My HP Pavilion dv7-3028ca laptop needs a new battery. The current battery won't hold a charge, so the machine cannot operate. I had the problem diagnosed by the Geek Squad service at Best Buy. I went to the HP parts website to search and order the replacement but the website generated a message that the replacement battery was no longer available. Help!!! I need to get the laptop up and running again. Do you know where I can order a replacement battery online (e.g a website with the battery in stock)? If the battery has been discontinued, is there a compatible battery on the hp parts website that I can use as a replacement? Thanks for any help or advice you can provide!! Peter
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have observed that the laptop does not shut down completely even after shutting it down. I see a flickering light besides the charging port. The power off and power on is happening normally, but after power off, I can see the battery being drained as well as flickering lights. I checked all the power options / actions and they are appropriately set. What else can cause this? How do I ensure that the laptop is shut down completely.Read other answers

I am trying to find a replacement battery for My Sony Vaio VGN-FZ 180N. I have found quite a few on ebay as seen in the below link.
However, they are all saying that the battery will not work if the computer is running windows 7. I am definitely wanting upgrade from Vista to W7. It's quite funny that each post on ebay has simple grammatical errors and all of their replies to my questions were the same.
What about this Battery: http://www.buy.com/prod/battery-for...-vgn-fz18-vgn-fz180e/q/loc/101/219129390.html
Can someone tell me if this is not going to work or there is a battery that will work with this Sony and W7. Thanks.

Hi, Voltage is the main concern. 71W in theory will run longer between charge and 48W will run shorter. Given they are compatible, I would go for 71W battery (probably more expensive). Regards.Read other 1 answers

I am looking at options to replace a battery in an HP Pavilion dm-1xxx series laptop, specically dm4-1050ea and dm4-1164nr and dm4-1150ea, but I am confused over battery compatibility. The HP manual, HP Pavilion dm4 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide (http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02615687.pdf) gives 9-cell, 93-WH (2.80-Ah) Li-ion : 593550-001 6-cell, 55-WH (2.55-Ah) Li-ion : 553594-001 6-cell, 62-WH (2.80-Ah) Li-ion : 593562-001 so any of these 3 are interchangeable between the -1050ea and the -1150ea ? no, it seems not - read on.... but I see that in the manual for the dm4-1164nr (also the M&S Guide for dm4-1140sa and dm4-1150ea, I now learn), also titled The HP manual, HP Pavilion dm4 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03106715), that while the lower rated batteries have the same p/n, the higher rated on is described as9-cell, 100-WH (3.0-Ah) Li-ion : 636631-001 Are these two 9-cell batteries interchangeable, ot not ? They must have physically the same form because they both accept the same lower rated batteries and also have the same elec. spec - 10.8V ? If they not compatible, can I be instructed as to why not ? The section of my adapter has frayed near the point where it plugs in and I have to practically baby it to keep it charging. This is a huge problem, especially considering that I'm planning to go off to college soon. There's so many counterfeits on the market, and I'm afraid that I may get one that'll just give me grief. In middle of the school year I may not even have enough to buy a new cord, so this is a big deal for me.
Yes, I have looked it up and what came up were forums about how to avoid counterfeits, which served to confuse me. While they recommend that buyers should avoid "marketplace" retailers like Amazon, Sears and Ebay, they don't exactly say where exactly to go. There's a bunch of shady websites besides these retailers and I'm not really finding anything too solid at a more legitmate distribution channel...
Of course I'm willing to spend some money. It's just that the 40-70$ price tag I've been seeing for the cord on relatively trustworthy sites seems steep, especially considering that I got the laptop (power cord incl.) for 200$ a few years back. It hasn't given me any trouble, but it's hard to justify spending ~25% of its original value on a cord. I want to spend something from 20 to 30$.
Thanks for the help!

Lenovo does not actually make the power supplies themselves, they buy them from the manufacturer shown below (taken from page 87 of Lenovo G50-45 Hardware Maintenance Manual) , so just about any quality 45Watt/20Volt/25 Amp adapter will work, but some of them, as you noted, are not very well made. i have a ibm thinkpad 600E. my cd rom has suddenly stopped working. everytime i put a cd rom into the drive, a message comes back that the drive is not ready. some people have mentioned that perhaps the lens that reads whether a cd rom has been installed has worn out and i may need to replace the whole cd rom. does anyone have any suggestions on how i may be able to get my existing cd rom repaired or replaced?
My first thought is that the 600E came with a 3-year warrenty. You may be able to get this replaced under warrenty and save yourself some expence. Try calling the following number, it will put you in contact with IBM EasyServ: 800-772-2227. You will need your serial and model number (they are located under the machine on a small decal with a barcode on it). If it is still under warrenty, they will arrange to have the unit sent in for repair. They usually are very fast and you should have the computer back in three days or less.
If it is not, you should be able to buy a new one directly from IBM, the part number is 05k9068. You may also buy one here http://www.acsparts.com/thinkpads/thinkpad_data/cdroms.html, but the part number will be 05k9067. You could also shop around in the internet, these should be available from several sources.
Sorry, that part number was for the DVD drive, the par number for the CDROM is: 05k8994
Recently Micro$oft made changes to hotmail. One of the features they removed (that they called an 'improvement'), was the ability to delete junk mail immediately.
It was one of the few features that attacted me to hotmail. I could set it to delete everything sent to me from anyone that wasn't in my safe senders list. I needed to do this for what I feel are important personal reasons.
I could sign up for dozens of free email services, looking for one that provides the same service - few of them give a comprehensive overview of their features.
I am wondering if anyone knows of a free email provider like hotmail, that has the feature to delete all email send from someone not in a safe senders list.

You might be better off using the same battery as the one you had before, simply for the sake of reliability.
It also will depend on what you use this laptop for.

There are quite a few AM2 HSFs still available. But you must specify your budget and also determine whether your case will house those that are available.
Check out this page.
First off, apologies ff this is the wrong board for this post. I figured I had a problem with a graphics card, and should post it here. Overclocking and case mods may be more appropriate, possibly?
Anyway, I was cleaning the dust from the fan and heat sink on my n460gtx Cyclone. I wasn't being particularly careful and managed to loose one of the small screws that holds the fan to the heat sink. I'm guessing it fell between gaps in the flooring. So now I have 2/3 screws, and don't really want to run the card with only 2 holding the fan down as its likely to cause a whole lot of noisy vibration. I'm thinking I might have to start visiting some computer repair stores in the hope they have a similar screw, or as a last resort email MSI customer service or even just make do with 2/3 screws.
It will be fine with 2 tight screws. In the meantime, also check your local goodwill. I`m serious, I used to rip apart and build them computers. They get tons of old parts.Read other 1 answers

Hi everyone, this is my first post on HP's forums. I created an account just for this issue, hopefully I don't break any rules. I have a Pavilion DV7t-6b00 running Windows 7 32-bit. My laptop's fan has always been extremely noisy, constantly running, and pretty hot as almost everyone who has purchased this laptop has observed, and I recently came across this potential fix: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HOW-TO-FIX-DV7-FAN-OVERHEATING-...Essentially it requires having up-to-date BIOS and then adjusting a fan setting, which I'm completely capable of doing on my own IF I could access the most recent version of BIOS for my system (assuming there's a more recent version available for my system, I'm not sure). The trouble is when HP identifies my laptop (which it identified correctly as far as I can tell) and it shows the list of available drivers and what not, they're all 64-bit versions, with no 32-bits available. I'm unsure if this simply means there isn't a 32-bit available, or if HP misidentified my operating system. When I gave the site my OS it didn't ask for clarification on 32/64 bit, it just wanted to know if I was running Vista/7/8/10 etc.I called HP and eventually got to a point where I was told I'd have to pay $50 to connect to the next level of tech support, which I think is ridiculous considering I'm not asking to "baby'd" through the process of updating my BIOS, I'm sure I can figure it out on my own; I simply need the... This seems like a basic question but I cannot find the answer. I have a 'HP Pavilion Notebook15-ab292nr (Touch)'. I want a replacement fan. I go to any site for replacement parts, and they are talking about Pavilion G4, G5, G7, etc, and then sub-numbers after that. I cannot figure out what 'Gx' mine is, or if I am somehow in some other set of hardware. Question - how do I figure out my 'Gx' number, and / or how can i find a replacement fan? thanks much -
The manual on page 56 shows Part # 806747-001 for the replacement fan.The manual also has detailed removal/replacement instructions. You can buy from HP Partsufer or you can Google the part # to find other sources. If you found my answer helpful please say thanks by clicking on the Thumb's Up icon. @stardisplays Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out As I understand you want to replace the CPU Fan and require the type of fan compatible with the DV7,I will be able to provide support, although, it would be a limited support as HP doesn't recommend replacing the fan on your own as it may impact damage upon other parts, Nevertheless, to answer your question: 640903-001 (This is compatible with your series) You could also find your parts on the HP Parts store: Click here Let me know if you need any further assistance,Happy to help,Regards,Read other 1 answers

My sister's computer battery was going bad, so she went and replaced it herself. It's the simple, flat battery, just pop it out, put the new one in. She also bought a new DVD drive, so she unplugged the old one and took it out. That's all she did. And made sure she didn't shock/fry the motherboard.
Now, when you turn it on, it never boots up. It will run and the monitor will display a screen that shows that it's on, but Windows never loads. I tried putting the old DVD drive back in, the old battery back in, but it's still not working. Any ideas what might be causing this? I really don't want to tear it all apart at this point.
