Solved: Can i charge my USB hot spot by plugging it in the cell phone charger?

Q: Solved: Can i charge my USB hot spot by plugging it in the cell phone charger?

I recently bought a wireless 3G USB modem / hot spot. Although i use it primarily by plugging in my PC USB port, It just occurred to me that my smartphone charger also has a USB port. So i was wondering if i can use the modem by using the charger USB port or not. That way i will not have to keep my PC powered on all the time. My charger has a output rating of 5V and 830mA. I reckon there shouldn't be a problem but want to be sure lest i damage the modem.

EDIT: The title should read 'Power' instead of 'Charge'. Apologies for any confusion caused !!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Everyone! :-) This is my first time posting at this forum.  I have a Lenovo T520 laptop that is experiencing intermittent problem shutting down when I am trying out brand new 9-cell and 6-cell batteries that are fully charged.  Based on the seller instruction; they said to go into the bios to see if there is a battery resync option and/or charge the battery with the laptop powered off for a minimum of 10hrs before using the new battery.  I followed their instructions but the laptop continued to suddenly powered off while I am using it with a fully charged battery.   Has anyone experiences similar issues and know of any troubleshooting method or fixes?  Of course I first naturally expects the battery to be bad, but I bought 2x 9-cell batteries, the seller then send me an additional 2 x 6-cell batteries because I am having problems with the 9-cell.  The 6-cell also resulted with the same symptom so I find it hard to believe that all 4 batteries are bad.   Here is the info on the batteries I purchased:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/9Cell-Battery-for-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T410-T420-T510-T520-SL410-SL510-E420-E425... Thank you in advance for anyone that can help me to resolve this problem. Best,Vinh Le

A:New OEM 9-cell & 6-cell batteries causes laptop to suddenly shutdown with full charge

Hello and welcome,

I can't say with certainty what is going on - but those aren't OEM (Lenovo) batteries.  They are unbranded generics from who-knows-where.

I'm always suspicious of non-OEM batteries and their internal control electronics.

I have purchased an old Compaq Armada 7400 Notebook. I am wanting to connect it to my cell phone to access the internet, but I have no clue as to what hardware I need, or how to go about it. Does anyone know about this subject, or of any helpful links?

Thanks in advance! Oh, another problem is that this laptop only has one bay which can hold EITHER the floppy drive OR the DVD/CDROM drive at a time....SO...how in the heck could you wipe it and do a clean OS install, when removing one of the drives while booted locks the thing up?

A:Solved: Connecting Laptop To A Cell Phone?

Ok, what you will need to do is make sure that your armada has an IR port, and that your mobile has one as well. You will need to go to the website of your Mobile phone manufacturer and see if they have the software to support connectivity this way.
And you can do a clean install using the CD media that your Operating system comes on. It's not necessary to boot from a floppy first, as the Cds should be bootable.

As noted in the subject line I dropped my cell phone in a pool of water today (the case slipped off my belt while I was playing with the dog) and it was a while before I noticed it sitting in the pool. I immediately removed the battery and the phone is now drying out.

First question: how long should I wait before trying to power it again?

Second question: if it will not power up either on battery or plug is it worth trying to get it repaired? I hate the idea of paying someone to look at it if its not likely to be repairable but I also hate the idea of simply junking it.

I want a phone that does these 2 things extremely well. High quality audio and texting technology.

1. Superior high quality audio. That includes a microphone, and a dynamic audio range speaker. As well as the means to transfer the voice data effectively.
2. Advanced texting program. I want the software to make sense, user tested. I don't want any delays, I want the backspace button to work immediately, I don't want my messages accidentally sending either. I don't want a full qwerty keyboard either. I can text just as fast with the numeral keyboard, with the auto-fill key strokes as well as saving the word to the phones dictionary.

Other important basics: Long battery life, which should be easily attainable with the stripped basic/advanced features. (some say bluetooth and camera are now basic features). Phone should be durable, buttons not easily broken, screen not easily scratched, easy to remove battery and sim card.
That's it! I don't want internet, bluetooth, camera, voice record or commands, usb port, flashlight, etc - IF: it interferes with the first 2 things I want.

I think a key problem with this is that it is 'few and far in-between' with people who would want this. Maybe demand isn't high enough.

Do you agree or disagree? Would you use this phone?

I wanted to transfer my pics/videos from my Motorola phone (Verizon carrier) to my PC. It was suggested on this site that I buy Motorola Phone Tools, that this software would do the job. I also talked with Verizon to make sure it would do the trick. But when I got the software I was unable to transfer any pic/video. So I called Motorola for help. I found out Verizon prohibits Motorola from configuing their phone software to transfer pics/videos.

I surmized the reason Verizon prohibits this particular function is they want to make people pay messaging charges to get pics/videos from phone to pc. Because everytime you send a pic/video from your phone it is considered a message. The Motorola tech said almost all carriers they provide phones to prevent pic/video transfers using MPT. So be sure to ask your carrier first if they allow the phone you buy (not just Motorola) to work with its respective phone software. Then call the phone manufacturer to make sure you were given the correct info.

By the way you can transfer pics using Verizon two ways.

One-send pic/video as "message" to your email-then transfer from email to pc.

Two-send pic/video to your Verizon account that offers a pic/video gallery to accept your "messages". It offers some options such as word bubbles and picture altering. To get to your pc you just copy/paste to you pc.

So a warning to all those who might be considering purchasing MPT to work with Verizon and most other carriers. If you... Read more

Hi I've been using my X220i for the last 3 years or so and decided to upgrade to an i7 X230 a few days ago. After a few days of no problems, using the same charger I've been using on my X220 (the 90w slim travel charger) I plugged it in to charge while the laptop was powered on. The laptop powered off instantly and now it will not power on again. There are no status lights visible and nothing happens when I plug it in. I have done all the steps of removing the battery and pressing the power button etc and on putting the battery back in the fingerprint sensor light was flickering orange - it is now back to no signs of life at all again other than the left side of the palmrest gets hot when I insert the battery. I am strongly suspecting a fault with the charger fried the motherboard when I plugged it in but am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions before i try to make a claim within my remaining 1 week of warranty. Thnaks

I don't know if this is the right forum but I thought I'd start here.

I have a Motorola Entice W766.

I currently have pictures and video I took with the phone located in the phone's internal memory.

When I click on the mobile phone icon in vista, the device is listed as "V CAST Moblile Phone-Internal Memory". I can see the music files I uploaded from my computer to my phone via usb cable using vcast/rhapsody. But there are no picture or video files listed even though I know they are there because I can view them on my phone.

I did set all files and folders to not hidden using vista.

So, how in the heck do I find the files? And then, how do I transfer them to my pc?

Any help appreciated.

That means your display driver is not usable for windows 8 and windows 8.1. I would advise you to download and install Windows 7 display driver in compatibility mode and review if it helps.
There are few steps to set up window 7 display driver

Install & download display driver
Right click on the driver & go the properties
Select compatibility’ tab and test the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and click Windows 7 operating system from the drop down.
Finally click on button ”apply” then “ok” and run the file to install it

The past few days, my laptop has been freezing after about 20 minutes (lately the amount of time has been decreasing to now about 15 minutes). First it would only freeze if it went idle but now it's freezing randomly. It would only freeze when I plug in my charger.

I replaced my adapter to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I also tried changing my set up so that my computer wouldn't sleep but still, it would freeze. I also launched CCleaner to try and clean up my registry and though it did fix up some problems, yes once again, my laptop would freeze.

I installed several anti-virus/malware programs as well but none of them seemed to work. They wouldn't detect anything through quick scan but once I try full scan, it would freeze. I tried going into safe mode, but before making it in, my laptop would stop and go into regular mode. And just a few minutes ago, I got the blue screen of death.

Please help!

Hi, my new Acer V Nitro laptop makes a short, beep tone (coming from the speakers) when I plug and unplug the charger. I have read online that it is due to the driver and/or BIOS and I have done everything to disable it (installing new driver, searching for options in sound menu of Windows, going into the BIOS settings...). Finally, I have found the solution: deactivating the autostart of Realtek Audio driver on Windows start. Do you think that it is normal to hear this tone? I have completely reinstalled Windows and the tone finally reappeared (only after installing all updates). Thanks,

In the System Sounds, there is an option for device connect or disconnect. This will probably do what you want. You will have to assign a sound for those functions.

Hi All My Elitebook 850 battery recently stopped holding charge.  I took the battery out, and the AC Charger still provided power so was able to use without battery.  I then purchased a new battery.  Now, the AC charger won't show charging on the new battery, but when I take the battery out, I can use the laptop without the battery. When the new battery is installed, it doesn't say anything like "plugged in, not charging," it just says nothing at all.  But obviously the charger works as it powers without the battery in. Have tried uninstalling the drivers in Windows through Device Manager > Batteries > Uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Battery Method + Uninstall AC Adaptor, with no result.  Turned the computer off, took the battery out, then powered up without battery, uninstalled the drivers, powered back off, reinstalled the battery, powered back up off residual charge in the new battery, with drivers reinstalled, still no luck. Anyone have any thoughts?  Please and thank you. Mike

Tried checking the charger, it smelled a little burnt on the blue end with the pin and also on the charging port. Hello, I justed started having the following problem with my laptop (P# L3Y43AV) When my laptop is on, if I plug in my charger, it doesn't acknowledge that it's plugged in AND my battery doesn't charge. The AC Adapater / Battery Light will either be white (not blinking) to signify the batter is charged OR will become white and blinking to signify the battery is starting to get low. However, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't register anything. When I turn my laptop off OR put it in sleep mode, the power light turns Amber to signify the battery is charging. I decided to test it and let it fully charge, and to my surprise, the light eventually turned white. When I turned my laptop on, the battery was fully charged BUT as soon as I turned my laptop back on, it didn't register the charger (the charger was plugged in) I've tried just about everything I could think of / find online. A) I let the battery drain itself completely. Well, my HP laptop charger is not working so I tried to charge with a Dell charger I had and it worked.

Now reading in the internet, I read that it might be dangerous especially since I am using less amps than specified. The specs of the 2 chargers are as follows:

HP Charger: 19 V, 4.74 A
Dell Charger: 19.5 V, 4.62 A

I read that the voltage difference should not cause a problem but using a lower Amp capacity charger than the original might. Will this small difference matter or can I still use the charger?

Thanks

A:Can I use my Dell Charger to charge my HP Laptop?

In a word... Yes. As long as the Dell chargers connector fits snugly and it doesn't get too hot, it should be fine

I was wondering since my Spectre x360 charges with USB-C could I just charge it with any USB-C cable and plug it into a car charger?
