drivers for it at all.

The only error in device manager is the unknown device under USB. See enclosed picture please.

I tried all the chipset and other drivers on HP support for vista on this one, but with no luck.

I attempted a factory recovery to this HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop but I am getting the BSOD and researching online I am finding different causes and solutions. The recovery did not recognize either the DVD drive nor the Sound and I still keep getting that BSOD message, I tried Startup repair, that did not work. I would like to try to reload Vista from a retail disk but in the boot order, the only option showing is the HDD, in the BIOS I am seeing all boot options are showing and no matter what I select to boot off either a USB cd drive or internal cd rom, none of them works.
I then ran the Recovery again and now anytime I restart I am seeing that BSOD only for a split second before it goes to windows but the system still does not recognize the DVD rom, the Sound and USB. I tried installing the chipset and audio drivers from HP's site but no change, does this mean that the DVD, USB port and sound module is shot? As you can see there isn't a Sound device showing nor the DVD?

A:HP Pavilion dv6700 STOP: 0x0000009F

Could very well be the motherboard. Check out these links.
Edit: You said "the only option showing is the HDD, in the BIOS I am seeing all boot options are showing and no matter what I select to boot off either a USB cd drive or internal cd rom, none of them works"
I am a little confused as you said the only option showing was HDD and in your next sentence it seems you are also able to select USB CD drive and Internal CD Rom from a list. Does Pressing enter when the HDD boot device is highlighted in BIOS give you a USB HDD option?

Hello, I will be replacing my hard drive on my HP Pavilion Notebook, and after looking at the HP support site, i have many questions. 1)  I have two different model numbers on my computer - dv6000 on the right above my screen, and dv6700 on the bottom of my computer and System Information. Which is correct? I was directed (via another forum answer to another user) to check the p/n, which in my case is KT260AV. And what is this "CTO" referring to when I pull up info on the HP Support website.... that does not appear anywhere on my computer that I can see. 2) Once I install the new hard drives, I want to do a fresh install of Windows 7 x64. Will all I have to do is boot the computer with windows 7 x64 iso on USB drive inserted, or will I need to update the BIOS, and/or make some other software/firmware change? 3) Once I have Windows 7 x64 installed on the new drive without issue(s), could/should I attempt to upgrade to Windows 10? I thank you in advance for your help, Mike

Ok well i got this laptop about 1 month ago and everything was going good until about 3 days ago. The laptop started to randomly freeze up while i was in firefox or even just moving folders to the trash can. I then thought to myself if i reformat it will fix the problem. I can hear a bell sound in the background when it freeze.

A:No sound card HP Pavilion dv6700 (dv6810ew)

This can happen sometimes, first of all open device manager and right click your computer name and click refresh, this may show it, if it didnt you should go ahead with installing the driver and see if that finds it.

Have you rebooted it and checked again ?

Here is the link for the drivers, you will need to find more info from your laptop (normally found on the stick on the back) basicly select the right model from the list of about 10 i think, then find the sound card drivers, download and install.

Best of luck to you my friend =)

HP pavilion dv6700 notebook

Upon catching a bug virus, I took no chance and formatted everything, instead of the system recovery solution (F11) since there was a virus there anyway, so I did not want to take any chance.

Since I did not make any CD/DVD from from the previous Windows Vista system that came with the Notebook, I went buying a brand new Windows XP Pro DVD. But now the Install of Windows XP Pro keeps failing with error "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer " when chosing the option "To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER".

I have no other option to chose other from 'To repair Windows XP Installation using recovery console, Press R" and to quit setup, Press F3. But no options to boot the install from a 2nd, 3rd partition.

Obviously, the Hard drive is on a 2nd, 3rd partition of the hard drive and Windows XP Install can't access it.

So I loaded a Boot CD, ran fdisk from Bart's CDROM Boot Diskbut it fails with error "AUTOEXEC: Booted drive ia sL Setting up Ram disk at drive q: Autoexec Aborted" and it would not launch fdisk. I guess it has to do with the fact that the system booting drive is on a 2nd, 3rd partition. I usually have no problem using fdisk or partition magic to merge all partition in one, get the partition activated and boot the install from there, but on my notebook I seem to not be able to ... A:Issues installing Windows XP on my hp pavilion dv6700 notebook

That's because XP does not have the SATA drivers for the Hard Drive .. so it doesn't see it.
If you know the Driver .. it can be slipsteamed into the XP install CD.
Even if you can do this, you'll probably have trouble finding the other drivers that are missing.

Have you though about getting the recovery DVDs from HP ??
You should have recovered from the recovery partition .. it was safe.

Hello everyone.

I have been researching everywhere on the internet about this topic. Seems it's a pretty common problem with this model and many others. I just cant seem to find a straight forward fix. It started off with the laptob bios test which stated that my hdd was shot. I talked to the tek guy and he wants to charge me $375 for a new 200g hdd + service fees. I bought a 500gb off newegg for $50. I want to do this myself so any help would be awesome!

so far this is the info I got for ya. I ordered the recovery disks, installed em. Everything loaded up and followed promps so it cant be the screen or video card. BUT upon restart the black screen comes back, occasionaly with a blinking curser. Windows loads up after a great number of startups, but shuts back down.

The "Bios" pheonix, comes up; esc= unable startup message f1=sys info f2=startup check(doesnt work) f9= change boot device order f10=enter setup f11=syst recovery......... then black screen

not trying to recover anything and if possible complete reset or different OS like xp, ubunto or something would be fine with me.

Not really sure what's going on with my laptop.
I installed Windows 7 from Vista after formatting the HD and during the installation, when (I think) it's supposed to restart at various points, my laptop would simply shut off and take an absurd amount of time to turn back on. Well... after successfully installing W7, it started to power off at random intervals, and it's never done this before. I'd have wait through the boot screen, etc.
I think installing W7 might have done something to the laptop's fan control, b/c it's notably more silent now...lol. I did a bit of research and it seems an overheating issue could've been the cause for the random shut downs, so I opened up the case slightly to clean out some dust, and ever since then I haven't been able to get it past simply powering up. The media keys and a few other lights turn on, but aside from that, nothing's happening.

Help please!

I own a Hp Pavillion dv6700 laptop and recently it wouldn't turn on for more than a few seconds. I tried troubleshooting by removing the battery and turning it on just with the powersupply, no difference. Vice versa.

I purchased another charger to see if that would help. Despite trying different combinations with chargers, batter in/out, the computer still only turns on for a few seconds(nothing comes up on the screen) and then turns itself off.

Reading some other forums similiar to this problem has yielded no help.

Another thing - the port that I plug the power supply into it seems like the cord can move around a bit.

HP Pavilion 6355 has the following issues:

1) Computer will not shut down by holding in power button. It must be "unplugged from outlet."

2) When power cord plugged in the light sequence on the tower reads, from left to right, yellow, green.

3) A Thumping sound comes from speakers, not the typical Bios Beeps.

4) Monitor is blank, yellow light indicator on.

5) Cannot open CD Drive, even manually.

This computer belongs to a friend of mine whose daughter uses it for High School work. She was working on it one day, received an error message, no, no, writing it down would be to easy , so she shut down using start-shutdown, and left for school. When she came back and resumed her work she was met with the above scenario.

Any ideas as to the most expeditious way to get to root of issue.

Okay so a while ago my laptop just went bad out of the blue. Ever since then I've been having symptoms. When it died I'm pretty sure that the motherboard was the issue. When I turned it on it just gave me beeps and nothing on the screen. I researched a bit and called HP for an RMA. They sent me a box to ship the laptop back in. Okay fine, but a few days later, and a bit of tinkering (reseated ram, took out HDD and put it back in.) the laptop magically began to work again. But the fingerprint reader was still not working. Then a few days later after that the fingerprint reader began to magically work again on its own too... WTH?

I was like okay whatever so dont fix something thats not broken right? I knew I should of just sent it in so they could do diagnosis, but I was reluctant because I read on the forums that they have horrendously long return times and the advertised 7 day turnaround was often the several month turn around time - with no clue as to where the in world your laptop was.

Alright so now it happened again. My laptop died on me with the beeps; this time it only lasted a few minutes, I reseated the ram and whatnot and waited a while and it worked again. But the fingerprint read is not detected anymore. And I'm afraid this time it isnt magically coming back...

Okay so what do I do? Is there a way to get it to come back? Reinstalling the drivers did nothing. Is there a way to find what is connected to my usb ports? Windows says its there b... Read more

This little rascal powers on, all the blue lights but no image on screen, and it beeps 4 times.

So I stripped it naked. With the power on the board illuminates as follows:

Blue light in centre of mobo
Green charge light
Green light when power button is pressed (Lasts for approx 5 seconds)
All the blue lights across the power panel

With power the heatsink doesn't run. It was very dirty with a dry white powder residue (possible spillage damage?)

The board looks ok (no visible liquid damage) and it has 2 NVIDIA chips, the larger one having a small burn scald mark on the top.

I am learning all the time with repairs and a novice I guess, but I am aware HP are known for graphic chip issues.....so...

1. Do I buy another MOBO, can I use the several versions I have seen on eBay? Are they all adaptable?

2. Buy a new heatsink and see if that works?

(code 28) I could be wrong but it appears that HP does not have Windows 7 drivers for the HP dv6700. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

A:CD/DVD driver for HP dv6700 Laptop

Hi: You need this driver for the coprocessor.  Install and restart the PC. I'm not sure if that is going to fix the DVD drive not working though. This package provides the driver for the NVIDIA nForce AR Chipset in the supported notebook models and operating systems. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37730.exe

Hello, I was trying fix the black screen on laptop HP DV6700 by video, never did before, just start to learn, I didnt fix it, I have to buy new motherboard and I try it again,my question is that I unfortunatelly ripped thin black cable on Lcd screen cable going to motherboard, I would like know if its necessary buy new one or I can leave it, you can see that cable on picture, thanks

A:trouble with LCD cable HP DV6700

Hi and welcome to TSG.

The edge of the tear is a bit dark making it difficult to see the damage. Unless you just tore some kind of outer sleeve, you will most likely need a new cable as well. If the other end of the cable is permanently attached to the LCD screen, you may be looking at getting a new LCD screen with cable.

Hi everyone I'm back and I have a question about my old Dv6700. So during the summer I thought it was a great idea to change my thermal paste because my computer was overheating but sadly the computer stopped working. When the power button is pushed the computer led's and fan turns on but their's no response on the screen and 3 seconds later the computer just turns back off. Any help will be appreciated

Whenever I go to power up my HP pavillion entertainment dv6700 laptop, it starts to turn on and then turns off a second later, turns back on, off, etc. I've tried a hard reset and cleaning it out, but no luck. I aso read to remove the motherboard battery for a half hour and that didn't work either. The power lights do come on and I hear the fan, but there is no beeping or light sequences and I cannot access bios. pressing the "esc" button prevents it from turning off but it still just remains a black screen and pressing buttons doesn't do anything more. From other sources I've looked at, they say I need to replace my motherboard. I am just wondering if there is anything else I can check before going through with replacing it?

Also, I can save myself hundreds of dollars if I replace the motherboard myself. Would you suggest doing this or just go to a service and fork out the cash?

A:HP pavillion dv6700 keeps turning on and off

you seem to have covered most things - i assume you have also tried running without the battery connected
and the hard reset - " remove battery and power adapter and then hold the power button down for 60 seconds " - correct

changing the motherboard could also create other problems and that assumes its just the motherboard

Not sure how much you arr saving - but the cost of a new laptop cannot be more and as soon as you give to someone else - the labour charge would be considerable

looking at the specification , replacement laptop should be quite cheap around $400 depending on the specs you are after an use

Hello, I have recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 on my Pavillion Notebook, which is a dv6700, with product number KW097EA#UUW, and with an AMD processor. Its bios version is F.34, and I would like to know if it's the latest bios. Unfortunately I cannot find my computer model on the website, so I'm needing your help. Also, will the latest bios allow me to install more ram? I currently have 2GB.

A:Latest bios update help (dv6700)

Hi: Yes, F.34 is the latest BIOS version and if you have that installed, good. I am going to save you from having to strip your notebook for parts and tossing it in the trash if you try to flash the BIOS after you installed Windows 7. DON'T FLASH THE BIOS IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED WINDOWS 7. There will be a 100% chance of totally bricking your notebook if you do. Below is the link to the support and driver page for your specific notebook model. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3717145&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=228&query=KW097EA&sw_lang=&tool= As long as the BIOS in your PC is at F.27 or newer, there is no reason that you can't install 4 GB of memory in your notebook right now. I have a dv6810us with the same hardware as yours and I am running W7 64 bit with 4 GB of memory (2 x 2GB of PC2-6400), and it works just fine. If you ever need to flash the BIOS (which you shouldn't ever need to), you will need to reinstall Vista, flash it, and reinstall W7.
