T460p Access Connections editing/creating location profiles disabled

Q: T460p Access Connections editing/creating location profiles disabled

Hi, I have T460p/Windows 7 x64 with Access Connections 6.26.80 installed. Laptop is not on domain, users are part of Administrators group.Access Connections worked for some time fine - new networks were detected and location profiles could be created, edited or deleted without any problems.Buttons for Create/Edit/Delete profile suddently became disabled (probably after some Lenovo update) and I am not able to get this program working normally again.I've tried several things:- ticked checkbox for non-admin users to be able to edit location profiles, but this did not help. - uninstalled AC, reboot, installed again (installation was done using admin account)...but no success, everything is the same - I cannot add or edit location profiles even I am operating as admin user,- tried with previous AC versions (79) and newer versions (85) - but again no luck. I could uninstall it and not use it again, but to use some other simillar software. But since the laptop has WWAN, now I am not able to use it, since I have no possibility to add or configure WWAN network access. Also I am not able to create WLAN hotspot. I have no idea what to do else, except to reinstall Windows again, but it could happen again...so that is not actual solution to this problem. Anyone had this issue? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is the moment AC makes all the profiles as read-only.Now to restore Access Connections functions, I've tried several things:- ticked checkbox for non-admin users to be able to edit location profiles, but this did not help (all the profiles are still disabled, and even the new profiles are disabled from the start).- uninstalled AC, reboot, installed again (installation was done using admin account)...but no success, everything is the same - I cannot add or edit location profiles even I am operating as admin user,- tried with previous AC versions (79, 85) and new version (88) - but again no luck. But since th... Recently my computer got infected with a Backdoor and a trojan. Advertisement websites continously popped up. My registry editing, task manager, right-click, internet editing were all disabled.

I've read an old thread in this forum that seemed to have to same problem I do : http://forums.techguy.org/security/512631-solved-right-button-half-working.html . But the thing is that Regfix.reg does NOT even work. I guess the spyware/virus also did something to the Notepad.

I already got rid of the spyware. No advertisements appear anymore, the computer returns to its normal speed. However, many functions such as task manager, registry, right-click, internet options still don't work.

Please help me out with this!

I have about 40 users that log into a terminal server. I need to enable TLS 1.0 in their Internet Explorer's Advanced settings tab. They currently do not have the rights to do this themselves. I could open up the group policy and either take over control of their session and make the change or let them do it themselves and then lock down the policy again or maybe edit their login script.

These are 2 options I don't really want to pursue. Is there any other way I can checkbox TLS 1.0 in all of the user's Internet Explorer settings?

Thanks!

This has never happened to me personally, but at the place where I work, it seems to happen quite often and no one know why.

When someone logs into their computer, Windows has created a new (default) user profile. The profile is usually;
username.domain
or if it has happened at least once before;
username.domain.000;
if it has happened twice before;
username.domain.001
and so on.

Of course, since it has happened many times before, we know how to "restore" the profile via regedit by pointing ProfileImagePath to the correct profile folder and having the user reboot. My question is, why does this happen?

The original thought was that the company's security software was the culprit. But, when it happened on computers that did not have that software, we started to second guess that. Also, when we had someone who joined our team from another company say that it was happening on the computers at his former company and they did not have the security software, we knew that it could not be that. So, we thought that it may be tied to the domain since it was mostly happening on laptops, but then it started happening on desktops that are always connected.

Per Microsoft (in this article), the issue happens when a user loses Full Control permission. Of course, it does not say how a user could lose Full Control permission. While I can imagine someone losing permission by changing the settings themselves, I highly doubt that this is the case.

Machine owner did the free upgrade from 7 to Windows 10 believing it would solve the hardware problems he's been having; plus the whole "it's free" deal. Software doesn't fix failing hardware, so I'm having to upgrade/replace the hardware. I had planned to do a clean install of 7 and figured on an easy rebuild but now I am having to figure out 10 technicalities. I like to go over everything before jumping in.

Machine owner upgraded Windows 10 Pro with Local Account.

I had Windows 7 setup with User Profiles on secondary harddrive (F: drive) to avoid filling up the SSD C: drive. I found that Windows 10 upgrade appears to have reset the User Profile location to C: and the old Admin account appears to be permanently hidden. Windows 7 was setup with an Admin account and Power User account. While old data is staying in the F: folders, anything new is getting put on C:

So, I'm trying to figure out how to setup 10. I saw the tutorial about setting up User accounts during install and after (I will have to read it more thoroughly). It mentions that doing the profile move after may affect the start menu and search function?... Regardless, I'm stuck trying to figure this out.

Tell me if I'm wrong. I can rename the current F: drive User folders prior to install. Do the "during install" move creating new User Profile folders. Then move the old folder data to the new User folders?

Better were to back up the user data to external storage and wipe the disk, use Method One in above mentioned tutorial to clean install Windows 10 relocating the Users folder, then copy user data from external backup to new user folders.

Setting image up as a primary OS partition that houses OS, apps, and profiles, but I want to have all users data be saved in respective user specific folders on the D drive. Okay so I've got a challenging problem. I didn't know where I could find help and then I remembered the forum here and signed up...

So a long time ago (I barely remember how except I went to the registry) I moved my User folder from my SSD Drive C:\User\Username to my hardrive under just B:\username (which might have been my first mistake).

That was working just fine until I tried to install one program. It drove me crazy why it kept saying it didn't have permissions. I realized the program had trouble being installed in non-default admin user profiles. So I said, fine. I really need this. I'll put my userfolder back in my C:/drive and just change the locations of all the folders in there to my B drive.

I edited the registry like several guides said (I must have used one of them the first time). Nothing worked. At one point I almost left myself without a user profile, but I managed to restore it. I'm back where I started but I noticed several things:

- I messed up my permissions and read me stuff for my User folder (some programs say they can't create stuff there). Is there a way to reset those? My restore points don't go back enough.

- If I create a new user profile, it doesn't exist. When I log on it logs me onto a temporary one and there is no sign it was ever created (in the Computer or the Advanced User Profile Settings). I tried editing the registry (the one that sets where new user profiles are created), but it didn't work so I put it back.

- I'm missing my Defa... Read more

Perhaps a script of some sort or an application that I am not aware of???  Appreciate all the help I can get

Some things to note:
-these machines will not be on a domain.  The organization has chosen a local account setup.
-All these machines have a small set of apps, settings, and links that stay the same except for the email accounts which will be via 365.

-The machines will have a dozen role based user names that repeat per site (ie: leader, logistics, planner, reception, etc).  So this should make some consistency if a script was used for say the usernames,, just slight changes f... Read more

I have my laptop hard drive partitioned as 3 separate simple volumes.

The largest partition contains WinVista and programs. The second partition contains all my data files (D drive). I've got the Documents link pointing to D:\users\don\Documents. I've got got an automated backup that backs up the entire contents of my D drive nightly.

Now the question is how can I make it so that when a new user is created, the new user has the same settings?

Im after a program for editing Audio files. I have played around with Cool Edit but find it isnt very friendly. i can never seem to be able to do basic functions that i would expect from an audio editing program. i also want a program that i can use to creat audio files. i had a friend who had a great program where you had multi tracks and could choose an instrament and set it to play what ever note u want and then mix it all together. sadly i have fallen out of contact with him, and cant remember what the program is called. does anyone have any suggestions on a program that would do such functions? thanx

The other thing i wanted to ask about (i didnt want to start two threads). is my tv capture program has messed up. it was working fine untill all of a sudden when i open it, it takes a freeze frame of the selected channel, keeps it on screen with no audio, and then ends up "not responding". the program is called VisionTV . i doubt people would know it. but can anyone think of a reason as to why this problem maybe occuring? i want to get a different program to use, as this one isnt very good. but is it true that these programs are specific to the tvcapture card that they come bundeled with? thanx guys

Hello,
Is it just me or has the rules for inserting the cursor into text changed?? Im a developer and constantly clicking to insert code between other code. When click to set the cursor position it seems to always insert to the left of the charactor.  It seemed previous OS's if you clicked from the center of a char to the left it insert behind, and if you select to the right of centre of the char it inserts to the right.
It seems to me that if i click anywhere left of the far rigt of a charactor (to the right of centre) it inserts before the char, instad of after.  This means i either have to change te way i work to *always* select the char to the right of where i want to insert, or be ver precise and double check where i've inserted the cursor.
It just frustrates me when i click to insert some text, say, into a html element (after the >), then i find i've typed the text within the html element (before the >). i.e. <tdSome Text> instead of <td>Some Text.
Is this just me??

You have to open Registry Editor

Go to Start > Run > Type 'Regedit' and hit return

This will bring up the editor - from here search the thousands of registries for the one you want.

WARNING - this is pretty much the makeup of XP be careful about changing anything!

Hi,

My company recently moved to a new location and I was having everyone change their email signature in Outlook. Unfortunately, 2 of the employees were unable to select anything in their email options. They are both using Outlook 2003 SP2 Small Business Edition. When I tried changing it is has the current signature option but the drop down to change between the sigs is gray and the box to edit isn't available. I also tried to change it within the email itself by right clicking on the current signature and selecting the option but that is also all grayed out. The only benefit in this screen is it will actually let me choose between the different sigs currently available, but still won't let me edit or create a new one. Has anyone else had this problem or know a way of fixing it?

I have not added an email account to Outlook 2010 in a very log time. But, after a switch to a new ISP I created the necessary email accounts and found Outlook insisted on putting them in the'D:\My Documents\Outlook' folder. I don't want them there.

What do I need to do to change the default creation folder location?

Thank you very much?

A solution could be that you take the files that outlook created in your present outlook directory and after making sure that outlook is closed. Copy all the files in that directory to your directory of choice..
Then go into the file location in outlook and add them to your email userid.

Then after closing oulook and restarting it, check to see that the files are correct in the file location in your userid selection.

Other than that, you can delete the present userid and create a new one where you get to change the location of the files.

Hope this is not confusing..

Hi,

As most people here I need some help. I noticed my internet was running slow so I checked my firewall (Commodo) and noticed that there were upwards of 1,200 svchost outbound connections. I immediately blocked all traffic and ran Mbam and Commodo AV - with no results. I then did some searching and downloaded Xoftspy (no results), Ad-aware (no results) and Hijack This.

I am running XP Home, 2002, Service Pack 3.

Can someone with more knowledge than I, analyze my HJT log (any help is greatly appreciated):

Hi Folks,

Last night I was surfing the Internet, and I picked up some malware. I was running MacAfee Virus Enterprise and Antispyware Enterprise 8.5.0i at the time, but I still picked it up. I am running XP Service Pack 3 on a Dell Optiplex GX620. The malware kept giving me tons of messages saying that my machine was infected with spyware. I did not download/click any of the suggested links. I did, however, install Windows Defender which I was not able to update. I then installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which seemed to work. However, when I ran it a second time, it stated that some temp files and some registry entries were bad, but it could not delete them. I tried to delete the registry entries myself, and I got the message "Registry Editing Has Been Disabled By Your Administrator". I have tried several methods to get around this problem that I have seen on the web, but none seem to work for me. I have tried the "UnhookExec.inf", the "regtools.vbs" program, the "RegistryFix.exe" program and the "gpedit.msc" solution that are around on the web. None seem to work. I have used HijackThis to try and remove/fix the 07...DisableRegedit=1 line in the registry, but it is still there if I run HijackThis again (with or without rebooting). I am at a loss. Can you please help me?

I also had other problems like not having a Folder Options in the Control Panel, and not having access the Windows Task manager. I erased a lot of temporary... Read more

Update: I used Advanced System Optimizer and was able to delete a little more spyware. I also discovered that when I deleted the registry lock statement with HijackThis in safe mode, it actually got deleted. So now, I can use regedit again!!! If only I could get the Windows screen border around the task manager information when I hit Cntl+Alt+Del, then I would be in business. Thanks.

A:Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator ?

Are you logged in as an Administrator user? Or as a limited user? If admin user, Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Log into the Built In Administrator account (not administrator user). Now go to Start/Run and type regedit. If that works, then create a new user with admin rights, restart the computer and log in as the new user. Go to Start/Run and type regedit. If that works then copy all of your files from your old profile into the new one and just use that one.

A:registry editing has been disabled by administrator.

Are you using a antivirus or other type of security suite?
Some of them will disable access to certain admin features as a safety precaution.
If this is the case you should be able to regain access through the configuration settings of that application.

Okay, I'm helping a nontechnical friend with a nasty rogue antivirus, Vista Smart Security 2010.

REGEDIT is of course disabled, but this malware version has gone one step cleverer. The removal methods I've seen so far start with restoring *.exe functioning by creating a text file named something like "exefix.reg" and executing it directly to patch the registry. HOWEVER, even this fails because the malware has set a group policy to prevent THAT as well! And then of course, the malware pulled up the ladder behind itself, so that you can't find or edit that policy, even logged in Safe Mode. Is there some other way, short of OS reinstall, to restore enough function to get legitimate removal tools working?

A:All means of registry editing disabled

Please refer to these removal instructions posted here. Once you have gone through these instructions, please post your malwarebytes log.

Create a folder called HJT either in C: or My documents or some place convienient and place the hijackthis.exe in there.
This will ensure we have back ups made and it doesn't get deleted .

i cannot edit the registry from my administrator account. is it a default setting in windows 7 or something is wrongly configured???. if wrongly configured then what to do to enable it???thanks in advance!!

A:registry editing disabled from administrator account

That's not entirely true,, and this may be a band-aid,,, but not a resolution to this issue.

Yes, You can edit the registry from you Account that is Admin.
You do not need to enable the (so called) Super Admin account.

Either the User you are logging in with is not an Admin, or it is Corrupt, or there is another problem.

Your first solution should be.... create a New User with Admin rights.
logon with that user and try editing the registry again.
If that works, then either the other user is not an admin, or the profile is corrupt.

If it doesn't work, then you need to try sfc /scannow

If that doesn't work, then personally, I would suggest backup data, NuKe and Reload the OS.
If rights or womething else to Regedit are broken, there is no telling what else might be,, safe to start over than try to patch and fix repeatedly.

Hey

When non administrative user login the message "registry editing has been disabled by your administrator" occurs at startup for no apparent reason. when the message is shut the computer runs fine

When i then login as the administrator the registry editor does not open. and the registry editor is however still able to be opened.

As stated the message seems to occur for no reason? How do i stop this occuring or why is it occuring.
Thankyou

Try the fix at Kelly's Korner.Lift Restrictions - TM, Regedit and CMD - #275 on the left.Right click on it and save the .vbs file to your desktop. Then, double click on the file icon (on your desktop) to run the script. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect. With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT.

Hi All,

Whenever I start any geolocation apps like map and any other. its say you don't have permission.

Your location can not be found. Change your permissions in Setting to allow Maps to access your location.

When I goto setting of MAP app to give the permission it says -

Apps can't use your location. To Allow apps to use your location info, go to PC Setting.

When I goto "PC Setting" > Privacy > Location - its disabled. Gray out

Please help me out. What should I do??

Thanks,
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/429543

A:Setting > Privacy > Location is disabled.

Hello all,

Found solution well Thanks,
Let me share with you all.  if Location is gray out you need to do following two thing
1-  Control Panel > hard ware and Sound > Location setting

check the turn on the Windows Location platform.

2.  goto "Services.msc" and check if "Windows Location framework Service" should be Auto started.  right click the service > properties > Start type="Automatic"

and its done.. and if you open the map it will work or change that app permission.

Hey all. I have a question concerning bridging network connections on a Windows XP desktop computer. There is a bit of a backstory, so bear with me. I have a desktop computer connected to a DSL modem through the Wi-Fi router. It's not really in a place where cabling is efficient, so I use the desktop to connect other computers to the internet through Windows' "bridge connection" option in the connection settings. While I am able to successfully bridge the Ethernet port to my Wi-Fi adapter, and out to the internet, I am trying to do something that I haven't found many resources on, and I am not sure how possible it is.

I have some older computers that require I connect them to a Dial-up phone line (and a few more modern ones that have the option along with ethernet that I am curious to test out) and I can't seem to figure out how to connect the older computer with the dial-up connection to the desktop's dial-up modem, bridge that to the wi-fi adapter, and provide it with internet access that way?

If this is possible in windows XP, I would love to do it. If you need any extra information, I am glad to provide it. Thanks in advance!

A:Creating a network bridge using Windows XP to connect Dial-Up and DSL connections?

IF it is possible (and I doubt it) you will likely need a null modem to connect the two dial up modems.

Yesterday, each of the wireless devices on my network one by one lost connectivity. More specifically, Windows cannot configure this wireless connection, but it is specified in active directory to use the wireless zero config. The first one that came in I thought it must be corrupt drivers. The second one that came in didn't even get me suspicious, but then slowly they all fell off. Eset, malwarebytes, thirtyseven4, emco, didn't detect anything, dial-a-fix didn't touch it, and when I download msert (they all have wired network working) and it says this version has expired for your computer but my clock and date are correct. I am not sure where to go now.Edit: Moved topic from Breaking Virus & Security News to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal
