write protected discs

Q: write protected discs

I am trying to move tracks from my computer to mp3 player but will not let me as it is protected how can I turn the protection off

Preferred Solution: write protected discs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: write protected discs

Turn what protection off?

are the files on your HDD protected (and if so where did you get them from) or is the MP3 player protected not allowing to to copy onto it?

New dv6-7000 laptop (Win7 64-bit) has a problem I can't seem to solve:  When using any SDHC memory card you cannot write or erase files to the card.  You can read the files just fine, but you get a "Write Protected" error when trying to write or erase.   The card is, of course, not write protected, and can be written to in several other laptop/desktop SD drives that I've tried.   And I've tried different brands/sizes of SDHC cards.  Smaller capacity regular SD cards work just fine.   I tried removing this device and rebooting to reinstall the hardware, but no help. The Realtek SD Driver shows as version 6.1.7600.16385 in Device Manager properties, dated 6/20/06.  HP's support site shows a newer driver version 6.1.7601.29005 dated 2/24/12.  When I download and run sp56166.exe to update the driver, it seems to go through the update process successfully. But the driver still shows as the older version in Device Manager.  And, of course, the problem still exists.  Any ideas would be much appreciated!  Hard to believe that a new dv6 laptop can't properly write or erase files from High Capacity SDHC memory cards.   Thank you!

A:dv6-7000 can't write to SDHC cards ("write protected" error)

I understand high capacity SD cards return the message they are write protected in your system.

I take it the write protect switch is in the off/disable position on the card since they work in other systems.

What is the product number?

NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.

What brand and model is the SDHC card?

My McAfee virusscan detected the [email protected] virus. I'm unable to do anything with it (delete, clean, quarantine). I get disk is write-protected error. I try to browse to the directory it's in and I can't see it. I've changed folder settings to show hidden and system files. I'm running XP and still can't see the folder it shows up in. I've run viruscan in normal and safe mode. Still can't do anything with it. I've included my Hijackthis log.

A:[email protected] and disk is write-protected error

You are using an old version of Hijack This. You are also running HJT from your Temporary Internet Files folder. It will not function properly from there and it cannot create and restore backups from there. You need to create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Now Click here to download Hijack This again. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. Click "Save" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Can you see your optical drives in My Computer? XP only supports CD burning you will need a third party program such as IMG Burn to burn DVDs.

I have a standard Sony CD-rom and a new LG DVD writer and they are hooked up properly and I've checked all the settings. Windows detects them and says everything works properly, IDE drivers are fine, both drives will spin a disc and then stop and say there is no disc loaded. I've tried tons of different discs, they will both only read a disc if I restart with a disc already loaded but only the first time I try, after that they won't read any more period. I'm completly stumped, I know a lot about computers. It's a newer system with xp sp2. Any suggestions for me?

I have Sony 710 DVD burner I just purchased, along with Nero program.

I have tried burning DVD -R's , but get a write error shortly after beginning the burning process. My stand alone player only plays -R's !

For the fun of it, I tried to burn a +R disc to make sure the burner was working properly, and it ran through the burn process no problem.

Any ideas out there besides it being the discs? The +R and -R are both the same, Maxell's.

Thanks for your help !

I should also add that I have checked for firmware updates, and there isn't any, and I have updated to Nero 6.

Hi,
It's my first post although am a long time pc user. My Dell Dimension 4600 has this cd-rw drive. It can read recorded cd-rw or cd-r discs but won't recognize drive as being a recordable device. It's a 4 year old pc and has no cd writing s/w loaded such as Roxio Creator.

Background very odd information below:
I'm trying to write data using Windows Explorer.
1. When I load a cd-rw or cd-r disc containing data, the Windows Explorer display drive label changes from CD-RW DRIVE E TO CD DRIVE E and opens a new Explorer window showing the disc contents.
2. When I load a blank cd-r or cd-rw, it also changes to CD DRIVE E. If I click on the E drive with a blank disc in it, I receive "e:\ is not accessible, incorrect function." Looking at drive properties, there are no properties relating to writing to this device.
The moment the drive is empty, it changes back to CD-RW DRIVE E.

I've removed the driver, reloaded it from Windows XP and done a lot of research on different web sites to no avail.

Have you heard of this particular problem? I appreciate your assistance.

Thanks

I was trying to write some files from my old computer to a blank disc, and found my CD Drive suddenly ceased that function.
I received this message: not accessible. Incorrect function. And the recording tab is missing from the CD Drive properties.
So, I checked the internet, found the fixes from Microsoft, but nothing.

Was wondering if it is related to the fact the Cd Drive disappeared a couple months ago from My Computer. I fixed that problem, but maybe it screwed something up?

The CD Drive is: IDE-CD R/RW 4x4x32; computer says it is working properly. And there are no driver updates, I tried. And it is just a CD drive. The computer has a separate DVD drive.
I'm using Windows XP, and no I haven't got Roxio installed. I did, but I got rid of it.

If anyone has any ideas Please let me know! I really need to fix this problem!

Hi

Did you try different kind of disks from different manufacturers?
I had some problems in the past writing data to some CDs and DVD disks.

Finally I found some good working disks from TDK. Now I use the CD-R and DVD-R disks.

Additionally you could clean the laser lens using cotton wool tip and alcohol fluid. This could help too. But be careful doing such job.

Hello rscadden!

This is unpleasant. I hope the following would help you.

1. Type cmd in the Start Menu
2. Select Run as Administrator
3. You should now see the Command Line Utility
4. Type in DISKPART and hit Enter ( here the values associated with your USB drive could be changed)
5. Type LIST DISK and hit Enter
6. Type SELECT DISK and the number of your drive which is write protected and hit Enter
7. Type in ATTRIBUTES DISK and Diskpart gives the information you need about your drive
If the first line is written as Current Read-only State: Yes, then the drive is write protected.
8. To remove the write protection with Diskpart, type the command ATTRIBUTES DISK CLEAR READONLY. If it works, it should be confirmed by the line Disk attributes cleared successfully.

Good luck!

What is the exact message you are getting. It may refer to the images you are trying to burn to disk. In which case right click on the image file and select properties and see what is checked there.

Also if you are using rw cds you may need to format them first. Your authoring software should have an option to do this.

Hi, I have a problem with a brand new USB stick, PNY 64GB I bought on e-bay about two months ago. It started working properly, I transferred on it about 20GB of my photos. I did not notice anything weird. The pictures were there and I think I could even move them on and off, like copying and deleting. After few days, when I wanted to erase them, there was a message that the device is write protected. USB? There is nothing to switch it for write protection like on SD cards, for example.
From that moment, the device once was recognized as inserted in the PC, other times it was not. I could not delete the images, I could not format the device and even the KillDisc software, after running nearly 5 days without a break could not sort this out. There was an error message at 99% of process and I could do nothing else than to skip it, which resulted in the problem persisting on the USB.
Now I cannot even view the files, despite after this treatment I could have seen them few days ago. The files, after I clicked on them, showed mostly unaffected photos in the views, but when I wanted to see any particular photo, all of them appeared to be damaged - there was a grey area on the majority of the photo, just a thin area of the original picture could be seen on the top of the picture.

I have contacted the seller with this problem and they offered me the refund or replace, even assured me that the item will go to the manufacturer.

Try this.

Download Windows Executable (works without installation): HDD Low Level Format Tool ver.4.25

HDDGURU: HDD LLF Low Level Format Tool

Plugin your pendrive, run the executable and low level format it. It fills all the sectors with zero and reinitialises it to the factory condition.

Once the lowlevel format is successfully completed, do a regular format.

I recommend HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. (Run it as administrator)

Hello guys,

This is Ekant this side. I am using Acer Aspire 5742Z from more than a year. However, since last month I am facing a "Write Disk Protected" problem, for which I didn't get a single workable solution. I hope you guys can help me with this.

What my actual problem is:

I have a 500GB hard drive, and I have created three partition namely; C:, D:,and E:

C drive is of 99 GB, D drive is also of 107 GB, E Drive: 285

But last month, when I booted my system, I could only find C Drive, and all other drives were invisible, don't know why, and increased my C Drive Disk Capacity from 99 GB to 465 GB. Then I tried to look for a solution on many forums, and found that find and mount can help me out with my invisible partitions, and I installed it instantly, and it really helped me finding my invisible partitions. However, now I need to run find and mount, every time I start my laptop, to mount my invisible partitions. And if i don't run it, the windows explorer shows on C Drive with a disk capacity of 465 GB.

And to my amazed, soon I discovered that both D Drive and E Drive have become 'Write Disk Protected', and neither I can create and file in any of those drives, and nor I can delete any existing files.

Now when I am trying to format my computer with new copy of windows 7, it doesn't read the DVD, and nor the USB Flash Drive (Both are boot-able as they are tried and tested on another computer).

Hope my issue is clear to all of you... Read more

A:Write Disk Protected

this is why.
Mounting partitions
After Scan finishes, you will see the full list of found partitions. Now, you can add any found partition to the system by mounting and assigning a letter to it.

All partitions are mounted in the read-only mode. You won't be able to alter files on such partitions, but only to copy files off that partition. This guarantees that the data cannot be altered by the operating system or any software (including malware).
if possible remove the laptop hard drive and connect to another Pc via a usb cradle and try format from there,(ntfs) if that works pop it back in the laptop and try installing windows again.

My SD card was borrowed to take some photos. Because it already had photos on, the user copied them to a pc, then deleted them from the card. Before returning the card, the photos were put back on. I think this may have messed the card up for use in my camera. No matter what I do, I get a message that the card is 'write protected', even though the lock is off. I can view/copy the files that are on the card, so there's no problem about losing photos, but the card no longer works in my camera, and it's a 32gb, which I use (or used to) regularly for videos of bands. My question really is, is the card now scrap? Or can I get it up and running again? It's recognized straight away when I put in the pc.

A:Write Protected SD card

it has possibly been formatted for a different format than your camera recognises

computers will recognise different formats
see if you can format the card in a computer to fat not fat 32 and then put in camera and format again in the camera

make sure you have copied off any pictures you want to keep first

First off, this is a 32gb Sandisk Cruzer flash drive and it's USB 2.0, my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64x SP1

Things I've tried:

Using regedit to set the WriteProtect Value to 0:

I've tried formatting it through the GUI:

I've tried formatting it in CMD and I get no further than selecting the disk because it cuts me off at cleaning it:

I've also erased and rewrote the registry entry for the WriteProtect key, and I tried it with a 32bit D-WORD as well as a 64bit D-WORD. I have tried every recommended option for fixing this problem, to no avail. Some said to also put it in an Xbox, but when I do, both 360, and Xbox One, both say that nothing can be done until write protection is removed.

A lot of people tell me to "Flip the write-protect switch on the side." but they don't understand that it's a FLASH DRIVE and not a MicroSD card reader. My flash drive has no flips, no switches, no nothing. I have also scanned it with the highest rated anti-virus for the year 2015, which is BitDefender Total Security 2015. No viruses, no issues. I have done EVERYTHING I have found online even remotely related to this problem, to no avail.

Some flash drives do have a switch. I treasure the very old one that I have with a write protect switch. I have to use something very small (like a pin) to actuate the switch. But you would probably know it if your flash drive had a switch like this somewhere.

You might try formatting it via Linux.

I used alchol 120% to burn a dvd rw and then after some time wanted to burn something else on it. but while formatting there is an error message saying " disk is write protected".

With windows 7 ultimate i was able to rightclick and format the disk ....

again i burn the same disk with my laptop having windows 7 home premium. IT IS AGAIN GIVING THE SAME ERROR.

i have tried other softwares to erase or format that disk but it failed.

i also read other posts regarding this matter on number of forums but no satisfactory answer.

is there a security issue with alcohol 120% or is it windows 7 home

Thanks

Farooq

A:Disk (dvd rw) is write protected

Try uninstalling Alcohol, then burn with Imgburn or CDburnerXP (both are freeware, download them).

I do believe that you could take ownership of it (Take Ownership Shortcut) and then format it. If that doesn't work, post back here.

Hi,
I have a Sandisk cruzer blade 8 gb pendrive, when i used to create a bootable usb using windows iso tool an error occured and its showing write protected while formatting. I have tried almost all the ways to format but nothing worked.Hoping a solution.[IMG][/IMG]

A:Pendrive Write Protected

My Cruzers are write protected, and I think it's done in hardware. Mine have a little OS on them that asks for a password, then unlocks the drive for use. For security reasons, I think that lock/unlock is implemented in hardware. I wasn't able to partition mine either.

Thumb drives are cheap these days. Just pick up a non secured one to make a bootable drive.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit.

My G: drive (a logical partition on a raid array) has decided it's write protected for the second time. The files are not 'read-only'.

I cant delete or cut any file or folder on the drive, they aren't even listed when I right-click. I can copy but only off the drive.

The last time it happened I ran a checkdsk and after 10 hours it finished and I had full access.

Anyone know how to make vista see the drive is not write-protected?

A:This disk is write-protected

BUMP, it's happened a third time :/

Last time i restarted in safe mode and then again normally and it just seemed to fix itself.

I dropped my phone and the micro SD, 64GB, seems to be bad. I found my old 32GB and inserted in my phone. Well, there were left over data from the previous phone of 5GB which I didn't need. I deleted the files by using the windows explorer connected via phone and via usb adapter. I inserted back in the phone and I still see the files. I formatted the disk and it completes it but I still see the files. I realize I can't write to it and have been trying to find a fix.

I tried all types of formatting through windows.

I tried downloading sdformattter.
I tried diskpart. It formats to 100% but it says that Diskpart has encountered an error: The parameter is incorrect. See the System Even Log for more information (which I don't know where this log is located).

I really would like to resolve this if I can.

A:MICRO SD Write Protected

Hi there,
I would suggest checking the physical memory card for the read/write switch and putting it to the write/unlocked position and try re-formatting the SD card with the actual phone or the phones manager program on your computer as it usually has to be formatted in a specific format and folder setup. - If you choose to format the 32gb sd card with your phone please be careful to format the sd card and not your phones internal memory

Also are the files being properly deleted and then coming back or can you not delete anything off of it?
