Wack Sound Drivers!

Q: Wack Sound Drivers!

I got an old Inspiron 4000 Dell and installed WinXP on it. I hit the "34 Minute Hiccup" so I deleted a file named WDMA_es3.inf. I assumed this was my audio driver for my laptop. When I got XP set up there was of course no sound. When I tried to install the ESS Maestro 3i driver my computer wouldn't start up so I removed the drivers in safe mode. The sound card should be an ESS Maestro 3i or something like that. Are there any other drivers I could use? any response would really help. Thanks in advance!!!

Preferred Solution: Wack Sound Drivers!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

hey guys,

so here's the deal, I was going to play some League Of Legends with my brother and forgot I hadn't installed ventrillo yet so I did that and then I hooked up my headphones and started talking to him. however he couldn't hear me so I went to control panel and the ventrillo settings and started changing some settings around until he could hear me...we never found a solution and now my sound on my computer is messed up and I can't hear anything. I was just wondering if there was any way I could set the settings back to default or something? because I really don't understand this whole audio thing
any help would be greatly appreciated,

I recently changed hardware on my pc. I did not uninstall or change anything about my hard drive, but when using it in the new pc, it kept telling me to activate windows. This was strange, never happened to me before so why now. So i go through so much
trouble trying to fix it and nothing worked. Even in settings under activation blah blah, it still wouldn't let me activate because "the servers were down". ok. So i call Microsoft support, and he keeps trying to get me to repurchase windows 10.
No. Bad customer service  rep. He did not help at all just made me do everything i already did and  when it said the servers were down, he told me its because i don't have a legit license. I downloaded windows 10 when it was free in 2016 or whenever.
So i never got a product key. So I used to windows 10 installer tool and it seemed to work, the watermark was gone. but later that day when i came home it was back. Then i tried the activation again and it worked. This was incredibly frustrating and annoying.
so i wanted to leave negative feedback to windows/microsoft. But i dont have the feedback hub, so i go to windows store and try to search bnut the search function doesnt work. I dont know why i thought any other windows app would be easy to use after everything
i just experienced. I have no question. This isnt about windows 8. This is the only place i found to try to tell microsoft anything. so tedious and annoying. yuck.

R really don't know what to do as I have tried at least 20 or 30 of the things listed if you google "fix explorer.exe." Just tell me what you need to know.

By the way, give me links to anything you want me to download or something.

Hi. This is gonna sound odd but every time I move my mouse real fast it goes out of control. If I don't move the mouse the cursor stays but with one little twitch and it is half-way across the screen again. This also tends to happen in Linux but Win2k is the worst. If I don't move it for about 3 seconds it goes back to normal until I move it fast again. And I am not even moving it that fast!!! Please help. Thank you.

So I did the first few times I wasnt able to find my network interface card and finally I called hp and they helped me install it correctly. Now my computer is still rebooting every hour or so. I used malwarebytes and it found nothing. I also used avast and hijackthis. Please someone help me out. I will greatly appreciate it. I will include my hijackthis report below. I hope to hear from someone soon.Btw since my reformat i have not downloaded any spyware that im aware of. sooo i dont know why it keeps doing this.I use windows xp pro service pac 2Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:35:20 PM, on 3/23/2010Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0013)Boot mode: Normal{Mod Edit:removed HJY log improperly placed~~~boopme}

But we will examine that possibility later, depending on what we find out in your next post. For the time being, I will leave your HJT data intact, rather than removing such. HJT logs are handled in one of our malware forums...rather than move you to one of those, a quick exploration of possibly system issues seems expedient in your case.Louis

I have 25 photos in an album that I had to sort out and number, then renumber as I had to delete some.
Everything works fine until I get to number 16_sun city . Then for some reason I can't figure out, it skips from number 16 to number 20. After that things go completely nuts as the pix aren't viewable in proper order. 20 is followed by 18 for example.

I did a restart of pc knowing it wouldn't do anything. It didn't. I'm stumped.
Anyone else have this problem?

Sound in windows has been giving me a hard time lately. I had to restore my registry manually via the Windows Recovery Console recently because Windows kept thinking it was in safe mode, thus preventing a repair installation from continuing. So, after restoring the registry from an earlier part of the day when the issue wasn't a problem, Windows started up fine, and everything was working as it once did. Except for sound.

The volume controls icon does not show in the taskbar. I've gone into Control Panel -> Sounds and Devices and checked the box that is supposed to place the controls in the taskbar, but to no avail. Still doesn't show up. I know that this is usually caused by incorrectly installed sound drivers, but they are installed fine and do not appear in an errored state in the device manager. I've also reinstalled the sound drivers from my motherboard's drivers disc multiple times with no change.

Oddly enough, any sounds that are supposed to be played by Windows do not play. If I open a file in Windows Media Player or in a game, the sound plays perfectly fine.

On top of that, I'm also getting trouble with recording sounds. Not just with a microphone, but even from they stereo mix channel. In Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, looking at the Voice tab, the default device for Voice Playback is blank. I set it to Realtek HD Audio Output, but when I press apply, it resets to blank. Hello. I have a MSI NF750-G55 motherboard which came with Nvidia sound drivers. Windows update even provided an update for the nvidia drivers once I connected to the internet.

However, I also know that there are Realtek sound drivers. Will my system be more stable if I just install the nvidia drivers or should I install the realtek HD drivers too? Or would having 2 sound drivers cause freezes?

I appreciate any advice. So far all my sound works great so that isn't an issue, and I don't really care about having the realtek audio manager.

A:Nvidia sound drivers, realtek drivers, or both?

Basically, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The sound is a Realtek chip on the motherboard, thus the Realtek would be the first choice, but if other supplied drivers work and you have all functions there is no need for additional drivers. The Microsoft drivers are actually Realtek drivers (but Microsoft can be several versions behind due to their validation process).

I have installed the realtek drivers and they as working but I still get nothing but a slight hiss from my speakers. I have tried them on my laptop and they work fine.

Does anybody know what might be causing this? I am half tempted to get a new sound card but I am reluctant as it says my existing one is working (it just seems to have forgotten to tell the speakers!)

If anybody knows a fix for this I really would be eternally grateful

Many thanks

Let's start by right clicking the speaker icon in your system tray and select playback devices from the options...right clik on the speakers and set as default. You can select to disable the independent headphone jacks if the speakers are plugged to the sound card. Then clik on properties and go to the levels tab at top. Set the slider to 100%. Go back to the playback devices window and select Configure button. Test the individual speakers by clicking on them one at a time.

I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.

the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!

Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.

Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.

I have tried a lot and nothing so far. Please help!

This is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the comptuer.
Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have.
Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file.
Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer.
Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected.
Its also a problem because cannot access volume control either as media controller are not installed.
Thought it might be a motherboard issue so went to download to everest and got the chipset drivers for it.
That was simple enough but when went to foxconn and installed audio drivers for the motherboard because think it runs through the motherboard foxconn P4M800P7M8 from foxconn site.
The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller.
Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues.
Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll
Then go to gxdver it dont do anything.
Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory.
In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere.

When I asked someone what I should do, they recommended that I update my sounddrivers or install new ones. So I updated my sounddrivers and everthing. It all seemed to go well during the installation process by now my sound doesn't work! PERIOD. When I go to my device manager, there's yellow question mark next to "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC", my sound driver.

Do you know what I should do next? Anyone know what my next step should be to fix this problem?? Thanks!

I recently reformatted my computer, after it went FUBAR on me, and now I am having some glitchy scrolls whenever I scroll down web pages, and I have no sound, it's the same thing that happened the last time I reformatted it, and it was like 5 months ago, so I can't remember the damned names of the drivers. Any help? I have windows xp home edition, and my graphics card is an ATI.. I remember something on the lines of CCC (Catalyst Control Center)? Does that help you any? Please get back to me quick, I've got to get to bed...

The strange part is that I am using the original driver disc with soundmax intergrated audio drivers and I redownloaded the drivers. It just makes no sound. It says there is no problem and I checked the bios. It is enabled. I then installed vista and it works. No problem it downloaded it on its own. I am running xp sp3 (which i installed drom a xp pro sp3 intergrated disc).

i thought it would be good to update my sound card drivers so i did and half way though it crashed on me so then i rebooted and i had lost sound all together! So i found the old drivers disk and trying installing them again but when windows searches for the drivers on it ..it says theres no drivers matching the device!?

So now i have no sound i removed the pci card from the computer and put it back in again but still no luck i get a "?!" on the multimedia audio controller...which is prolly the reason im getting no sound, but im not sure???

Any idears what i could try ??

Thanks ipatriot

A:Sound card ...no sound, Drivers!

You might try to remove the device from the "device Manager". Re-boot, and your system should then find your sound card and list it as a new device. Now try to re-install the driver. Is the driver "windows supported"? If so, there will be a driver on your windows disk. You can also try going to the manufacturers web site to get an up-dated driver.

I installed a driver for my sound card, only to find out that sound just wouldn't play on my laptop. (It says that the sound is playing, it's just that it isn't coming through the speakers.) I know that the drivers are updated, so if you're going to ask if my driver is updated, the answer to that is yes.

At first, I had thought that it was only a problem with the driver, or the hard drive, but that's not it... I don't know what the problem is. I've tried looking for solutions online, but absolutely nothing worked.

Can someone help me? I don't want to be stuck with the generic "High Definition Audio Device" which will just mute the speakers at the most random times.

Oh, and the sound driver that I have is "SoundMAX Integrated HD Audio", just in case anyone was going to ask.

A:No sound after installing sound drivers?

Are you using the correct HP provided sound driver? Generally, the PC Vendor's driver works or works best. Non-Vendor drivers in many cases do not work properly.

If the new driver install was recently, rollback the driver - function available in the Device Manager or use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date prior to the driver install.

A:No Sound, Which drivers may i need?

A few questtions. Do you have the driver cd that came with the MB? If so it should have Vista drivers on it. Also need to know if you are running 32bit or 64 bit. On the Asus site I don't see the M4A78-STD It lists the M4A78-SE/95/Roem/SI, and the sound as Realtek Audio V6.01.5821 ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- You should be able to install these in compatibility mode. Compatibility Mode Is the audio device listed in your device manager? Can you go device manager and click on sound devices and expand the view, then post a snip of it? A Preferred Method of Uploading/Posting Screen Shots This way we can try to force the install from update driver. Or you can try installing the latest Realtek HD driver from here Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version Thanks I'll check back. Fabe 10/7 till after Nascar race

I just realized that this is probably a better place to post this than where I previoudly had, as I didn't realize that this is where questions about drivers go. The rest is just a cut and paste from here on:

So I made a DOS boot disk today, as my computer can't really handle many of my DOS games anymore while in Windows, 'cause Windows eats up too many resources. Now, my problem is the sound drivers. I thought at first that I had solved my problem, as I went and downloaded what I thought were the correct drivers for DOS for my sound card, yet when I ran a program that needed sound in DOS the computer started just beeping, and the screen started filling with garbled intelligable text (%!&&@!$$$ type things). I disabled sound and ran the program again, and it went fine. Just to be sure, I turned the sound back on, and once again the same problem occurred. Any ideas on what I should do?

The sound card is a C-Media CMI8738/C3DX, and I had tried the DOS drivers for the C-Media CMI8738. I wasn't sure if this would cause a difference, but you never know.

And in case the installation program messed something up, my AUTOEXEC.BAT file that I run to try to use these drivers says:

Set tvdumpflags=10\C:\PCIAUD\SETAUDIO
C:\PCIAUD\C3DMIX /MFF000 /FFF000 /WFF000 /L00100 /E00100 /A00100 /C00100 /P00000 /400000 /R0f0ff /D040ff /Q0

A:DOS Sound Drivers

Anybody have any advice? The only change since the first post is that now occasionally when I try to enable sound, all I hear is a buzzing noise from the speakers whenever it does try for sound.

I just built a computer from scratch, and I am having trouble getting my sound to work. I installed the drivers from the motherboard CD, and then even updated The Realtek High Definition Audio. I still have an exclamation mark on the Realtek in device manager. I'm not too sure what is wrong. One thing that is weird is that inside the manual for building the case, there is a step for hooking up the speaker wire. I'm pretty positive that I hooked it up correctly on the motherboard, but from the motherboard, it....really doesn't go anywhere. The wire stops at some circle piece, and you are supposed to just let it rest in inside the case. I don't know if this is the problem or not, but it was just seemed wierd to me and figured you guys reading should know. Ummm, I think that's pretty much it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have just redone a laptop for someone that did not have a restore cd.
Talked to Gateway and the drivers at first i could not find for the SN# of the laptop. It kept going to a second company that is now bankrupt. Gateway could help for a fee.

I did download drivers and I still have 5 drivers that won't install.
The main one I need to work is the sound.
This is called Multimedia Audio Controller

This is a Gatway M325X
The driver they have when I try to install is Conexant AC-Link Audio and I hit ok to install.
I do not see anything running but then in a minute or 2 it pops up saying
Device driver installation complete. Device Conexant AC Link Audio Result Failure..

Any help would be appreciated.
