I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Contact Lenovo. If you power it down, you can end up with a dead laptop.

Hello, Lenovo team Can you please, add to your next BIOS update for Lenovo Y50-70 a fix, that my laptop won't lose CPU speed after i return my laptop from sleep mode. Right now i'm using BIOS version (3.03) There is no other way to fix this issue, only you can do it with a BIOS update for that model of laptop. Thank you.

What is happening with Lenovo System Update? We are getting an error that the package catalog is being updated? We have several models here and its happening on all of them. I can't find anything relating to this update on any Lenovo site, and the response I got from calling support was "Sorry." They were also not able to tell me when they think this will be fixed. EDIT: Spelling.

What OS (Operating System) are you using? To shutdown firefox, right click the taskbar & on the menu that pops up left click Start Task Manager & go to the Processes Tab,find firefox, highlight it & click End process. You might get a pop up asking you to confirm it,click yes & X out of Task Manager.
You need to install Malwarebytes on the harddrive. Once its installed, update it & run a (full) scan.

Good afternoon all,

I'm trying to help a friend out with the above laptop. The issue he has is that when he powers it on, it loads all the way through to the desktop screen, but he's left with a black screen and cursor.

Everything else up to that point works, he gets the Windows 7 loading screen, when it has gone to the black screen - pressing ctrl, Alt and Delete brings up task manager etc, as it should do, but there's just nothing displayed for the desktop.

Can anyone give me any advice on what to look for? I'd have thought it would be a screen problem, but as I said everything else works normally.

Incidentally, booting into safe mode, it does the same thing. You get the white text in the 4 corners saying 'safe mode' and also the current build of windows text.

Thanks in advance

hi MarieNville,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you please try the following:

1. Navigate to Control Panel (icon views) > Programs and Features and remove any apps that relates to Bluetooth (reboot if necessary).

2. When finished, the Bluetooth section will now use the inbox Bluetooth Driver as shown in the image below:

3. If the Bluetooth section is not present, download and run the Bluetooth Driver installer
     - this will identify the type of Bluetooth Device installed on the system (eg. Qualcom Atheros, Intel, etc.) and it will install a generic Bluetooth driver. If successful, try pairing a bluetooth device and observe.

If everything goes well, try installing the official bluetooth drivers by navigating to the D:\Drivers\Bluetooth folder or from the Z50-70 drivers page and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

hi qaimkhan,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, the Kingston 4GB (PC3-12800 CL11) 1600Mhz that you purchased, is it a DDR3L (1.35v) or a regular DDR3 (1.5v)?

Looking at the page 28 of the hardware maintenance manual, the G50 series specifically accepts a DDR3L RAM and the memory controller only supports DDR3L. If you purchased a regular DDR3 (1.5v), this might be the problem.

Hey Lenovo, I recently bought a G51-35 and noticed a problem with posterization, otherwise known as color banding or the absence of dithering. My googlefu has come up with various ideas on fixing the issue, such as updating the Radeon R5 drivers, recalibrating the display, and using the Lenovo Settings to tweak the color settings -- all to no avail.  I began to think it was a problem with the screen being unable to produce 32bit colors, so I hooked it up to an external monitor that does show 32bit. The problem persists over to the other screen, so I don't believe it to be the laptop screen. Another thread from last year on this forum said the solution was to adjust the angle of the monitor, but in practice, this doesn't fix the problem; if anything, it worsens it. This narrows it down to the BIOS configuration or driver issues.  At this point, I can't think of anything else to try and resolve the issue. Any ideas? Because of the posterization, I can't reliably use the computer for any form of graphic design, which is part of the reason I bought it. My gut is telling me that dithering is disabled somewhere in the BIOS config, but I have no idea how to enable it. Any insight into checking this would be nice. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Not sure why this posted in the wrong forum, might need moved by a moderator.

Hi, my laptop (Lenovo G405) has this issue:

Frequently it doesn't boot the operating system, i turn it on and then a black screen appears and it gets frozen there, when it boots to windows it gets frozen so i have to restart it to get the same problem, i have seen that when i remove the battery and put it again it works but its not a definitive solution because it goes to the same problem again.

I removed the HDD to boot my laptop with Ubuntu (USB) and it works better than with HDD but still i get that problem but way less than when I boot it with my HDD, atleast i can use Ubuntu with no problems until i want to restart the computer.

What is happening? Is that a sign that the motherboard is going to be totally damaged? by the way befre i got that problem, i got BSODs with the message THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

I firstly thought it was malware so i formatted my PC and reinstalled Windows 10, still doesnt work, gee it works worse when i reinstalled it than before i reinstalled it.

It may be an HDD issue but I don't understand why using USB I get the same issue (not as bad as with HDD but still annoying).

What should I do? Get my motherboard repaired? Get a new motherboard? Get a new laptop? or what else should I do? and by the way what is causing the problem and why?

By the way if I can change the motherboard can i put a more powerful one? Later Lenovo G405 models.

I bought the Lenovo Yoga 900 a week ago. So far I'm quite happy with the Laptop , but there's one problem I have. The Fan starts spinning wildly every so often . And this drains my battery real quick. I get only about 4-5 hours . It happens while surfing using fiefox / chrome / edge. Task Manager shows that the CPU/ MEMORY Usage of the browsers is extremely high , in turn driving my cpu to a utilization of above 60% with no other apps running .This is a serious bummer , and I have no clue as to what can be done . As if this isn't enough , Windows Compatibility Telemetry is another service that occasionally causes a spike in the CPU usage. That I understand is a Windows issue. But the fan is quite disturbing. Any suggestions would be great  Thanks

3: Would you please advise if it is easy for me to do it myself?
4: My PC is nearly out of warranty period. To install a new memory, will I just open the back cover and plug the memory into the slot? Could you please advise if I need to do other things?

BTW, can I buy the part from Lenovo and how much will Lenovo charge for in total to ship it to my home in Sydney?

My Lenovo Y50-70 (Core i7-4720HQ, 8GB RAM, GTX 960M). Would sometimes randomly shut off. Like as I open it, it would freeze, and then I hear a small pop and my laptop shuts off. It would normally turn on and fully load everything after around 20 seconds. But after shutting off; as I try to open it again. it would be MUCH MUCH longer. And performance also seems to be slowed. I updated everything I can, but left the Bios out. After a friend told me about it. I tried to update it too. But even after updating it. it would still randomly shut off. What do I have to do to fix it? Overheating is not an issue, because even when the instance of opening my laptop is DONE. it still shuts off. And after playing CS:GO, Dark Souls 3, or Overwatch after a while. It wouldn't shut off.

Hi jomhilario ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Similar concerns posted as reaching 70 up temperature on light gaming  .
Temperature reviews : "The ascertained maximum core temperature of 83 °C will not be a problem. It can be said that Lenovo has the thermals under control when considering the aforementioned good Turbo utilization in the Cinebench loop. "

It would also help updating BIOS , chipsets (including Intel Management Engine Interface Driver) and graphics driver directly from the support site that helped in case reaching 90 degrees up from the support site .
Ensuring proper ventilations and adding cooling pads would help a lot on prolonged gaming use .

Update us how it goes .

I posted the same on their tech support forum but I'm beginning to think the issue, while it may have been exacerbated by the game Guildwars 2, is likely on my end, but I have a number of suggestions, none of which has worked. Also tried my own stuff.

Anyway, here is what I posted on their own tech forum:

Having a lot of issues getting into gw2…I have bits and pieces of problems others have had in the past, but nothing seems to work, so I’m re-downloading the game, basically. All I want to do is play the freaking game, why does it have to be so much trouble?

Once in awhile I will get that blue and yellow graphical glitch on something. Just more info for diagnosis. If and when this happens, it’s always immediately apparent at character select. However…The biggest problem I have with GW2 is also on login – it either crashes or bluescreens my computer right after clicking play and the client tries to load for 5-10 seconds. For the past few days, 90% of the time it just crashes. If I try to patch after that point, the patcher stops at Downloading 0KB and will not budge from it. Not even to log in. I have to reboot my computer to get it past “Downloading 0KB”.

One post I found said that they started having all these problems after downloading a number of games on Steam (which I have done off and on due to a friend getting me a few gifts) , until their HD shrank down to 30 gigs. Same here, an... Read more

Unfortunately, though I thought I did, I have no images of the odd cyan/yellow graphics glitch, and I have no way of getting one (google didn't turn up any that looked the same as mine, granted some were similar).

Edit - I also noticed after re-enabling page memory on my primary drive after freeing up some space, that in the error logs, the amount of paged memory in use is for some reason higher. I can't imagine why this is, but maybe I don't understand the process.

Window 7 x64 pc with Avast virus

Notice the issue yesterday, not sure how long it might have been affecting Firefox.

Yesterday, Avast could no longer access server to update.  Went to Avast website to manually download virus file.  Said it was up to date.  After two days, I highly doubt it is still upto date.  Tried downloading a fresh copy of the software and reinstalling.  No change.

Now I just noticed Firefox also can not access anything and when I try to update it, it says it is up to date.  I have version 22.00, not the current 23.  Don't know how long it has been blocked from updating.  Didn't find anything to improve the problem in thier troubled shooting area.  Tried downloading new copy of Firefox..... and download failed.

Two days ago, I downloaded a Windows update, classified as Critical.

I do have another computer running on the same internet connection.  It appears to be fine and has to current Firefox version.

Is this a virus or a result of the Window's update?

Thanks for your help!

FP

A:Avast and Firefox update blocked, virus or Window Update issue?

I forgot to say, Internet Explorer and other programs are working just fine.  No issues accessing anything on the internet.  The only problems,  appear to be Firefox and Avast unable to connect to server.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi there, I have been having difficulty in getting a second monitor to work with Ubuntu, and was hoping someone with better skills than me has found a fix for it. I'm running a Lenovo P50, Xeon E3-1505v5, 64Gb RAM, 4Gb Quadro M2000M as a dual boot Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04 workstation. Windows detects the second monitor both using HDMI and with a displaylink-compatible USB dock. In Ubuntu, plugging a second monitor directly into the HDMI port doesn't seem to get recognized. Using a monitor through a USB dock (with latest Ubuntu displaylink driver; 1.1.62) also doesn't get recognized, despite the fact that if I runsytemctl status displaylink.serviceit states the service is active. I'm guessing this is an issue with the dual graphics set up on the machine, although there's enough Skylake processors out there now that I don't think this kind of set up is too unusual. According to the 'overview' window (under "system settings", "details") in Ubuntu, I'm using the Intel P530 graphics (integrated on the skylake processor) rather than the Nvidia, although running:lspci | grep VGAdisplays both cards:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 191d (rev 06)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107GLM [Quadro M2000M] (rev ff)I'm using the nouveau display driver from the X.Org X server in the 'Additional Drivers' section of the 'Software & Upadates' window. This section states my graphics card is the M2000M, so I tried using a num... Read more

I bought a Lenovo Z510 a year ago with the following configuration... Operating SystemWindows 8.1 Pro with Media Center 64-bit (I got the laptop with Windows 8.0 and I installed 8.1 Pro myself).CPUIntel Core i7-4702MQ @ 2.20GHz 52 °CHaswell 22nm TechnologyRAM8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)MotherboardLENOVO VIUU4 (U3E1)GraphicsGeneric PnP Monitor ([email protected])Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Lenovo)2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (Lenovo) 39 °CStorage931GB Seagate ST1000LM014-SSHD-8GB (SATA) 40 °COptical DrivesPLDS DVD-RW DU8A5SHAudioRealtek High Definition Audio The issue I am facing is that my laptop used to shutdown when the battery was charging . I would be working on something and the laptop would just switch off. The place where I bought it from replaced the charger once, the motherboard a second time and the third time they replaced the charger again at which point the problem seemed to have stopped. This was about 7 months ago in which time I haven't faced that problem again. Recently, I was playing a game on my laptop and the power was plugged in and the battery was charging from 15% and the laptop switched off. This happens whenever I run the game and the laptop is plugged in to power supply. However, if I run the game on just battery itself, I face no shutdown issues.  Can anyone help me?

A:Lenovo Z510 Shutdown issue

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you ever checked the temperatures to see if that is the cause of the shutdown ?    Use the free utility HWMonitor to see what the temperatures are when gaming with it plugged in and when gaming on battery only.  The program comes in two versions.  The first will install on your hard drive.  The second is a compressed version that can be unzipped and then copied onto a flash drive for a portable version.

Here is a link to that free program......

Since the laptop has been in use for 7 months, if you never blew out the dust from the fan and heat sink you might give that a try as well.  Accumulated dust will increase temperatures and reduce the fan's performance.   Just use short bursts of compressed air in the intake and exhaust vents several times.  Avoid long blasts as they may damage the fan.  Cans of compressed air can be purchased from any computer or electronics store.

Hi everyone, new to the forum, but really need some advice:

Lenovo T61, 4GB memory, Intel Core 2 Due 2.4 GHz, purchased 3 years ago with XP.

I installed Windows 7 x64 recently, in part to gain access to my remaining 1 GB of ram, since XP can only address 3GB. It runs great, but the CPU now gets super hot. I was suspicious so I installed TPFanControl (tpfancontrol.com, past the donation part), and found the processor generally running between 85 - 90 degrees C. The software has a smart control to run the fan more, which has helped actually, and makes me think the T61 hardware or BIOS drivers are not cooperating with windows 7, or at least its new x64.

I also just updated my lenovo T61 BIOS, and it seems to actually have made the problem worse.

I've checked also what programs are running to make sure there is not some software bug hogging the CPU, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. Also, these high temps are just when doing nothing in particular--just internet, etc. When I'm doing high CPU things, like 3d modeling and rendering, it easily goes up to mid 90s, which I know is bad.

Also, despite being very hot, it does not seem to be using very much of the CPU, so its not as if it is running at 100% all the time--it's more like 10%.

Anyone else have similar problems? Is it just upgrading to x64? Does anyone know of better fan control software? Would it make sense to limit the BIOS memory to 3GB again, to perhaps leave the OS a little more for itself? (not even sure th... Read more

Today I opened up my laptop and noticed that there was a contrast on my monitor that persisted through all of my programs. I tried some simple troubleshooting techniques, but nothing seemed to fix this problem. I also couldn't find any solutions online. My warranty ran out last September, so I don't think I'll be able to send in my laptop for repairs. I'm hoping there might be some sort of software fix to this issue, so nobody had to go fiddling around inside the actual hardware to fix this. The only other options I can see are to send my computer in to a local repair shop, or just wait and hope the problem fixes itself. My computer isn't totally unusable, but it is highly annoying and constantly visually distracting. Hopefully someone on here can provide any insight on how to fix this problem.

My laptop was plugged into my tv via HDMI. I ran a virus scan, then restarted. During the restart, I unplugged it from the tv. When the laptop booted back up, it displayed the lenovo logo, then the screen went dark. I waited a while, then tried plugging the HDMI cable back in... and windows (10) appeared as normal on the TV, but still not on the laptop screen. I am able to turn the dark screen contrast up and down with F keys, so it's not completely black.

Basically, I can use my laptop when plugged into the tv, but the laptop screen itself is black. How can I get the screen working again?

Thanks,
J

Try pressing the F10 key, you should see more settings on the TV screen where can select which display is used.
If that doesn't work press and hold down the Fn (Function) key before pressing F10.

Greetings everyone! I have recently upgraded my Windows 10 OS to the anniversary update recently and shortly after the update, my laptop's LCD backlight randomly went off and wouldn't go on. At first I thought it could be the drivers update that messed up the backlight but I knew it doesn't work that way. Here are the list of things I've tried: - Rebooting (obviously)- Reinstalled the Intel HD graphics card with the latest version from Lenovo's support- Reinstalled the Nvidia graphics card with the latest version from Lenovo's support- Also tried previous Intel & Nvidia graphics card driver versions- Keyboard's built-in backlight controller doesn't do anything I'm starting to think it's hardware related issue and if that's the case, where's the trusted website to obtain a LCD screen replacement to fix it myself (I've already found tutorials on how to replace it, because warranty expired literally last week...) Thanks!!!
