How do I make the Taskbar solid?

Q: How do I make the Taskbar solid?

Hello all,

First of all I'd like to thank you for letting me join this forum. I appreciate it.

OK so on to my problem and question. I set my taskbar to be along the top of my monitor screen. It seems like ever since WinXP and probably before that, some windows that open creep under the taskbar. So when this happens, I have to move my taskbar in order to close the window. Yeah I know there's other ways to close this window without moving the taskbar, but another more elegant way to avoid this problem is make the taskbar solid so the window can't creep under the it.

Does anyone know what I have to do to avoid this annoyance?

PS: for clarity sake, the taskbar in question is the bar that is at default on the bottom of a the welcome screen. It would have the start/stop button on it.

Preferred Solution: How do I make the Taskbar solid?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't have an issue with the way Win7 taskbar looks. I have an issue with the way it works.

Oftentimes a window would open with the taskbar covering its top, and I will not be able to drag it around. Whoever thought "hey, I bet people want to actually see some of the frustrating Windows flaws preventing them from doing the most basic things, so lets make a transparent but impenetrable taskbar and make windows appear under it so people would see them but unable to do anything with em" must've been a saboteur on Apple's payroll.

Anyways - can someone help me resolve this issue? Google shows nothing. Thank you

Best wishes,
Daniel.

I've searched everywhere for the answer to this!! I can't believe this isn't bothering anone else?

I love the translucent look of windows, but when I have a window in full screen mode, I want the taskbar to be solid!! this was standard in vista! A translucent taskbar and frame makes it look like the window you're using isn't full screen, and I see I get drawn to it every time! hate it (the only thing I hate so far!).

Any ideas anybody? I know I can make it solid all the time, but thats not what I want either, I just want it to turn solid when a program is in full screen.

Hi and welcome.

I agree with you and my wife wanted it back to a solid blue.
OK here is the steps
1. Right mouse on Desktop and select Personalize.
2. Select Windows Color at the bottom of the screen.
3. Uncheck the Enable Transparency.
4. Make sure you select the color you want. I still like dark blue and make sure you Color inensity is about 75%

Hopefully that does it for you.

Anyone know of a mfgr that makes desktop w/ solid state drive as primary & HDD secondary with Win 7? OS Win 7 on a, say, 64Gb SATA Solid state drive with a secondary HDD drive to store all the rest of the stuff?

Neither Dell not HP have moved into the 21st Century yet.

A:Anyone make desktop w/ solid state drive as primary & HDD secondary with Win 7?

SSDs at the moment arent viable. The additional cost to a rig woul dbump it up several degrees, and for the money, it isnt worth their while. It may happen but only if prices drop significantly.
The other problem is th e life of SSDs. The read/write times are not overly high, and you could fail relatively quickly (compared to an HD); if in warranty is the maker who pays and they wont want to, if its out of warranty, it is a major expence for what it is.

Not hidden... gone.

I am using RKLauncher, and it would seem that "hide taskbar" in the options still shows the start button when I click my start plugin.

Is there a way to make it totally gone?
ALSO,

I am currently using the testing version of the tray plugin for rklauncher and I want to know if anyone knows if there is an alternative? I.E. Is there a sidebar gadget that would do this? or is there a standalone app that looks nice that would take control of the tray, showing all the icons, not just 6/9 (battery, wifi, and sound not showing up in the plugin)

With Aero disabled you can't adjust the taskbar transparency manually like in the past. I'd rather turn it off but can't. I have some themes that make the taskbar transparent and I'd rather it was a solid color. To fix it I have to modify each theme , but can't be bothered. I switch to new theme every month or so. To do what you want you'll likely have to install a third party theming program.

Hi guys, new here, though I drop in regularly.

So what I was wondering is whether its possible to completely remove the windows 7 taskbar image? So in other words, make the taskbar background invisible so that only the icons/start menu/time etc is visible?

I just think that it could look good, along with centering the icons it could even be used as a dock

I've searched around and come up with nothing so far. Any help?

A:How to make taskbar invisible?

It was an option in some of the previous beta builds, but for some reason was dropped out in 7100, RTM & retail.
I read somewhere that you can copy the two files "DWM.exe" and "uDWM.dll" from folder c:\windows\system32\ and paste them into the same folder for 7100. This might work for the RTM/Retail as well.

"the file "DWM.exe" is responsible for the evaluation of the registry key ("HideBlur=1") and the file "uDWM.dll" for full transparency.

In order to overwrite these files at all, you first must acquire the full access rights at these files. Then "stop the service": "Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager" for a short time and copy the files from build 7127 into 7100. After that "restart the service": "Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager" again."

Using the basic theme is the easiest way. You can also up the color intensity, which will make it less transparent. IMO its not hardly noticeable that the transparency is still effect at all when color intensity is at its max.

What method did you find for making it completely transparent? I might try it out sometime.

Hi,

is there a way to make the taskbar of Windows 8.1 opaque without using AeroLite.msstyle? How to do it?
I saw this registry hack at another forum post:

Press Windows key + R and type regedit and hit enter to open the registry editor.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWMAdd DWORD value, name it as "ColorizationOpaqueBlend" without quotes, and set value data to 0.Restart pc or change theme.

But it didn't work, the taskbar is still transparent. I know that AeroLite makes the taskbar opaque, but it also changes it's appearance and color which i find uglier than the transparent taskbar. Is there any other way to make

Hi Folks,
I have a dual monitor setup at home, my current setup is that I made my 'side' monitor as primary monitor in windows setting. I am doing that to be able to make all newly created icons that is bound to desktop automatically go into my 'side' monitor.
My 'side' monitor is being used just to store all my junk desktop icons, sticky notes etc. Therefore, I don't need taskbar on my side monitor.

Now, the problem, my real primary monitor (which is being set as secondary monitor in settings), I mostly work from there, and I need to have the taskbar here.
How do I make it possible ? Please help me, I have been tweaking these for days
I have displayfusion installed.

A:How to make taskbar only appear in secondary monitor ?

I don't know of a way to remove a taskbar from a 2nd monitor using displayfusion , all I was able to do was to move the taskbar up to the top edge of the monitor and use the auto-hide option on it so I got the most screen real estate possible...

Being up top I hardly ever accidentally pull it down , which I did a lot when I left it on the bottom/left or right.

I think people actually complained when Win8 didn't have a taskbar on 2nd monitors initially...so they actually made each monitor have one.

I work based on the order in which I opened the programs, ie, newer-opened items at the bottom of the taskbar (I run my taskbar on the right side of the desktop).

Right now Win7 is grouping items based on similarity, ie, all notepad icons next to each other, file explorer windows all next to each other, etc. The problem is, I want my icons to stay on the taskbar in the order I opened them, like I had under WinXP.

Any ideas?

I added the quicklaunch bar back to the taskbar (so that I can open new programs with one click instead of the retarded two that Windows 7 wants). Anyway, when I do this, the large icons in the quicklaunch bar cause the whole taskbar to increase in height, meaning that my mouse cursor now has to be on the taskbar icons instead of them still highlighting if the cursor is at the bottom of the screen. It's an annoyance, albeit one I've come to expect from Microsoft's incompetence. Isn't there some way to make them the same height? Pic below for clarification.

Hello,
I have my start menu and task bar setup at the top of my screen as opposed to the bottom. MS did not have enough intuition to realize the problems this can cause when windows decide to place themselves under the taskbar. Furthermore I have my taskbar filled with icons, so there is only a 3 pixel or so gap between the clock and voice icon that allows me to drop the taskbar elsewhere.

The idea I've thought of is having the bottom of the taskbar set as some sort of limit. Essentially I want to make it so I cannot physically drag a window of any sort above that point of the screen, no matter what. This way no windows can open or end up underneath the taskbar at any point.

Any solutions out there? Thanks!

A:How to make bottom of the taskbar the screen limit

You can select the "auto-hide the taskbar" option, that way the taskbar is only visible, either by hovering the mouse at the edge of the screen or by pressing WIN. This will keep it out of the way and still give you use of full screen.

Find this option by right clicking the taskbar and choosing properties.

In Windows Vista, when you maximized a window, its title bar and the taskbar turned opaque, but in Windows 7 they remain transparent, which bugs the hell out of me. Not sure if this is the right place but here goes...

My download directory is indexed but when I try to search for a video file from the taskbar search, it doesn't show up. I have to go to filters and select videos and only then the file shows up.

Also, the search doesn't appear to be able to find any .exe file.

So when it works it's a hassle and other times it doesn't work at all.

EDIT: I have an external HD. The search doesn't seem to find anything in there, although it is indexed!

is there a way to make windows search better?

A:Win10 taskbar search doesn't make sense

I would suggest rebuilding the index. If you go into the index options, you will find it there.
By the way, sometimes it takes time for Windows to index everything, and if you add a whole bunch of files, or you did a system image restore, it will take time for the indexing to catch up.
But probably you should just rebuild the index.

Good day every1,
I have given up several replaceable programs because of this problem...

as already stated in the title:
I want my programs to open ON the icon in the taskbar... for some programs it works, for others strangely it doesn't...

Meaning I click on the icon, and instead of opening itself where the icon is located it opens a new window right next to it....

as you can see sony vegas opened normally ON the icon of it, but Pale Moon opened next to it, this is VERY annoying-.-

A:How do I make programs open directly on the icon in the taskbar?

Welcome to the Seven Forums
Try this, after it opens the one next to it right click on it and pin it to the taskbar then unpin the 1st one.
